Ahh, JRX! One of my favourite parts of Carrobots. After the wilderness years and the beast years, it felt so good to have actual proper transformers again.
I got a Rail Racer at TFCon LA this year (I was the guy that had it at the bar). In my time with it, I feel that yes, Midnight Express' aged joints are an issue for stability. However, I think the larger issue is that Rail Racer is _very_ top heavy. Midnight Express is the lightest of the three, so having the two heavy guys on top of him is a recipe for disaster and the main reason I'd love a generations remake. I don't regret getting him, I think he's the coolest looking combiner in all of transformers and I still like him, but that is a big flaw with him.
I love this set. I got the Car Robots JRX set before I got RID Rail Racer, and the entire thing is mostly clear painted plastic. Tabs too. Terrifying to put together now.
This is a really common mistransformation and it took me ages to find, but you can actually open the front of the shoulder and fold them along the nosecone, and that lets you bend the arm at a different joint to give him more natural arms. Also, you can pull out the short heel spur and his balance problems are much better.
All 3 of mine in train mode and individual robot mode are nearly perfect, a lil wobble, combiner mode mine tend to lean forward a bit. But considering that they are 23 or so old, I think, all things considered, they help up pretty well. They seem all stay white, something even modern transformers struggle with. As always, another great video!
My favorite part of these guys is that they're very close to 1/100 scale in train mode (a tiny tiny bit smaller, more like 1/105-1/110 scale), so they sit on my 1/100 scale variety shelf with a ZZ Gundam, a Xabungle, and a Tetsujin 28.
I do hope we get a new Titan Class Rail Racer in either 2025 (next year) or in 2026. I think he should be a Titan because… 1: A: individual releases of Railspike, Rapid Run and Midnight Express wouldn’t sell well at retail. B: it would be a nice companion piece to Haslab Omega Prime, and Age of Primes Sky Byte. and mostly, C: in the show both he and the individual members of team bullet train were MASSIVE compared to the other Autobots, including Optimus and even Omega Prime. He’d be perfect for a Titan Class Combiner in my opinion. Maybe they can use the extra budget to make the engineering and articulation for both the individual members of team bullet train and rail racer spectacular. And also some added paint and maybe even blast effects.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it already but you missed transformed the arms in combined mode, they pull out further and fold another step forward to help with clearage with the rear jet pack.
For someone who interested in train transformer/combiner Check out the Sinkalion series most of them is part forming but those are good toys (Also one shinkalion is hommage of rail racer)
Way back, Hasbro's Aaron Archer explained that this set fell into the no man's land of not fitting into any of Hasbro's price points, so it was difficult to find a place for them to be reused. They were a bit too expensive for Deluxes, but not enough to be Voyagers.
Fold Railspike's hips out another 90 degrees on the inner hinge that's unengaged in your video and then back out on the smaller hinge. The arms will sit a bit further forward and make it much less back heavy.
Since it becomes his biggest gripe, I just want to reiterate: his short heel spur extends to match the longer one and his balance is better. Also both feet have ankle pivot, or 'toe' pivot.
The combined mode shoulders are on a double hinge, it will give you much better clearance, and balance the weight better. Also, don’t extend Midnight Express’s waist for combined mode, it will be better proportioned and stand better.
Collapse the hips and flip up the crotch of Midnight Express. Also Railspike first slides onto Rapid Run, and then clips on. Also also, the guns of Railspike and Midnight Express combine. The shield is just the shield.
Interesting that the Hasbro version doesn't have the clear plastic JRX has, the tabs for combinerd mode have mostly broken on mine but he does looks nice. Love the early 2000's energy he has going on

I love this set and always will and still have mine. Sadly midnight express suffers the most of the three. Into a year of having him back when these where brand new and I was a per teen. The arm started popping off and then those giant legs started losing there friction for combined mode so railracer started to sink on one side. But even for their problems I love my train combiner and I will forever hope they and Raiden will see one day into the generations line. And so now my midnight express I had to glue the legs to keep them up since it stopped holding him. So he is forever leg mode until I can find another midnight run for cheap that's just parts and I can fix my original Edit: Railspike is 500 Series Shinkansen (the 2 bullet train released in Japan, that replaced the class 0 which where the first bullet trains and I use to think he was one for his age until I got older) midnight express is a E4 series"Max" bullet train And Rapid run is a 700 series shinkansen

Have you checked out Takara Tomy’s Shinkalion line? There’s a lot of partsforming involved but I definitely feel like the designers took inspiration from Rail Racer.
I want a new series of Transformers so badly. Not just a limp show that acts as a commercial. Something where you can watch it separately and enjoy it for what it is. And I want it _full_ of train combiners. Cars are so... done, you know? It really kills the mood when you want the Autobots to spring into action and they can't because of traffic. Plus trains and trams scale better with planes and tanks! And we haven't even got on to how much cooler trains look! Have you ever seen those train dragon mechs people do where they take a train and draw it as a dragon? They're so fucking cool!
I never had enough room to keep my set in the combined form, so I always kept them in train mode. But they’ve been in train mode for so many years that the screws and pins rusted to the point that I can really move the joints anymore.
Got these guys when I was a kid. My parents had actually gotten them shipped in from Japan Aaaaaannnnndddd yeah most of the joint problems are from there age (Just like me)

Now I want to see combiners made out of 4 or 3 bots only
Like *Magnaboss* from Beast Wars Neo & *Landfill* from RID 2001?
@@MorphingGrid101Magnaboss is beast wars second for Japanese version and just beast wars for American version. Tripredacus/Tripledacus is the other one
@@thebrokenreader5842 I love Tripredacus :)
ever heard of the Brave Series? 8 48 episode on average shows all with transforming robots and averaging 3-4 combiners per show
also Car Robots/RID2001 were HEAVILY inspired by it and the Unicron trilogy would follow similarly
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer i haven't
Dude, this was the first transformer combiner that got me in the damn world. 9 yo me still needs this.
I would love to fond a complete version of these guys.
I would love a new version of these, maybie like 3 Voyagers that can combine, that would be great
I have these. They work pretty well. I haven't messed with them in a long time, but I never had some of the trouble you had with these ones.
Wish they can do trianbots (any kind idc) in what’s next after legacy
1:37 No, no…They always came off easily. Fresh out of the box in 2001, popped off all the time.
Bro thinks he’s ToQ-Oh
Love these figures,I have mine next to landfill
I had those back in the day, the looseness is definitely because of age, mine where always super stiff.
I never had enough room to keep my set in the combined form, so I always kept them in train mode. But they’ve been in train mode for so many years that the screws and pins rusted to the point that I can really move the joints anymore.
What perfect timing I just got Legacy Sideburn today
You still haven’t gotten that Pizza Party from Hasbro have you?
Nope, not yet lol
@@ThatToyGuy one day
I woke up today thinking “Rail Racer is my favorite combiner” and look at this
I've said it before, I'll say it again: I'd love to see these guys get the Legacy Treatment!! 😁😅👍🍀
YOO IM ALSO A TRAIN COMBINER 🔥🔥🔥
I had this set as a kid. I loved it
I've got a "Train Combiner" on my "big bot shelf".... But it's a Megazord!
Team Shinkansen were my favorite of Car Robots along with Gelshark
They should definitely make a legacy version of them
Got these guys when I was a kid.
My parents had actually gotten them shipped in from Japan
Aaaaaannnnndddd yeah most of the joint problems are from there age
(Just like me)
These are some Really Useful Autobots.
Maybe Hasbro will revisit these characters in the near future and give collectors a new modern toy.
You said you wouldn't get the moon studio Raiden before, but would you consider it now?
I hope he does because it's really worth it
I just got the moon studio train bots and they are absolutely amazing
I always wanted to get this set, but I could never find them in store. Now, on places like eBay, it is out of my reach, price wise.
"This guy's built like me..."😂
Love these figures, I have one to many copies. Keep them away from sunlight though!
JRX got that gangsta lean...literally.
