I bought leaf green and sapphire from GameStop about a year ago and there were real. Other than that probably a local video game spot that sells vintage games (if you live in or near a big city). I’m trying to buy colosseum and xd but it’s super rare now it feels.
The fact they haven’t yet makes me to think remakes are in the works. Idk if it’s just wishful thinking but wouldn’t they port them onto the switch already to make more money if the idea of remaking this game wasn’t being considered?
Right? I’ve always wanted to play this one since I never owned a GameCube as a kid. And that’s saying something because I’ve never been interested in the Pokemon games. Nintendo is missing out on a barge-sized stack of cash by not porting old games

Indoor battles in this game actually take place in the same setting as the overworld. Towns have a more dynamic layout. Pokemon are scaled to size for the most part and have more varied animations. How were these all absent from Sword and Shield?
This is why I was harder with my criticisms for Sword and Shield. It wasn't able to achieve what a game, three generations could. And they had a comparable amount of Pokemon as well. Like what!?
True but those animations drag the battles on. Stadium was even worse with that since attack animations still played even when attacks missed. Those animations still look good though.
The animations in this game brought each Pokémon to life. Slaking literally would lay there. When he used earthquake he would do a stretch before smacking his hands against his feet and triggering the shockwave. LOVED this game. Thank you for this video.
I'm sorry but I have a HUGE soft spot for Colosseum. The battles gave me a moment of excitement and seriousness before 3D Main Poké games were a thing. I love the Pokemon's 3D models. I remember having a crush on the main dude as a kid and idk why outside the standard physical appearances. The music is very wonderful to me. Like that Relic Forest theme gives me so much emotion that I rarely get from other soundtracks and I used to listen while looking at the pokedex. I swear, I think I'll get some fangasm listening to the soundtracks fully. Or just cry out of nostalgia and bittersweet memories. Tbh, I couldn't tell what gender Miror B was specified because they look androgynous to me growing up, but hey, they got a nice design and was one of the first game characters I've seen with an Afro. I wonder how many people talked about how haunting it was to face the final boss without music, like the game couldn't have a song that best fits the situation in a somewhat good way. I really wanna see more games like this and have been waiting for years for such.
Sure about that? I just recently started the game and noticed that the kidnapped girl in the bag has a smiling face right after being released, which makes it even a weirder smile.
I recently finally ended up beating the game and have stoped for now. Probably gunna pick it back up later to finish everything. Sadly been unable to find Pokémon gale of darkness outside of GameStop and eBay. Been looking hard tho

Genius Sonority unfortunately doesn't exist as a company anymore. Word has it that Nintendo has no interest in bringing colosseum/XD back, BUT stadium is now back, so there's still hope!
The animations in that hoho compared to the flying animations on current generation flying Pokémon is insane..... like wow what personality and actual detail to how a bird flies. Today’s birds don’t even flap their wings.
It's almost like they had far less Pokemon to make animations for compared to newer games. On top of that, the Gen I and II models are ripped straight from Stadium 1 and 2 on N64, including the animations. All Genius Sonority had to do was the Gen III Mons. All these models were kept for Battle Revolution on Wii too.
I’m mad the ppl who make the Pokémon anime never thought to adapt colosseum and xd into an ova or movie, would’ve been awesome. But alas the ship has sailed 15 years ago lmao
It has nothing to do with them forgetting. The ideas belong to a different developer so they'd probably have to pay extra money to use the colosseum characters and didn't bother.
I got the Ho-Oh :) There's an unlimited Master Ball glitch for catching shadow Pokemon and a glitch that allows you to purify the six Pokemon in your party while not playing/overnight, but even with them it still takes a lot of time! Not sure if some people consider it illegitimate to take advantage of glitches, but it will certainly make your life a whole lot easier.
@@ElekktrOde I don't remember exactly but there are tutorials for both on TH-cam. I know the master ball glitch has something to do with using it during your first Pokemon's turn and then going into your items and switching its place in the bag on your second Pokemon's turn. To purify shadow Pokemon there's a specific corner in Agate Village where if you walk into it at a specific angle your character keeps walking and the game thinks you're moving (which purifies shadow Pokemon). So if you set it up and rubber band your control stick you can purify Pokemon while you're sleeping, or a work/school, etc. I used my playthrough Pokemon for the battle tower challenge to get Ho-Oh, but I don't think it's required. You can probably bring in Pokemon from other games.

That would be polarizing. I'd rather them expand and refine the traditional formula in 3D rather than reinvent it. These games are spin off's for a reason. So they have creative freedom to do something different. I'd love to see the same type of creative freedom in a mainline game, but I wouldn't want them to try and reinvent the formula. I think the mainline games are just about perfect. But that's just me.
Leave that to the spin offs. GF would find at least six ways to screw it up, and there would be three times as many problems with the finished product.
And the soundtrack is way better too. I don't mind a bit of EDM sounding music, but I prefer actual instruments and the composition to have a bit of "bite".

@@John-wb1ny My absolute favorite song in the soundtrack is Semifinal Battle. That theme sums up Colosseum perfectly, I kinda wish it was used for the Final Battle instead, though. I'm a sucker for any song that has a slap bass.
I remember very well how amazing every important battle in the game was, especially Dakim's, when I didn't know how to respond against the Protect + Earthquake strategy, and how exciting the arrival of Entei was. The plot twist at the end. And... is Pokémon Colosseum the hardest game of the franchise? It was, until XD arrived. Man, Genius Sonority has so much potential that they could exploit to bring more games like this. PD: This is the first game I have ever played in my life, and I am proud to say it.
@Kurotetsu not easily accessible for all people... A GameCube, Appropriate Cords, Controller, and the Game itself not scratched is faaar from a quick and cheap purchase. Especially post pandemic those prices skyrocketed just like every other retro console, and it takes a fairly solid device to run Colosseum on an Emulator without any problems.
@Kurotetsu not for Colosseum/XD, Emulators regularly have issues with them if you don't have a solid enough device... Something to do with the way the game is set to generate assets, there's mods that allow you to fix this but it's a bit more complicated for the average person Emulating ...

Same. Thing is I didn't realize you had to do the Mt. Battle in Battle Mode (I wasn't aware it existed), so I did it in Story Mode. Then, I looked into it and then did it in Battle Mode, thank goodness they give you extra continues if you have a perfect battle.
This also came around the time when the TCG released EX Team Rocket Returns in North America. That set features Dark Pokemon, which was a nod to the original Team Rocket set back when Wizards of the Coast was printing the cards.

Can you guess why i liked this game so much given my name ? I can't tell you how excited i was to see a main character with my name and in no less a pokemon game.
i still remember my 13 year old me being so damn satisfied when I got that Ho-Oh uGH I'd love them to make a remake of this game PLEASE IT'S SO GOOD ....that being said it was more of a child goal for me since gold had been my first own game of the series
i just wish they went all-in on the protag, and had him do way more than steal the snag machine and taking down the leader. we needed more cutscenes that was like the opening, and this was the perfect time to make him up there with Red
Catching the legendary beasts in this game was just phenomenal. Absolutely BRUTAL to do, but so so so so worth it, not just for the difficulty, but for how good they were and for how rare they were in the games at this point.
This was always the "fun" version of pokemon for me. It was straight to the point, battle and catch shadow pokemon. Much less grindy, major battles were flashy and memorable. It might just be me but I replayed this game and XD more than the main game titles
I got this game on my Birthday (Thanks Dad) along with the Bonus Disk with Jirachi. The Grind was real 💯 on this Game, like you said "Resources were Limited". I'm glad that Shadow Pokemon still live on in Pokemon Go and with Pokemon Snap making a Comeback then you'll never know if they would try to bring us back to Orre Region again.
Some of these battles were VERY difficult. I tell you what though, the team I had by the end which consisted of Espeon, Umbreon, Feraligatr, Flygon, Entei and Tyranitar is one of the strongest teams I have ever had. That Tyranitar you catch in this game from Evice is a MONSTER with some of the best coverage moves of Gen. 3 at the time (Tyranitar also being one the few pseudo-legendaries and a TANK too).
You mean the Snagger Leo 1-shot manga? Or would we have gotten something epic with a guy name "Colosseum" being epic? Admit it we all wanted Colosseum & XD to get Special Adventures mangas, although it probably would have interfered with the quality of the mangas we actually got if it happened. At least Gale sounds like a real name that the boy in Gale of Darkness would have. Pyrite Town always felt like it was 1/3rd of the game, so we could probably expect the Manga to capture that feeling if it ever happened. Maybe someday some fan will make a manga for Colosseum? For some reason I get the feeling that Dakim's Entei would probably prove unsnaggable in the 1st Battle & happen in Realgam Tower in the manga. 90 Chapters of Colosseum & 90 more Chapters of XD would be awesome to see someday, even if it had to be fanmade. I keep imagining what it would be like for these 2 games to get chapters that are to the side of the accomplishments of the Pokedex Holders.
So here's someone that found this a year later, I found a great let's play of this series by a channel called whattageek and it got me hooked I had to get the game. Bought it, played it on Dolphin and I completely loved every second of it and yes, I spent the time to get Ho-Oh. Each battle takes a minimum of 3 minutes with the top 10 taking more like 6-7 minutes each, some up to 10m, the final battle, well, I had 82 continues when I started, and 80 remaining when I finally won it, but it was so worth it. Now to figure out how I can take some of these amazing Pokemon with me to my Pokemon Home, I'm sure there's a way with a DSi and Gen V but that's going to be a mission in itself.
I played this and while I had a great and exciting experience building my team and divising Doubles and capturing strategies (this is its strongest point imo), I noticed some glaring flaws. The very limited mon selection, the slow pacing of battles, Shadow-type being very undeveloped, lots of backtracking in dungeons bc No Fly HM, etc. Really wish they did more with Wes in this game, easily the most unique character in design and experience yet it's another silent protagonist... Also, the Shadow Pokemon concept reminds me of the 4th movie where Iron Mask used those Dark Balls to corrupt and fortify Pokemon. I wished to see this in a Pokemon game and I got it!
I sure as heck hope that if they remaster Colosseum they better not water down the enemies; they were amazing in Colosseum and I agree with you on the whole 'entry to competitive ' aspect
I remember taking time to grind at Mt. Battle. I was also that type of player who was willing to use legendaries. I remember one playthrough I used all three of the legendary beasts on my team. I also remember taking advantage of a glitch that gave you infinite Poké Balls. Very nice for after you got the Master Ball. Cheap, but I wanted to save my money for healing items because I knew I would need them. Oh, and I used Umbreon and Espeon on every single playthrough of this game. I don’t remember having _that_ difficult a time with Mt. Battle, but that’s because of using the beasts on my team and taking extra time to grind at the Colosseums. Because of getting TMs from your first four times getting through each Colosseum, the grinding didn’t feel like busy work for once.
Picture this: It's a Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo Switch logo comes up and you hear the click, the screen glitches for a fraction of a second, and it clicks again, and again, and again.... People think the stream is broken but no, a familiar bass tune starts playing in tune to the rhythm of the clicking as the screen fades to black.... Then a piano tune plays and a camera starts going backward through Pyrite Town until reaching the entrance, the protagonists of Colosseum and XD are leaned up against the rock wall snapping their fingers and bobbing their heads in tune, a scooter on the left and a motorbike on the right, with an Eevee on the left and Espeon and Umbreon on the right, all three bobbing *their* heads in tune with the snapping too. The camera gets closer to them until only the finger-snapping is heard and the two stop, look into the camera lift up their Snagger Lense/Eye protection, the one on the left gives a cheerful childish smile while the right gives a confident smirk. The two move their mouths in unison and a text box appears below them: "Been a while huh?" Then the Friendly Battle theme from Colosseum fires up and a series of locations, characters, and battles start getting showcased featuring an Odin Sphere Leifthrasir-style menu that lets you turn certain gameplay modifiers on/off that let you make the game more or less like the original games depending on whether you like or dislike certain changes. The game ends with a Pokeball that slowly fades into Miror B's hair. He turns around with Trudly and Folly and they each send out 3 Pokeballs containing a Shadow Sizor, Mareep, and Togepi respectively. Then a Pikachu walks in from out of frame behind them, followed by the appearance of Celebi and Jirachi, and the 3 scramble to try and catch them. Before showing the release date. Indicating that the Japanese-only e-reader mons, as well as event and bonus-disc exclusive mons will be catchable in these versions.
Easily my favorite Pokemon game aside from possibly XD Gale of Darkness. Genius Sonority knew how to make a Pokemon game way better than Gamefreak would like. It's so good, it even served as the inspiration for my username.
I actually did get the Naval Rock event in Emerald! I lived a few hours from NYC and my parents took me into the city to go get it. Waited in line for hours to get it since back then you had to be within reaching distance for the GBA wireless adapters to work for distributing events! I remember playing DK Jungle Beat while waiting in line - they had a few booth set up every so often to keep people occupied.
I'm proud to count myself as being among those who completed the Ho-oh challenge. And since I'm a crazy person and have been feeling nostalgic for Colosseum lately, I think I might do it again.
i HAVE that HO-OH. i very recently completed my full playthrough of ALL gen 3 games, including XD and Colosseum, it was good fun. plus i had the bonus disc which gave me Jirachi! too much time spent finishing the pokedex. (i cry that mew, Celebi, and Deoxys will never be filled out on those cartridges)
I didn't play much of Colosseum but I did like it. When my younger brother was a kid, he was still playing the Pokemon games and I sort of stopped. But he got Colosseum and I was watching him play it sometimes and then I would see him struggle in battles so I would help him on those parts. Like "use that type on that type", etc. "what should I use on this?" "Use fire on the grass and dark on the psychic". It's actually cause of that game that I got back into the Pokemon games.
Funnny, I was there when Nintendo world "reopened" in nyc(navel rock event). Fun day out. I had two legit Ho-oh for a few years until my LG cartridge stopped working.
I like the videos you've done on the Genius Sonority Pokemon games! Subscribed because of it, youtube's finally recommending me things I want to watch! Pokemon Colosseum actually happens to be my favorite Pokemon game of all time. Not only is the selection of shadow pokemon bad, but the opponents teams are also ALWAYS filled with better quality and higher-leveled pokemon, something that really made this game difficult for me haha. I went more in-depth on specifics of this game, like the art direction, influences, and themes this game's story went into. In no way am I self-promoting, just in case someone wanted to know more about how Persona 2 influenced this game, or how the jagged rough art style came to be for this game, I talk about that on my channel and how Colosseum is my favorite. Either way, I found this retrospective to be concise yet well-rounded enough to sum up how I feel about this game. Nice video, I subbed!
The difficulty came from how underwhelming some of the shadow pokes were, not from the main game itself. The battle tower and stadiums were the ultimate grinding area rewarding you immensely with items or BP. Quagsire was a lifesaver for Dakim's and Ein's battles. Surf, mud shot and yawn made catching Entei, Suicune and Raikou a breeze. Medicham and Espeon are broken late game, they're offensive prowess and the snagging glitch made Realgam Tower and Deep Underground much more manageable. GameFreak probably won't create more stadium based games. They're sales are much worse than the mainline games and their critical reception almost as polarizing as Dexit. The gems on the GameCube that will forever be remembered by those that played them.
Still one of the best Pokemon games ever. I would be all over a remake with more Pokemon and added features. I remember being so excited on Christmas Day opening a GameCube and this wonderful game.
Honestly I would rather not see these games making a return seeing as how lazy current GameFreak is i'd assume all the mons would have the lifeless new models instead of the decently fancy gen 3 models. They really botched sword and shield and all previous 3d games.
That final boss battle with the evil mayor is so needlessly difficult and poorly designed. All the other bosses were slightly higher leveled yea but they had strategies you could counter. It rewarded out smarting your opponent. The evil mayor doesn't have this, instead their logic was "let's just make him absurdly over leveled so he's "difficult" right?" You have to grind to beat him which grinding takes FOREVER in Colosseum. If they do an HD remake of this game they really need to balance out the difficulty. I don't want it to be brain dead easy like the mainline games but this swings so far in the opposite direction that it becomes a pendulum between enjoyable then incredibly tedious/annoying.
If you think it was just levels, then two thoughts. 1. Most final bosses are the ownere of the highest level pokemon. 2. His Skill Swap strategy is absolutely brutal and can be countered, so I'm not sure what game you played.
You make a good point about gen2. Especially how on 99% of my playthroughs of this game, I use a Hariyama… a gen3 pokemon. A gen3 pokemon you get right at the beginning of the game and is one of the best pokemon you can pick up. Oh dear.
I am replaying colosseum 10+ years later and I still cant believe ive sunk that much time into it because I clearly remember getting to battle 100 but its taking me so long right now
When I was a kid I didn't have a GC console and this game, "from the outside looking in", seeing it at stores overboard was crazy for me (in my country the GC was not puplar, a kid wouldn't even see it being sold in the average electronics store). Being right at the age where pokemon was everything to me, was like looking at one of the legendary birds from afar IRL
So sad that we are unlikely to ever get another attempt at a darker take on the Pokemon universe. Gamefreak has married themselves to making games that feel targeted at preschoolers.
Best part is that the game doesn’t tell you which Pokemon your opponent is about to switch in. I loved getting surprised on which Pokemon my opponent was about to switch in

I recently finally ended up beating the game and have stoped for now. Probably gunna pick it back up later to finish everything. Sadly been unable to find Pokémon gale of darkness outside of GameStop and eBay. Been looking hard tho

Genius Sonority unfortunately doesn't exist as a company anymore. Word has it that Nintendo has no interest in bringing colosseum/XD back, BUT stadium is now back, so there's still hope!
The animations in that hoho compared to the flying animations on current generation flying Pokémon is insane..... like wow what personality and actual detail to how a bird flies. Today’s birds don’t even flap their wings.
Most of the Flying types just hover or flap their wings in a loop.

It's almost like they had far less Pokemon to make animations for compared to newer games. On top of that, the Gen I and II models are ripped straight from Stadium 1 and 2 on N64, including the animations. All Genius Sonority had to do was the Gen III Mons. All these models were kept for Battle Revolution on Wii too.

I got the Ho-Oh :) There's an unlimited Master Ball glitch for catching shadow Pokemon and a glitch that allows you to purify the six Pokemon in your party while not playing/overnight, but even with them it still takes a lot of time! Not sure if some people consider it illegitimate to take advantage of glitches, but it will certainly make your life a whole lot easier.
yo, can you explain how to do the glitches? also, to get ho-oh, do you need to use your playtrough team?
@@ElekktrOde I don't remember exactly but there are tutorials for both on TH-cam. I know the master ball glitch has something to do with using it during your first Pokemon's turn and then going into your items and switching its place in the bag on your second Pokemon's turn. To purify shadow Pokemon there's a specific corner in Agate Village where if you walk into it at a specific angle your character keeps walking and the game thinks you're moving (which purifies shadow Pokemon). So if you set it up and rubber band your control stick you can purify Pokemon while you're sleeping, or a work/school, etc.
I used my playthrough Pokemon for the battle tower challenge to get Ho-Oh, but I don't think it's required. You can probably bring in Pokemon from other games.

Imagine a main line pokemon game that takes risks and reinvents the series instead of the same formula rehashed for decades
That would be polarizing. I'd rather them expand and refine the traditional formula in 3D rather than reinvent it. These games are spin off's for a reason. So they have creative freedom to do something different. I'd love to see the same type of creative freedom in a mainline game, but I wouldn't want them to try and reinvent the formula. I think the mainline games are just about perfect. But that's just me.

I remember very well how amazing every important battle in the game was, especially Dakim's, when I didn't know how to respond against the Protect + Earthquake strategy, and how exciting the arrival of Entei was.

A GameCube, Appropriate Cords, Controller, and the Game itself not scratched is faaar from a quick and cheap purchase. Especially post pandemic those prices skyrocketed just like every other retro console, and it takes a fairly solid device to run Colosseum on an Emulator without any problems.
@Kurotetsu not for Colosseum/XD, Emulators regularly have issues with them if you don't have a solid enough device... Something to do with the way the game is set to generate assets, there's mods that allow you to fix this but it's a bit more complicated for the average person Emulating ...

Same. Thing is I didn't realize you had to do the Mt. Battle in Battle Mode (I wasn't aware it existed), so I did it in Story Mode. Then, I looked into it and then did it in Battle Mode, thank goodness they give you extra continues if you have a perfect battle.
Do you have to use your playthrough team? or can you transfer a team of legendaries as he says in the vid?
This also came around the time when the TCG released EX Team Rocket Returns in North America. That set features Dark Pokemon, which was a nod to the original Team Rocket set back when Wizards of the Coast was printing the cards.
I remember getting cards from the Team Rocket Returns and FireRed/LeafGreen TCG sets for Christmas when I was younger. Man I really miss those times.
This and Xd deserve a remaster, honestly my personal favorite Pokémon games. Nothing beats the soundtrack!

Catching the legendary beasts in this game was just phenomenal. Absolutely BRUTAL to do, but so so so so worth it, not just for the difficulty, but for how good they were and for how rare they were in the games at this point.
This was always the "fun" version of pokemon for me. It was straight to the point, battle and catch shadow pokemon. Much less grindy, major battles were flashy and memorable. It might just be me but I replayed this game and XD more than the main game titles
I got this game on my Birthday (Thanks Dad) along with the Bonus Disk with Jirachi. The Grind was real 💯 on this Game, like you said "Resources were Limited". I'm glad that Shadow Pokemon still live on in Pokemon Go and with Pokemon Snap making a Comeback then you'll never know if they would try to bring us back to Orre Region again.

I would not mind if this game got remastered to the Switch or a Pokémon game like this and Gale of Darkness.
Some of these battles were VERY difficult. I tell you what though, the team I had by the end which consisted of Espeon, Umbreon, Feraligatr, Flygon, Entei and Tyranitar is one of the strongest teams I have ever had. That Tyranitar you catch in this game from Evice is a MONSTER with some of the best coverage moves of Gen. 3 at the time (Tyranitar also being one the few pseudo-legendaries and a TANK too).
We nearly got a Colosseum chapter in the Pokemon Adventures manga. No joke.

You mean the Snagger Leo 1-shot manga? Or would we have gotten something epic with a guy name "Colosseum" being epic? Admit it we all wanted Colosseum & XD to get Special Adventures mangas, although it probably would have interfered with the quality of the mangas we actually got if it happened. At least Gale sounds like a real name that the boy in Gale of Darkness would have. Pyrite Town always felt like it was 1/3rd of the game, so we could probably expect the Manga to capture that feeling if it ever happened. Maybe someday some fan will make a manga for Colosseum?
For some reason I get the feeling that Dakim's Entei would probably prove unsnaggable in the 1st Battle & happen in Realgam Tower in the manga. 90 Chapters of Colosseum & 90 more Chapters of XD would be awesome to see someday, even if it had to be fanmade. I keep imagining what it would be like for these 2 games to get chapters that are to the side of the accomplishments of the Pokedex Holders.

So here's someone that found this a year later, I found a great let's play of this series by a channel called whattageek and it got me hooked I had to get the game. Bought it, played it on Dolphin and I completely loved every second of it and yes, I spent the time to get Ho-Oh. Each battle takes a minimum of 3 minutes with the top 10 taking more like 6-7 minutes each, some up to 10m, the final battle, well, I had 82 continues when I started, and 80 remaining when I finally won it, but it was so worth it. Now to figure out how I can take some of these amazing Pokemon with me to my Pokemon Home, I'm sure there's a way with a DSi and Gen V but that's going to be a mission in itself.

I played this and while I had a great and exciting experience building my team and divising Doubles and capturing strategies (this is its strongest point imo), I noticed some glaring flaws. The very limited mon selection, the slow pacing of battles, Shadow-type being very undeveloped, lots of backtracking in dungeons bc No Fly HM, etc.
Really wish they did more with Wes in this game, easily the most unique character in design and experience yet it's another silent protagonist...
Also, the Shadow Pokemon concept reminds me of the 4th movie where Iron Mask used those Dark Balls to corrupt and fortify Pokemon. I wished to see this in a Pokemon game and I got it!
I sure as heck hope that if they remaster Colosseum they better not water down the enemies; they were amazing in Colosseum and I agree with you on the whole 'entry to competitive ' aspect

I remember taking time to grind at Mt. Battle. I was also that type of player who was willing to use legendaries. I remember one playthrough I used all three of the legendary beasts on my team. I also remember taking advantage of a glitch that gave you infinite Poké Balls. Very nice for after you got the Master Ball. Cheap, but I wanted to save my money for healing items because I knew I would need them.
Oh, and I used Umbreon and Espeon on every single playthrough of this game. I don’t remember having _that_ difficult a time with Mt. Battle, but that’s because of using the beasts on my team and taking extra time to grind at the Colosseums. Because of getting TMs from your first four times getting through each Colosseum, the grinding didn’t feel like busy work for once.

Picture this: It's a Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo Switch logo comes up and you hear the click, the screen glitches for a fraction of a second, and it clicks again, and again, and again....
People think the stream is broken but no, a familiar bass tune starts playing in tune to the rhythm of the clicking as the screen fades to black....
Then a piano tune plays and a camera starts going backward through Pyrite Town until reaching the entrance, the protagonists of Colosseum and XD are leaned up against the rock wall snapping their fingers and bobbing their heads in tune, a scooter on the left and a motorbike on the right, with an Eevee on the left and Espeon and Umbreon on the right, all three bobbing *their* heads in tune with the snapping too.
The camera gets closer to them until only the finger-snapping is heard and the two stop, look into the camera lift up their Snagger Lense/Eye protection, the one on the left gives a cheerful childish smile while the right gives a confident smirk. The two move their mouths in unison and a text box appears below them: "Been a while huh?"
Then the Friendly Battle theme from Colosseum fires up and a series of locations, characters, and battles start getting showcased featuring an Odin Sphere Leifthrasir-style menu that lets you turn certain gameplay modifiers on/off that let you make the game more or less like the original games depending on whether you like or dislike certain changes.
The game ends with a Pokeball that slowly fades into Miror B's hair. He turns around with Trudly and Folly and they each send out 3 Pokeballs containing a Shadow Sizor, Mareep, and Togepi respectively. Then a Pikachu walks in from out of frame behind them, followed by the appearance of Celebi and Jirachi, and the 3 scramble to try and catch them. Before showing the release date. Indicating that the Japanese-only e-reader mons, as well as event and bonus-disc exclusive mons will be catchable in these versions.
Easily my favorite Pokemon game aside from possibly XD Gale of Darkness. Genius Sonority knew how to make a Pokemon game way better than Gamefreak would like.
It's so good, it even served as the inspiration for my username.

I actually did get the Naval Rock event in Emerald! I lived a few hours from NYC and my parents took me into the city to go get it. Waited in line for hours to get it since back then you had to be within reaching distance for the GBA wireless adapters to work for distributing events! I remember playing DK Jungle Beat while waiting in line - they had a few booth set up every so often to keep people occupied.

I didn't play much of Colosseum but I did like it. When my younger brother was a kid, he was still playing the Pokemon games and I sort of stopped. But he got Colosseum and I was watching him play it sometimes and then I would see him struggle in battles so I would help him on those parts. Like "use that type on that type", etc. "what should I use on this?" "Use fire on the grass and dark on the psychic". It's actually cause of that game that I got back into the Pokemon games.
Funnny, I was there when Nintendo world "reopened" in nyc(navel rock event). Fun day out. I had two legit Ho-oh for a few years until my LG cartridge stopped working.

Pokemon Colosseum actually happens to be my favorite Pokemon game of all time. Not only is the selection of shadow pokemon bad, but the opponents teams are also ALWAYS filled with better quality and higher-leveled pokemon, something that really made this game difficult for me haha.
I went more in-depth on specifics of this game, like the art direction, influences, and themes this game's story went into. In no way am I self-promoting, just in case someone wanted to know more about how Persona 2 influenced this game, or how the jagged rough art style came to be for this game, I talk about that on my channel and how Colosseum is my favorite.
Either way, I found this retrospective to be concise yet well-rounded enough to sum up how I feel about this game. Nice video, I subbed!
The difficulty came from how underwhelming some of the shadow pokes were, not from the main game itself. The battle tower and stadiums were the ultimate grinding area rewarding you immensely with items or BP. Quagsire was a lifesaver for Dakim's and Ein's battles. Surf, mud shot and yawn made catching Entei, Suicune and Raikou a breeze. Medicham and Espeon are broken late game, they're offensive prowess and the snagging glitch made Realgam Tower and Deep Underground much more manageable. GameFreak probably won't create more stadium based games. They're sales are much worse than the mainline games and their critical reception almost as polarizing as Dexit. The gems on the GameCube that will forever be remembered by those that played them.

Still one of the best Pokemon games ever. I would be all over a remake with more Pokemon and added features. I remember being so excited on Christmas Day opening a GameCube and this wonderful game.
Honestly I would rather not see these games making a return seeing as how lazy current GameFreak is i'd assume all the mons would have the lifeless new models instead of the decently fancy gen 3 models. They really botched sword and shield and all previous 3d games.
Is worth bearing in mind it was Genius Sonority who developed this, so if they were to do it again, we'd be fine.

That final boss battle with the evil mayor is so needlessly difficult and poorly designed. All the other bosses were slightly higher leveled yea but they had strategies you could counter. It rewarded out smarting your opponent. The evil mayor doesn't have this, instead their logic was "let's just make him absurdly over leveled so he's "difficult" right?" You have to grind to beat him which grinding takes FOREVER in Colosseum. If they do an HD remake of this game they really need to balance out the difficulty. I don't want it to be brain dead easy like the mainline games but this swings so far in the opposite direction that it becomes a pendulum between enjoyable then incredibly tedious/annoying.
If you think it was just levels, then two thoughts.
1. Most final bosses are the ownere of the highest level pokemon.
2. His Skill Swap strategy is absolutely brutal and can be countered, so I'm not sure what game you played.
You make a good point about gen2. Especially how on 99% of my playthroughs of this game, I use a Hariyama… a gen3 pokemon. A gen3 pokemon you get right at the beginning of the game and is one of the best pokemon you can pick up.

When I was a kid I didn't have a GC console and this game, "from the outside looking in", seeing it at stores overboard was crazy for me (in my country the GC was not puplar, a kid wouldn't even see it being sold in the average electronics store). Being right at the age where pokemon was everything to me, was like looking at one of the legendary birds from afar IRL
So sad that we are unlikely to ever get another attempt at a darker take on the Pokemon universe. Gamefreak has married themselves to making games that feel targeted at preschoolers.
Best part is that the game doesn’t tell you which Pokemon your opponent is about to switch in. I loved getting surprised on which Pokemon my opponent was about to switch in
