Osomatsu-San is good to watch!
1. Steins;Gate - It is a Sci-fi , Time-travel anime. It is a very good anime, good plot, interesting characters and very satisfying. It is meant to be confusing at the beginning but everything get's more clear the more you watch. It is my #1 anime of all time. Highly recommended.
2.Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood - Considered "the best anime ever made" by some people. It's very interesting and both you and your wife would enjoy it.
3.Death Note - Classic anime, very good. Basically a teenager finds a notebook one day which has the power to kill anyone as long as you know their name and face. The teenager decides to use the notebook to purge the world of criminals and create a utopia without criminals.
4. Attack on Titan - Very popular anime, a lot of people hate on it just because it is "mainstream" but ignore that. Attack on Titan is really good and I recommend it.
5. Erased (Boku dake ga inai machi) - Very interesting and tear jerking anime, I think both you and your wife would enjoy this one.
6. Arslan Senki (Heroic Legend of Arslan) - A medieval anime which is set in the year 320. Very unique and worth checking out.
(Btw Boogie, people recommending Boku no Pico.. It is.. very weird.. It's basically about an underage boy getting it on with a grown guy.. Watch it if you dare..)
I have seen 1-5, I think he will like steins gate although it's a big mind fuck. FMA he would love, Death Note is okay, AoT may be a little too much gore for him (was scary for me being my first anime, especially the first episode), Erased he would love, haven't seen the last list, overall good list though

Steins;Gate wasn't even that confusing. When I used to be a more casual watcher (I was 13 or 14), I still had no problem understanding it.
I will also add Cowboy Bebop - another classic one and Gurren Lagann - for the 'weird shit'

Watch Clannad! It's hailed as one of the Holy few anime almost impervious to Internet hate. Nothings perfect, but it has some beautiful ups and downs, and is unrelenting with feels. Stick it out to the 2nd season, because that's where the real magic starts.
I really hope Boogie watches clannad and clannad afterstory and then talk about it in one of his videos, I really want him to :'c

If you want a genuinely beautiful anime with a mix of romance, comedy and tragedy, Your Lie in April is something I would recommend above all else. To give you a sense of its tone, I'd compare it to the Titanic movie.
For you specifically though Boogie, I have to warn that it deals with themes of a parental abuse, illness, and death. I imagine that's a non-issue if you can handle Berserk, but, I feel as though the stuff with the main character's mother may hit home for you a bit more than you're comfortable with. That said, if you're up for it, it is my favorite anime bar none.
I recommend Jojo's Bizarre Advneture it is off the wall weird good action strange style most of all awesome story.

Best anime in my opinion
A Few suggestions would be: Assassination Classroom, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Future Diary, Nisekoi, Psycho-Pass, Your Lie in April, Soul Eater, ReLIFE, A Certain Magical Index/A Certain Scientific Railgun, and Deadman Wonderland. They are all varying in subject matter but all super enjoyable.
Also The Devil is a Part-Timer! It was a show that even my dad could really enjoy. It's just a really fun show and the dub is really good.

I recommend the Robotech TV Animated series, especially the first part: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross
It was in 1982 and had great music with a love story set on this robotic tech war backdrop. Quite interesting I thought.

As someone that has been watching anime for a long time.I know alot of people will submit you anime thats very well known to people that do not really know alot of animes. I'd like to recommend to you one of the following:
- Sakurasou no pet na kanojo(Slice of Life Romantic comedy with everything a good story needs)
-Toradora(IThe comedy aspect of it is very high but it does not negate the romance that is going on)
-Your lie in april (classical music and a tearjerking lovestory)
-Gosick (Alot of intriguing mystery going on paired with a detailed colorful story)
-Nagi no asukura (People living underwate/eyecandy of the highest quality mixed with a lovly story and alot of twists)
-Spice and wolf
-Steins Gate (complex story and "mad" scientist)
Gaming related anime you might enjoy:
-Log Horizon(Clever tactician weaving plans while beeing trapped in an mmo)/Sword Art Online:(A guy with a Sword fighting in a live or death game (First season is mindblowing but the second arc is meh, still second season was very nice and the comming season might be a game changer for the anime and the critcs it's having)
These are some of the shows that are not your everyday suggestions. They are awesome shows and I hope you can find one to enjoy them with your wife.

You should check out Sword Art Online! It's on Netflix. It's about people that play a virtual reality MMORPG and get stuck inside. They are unable to disconnect. They only way they can a log out is if they beat the game. If they die in game, they die in real life too. I think you and your wife would enjoy it! Happy Belated Birthday Boogie!

NO NO NO! SAO IS TERRIBLE!
SAO is pure garbage. From the point Yui is introduced on is one of the worst written, laziest, unbelievable, anime I've ever seen. Reki Kawahara (SAO's mangaka) can't write a female character that isn't in love with Kirito while also not able to flesh out Kirito's character. There is nothing redeemable about the writing and the only thing that stands out is the animation.
Seans feels like the writer never had interaction with women(or forgot to take psychology classes to make his characters believable)

Boogie I would recommend watching Overlord. It's currently only got 1 season of 13 episodes and a short 8 episode OVA miniseries. It has plenty of action, a great story, some romantic comedy, and shows what it would be like if a gamer would be given all the powers of his character and tries to take over the world. This is my absolute favorite anime and I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I never tried anime besides big ones like naruto and maybe Dragon ball z(both of which I still love) . but every other anime seems to just be rediculously fictional and hard to take serious. like I want a nice show that has some comedic element but at the same time I can actually follow the storyline

Boogie you should watch Log Horizon. The premise is that an MMORPG like WoW has become reality, not that the characters are stuck in a game from futuristic VR technology, but the game itself has replaced the world they previously lived in. It focuses a lot on world building and character development and also the problems one faces when game mechanics become real life mechanics. It's my favorite and I highly suggest it.

I've cut back on my anime watching, but the last three I honest enjoyed where: Dances with devils - You have to give a chance and let the singing just be.It's something new in the anime world, and even if you don't like it, it's different. Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood - OK that's two differant shows, but you have to watch both. They are strong and a bar in what a good anime should be and DeathNote - Another anime that raised the bar. It's put together well and has you really invested in the characters. I also suggest enjoying the live action moves.
A new anime that is currently airing is Sweetness & Lightning. It is too adorable; it is about a single father trying to raise his daughter after his wife passed away and the challenges and joys that comes from it all.

Boogie I have been watching Anime since Akira back in 1988 for me. Admit I like action, sci-fi and weird or funny stuff.
My Recommendations are: ONE PUNCH MAN! - Put superhero tropes on their head and have a laugh
Perfect Blue - One to try and wrap your head around. A real psychological thriller.
Toradora! - Rom/Com that I loved and I never enjoyed any of them before.
I could go one and on but I think you'll love these 3. Keep being an inspiration to us all. A lot of us struggle with our own minds and bodies and seeing you fight and win or fight and fail but always fighting, gives us hope.

Shin Sekai Yori (From A New World), Interesting for the most part. Some, weird disjointed episodes, but if you stick with it, it'll start to click a bit.... Don't expect any real sense of closure.
Bleach is also good, if you havent seen any of it. You can skip all the filler, EXCEPT the Living Zanpakuto Arc. That's actually really good.
NON-Crunchyroll recommendations:
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha - Skip the first season and just watch the first movie instead.

I would recommend the following: Lucky Star (comedy), Trigun (action comedy), Gunslinger Girl Season 1 and 2 (interesting concept with action), Shiki (horror trippy anime), High School of the Dead (zombie action), Clannad Season 1 and 2 (romantic interesting love story).
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, its one of my favorites as the main character is very different from your average MC. I think you will enjoy it since you like rom coms, and this one is a pinnacle of that.

Don't start with Brotherhood. I'd recommend that you watch Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), then Conqueror of Shamballa (movie ending the original series), then Brotherhood. Don't just disregard the 2003 series because it doesn't follow the manga. Also if you try watching FMA 2003 and you really don't like it then you can just skip it and go on to brotherhood, but I strongly recommend watching both.

GATE: Jietai | a lesser known anime that I am really enjoying right now.
Its about a gate that opens up in Japan and people with historical weapons like swords bows and spears come out and attack people of the city. They then send a Defence Force (led by the last person to ever lead the force(the main character)) and they explore the land and meet plenty new things like elves goddess' and mages!
I'm really enjoying this anime as it has 24 episodes in total and counting and I recommend it to everyone if you like comedy romance action supernatural and magic!
Cowboy Bebop! it's a mash of beautiful Jazz music, bounty hunters, and space. Also it's best recommended for people who just started watching anime.

The greatest classic anime ever made was definitely Outlaw Star. It's super old school, costs a fortune to actually get even secondhand, and hopefully crunchyroll has it.
"Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" Is an amazing Anime. It only has 13 episodes right now, but it is definately one of the best animes I have ever seen.

- One Punch Man (Comedy/Action/Gag anime)
- Neon Genesis Evangelion (Psychological anime towards the end, very good and probably considered one of the best. *Although some think it's over-rated. I dissagree*)
- Log Horizon (Same standard story as Sword art online. Trapped in a game *But death isn't permanent. It has another downside to it*)
- Overlord (Yet another show based on being in a game. REALLY good though.)
- Mob Psycho 100 (Created by ONE and currently still airing. For those that don't know, ONE is the creator of One Punch Man)
- Steins;Gate (Psychological show. A lot to do with time travel. Really good)
- Space Dandy (Funny/hilarious gag anime that is just... You have to watch it to understand xD)
- My Hero Academia (About a boy who wants to become a hero. I'm not good at explaining things, but thats the TL;DR of it. Give it a shot, it's season 1 was amazing and I'm sure season 2 will be great as well.)
- Ushio to Tora (Specifically the remake. The remake is obviously the remake of the original anime back in the 90's. Even has the same art style as the 90's would have just a bit updated. If you like YuYu Hakusho then you'd like this)
That's pretty much the ones I can think of right off the bat. And I guess I could go ahead and suggest Clannad as well (Although I've never watched it myself, I've heard a lot of good things about it from my brother and others. Fits your description of what you like.)
"Gintama" is a great comedy! Its a huge anime, but you'll be happy to have a lot of episodes! Also, "Gekkan Soujo Nozaki-Kun" and "Ouran Highschool Host Club" are some of the best romantic comedies I've seen!

Your Lie in April is a great anime. It's pretty much about a child piano prodigy. It's very deep, and don't expect to watch the whole thing without crying a few times. This anime is capable of reducing a grown man to tears, it's really something special. Another anime I can recommend is Sword Art Online since I can imagine you like video games. It's about a virtual reality MMORPG with a grim twist. It's very true to the atmosphere of many MMORPGs. Its characters are well written and it's perfect for nerdy couples.

If you like romantic comedy tho... Well i watch romantic animes with my girlfriend but they almost never stay in my head for long it's easy to forget them but one of the very best romantic comedy i can tell you is Toradora

Boogie, if you're interested in "weird" or "odd" anime, I would totally recommend Nichijou, a slice of life anime about an android who wants to go to highschool and be a normal person despite the fact that their eight-year-old creator, named "The Professor", has built her with very silly functionalities, such as a giant crank on her back that turns her toe into a high-speed missile, and bread dispensers on her arms. It's very goofy, doesn't take itself seriously at all, but it's a blast.

If you like the older stuff, Trigun is amazing and it's only 1 season so you can finish it quickly and move on to other things. Other things like: Samurai Champloo, Love Hina, and Vampire Hunter D.
If you like the weird stuff Gurren Lagann, Samurai Flamenco, and Kill la Kill are HILARIOUS. They are the anime embodiment of "well... that escalated quickly," and they're short. Only 2 seasons each. Perfect for dabling.

Steins; Gate is probably one of the most well written animes i've ever watched, it's a romantic sci fi drama that's a lot of fun and pretty much my favorite show ever.
I know a guy that has a big room in his house completely packed with all kinds of weapons from around the world. From advanced rifles to ancient rifles to tropical blow darts and african spears lol.

Don't know if it's on CrunchyRoll or not but I would recommend Monster. Dark, gripping mystery tale with some very weird twists and turns that I could not stop watching. Would marathon that instead of doing college work. It's one of the best things I've ever watched period.

Fantastic Fantasy/Scifi:
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (Fantastic story), Stein's Gate (Great Sci-fi anime), Gurren Lagann (Because you have to drill to the heavens), Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (Sombre "trapped in a video game" anime), No Game No Life (Very smart anime about puzzles and games in general)
Bloody/Mind Altering:
Attack on Titan (Introspective look at humanity if giants took over), Re:Zero (A "trapped in a video game" bad dream), Gantz (Crazy, reactive anime that will leave you with a lot of questions but I feel is worth it), Parasyte (Introspective look at parasites and humanity as a whole), Mirai Nikki (Crazy anime, crazy characters, pretty in-depth story at the end)
Sweet/Heart Warming:
Usagi Drop (Super sweet adoption story), Spice and Wolf (A merchant and a fox girl's adventures), Natsume Yuujinchou (A boy's adventure to follow in this grandmother's footsteps giving back monsters' names)
I know for a FACT this isn't everything I would recommend. but this is what I can recall. These are big ones that touched me and left lasting emotions.
Kanon, Clannad, and Angel Beats are GREAT romantic comedies with some great drama and all the feels!
A rather short, but great one is Beyond the Boundary, with some romantic comedy elements mixed with action and magic and wonderful character development!
GunGrave is awesome, action packed, dark mafia stuff -- friendships, betrayal, character progression and development starting from the bottom, going to the top, and things get crazy from there. Never Betray...never.
Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero, and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works are some of my absolute favorite anime, and are modern day action-packed fantasy and magic, Mage Masters at war with each other that summon their servants from across time from the seven classes -- Archer, Saber, Lancer, Caster, Assassin, Berserker, and Rider, who are actually Epic Spirits of legend such as Hercules and Cu Chulainn.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica is wonderful, but very different. It's a magical girl anime, yes, but with a huge twist -- It's very, very dark, and shows very real dangers in putting your life on the line to defeat dangerous monsters on a regular basis. It puts a different light on the price of gaining those powers, how it affects your life and mental state, what you require to maintain those powers, and how you deal with loss when things go terribly wrong. Expect cute, yet epic transformations and over-the-top crazy magical powers. Expect people to die in horrible, horrible ways. Expect people to have gotten into more than they thought they signed up for.
Sword Art Online is great (some people say it's terrible, I disagree, but you can be the judge!), it's about a guy who gets trapped with many others on launch day in the first Full Dive video game, where you not only see but feel, taste, and smell everything in the MMO. The creator has decreed that nobody is allowed to log out until all 100 floors are cleared and their bosses are defeated. If someone dies in the game, they die in real life with no respawns, and if someone attempts to remove your helmet, it will also kill you. The MMO literally becomes the players' whole world. Some choose to fight and make way in the game, desperate to get home and willing to risk their lives, while others have accepted their new reality and seek to make a living, setting up shop or finding jobs, it's a very interesting blend of game mechanics and quasi-realism in their daily lives.

Hi Boogie, there's a lot of anime series out there, I'll try to recommend some good ones (old and new) which you might like. Most of these should be easy enough to get into, so just take things at a relaxed pace and I hope you enjoy what you watch:
1 - Cowboy Bebop: an absolute classic, very Western and doesn't suffer from being bogged down by tropes / cliches like a lot of anime series.
2 - .Hack//Sign: Since you like videogames and MMOs, better than Sword Art Online as a 'trapped in a videogame' story.
3 - Mushishi: great, contemplative series with very little need for action.
4 - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: a modern classic, great story, interesting world.
5 - The new Berserk films: since you like Berserk.
6 - Planetes: a slightly more thoughtful series but not intellectualist.
7 - Magical Girl Madoka: probably not what you're expecting at all, a dark reimagining of the magical girl genre.
8 - Gintama: takes a few episodes to get good but I think you'll enjoy.
9 - Ghost in the Shell: if you like your realistic / semi-realistic sci-fi, not much else like it (I recommend the Mamoru Oshii films, didn't enjoy the series as much but others seem to think they're good too).
10 - Fate/Stay Night: a little heavy-going if it doesn't immediately grab you but it probably will. Start with Fate Zero, move on to Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks if you enjoyed.
Some of the fun or popular series (that you might want under your belt if you're going to be talking about anime with the current generation of fans) are:
Attack on Titan, Clannad, Deathnote, Erased, Gurren Lagann (a lot of people's personal favourite), Hellsing Ultimate, Jojo's Bizarre Adventures (this one might be hit or miss), Konosuba, My Love Story, Nana, Neon Genesis Evangelion (absolute classic), Nichijou, No Game No Life, One Punch Man, Re:Zero, Slayers, Steins Gate, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Watamote.
I grew up on these and recommend these (i dig the darker/more gritty stuff):

I know a good funny show, it's called Heaven's Lost Property. One of the few anime's that made me laugh. There's countless "serious" shows that are great. Cowboy Bebop, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note are all ones that are ultra-popular great shows for beginner fans of anime (especially dubbed anime, which is all I'll ever watch).
My 3 recommendations that you must watch or try to at least are:
-Parasyte
-Death Parade
-No Game No Life
(There aren't in a particular order)
Watch Kokoro Connect (genres are romance, comedy, supernatural, and drama) also the Monogatari series (genres are romance, harem, supernatural, comedy, and and mystery).

I don't know if you'll see this or not Boogie, but my recommendation is "Boku dake ga Inai Machi" or simply known as Erased. It is by far the best anime I've watched in at least 10 years, no shit. Hey boogie! I highly recommend the anime ERASED on crunchyroll! It's more suited to adults.
The anime is completed in 1 season so you don't have to invest too much into it and my friends who don't usually enjoy animes have loved it!
It's a thriller and that's about as much as I am going to say as it is lot more interesting going in without knowing too much about it.
