Grass fed ground beef in the one-pound pack is my go-to for meat. Very versatile. They always carry it at my local "Grocery Outlet" for a fraction of the "Sprouts" or "Whole Foods" price. BTW, they also have steaks in vacuum wrap for la bit less than the name stores too. The way the economy is going we need to look for bargains for day-to-day purchases because the little savings do add up.
As a fellow metrics fan, I asked the same question about the information provided by the upcoming OTC CGMs. I want numbers, not just a traffic light. I like the idea of syncing with Levels. That would be a boon for them.
@@MyFatAdaptedLife I think it would be remarkably foolish of Levels not to offer an inexpensive subscription for people using OTC CGMs. Sure, it’s less profit per customer than their current model, but WAY MORE customers.
I've had to block most of those "Keto" pages because of everyone recommending 2 cup servings of sugar free pudding & whipped cream as a healthy snack. Yikes. Then if you mention that's a huge serving of junky garbage you get jumped on. I have commented in the past, hoping to save someone messing up really bad, or giving up on some b@st@rdized version of Keto, based on that kind of recipe. 🙁 I wish more people would do their own research. It's shocking how many "do Keto" by just winging it!
Hope you don’t mind two separate comments. I’m very excited for the OTC CCGMs to be available. I’m not diabetic, but would love to monitor my blood sugars. As a retired nurse, I feel sorry for all the patients who had to have finger sticks 3-4 x/daily. Their poor fingers.
Yes! I'm excited for this also. Im using the freestyle libre 3 and it cost $35 /14 days. Not diabetic so my ins will not cover anything. My Dr. gave me a script so I can monitor my A1C . Grateful but hoping 🤞 LESS costly CGM
I just made your radish fauxtato salad and your broccoli bacon cheddar salad yesterday! Yum. I enjoy watching all of the changes over the years! Thank you so much for all of the information you share. I always learn something new from your videos.
That's funny because I was planning to make the broccoli salad yesterday for a cookout we were invited to, but Terry wanted to use up some of the yellow zucchini from our garden instead, so she made a salad out of that.
WooHoo...I can hardly wait for your previous recipe videos. They ARE THE BEST & yep....fer sure...I will be binge watching them. Thanks you SOOOO much :)
When it comes to recipes these days, my most used search terms are budget friendly, easy, or quick. After one of those I usually either add whatever protein I'm wanting to use, or I add the type of recipe I'm looking to make (breakfast, dinner, snack, sauce, dressing, etc), or add the way I want to prepare it (baked, grilled, instant pot, air fryer, etc). Thanks for putting in the work to create the recipe playlist and add tags to make it easier to find your recipes!
I don't have time to be the ingredient police... but am more than willing to share my experience with sucralose and dextrin.... I'm a super spiker... well beyond what could reasonably be expected. Far worse than "real" carbs. I know what happens to me because of a CGM. Anyone who can tolerate those products, I'm happy for you to enjoy "my" share. I'll also suggest that you test what happens to you... which is the exact point of your channel. Congrats on the new grandbaby!

I've seen some Choc Zero products in Mexico and Canada that seem to have different ingredients from the one's I've seen in the US...I wonder if that's why there is some confusion over their ingredients. Have a fun summer with the grand 'kids' and don't worry too much about your video updates...with all those recipes we've got lots to watch.
Pre-diabetic here, and am super excited to find out more about the OTC CGMs. I will be waiting for your thoughts on them before I make a purchase. Thanks in advance!
Speaking of your old recipes, my wife was just telling me that she wanted me to make some of your stuffing herbs and stuffing chaffles! I need to go back and review some of your older recipes - they were winners, but I got out of the habit of making them... BTW, I don't have a smoker, but I do have an Instant Pot :).
I so appreciate how you really test out all variables for your recipes - a lot of the 'viral' keto stuff is flash-in-the-pan failure. Also excited about the Shrooly - very cool - just the price, yikes! I guess I'm wondering where your cookbook is, lol! Cheers and tons of thanks!

Good morning Steve, OMG I just ordered the jello cheesecake from Amazon. Was wondering on the hype. Should have known better. Didn’t have it locally near me. ETA Friday. 🤦🏻♀️ Hype got me this time because usually I am a label reader which drives my family nuts. 😂. Guess it is a return. Excited about your recipes list. Thanks for all you do. 😊
Depending on if you're worried about your sugar levels or not, I have read the back on the "cook and serve" jello pudding boxes and they are only a handful of ingredients. I don't buy the sugar free version so I can't speak to that or say whether the cook and serve kind has sugar free or not. But worth a look at the store.
I cook most of the beef I can afford with sous vide. I know it takes longer but its always super tender. I wish I had a smoker. ❤ Thanks for all you do for us!
The BEST steak I've ever had ... as confirmed by my family, was a chuck steak, marinated, then cooked in a cast iron pan over a wood fire ... camp site cooking. Tender and delicious.
Thank you for explaining "dextrin"!! I thought they were ALL bad and chose not to purchase products with any of it. 😞 I missed some great deals. My diabetes is back on the rise so something has changed though. I'm bummed about the jello but haven't eaten it in years. I do have unflavored organic beef gelatin that I've used in cookies but would LOVE to have a recipe for jello substitute using the gelatin. About ingredients, my kitchen is small. I have a lot of ingredients living in a Sterlite container in the corner. I've made a decision to limit my use to a couple flours, a couple sugars, protein powders, etc.. I don't even remember why I bought some of these ingredients. I'm keeping it simple from now on. In my diet too. Naan is so versatile its a mainstay. My "go to" desserts of choice are chocolate mousse (Greek yogurt, cocoa powder and Monk fruit) and cheese cake with a pecan crust. After that chocolate walnut bark for candy. And so on. I want to know what to expect from the meter.
That is so great Steve we need to think about how we can make do with what we can afford and make it taste like gourmet and enjoy it My Grandmother cooked cheaper cuts and did so much and it tasted great....we live in trying ttimes right now and need to learn what our granparents and greatgrandparents did with what they had...and they fed alot of people with it...Of course we are Keto so a few adjustments and we can do the same we need to prepare for the worst...I cant wait to see what you will be showing us...By the way I must compliment how you look ....really healthy and great color...Julianna NC
I think ground beef is a pretty good cheap alternative to whole cuts. Lots of tendon and other good things in it. One of the easiest dishes I make is just ground beef, broccoli and some oysters sauce. Fairly low carb and nutritious. Asian taste, and a low carbish meal.
Hi Steve. No worries about your schedule. Very exciting to have a new grandson! And Colton is always a joy! I will try and watch some of your videos as best as I can. I see one now that I’m going to play. 😊
Currently in the Philippines you can purchase a freestyle libre over the counter (Canadian living here temporarily). Albeit the very first model they put out. It doesn’t even have an app that you can use with it. You have to buy the little reader as well. But nonetheless I can still get one. You can also get them OTC in Canada. ( there you can get newest versions that work with the app). They are about $93 CAD here and $100 CAD in Alberta, Canada (so kinda pricey). They last 14 days and the reader gives you actual numbers of your blood glucose. And the app does as well. Although in Canada they measure differently, mmol/L v. your mg/dl. The difference is either multiply or divide by 18. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to hearing about the arrival of your new grandson. Cheers.
I usually buy meat on sale too. My favorite is chuck steak. It is really big, and I buy (4) when it is on sale. Las week it was $4.99 per lb, and one plate had manager special 50% off sale price. I wash all meat, pat dry it, sprinkle w/salt, pepper. Put each steak in separate freezer bag, add a little bit avocado oil, a little bit apple cider vinegar, and transfer all in to freezer. When I am ready to cook it, I defrost it, cook it w/sous vide for 22-24 hours, pat dry, sprinkle w/a little bit more salt on both sides, and finish it on a skillet, one minute at side. It comes out tasting like a steak from fancy restaurant.
The smoked shoulder looks good. You could try cutting it up in chunks and making stroganoff using your cream of mushroom keto chow and lots of mushrooms. I usually skip the noodles but sauté some onions and radishes in place of noodles. Thank you for another video
The arm roast are fantastic, we have been eating them for years. My wife often times cooks the cut in her Instapot. We like it better than chuck roasts.
Steve, have you heard about the recent erythritol study done by Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute? It carries a pretty dire warning about the product, but I know that you are very good about analyzing and critiquing these types of studies. I'm not going to ditch my supply of E until I hear your take on this. I honestly don't know what I would do without your opinion on matters like this. Thank you for your honesty and integrity.
Great video! Thanks Steve! You probably know, my full name is: Steven The Ingredient Policeman. Haha! 😂 But I try to be kind, and you have set a good example. As far as seeing more of Mr. Colton, I can speak for all of us when I say, it will be our pleasure to see him.
Yes Steve...those videos on sale meat will be wonderful because I am also priced out of ribeyes and tenderloin except for special occasions....and I have a full time job with a steady decent paycheck
Abbott may be designating based on if the person is on diabetic medications. A CGM would be a great additional way for someone to safely move to a diet/exercise control status. Transitioning off medications can be scary with low blood glucose numbers.
I love the idea of cheap(er) keto meals, reviews of commonly found foods (like the various flavors of canned tuna now available), time saving meal prep, and main dishes that are easy to make and economical (check out Kristie Sullivan's Reuben Casserole - which also freezes well). Interesting info on maltodextrin and OTC CGM devices. I'm looking forward to your Ryze/mushroom video. Thanks (as always) Steve!!
Fyi, unless something has changed recently, food companies are not required to list maltodextrin specifically and can include it in under the 'natural flavors' ingredient label. LMNT is an example of this as they do not list it but when asked they admit it is an ingredient in their flavors. I'm guessing it depends on the amount. Great podcast today!
I don't know what your source is, but this is directly from the USDA: Maltodextrin is required to be listed on food labels by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA requires that all ingredients in food be listed by their "common or usual name", which includes maltodextrin. If the maltodextrin comes from wheat, it must be listed as an allergen on the ingredient label. So, labeling it as "natural flavors" is both deceptive and potentially dangerous and they could be reported to the USDA.
Recipes with every day ingredients that most of us would have in their pantry. Us Canadians have a hard time getting some of the ingredients used in Keto recipes. Or they are ridiculously priced on Amazon. Thanks!
I’ve been drinking LMNT (I blame the Keto Twins 😂). I like it, so was disappointed to learn it contains maltodextrin, which is NOT included on the ingredients list. I guess it’s a very small amount used to carry the natural flavors, but for me it’s the principle. LMNT markets endlessly to people trying to make healthy choices and their website claims “no dodgy ingredients.” So it shouldn’t be in there or they should be transparent about it. After seeing your video on making electrolytes at home I plan to start making my own. It will save me $ because LMNT is expensive. So thanks for that video Steve! I’ll watch it again this month.
Some Choczero products cause me huge spikes, others no impact at all, and I can't figure out what is different between them. For example, the butterscotch chips have no impact, while the strawberry chips have a huge impact.
I dipped my finger in their white chocolate syrup for a taste and my glucose shot up almost 30 points. The next day, I put 2TB of it in my coffee and there was no movement. So I’m similarly confused.
@@SeriousKetoThis is why I have sworn off all their products. It’s not that they are bad, but that I have irregular responses. Same with Hero bread products, wildly unreliable blood sugar responses. I have made a decision to avoid the ones that cause me to throw up my hands in confusion. It’s not worth it, to be uneasy about a product. Mind you, I have “reversed” T2 by changing my diet, and I don’t want to go back on medication. That’s not am issue for everyone. I’m never going to judge someone else based on my personal preferences. 🤷♀️
Yes, cheap meats, please! If you can find a way to make the grocery-store-choice-grade top/petite sirloin steaks that are often on sale actually taste delicious, that would be amazing! I'm afraid to even buy them because they look so tough (and yes, I sous vide steaks!) Thankfully, I can finally smoke because I bought a Ninja Woodfire oven which is pretty awesome. Perfect temperature control and great smoke, and it's small enough that I can justify having it and storing it outside. I even use it to bake as a regular oven when it's just too hot to turn on the oven here.
Pro tip to all the "Serious Keto" fans...B 4 going to bed, set your TH-cam channel to Serious Keto, go to the playlists tab & let 'em play.... 🎵 #allnightlong sing 🎶 nod to Lionel Richie 😃 Love me some Colton❤
I didn't know about Splenda having maltodextrin until one of your previous videos. So I thought about testing my sugar after using it in coffee versus using liquid sucralose (a 25% water solution). Wow! So I always appreciate your podcast videos. Also, I'm assuming that other cut of meat can be cooked similarly to a chuck roast? Going to check out your slow-cooker video for that now!
Good morning Steve. Thanks for this video. I look forward to binging on your recipes videos. I’m a terrible cook, and your instructions make it much more likely that I don’t end up with a horrible mess. On another note, I have noticed that many artificial sweeteners seem to use maltodextrin as a bulking agent, not just Sucralose. I’ve ended up trying to use liquid Stevia. If I need something to brown up (caramelize?) I use allulose. But even that is hard to find without maltodextrin. In any case, keep up the good work😊.
I don't mind one bit seeing Colton more once the wee bairn arrives! He is so much fun! I have heard of a company from Germany that has put out a glucose monitor in the form of a pulseoximeter type device. Fr what I read it measures blood glucose levels, blood oxygen levels and also reads Blood pressure levels. I think that would also appeal to many out here seeking to eyeball our health stats. I did have a watch that measured glucose levels in addition to HR, VHR, BP, and O2.... unfortunately while the glucose levels were pretty accurate, the blood pressure readings were not even close, so back it went! When I lived in Colorado ( on the prairie) the summers were pretty hot and my kitchen faces West so while I had an awesome view of Pikes Peak, we baked all afternoon- so, I used to do roasts like the one that you cooked on my Weber Charcoal grill... braised them quite nicely- it is a great tasting cut of meat. Have a great first half of the week... see you next time!☘️
I bought my ring using Shop after your review video. It was only $398. Tax, shipping everything included. Fedex crushed the box, but overall, it was an easy purchase. I decided to use my index finger because 9 is to small, and 10 was to loose on my ring finger. I thought it would be weird, but it wasn't hard at all to get accustomed to.
Hi Steve, Here is a suggestion for a category for recipe videos: Super simple few ingredient recipes I am a little lazy and the simpler the recipe the more likely I will make it. Plus: your video gave me an idea. Would you consider taking some of these horrible ingredients and educating us about what these really are and why we should not be eating them. And, yes I would suscribe to levels at $1 per month. Thanks for another great video!
I think that they might be wanting more videos, not because you're not putting out enough but just because the sheer awesomeness of your videos!
That’s very kind of you to say. 🙂

The smoked shoulder looks good. You could try cutting it up in chunks and making stroganoff using your cream of mushroom keto chow and lots of mushrooms. I usually skip the noodles but sauté some onions and radishes in place of noodles. Thank you for another video
The thing is keto chow itself is also pretty expensive.
Thanks, Steve!
New baby! ❤❤
Arrived at 6:30 this morning
Great video! Thanks Steve! You probably know, my full name is: Steven The Ingredient Policeman. Haha! 😂 But I try to be kind, and you have set a good example. As far as seeing more of Mr. Colton, I can speak for all of us when I say, it will be our pleasure to see him.
Most channels focus on rib eye cuts. Nice to know we can count on you Steve.
Rib-eyes have priced themselves into a once per month luxury for the Serious Keto household.
Great video
I love your idea of doing more videos on different cuts of meat. Always looking for more ways to cook the same o'l meat, 😂
I've gone full carnivore, so your inexpensive meat preparation videos are of interest to me.
I don't know what your source is, but this is directly from the USDA:
Maltodextrin is required to be listed on food labels by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Thanks!
Cheaper, leaner chuck roast, I'm here for it!
More Coulton is always a good thing
Second baby is coming!! I am waiting for the news in august
Yesterday at 6:30am. More news coming.
I’ve been using a Sous vide for cooking tough cuts of meat. That’s been a game changer for me.
I have 2 shoulder roasts going sous vide right now. 😉
🎵 #allnightlong sing 🎶
nod to Lionel Richie 😃 Love me some Colton❤
I didn't know about Splenda having maltodextrin until one of your previous videos. So I thought about testing my sugar after using it in coffee versus using liquid sucralose (a 25% water solution). Wow! So I always appreciate your podcast videos. Also, I'm assuming that other cut of meat can be cooked similarly to a chuck roast? Going to check out your slow-cooker video for that now!
I would consider more Colton a plus 😅
I'm fortunate that in my area buying beef by the 1/2 cow is still affordable
When I lived in Colorado ( on the prairie) the summers were pretty hot and my kitchen faces West so while I had an awesome view of Pikes Peak, we baked all afternoon- so,
I used to do roasts like the one that you cooked on my Weber Charcoal grill... braised them quite nicely- it is a great tasting cut of meat.
Have a great first half of the week... see you next time!☘️
Yes yes. Waiting for the new grandson.
I bought my ring using Shop after your review video. It was only $398. Tax, shipping everything included. Fedex crushed the box, but overall, it was an easy purchase.
I decided to use my index finger because 9 is to small, and 10 was to loose on my ring finger. I thought it would be weird, but it wasn't hard at all to get accustomed to.
good stuff
Hi Steve,
Here is a suggestion for a category for recipe videos: Super simple few ingredient recipes
I am a little lazy and the simpler the recipe the more likely I will make it.
Plus: your video gave me an idea. Would you consider taking some of these horrible ingredients and educating us about what these really are and why we should not be eating them.
And, yes I would suscribe to levels at $1 per month.
Thanks for another great video!
Saw that OTC CGM’s were supposed to be out summer of 2024. We are almost into fall of 2024. I am impatient.
They're running out of days for a "summer" release.
