You will want to disassemble and grease all of the ratchets. They were greased originally in the 80's but the grease they used breaks down quite a bit over time. Probably why they break so easily these days...also check the springs, they corrode often and the plastic they push on often breaks too. My Metroplex back in the 80's rotated both directions at the waist so you really should at least check and grease that ratchet
I don’t know about that. He can move his arms up and down, spin his wrists, and rotate at the waist (carefully!), and his legs can go up and down and even out. He’s pretty decent by g1 standards.
...I misread that as 'The black people flip out to form a missile launcher'. And I'm like, 'What crazy-ass 1970s blaxploitation kung fu sentai movies are you watching?
Ngl I wouldn’t mind more videos on G1 I’m not even a hardcore G1 fan, I just find the toys so fascinating. I’m trying to collect as many of the Starscream mold as I can.
My dad gave me this toy, my Nan and uncle who were in charge of looking after my dad’s stuff didn’t do a good job and lots were lost including parts of metroplex. I only have the limo the hands and one red gun. I loved this toy as a kid and I want the titan one but never had the money especially now lol (Hasbro reissue it!) my favourite mode is the land ship as I’ve always loved the concept of land ships. The land ship was missed transformed, the black panel under the helipad flips down to reveal missiles. The land ship was the mode my dad taught me about first and the black panel is one of the first things he told me to be careful of. Mine has rubber tires and Crome legs (I didn’t even know about other versions until this vid) but none of the problems mentioned I’ve suffered and he’s survived two generations of play. One of my goals is to complete my dads figures and restore them such as getting a trailer for prime, everything for metroplex and all the little bits for the scramble combiners (feet and heads). I grew up with G1 thanks to my dad (I was born in 2002) and I love H1 figures to bits, for my birthday got many transformers including the new animation accurate hot rod reissue and that was my favourite figure out of the lot. I even have multiple copies of G1 devastator. Seeing someone else enjoy one of my favourite figures of all time makes me happy, glad you get to play with him at his full glory.
I wanted this G1 Transformer so bad as a kid in the 80s. My parents owned a Chinese restaurant across the street from one of the toy stores that have this on display selling for around $48 complete in a box. I keep coming in a few times everyday to the store staring at it and after 2 weeks the security guys didn't allow me to come in anymore. To this day I have not pulled the trigger to buy it even though I could afford it now. It was such a dream toy in 1986 for a 8 year old.
I think the only downside to metroplex is that you had to be of a very specific age to enjoy it. You had to be old enough that you could play with a toy that could be a little fragile but still young enough that you had boundless imagination and the ability to take a figure of the size of Optimus prime or Sun streak and play with them around your transformed metroplex as if he was the size of a actual city.
honestly, if they upscaled this guy to make scamper deluxe-sized, he would be better than most titans. no new engineering, no knees, just a straight up upscale. also i got mine for EIGHT DOLLARS???? granted he has no accessories and like half the stickers but still, chromed thighs and rubber tires metroplex for eight bucks!
Hope you can use all that money you saved to find an upgrade kit or 3D printed something out there that'll give him even nicer guns that turn into an even nicer Sixshot
Yup. There's plenty of bigger robots where, I'll see the accessories costing a terrifying amount, but if you troll eBay long enough you can get the base robot for pennies. Headmaster bodies especially. I found an Arcana at a collectibles shop for $20. Didn't take long to find a good condition Brainstorm body for less than $40. *...And then there was the matter of buying his two excruciatingly-expensive nosecone guns.*
The Battle Station mode reminds me a bit of an enemy boss in Area 88/U.N. Squadron, a massive aircraft carrier on treads that roamed the desert. It apparently also appeared in the manga, which is crazy. I would love to see Metroplex and good ol' Omega Supreme get screen adaptations.
I had Metroplex as a child, I had an idiot cousin who never respected or appreciated other’s things that weren’t his own, he snapped mine at the rotation point and it was heart breaking, he and scorpinok were all I got for Christmas that year. I will get him again, just be some time.
My favorite citybot then Fortress Maximus. Love Metroplex, his city mode was so much fun as a kid to play with. I recently got a Encore Fortress Maximus and that thing is insane! Almost 2' tall and heavy. The only Transformers base with an elevator! But it all stared with Metroplex!
I had the original Metroplex. The waist on mine could turn both directions. I REALLY love that design. The transformation is so simple yet fantastic. There is also a multi missile bay in the black section on his left chest under the helipad. Still a fantastic review. Very nice toy. Very nice review!
I was super lucky to find an Encore Metroplex on ebay for just 160 USD, damn near perfect condition too. Happy youre able to enjoy him too now, definitely my favorite g1 toy!
I'm not sure if your aware but the smaller black compartment on the right side open to reveal a missile bank. Great review I have not messed with mine in over a decade. Truly an involved and thought out Transformers Playset and a lot of G1 Transformers were on the smaller side. So a serviceable city base for them.
I love local shops, at mine I found a G2 color complete Devastator for $100 usd, as well as a G1 color 2007 Voyager Bayverse Starscream for like 90-something, it’s amazing some of the stuff you can find at shops like that
He has missiles on the front left chest piece if you flip the black panel down. I had this guy as a kid and loved it. Have a copy for my son stashed away for Xmas this year. He's gonna flip. Finally he can have someone to battle his Trypticon! 😋
If it's any consolation, G1 Metroplex is more fun and a better toy than the T30 Generations version, I hope that if we do see a G1 Metroplex again it would be a new design rather than a reissue of the 2013 release
I was in a comics shop, looking over their TFs, and there was just a bag- a Ziplog plastic bag- of like 70% of Metroplex's accessories. Probably they sold one, and the baggie of all his stuff fell down the back of the shelves and no one noticed it. So I asked to buy it and it was like $20? I was trying not to show excitement, knowing that Metroplex's accessories tend to cost way more than the base figure. So then it was just a matter of eBaying a junker and fixing him up . He's missing his knee hangars, but I don't think I paid more than $75 total. Takes way more time, but it also feels nice to restore a crappy one to glory.
I have this one complete in one piece on my shelf purely because I owned one as a kid. I love how he looks but my siege Jetfire is def. to big. Great review! I don't think I have seen you do it but the black part under the helipad can flip down and are more "missiles" to shoot from.
I wish Hasbro, Takara, or some 3rd party company would make a legends/core class Metroplex figure so we can do the "Metroplex heeds the call" shot, but the other way around.
My Metroplex G1 ceased to exist in an eartquake. It fell from the display and just shattered in pieces, was beyond reconstruction. The city mode was a good display for the scout/legends/ciberverse scale (now core)
Dude there's a great shop called Dark Matter toys in St thomas ontario that has TONS of authentic G1s including boxed metroplex, boxed megatron, boxed ultra magnus, boxed jazz, etc
I'm surprised that tower stays pegged onto the back of his right shoulder. Mine's _extremely_ loose and is constantly flopping down. Gav's did the same thing (or his Metrotitan and KO Metrotitan did), so you're really lucky to have yours peg on so securely.
I think that's pretty cool that you appreciate those g1 figures. Today's standard.. the figures are bricks. But theres a fun simplicity and rawness that's still kind of fun
I wanted to get one for a while, but didn't want to pay the "full price", not getting a K.O. So I ended up buying two incomplete G1 Metroplexes for the price of one complete one. Now I have a complete G1 Metroplex and another to complete slowly. But then, I happened upon a G1 Metroplex that was broken in half! I repaired that body and I found out that it's G1 combiner limbs compatible! I had an incomplete G1 Strafe and he works well as a "kneepad". Then, I bought 3 other G1 Strafes to complete the "armor". And for the fists, the Legacy Blitzwing's "clown hands" are a perfect fit! The sleeves fit snugly on Metroplex arms! Now, only some heavy repainting is needed to complete that custom.
Tbh I like the look of thos figure but I dont wanna spend my entire time worrying about if it's gonna fall apart in my hands. Is it really as fragile as people say? As in, can I transform it and move the joints around frequently and will the plastic survive for long? What im saying is, can I PLAY with this guy? Can I just enjoy the figure and not have to worry about the pegs snapping or the joints ripping themselves apart? One guy mentioned springs tearing apart the plastic, im hesitant now 😅
I got this guy for a while however his torso spin for me is fine and I can turn him both ways. I have most accessories and his right shoulder's antenna is broken and its gone but he does have a finnicky head for me where it doesn't pop down.
I also have a first-run G1 Metroplex but mine is missing a few accessories. I also own an original G1 Scorponok also missing a few accessories. I own T30 Metroplex as well.
I've got KGDM Slammer, adore him and I'd love Sixgun to be reissued. And, honestly, I kinda would like a Generations Metroplex, but....uhh...big and expensive.....no space...pain Also, G1 Metroplex looks pretty good! Hes got a charm to him!

be careful of the left arm also i remember mine broke there when i was a kid and we ended up having to replace it coz nothing could fix it once the arm fell off.
One of the greatest G1 toy ever, i don't have him and I don't have a lot of money but I'm going to buy a 1 to 1 bootleg of him soon that's what i can afford.😅
Metroplex is like, the most iconic brick in Transformers to me, I love him.
Especially the OG Generation one toy.
Now you may have a point
But- soundwave
Brickplex
Metroplex. His chest, the little black piece. It folds down through you missiles.
Drove me crazy he never opened the best part of this toy
You will want to disassemble and grease all of the ratchets. They were greased originally in the 80's but the grease they used breaks down quite a bit over time. Probably why they break so easily these days...also check the springs, they corrode often and the plastic they push on often breaks too. My Metroplex back in the 80's rotated both directions at the waist so you really should at least check and grease that ratchet
Ratchet: [rubs nipples] "Yes. Do what he says."
He's the only transformer that people are fine with being a giant brick. Love g1.
Yeah, people always make inaccurate Optimus prime G1 design, like he is a brick, let him be a brick and stop RUINING HIS WAIST
I don’t know about that. He can move his arms up and down, spin his wrists, and rotate at the waist (carefully!), and his legs can go up and down and even out. He’s pretty decent by g1 standards.
[Broadside off in a corner, looking sad]
The black peace flips out to form a missile launcher
...I misread that as 'The black people flip out to form a missile launcher'.

Just realising that there might be a G1 Metroplex in my Grans house since I spotted those accessories in the old Lego box :O
Go and find It! Seriously and tell us if you found it.
Ngl I wouldn’t mind more videos on G1
I’m not even a hardcore G1 fan, I just find the toys so fascinating. I’m trying to collect as many of the Starscream mold as I can.
''So all of these guns combine to form the character 'Sixgun' who looks like an idiot-''
That sudden cut killed me HAHA
forgot about the flip out missile bay under the helipad area, the black bar
Also the gun that flips around from the tower on his back, but that requires rotating (which he doesn't want to do so as to avoid breakage)
My dad gave me this toy, my Nan and uncle who were in charge of looking after my dad’s stuff didn’t do a good job and lots were lost including parts of metroplex. Meteoplex heeds the call of last prime
GOD i hope we get a new titan class g1 metroplex soon, my guy needs a base mode that actually looks convincing
I have always wanted any of the g1 titans. Fort max is my favorite but this guy, hes the first ever transformers I saw on the screen.
I remember getting Metroplex for Christmas. Do I still have him, HELL yes. Transformers, especially the original, will always be forever.
I'll always Love g1 the best because what it lacked our imagination made up for it
I’m glad I got my metroplex as a KO for $20
Ah yes, another Metroplex lover! So happy to have met you at TFCon! Great video as always
honestly, if they upscaled this guy to make scamper deluxe-sized, he would be better than most titans. no new engineering, no knees, just a straight up upscale.
also i got mine for EIGHT DOLLARS???? granted he has no accessories and like half the stickers but still, chromed thighs and rubber tires metroplex for eight bucks!
Idc if he's got no accessories dude, that's a once in a lifetime deal!
Nice fined.
Hope you can use all that money you saved to find an upgrade kit or 3D printed something out there that'll give him even nicer guns that turn into an even nicer Sixshot
Wouldn't an upscale be just Fort Max?

@@AlexReynard idk why like to sell him with the weapons for so much more. maybe because so many of the old ones were lost.
I remember seeing this in the little catalogue that came with G1 toys and thinking how massive it looked.

I had him when I was a kid. The middle broke on mine. Got a reissue for $50 and are happy.
I was too young to notice, but after three decades I now notice the fascinating Dieter Rams design cues. Which is super weird to see.
Especially in his landship mode.
I had Metroplex as a child, I had an idiot cousin who never respected or appreciated other’s things that weren’t his own, he snapped mine at the rotation point and it was heart breaking, he and scorpinok were all I got for Christmas that year. I will get him again, just be some time.

I’m happy for your catch. I bought mine 12 years ago at eBay. 18 €, complete. Have a nice day 😊
18 euros!? That's a steal!
@@Gridseeker indeed
2:30 you just unlocked a core memory for me. I remember having this as a child and being bothered by the fact it would only rotate one way.
If it's any consolation, G1 Metroplex is more fun and a better toy than the T30 Generations version, I hope that if we do see a G1 Metroplex again it would be a new design rather than a reissue of the 2013 release

The Encore release is nice if you don't want the risk of dealing with decades old plastic. It's usually still white, too 😁
Metroplex heads the call of the last prime to quote this day

One of my 'time warp' Transformers that can take me back to a time and place just by looking at him. Also, I would like to live in him. Great video.
"He doesn't do much" - TTG
"A Plexypus?"
:GASP!!!: "Metro the Plexypus!?!"
I remember buying this as a kid at Toy R Us for around $35-$45
Man I wish I had a local shop with good stuff like this
My Metroplex G1 ceased to exist in an eartquake.
It fell from the display and just shattered in pieces, was beyond reconstruction.
The city mode was a good display for the scout/legends/ciberverse scale (now core)
So glad someone else likes his rolly battle station carrier on wheels thing
Dude there's a great shop called Dark Matter toys in St thomas ontario that has TONS of authentic G1s including boxed metroplex, boxed megatron, boxed ultra magnus, boxed jazz, etc
Did you know, on his chest, the black part that is not the "garage" door can be rotated/pushed to reveal some silver thingamaging.
i got a TFE metroplex few months ago. this is my holy grail of transformers.
Sixgun’s two torso pieces actually can store away in Metroplex’s leg compartments.
I'm surprised that tower stays pegged onto the back of his right shoulder. Mine's _extremely_ loose and is constantly flopping down. Gav's did the same thing (or his Metrotitan and KO Metrotitan did), so you're really lucky to have yours peg on so securely.
When my notifications went on I thought it was the generations metroplex but not still good review
I used to have this guy...pretty cool. Also, that black section in front of the hel-pad folds down...they're a section of missles.
Just hearing that line from the game gives me chills. Man they need to remake those stat !! I’d buy and an Xbox for those games
Cool. If they ever do a Studio 86 version, or Missing Link, I'd pre-order.
9:51 YEAH YEAH YEAH
Had him as a kid. Loved him. Well played with
I just bought one at an antique mall for 20 bucks, just gotta find his accessories now!
Metroplex was one of my favorite toys as a kid.
I wish I didn’t break him.
He definitely was one of my favorite Transformers to play with as a kid.
I think that's pretty cool that you appreciate those g1 figures. Today's standard.. the figures are bricks. But theres a fun simplicity and rawness that's still kind of fun
Nice, a Transformers Animated place!

Battlestation mode is a fun time you didnt even pop out the chest missiles though
This and M&R getting Jedi Bob's starfighter, we're seeing some epic toy finds this week
I got Metroplex and Trypticon the same Christmas. Sold Metro, but I think Trypticon is in a box in a box in my mom's basement.
I got this guy for a while however his torso spin for me is fine and I can turn him both ways. I have most accessories and his right shoulder's antenna is broken and its gone but he does have a finnicky head for me where it doesn't pop down.

I love how derpy g1 metroplex looks
Happy for you :)
There's a KO of G1 Metrotitan going around right now and it's pretty cheap.
//A few years later//
Missing Link Metroplex
I have no idea how much he would cost...
2:42 I joke when i say this, but G4 Volta and G5 Iguazu?!? Is that you?!?
Smaller than i expected
Except for fortress Maximus all the big guys are kinda small
Because it was supposed to be a Diaclone toy.
I've got KGDM Slammer, adore him and I'd love Sixgun to be reissued. And, honestly, I kinda would like a Generations Metroplex, but....uhh...big and expensive.....no space...pain
Also, G1 Metroplex looks pretty good! Hes got a charm to him!
It makes sense that the torso only turns one way, whomever broke their copy must have forced it to turn the other way
Got this one for my birthday
Still have him
Can’t wait for G1 Trypticon
I had one back in the day, took great care of it, then my brother lost me some parts and broke it in 2 😕
I’ve been looking for him recently
If you get really clever and careful, everything *will* store in every mode. You can fit Sixgun's torso bits inside the shins, for instance, and shove Slammer inside the tower, inside Metroplex's tit hangar. Just experiment with angles long enough and there ya go. The double-barrelled red gun also fits nicely inside the tower.
Also, IIRC, the white spire can plug into one of the screw holes in the crotch in city mode.
be careful of the left arm also i remember mine broke there when i was a kid and we ended up having to replace it coz nothing could fix it once the arm fell off.
IIRC The TakaraTomy reissue remedied the waist issue.
I’d like to point out that Archie sonic at one point became the writer of the Archie comics since the real ones were busy or something like that
One of the greatest G1 toy ever, i don't have him and I don't have a lot of money but I'm going to buy a 1 to 1 bootleg of him soon that's what i can afford.😅
Got mine for 50 Canadian Dollars. Though its missing slammer, its still such a good deal
i wonder when we get a small scale
Ive seen a G1 Magnus at a collectible store I go to, Its probably like 50-70 bucks.
Till all are one, F Metroplex
He's so much smaller than I remember him being.
YOU NEVER OPENED THE SPIKE SHOOTER BAY IN THE BACK THING !
He is a brick, but he's a nice brick is the best way to put it for me.
Bruh I am ashamed that I never new the origin of the character sixgun
If you get thrilling 30 metroplex you've gotta get segie sixgun too.
Hell yeah, geewun
Got an ad for some phone company call Metro Flex while watching this video. Was that on purpose?
Wait, you didn't open the missile spam battery under the helipad?!
i got one of these but sadly he is missing his hands and his knee cap things
