Thanks! Man, you know how to explain exactly what I needed to know about my usb-c mics and recording. No flashing decals, no show-bizz tell-sell style, just the bare facts and - equally important - the pro’s and cons of each choice. Looking forward to more like this 😊

You just saved me!!! I was absolutely lost. Wanted the mic output to go into my integrated audio interface preamps and channel strips!! Thank you so so much!!❤
so i watching a previous video of yours about connecting a usb mic to an audio interface so this is an actually good idea to go with a mixer not the interface...got it
Thanks for the video.. I have the same mixer that I use for karaoke at home and learned a lot about microphones connections. What would you say is the the best microphone and connection for singing clarity going from there microphone directly to to mixer(no computer)?
Nice explanation. You missed to main issues with this kind of connection: 1. Headphone output is meant to use with headphones which have significantly lower impedance than line in on mixer. Connection headphone out to line in on mixer causes impedance mismatch. That can significantly reduce audio quality. 2. Headphone output can produce much higher signal level that what is supposed to use with line input on mixer. That leads to signal distortion at first and may even harm line input electronics in mixer. That is main reason why volume level on headphone output should be kept as low as possible. There are impedance (and level matching devices) that are rather cheap and help avoiding this issues.
Wow this an amazing tutorial. I do have one question though: we are to content creators sitting 4-5 feet away from each other and both using USB Mics. Not always but sometimes during the recording we get echo in some part of the recording. We run all trough OBS. Do you have any quick solution for this. I was thinking buying x2 Diadem mics and audio interface. Would that help? Thanks again on your tutorial
Hi. Your video is very clear and well explained. Very good. My question (which I could obviously solve by doing a practical test) is whether - considering that my USB microphone does not have a headphone output - I can try using the headphone output of the PC to which I connect the microphone (even if only for power). Many thanks.
Hi, great original video because we all heard the blabla about a separate audio interface needed with an XLR mic vs the build in one in an USB mic. I personally believe that the USB mics will continue to evolve and will be closer and closer to the XLR at least for the low to medium quality (may be you should change your yeti vs a se electronic Neom, which is to me the actual number 1, but it's a question of taste 😁) Basically, like you mentioned it, the reproach to this method is to add steps and it would have been better to find a way to disconnect the converter (but not the power). And finally a question remains: is it better than Voice metter banana? Because it does the same thing : - gain -15 band eq -compression + echo adjustment with the tone of the voice + latency adjustment between the mic and the headphone etc A comparison between both solution would be great. 👍👍
For sure. I tell most of my friends to buy the Elgato Wave 3. The software suite and ease of use make it a better solution than a SM7B +SSL2. In the real world, it's about simplicity. There needs to be a reason for every tool you use. Voicemeeter Banana is better than connecting to an external mixer, unless you need to mix multiple channels/mics at the same time. That being said, Voicemeeter Banana isn't very user friendly. It STILL looks/feels like a Gen 1 digital mixer. If I was given a free choice I would go with the Rode NTUSB or Elgato Wave 3 because they come with better software out-of-the-box.
@@kettnercreative Thanks for your answer! I have no knowledge about the elgato. Actually I'm not a big fan of the SM7B. Does it come with a soft like the MV7 (if I don't make any mistakes ) ? Also, I couldn't find a test with the SM7B and the preamp SE Electronics TNT. If it works well, it is half the price of the cloudfilter. I also heard that it is possible to couple the SM7B with the Audio interface + Voice Meter Banana then, you don't need the Cloudfilter. Didn't have time yet to dig more. Hello Jordan. Your channel is growing. That’s awesome. I really want to thank you for all your detailed videos. Your experience in the field definitely gives you an edge in communicating the copious amount of ways to connect sound. 🤘🤘🤘
I got a Blue Yeti for bagpipe lessons through Skype. The mic is very sensitive and so badly distorts the bagpipe sound that it is worse than even laptop mic. Changing settings on mic does not help. Would an audio mixer or interface help to quieten the sounds and make it work really good? Thank you!
This video has been immensely informative and helpful for me getting my podcast started. Question: I have both mics on their neutral setting and haven't changed the setting of either on the mixer, yet the mic plugged into line 2 is audibly quieter than mic one, any reason why this is? Again, this is with all settings on both pieces of equipment completely neutral, and am still getting overall slightly quieter audio from mic 2. Thank you!
Hello Jordan. I am amazed with the amount of information I got from this great video and I learned a lot. My question I have USB mic Hyperx a and I have a Yamaha mixer. I want to know how connect the output of the mixer to my Sony camera. I will appreciate your reply. Thank you again
Great content! Btw I have a Razer Seiren V2 Pro. Can I possibly connect this micro phone to a speaker for live announcements without any audio mixer like you have used? And do I still need a PC for the same?
Why does it have to be an unbalanced audio cable? As i am not sure what cable i have but after connecting it to the ps5 i get a weird humming noise, checked all connections and they are fine
hey Jordan, I have profx 10v3 and tried to hook up a audio tecnia usb (at2020usb+) per your instruction using the unbalanced stereo headphone jack to the 2 1/4 inch. using the 2nd setup per the video. i do not have any control over the eq or the gain or anything. is there a way to fix this?
Did the Elgato Wave mic work for you with these methods? I was able to get my Blue Yeti to work with my Behringer Q502USB following option 1 but my Elgato Wave 3 just hisses.
Thanks for this crustal clear description. I have a FIFINE USB Microphone K669B with a fixed USB cable attached to it. Do I have any chance to connect it to my Yamaha MG-10?
Quick question, why did you connect specifically the left output to the combi jack? Would it have made any difference if you connected the right or used a TRS stereo 1/4 inch cable?
It really doesn't make any difference whatsoever. You can use a TRS 1/4" if you want, but it ignores the second signal in the cable giving you just the left side anyway.
Phantom Power is only needed for Condenser Microphones, and if a Condenser Microphone is designed for USB ports, it should be satisified with the 5 volt signal from the computer, Microphones that are designed to be used with mixers, (that have XLR or 1/4 inch cables) normally use 12 to 48 volt Phantom Power, either built in to the mixer, or supplied through a box that is put in-line with the microphone cable.
Cool video dude! Very informative and stuff. But now connect a Blue Snowball mic to a soundboard that only has 3.5 mm inputs. (Yes I know you cant....well, without spending $200-$400 anyway. Somebody in Taiwan I think has made a small-ish switcher board going from USB in to 3.5 mm out. NEBRON or something. I just dont have that kind of money though. I swear I really do not like techy stuff, and stuff like this just does nothing but pushes me further away from it. Thanks for the info though!)
USB mic input? There is no such thing as USB audio. Essentially USB microphone is microphone + USB sound card. So you will need driver software for that sound card. Obviously, mixer will not run any software.
Title should be "Connect USB Mic (WITH ANALOG AUX OUTPUT) To Audio Mixer". This is non applicable to most USB mics out there which DO NOT HAVE AN AUX ANALOG OUTPUT.
Complete waste of time, I want to connect a USB mic to a box that will output audio, using a computer to do only that is a waste. All I need is a box with a battery , USB in , Audio out. Nobody seems to make one.
