    I wish they revive this awesome spin-off series someday! Or at the very least, introduce more vigilante protagonists to shake up the formula

      @PeterGriffin11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Yeah not every villian needs to be the leader of an evil team but I think in more recent games they've been doing a away with that Sword & Shield didn't really have an evil team as Team Yell weren't really villians just annoying and in my opinion a bootleg version of Team Skull the real villian was Chairman Rose and Legends Arceus doesn't have an evil team either.

      I want to know why a Gamecube game, and a Wii game not only have better graphics, battle animations, models, but also a bigger Pokedex than current Switch games!
      242 Pokémon - There are 242 Pokémon available in Pokémon Legends: Arceus
      493 Pokémon - Battle Revolution is a 3D Battle simulator, featuring all 493 Pokémon,
      What is their excuse? Gamefreak has gotten way too lazy. I wish they'd take a year or 3 and actually just release a solid pokemon game, instead of the rushed crap that people continue blindly paying for.
      I miss when Pokemon games had real heart and soul put into them, no pun intended, but those games are a great example of when you could tell they cared, they tested the game from a player's POV, they made it charming, and... the battle animations are somehow even better in the 2D / 3DS versions, than any Switch game.
      Pokemon Emerald > Pokemon Legends Arceus.

    Fun fact about Gonzap and his Skarmory.
    I failed to catch it during his Realgam fight. I also failed to catch during his rematch in his base. I fought him again and his dialogue was

      The dialogue in these games go above and beyond.
      In XD when you lose your snag arm, everyone you talk to notices and makes a comment. Also after you beat a key location, everyone you talk to reacts to what you did

  • @YueKatsura

    While I do love the fact that they broke the trend of the protagonist being a goody two-shoes, it's a real shame they never did much with it. There was dialogue from npcs that hinted that Wes wasn't bothered much by petty crime like theft and the reason he blew up the hideout was because of an altercation between members of Team Snagem. It's implied that the argument was between Wes and the head of Team Snagem. I like to think that they were just a notorious gang but Cipher came to them with the plan of using Shadow Pokémon and this might have been where Wes drew the line.
    Unfortunately, this doesn't really amount to much aside from the confrontation in Realgam Tower. A great idea, but bogged down from the constraints of having a silent protagonist.

      I agree. Played through Colloseum for the first time a few years ago. I loved the concept of the game, but ultimately felt it didn't go far enough in terms of plot and world building.
      One cool thing they could have done was have a small section where Wes and Gonzap hash it out prior to the Realgam encounter and expound on why exactly Wes did what he did.

      @@zacke.1286 I think they were too constrained with trying to keep it like a Pokemon game that ultimately it didn't appeal to either traditional Japanese-styled RPG fans or Pokemon fans. like they wanted it to be balanced somewhere, but couldn't either due to time constraints or limitations of the Gamecube.

      @Artemus973 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is Colosseum's biggest disappointment imo, and it really makes me wish that they went with the original plans for XD
      For those unaware, in the original story Greeville wasn’t going to be the head boss of Cipher. It was going to be that you would find out that Wes wasn’t a good guy. Wes didn’t have pure intentions when taking down Evice in colosseum. Instead It was that he knew he was a skilled Pokémon trainer and saw a an opportunity to steal the snag machine from Team Snagem. He used that to get what he wanted, pretending to be a good guy and using everyone in the region to get a battle from Evice. After Cipher lost its boss, he would’ve become its new boss and doing a better job than Evice.
      They changed it due to thinking it'd be too edgy for a pokemon game and were worried that people who played XD first or replaying Colosseum would be miffed about playing the bad guy the whole time

    They did so many things right with Colosseum that it still saddens me to this day that they didn't take enough of the lessons from that game and apply them to the later ones. I understand that the other games make your character a generic blank-slate goody-two-shoes from a small town to make it easier for the players to project themselves into the character but I LOVED how they gave Wes considerably more depth by giving him a stronger backstory and a morally gray one at that. Made playing the game much more interesting and enjoyable. I was supremely disappointed when I played Gale of Darkness and found they more or less reverted back to the norm, making the game feel a lot more boring as a result. You've also hit a slew of the other highlights that make Colosseum a true hidden gem among the other Pokemon games. It was so different the main series pokemon but it worked so well. The atmosphere is great, the music is solid, and its difficult but fair. One of my favorite things about it are the battles, having them all be a double makes the battles feel grander and more of a spectacle. The shadow pokemon are very interesting too, a criminal group using science to turn pokemon into malicious living weapons is twisted yet makes for a good plot. Even the main character himself formally being a criminal was nice choice as it adds mystery and makes him look like a badass. I played XD growing up and never knew about colosseum until I was older, but even then I would love to see pokemon do something like this again

    I've been wanting them to come back to this for years. The anti-hero MC (that they needed to expand on) that had an awesome character design, catching other trainer's pokemon to purify them, great animations, taking down an evil organization as the main plot, SIM battles, everything this game had to offer. This was the biggest turn for the series and it's sad that they never tried this again after Gale of Darkness.

    Sometimes I forget that there are millions of kids who were born long after the days of GameCube and, thus, didn't get to play this game. :P I was 22 years old when the game released in the US and my sister was in high school. We clocked in so many hours on this game, though I guess that doesn't mean much, considering we did the same thing to every game we've owned. Don't get me started on how much of our lives we "wasted" on Puzzle League. 😆 N64 and GC will always be my favorite consoles.
    I'm glad newer generations can enjoy these amazing games. Colosseum was an incredibly unique game that my sister and I enjoyed a lot. We still have it. We rarely get rid of our games. Still have a lot of our old NES, SNES, PSX, and PS2 games. ❤️
    We, sadly, never got Gale of Darkness. By the time I hunted for it, it was already way over priced. Someday...

    Fun little thing I ended up figuring out years later after my first playthrough as a kid, the game actually does give you a decent way to grind up for the final Battles of the story Via the many other Colosseums throughout the Region. While the Phenac Colosseum is definitely meant for those who wanna train up non-story party members, the Pyrite Colosseum and the Under Colosseum are great ways to train because all the teams in those Colosseums are all Type based, so its perfect to raise certain types that are in need of grinding.

    I never played this game or its sequel (mainly due to not having a GameCube), but what I've seen of them has really caught my interest. I really wish for there to be another game of this sort at some point in the future. Not necessarily a direct follow-up to the GameCube duology, just a Doubles-focused game in general.
    Thing is, I feel that Double Battles open up a lot more opportunities for difficult and memorable boss fights as well as creative player strategies/tactics than Single Battles ever could. (And since many people, rightfully or not, complain that Pokémon is "too easy", maybe a game of this sort would satisfy that crowd). I, for one, would love to rise to the challenge and see how clever I can get with the possibilities Doubles offer.
    And as Monger says, despite how much attention was drawn to their introduction in Gen 3, Doubles have always been incredibly underused in the main series (albeit Emerald at least tried), and then you have all these moves and Abilities clearly meant for Doubles (Wide Guard, Helping Hand, Heal Pulse, Plus/Minus, Telepathy, Healer...), but of course you'll never use them in a playthrough where the amount of Double Battles you'll face can be counted on one hand.
    It's sad, really. I get that we can get to see some of that in PvP and in Battle Facilities (Tower -& clones-, Frontier, PWT and such), but imagine getting to develop and adjust your Doubles playstyle over the course of a full-fledged campaign. It would be a whole other experience. One we haven't been offered since Gen 3.

    I'm glad they havent forgotten this series if they bothered bringing shadow pokemon into GO but hopefully it just hints to a revival of this spinoff in the future. Not only did this introduce a good way of getting new pokemon but the syndicate is my favorite even out of the mainline evil organizations..a team that solely goes for conquering by weaponizing pokemon by closing their hearts is the most brutal thing without being too crazy like "resetting the universe" or something. It even shows with how much stronger a shadow is than their normal form so it adds for a bit of strategy while dealing with them. Even the double battles was fun in these games.
    Besides this series came out when only gen 3 came out. We are into what, 8 now, so there's a lot more potential to have a mix of pokemon to make as neat shadows to catch. Most likely it'll have to take place anywhere but Orre though with the type of pokemon we know are already there.
