This is the vocalist and style the song was waiting for. And finally we can say that a 16 year old just did the song how it was meant to be done for decades. Angelina Jordan=Genius
You are so right . Angelina’s interpretation of her voice is hers alone. She has shown 10:53 us this sense Gloomy Sunday at the age of 7. Thank goodness she never had a music teacher telling her her way was taboo.
This came out the weekend of the film release. There are several "tells" in this video which pay homage to Elvis. As others have said, Angelina's stylistic choices are always conscious, and deliberate.
This version showed me what the song is about ❤️ I never understood the Elvis version all though it gave a good vibe to it. One of the things i love about Angelina... She is a great storyteller ❤️
I'm 68 and I know absolutely nothing about music or singing technique, except what I like. My mother was a huge Elvis fan, so I grew up listening to a LOT of his music, and I've heard his version of this song many times, but as @kentovewagenes1141 said, I never really "heard" the words. Sure, I could sing along with it, but the words just never registered. The first time I heard Angelina sing this, it brought tears to my eyes because in truth, I was actually 'hearing it' for the first time. As I said, I know nothing of music or singing, but whatever it was that she was doing, it pleased my ears very much. In my opinion, there is no one that compares to her, now or in the past. She sings with more feeling and emotion than anyone I have ever heard.
Angelina's vocals coaches were Billie, Etta, Dinah and Amy. Her musical ear must be very sharp and her intellect very deep. No one is singing like her. What a blessing to the musical world.
Elvis’ version is incredible and he is an amazing entertainer. Her darker, the arrangement and her melancholy seems to fit sthe story of toxic and hopeless love better. I can listen to Angelina’s version again and again and again. Rob Christie on the piano is super as well. It’s so beautiful!
The baby and very little girl are Angelina's cousins - the preteen girl is Angelina's sister Juliette and the Piano Player is Rob Christie Director of the Republic Records Los Angeles Studio which is the record label that Angelina has been signed with since she was 14 years old.
🎉🎉 I/we have loved watching you react to our littlest angel, Angelina Jordan Astar. One really nice thing about following such a wonderful singer/songwriter is that she’s been doing live onstage performances since she was 7. So….now it’s time to spin back the clock and watch how she first took the world stage on Norway’s Got Talent (NGT). I highly, highly encourage you to watch the additional content provided on NGT 1 and NGT 4 (English subtitles or CC). Any time we get to hear little AJ talking about herself and her experiences, it gives us that warm feeling inside. We know she was 7 years old when she began this journey and a new 8 when she won it. I’ve watched reactions to these videos so often that I’ve taken to estimating her age by the growth of her teeth. By this approach, when she sings Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” before the judge’s elimination panel, we can still see that permanent tooth striving to fill in the gap. Based on this physiological feature, it had to be days since her NGT 1 audition, so I believe she was still 7 at the time. By NGT 3, both teeth are side by side. NGT 1 was her arrangement of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Love You.” Angelina was the last to audition, and the judges had no idea who she was or what she could do. What they saw was a barefooted little girl walk onto the stage; hair all mussy (Amy Winehouse?) and snaggletoothed. If you haven’t heard Billie sing this one, you should take a side journey to watch it. You will hear some of the same strains that Angelina puts into it. What you won’t hear are the exact same lyrics. This song originally comes from Hungary and it’s known as the Hungarian Suicide Song, as a bereft lover contemplates joining their love in death. But 7 year old Angelina wouldn’t be thwarted by the song, so she arranged the lyrics to tell a story of a sad Sunday. I listened to Holiday's performance, and find it amazing that I sometimes hear Billie's voice and phrasing, albeit from a bushy haired, snaggletoothed, barefooted little 7 year-old. NGT 2 was of her singing Billie Holiday’s version of "I'm a Fool to Want You" before a judge's elimination panel. She sang this completely a cappella; absolutely precious. NGT 3 was the first televised live performances of show, in which the Norwegian audience could begin casting votes for the winner. She sang Nancy Sinatra's version of "Bang, Bang". NGT 4 is the final performance, with Angelina singing "Summertime" (Gershwin). NGT 4 has 4 segments in the video. It begins with a spotlight on Angelina. We get to hear Angelina talking about her experiences on NGT. She’s so small that her feet stick out straight when sitting on the chair. This segment transitions into her amazing singing "Summertime". Her talent has grown almost exponentially, even over the brief period of several months. Immediately after she sings, the third segment begins. Here, we get to listen to the judges speaking to Angelina about how she's impacted each of them. I recommend listening to this portion as well, as their comments are almost prescient. Every time I watch her sing over the years, these comments come back again and again. The final segment is of her being named the winner, as they announce the three top scoring performer(s). Some reactors cut it off at this point, while others retain it. Just don’t miss the first three parts. Of Angelina’s 4 performances, be sure to use the links provided for NGT 1 and NGT 4. To listen to this without the video is so captivating! A lot of time her videos throw me off. So, I’ll close my eyes and allow myself to be captured and submit to her world.
In every cover that Angelina's done she's made it her own. She also does her own arrangements and has done so since she was quite young. She may have started around the age of 6. That was the first time Angelina had performed in the studio singing I Who Have Nothing. Please react to that and then when she was 9 singing I Put A Spell On You. She has quite a few when she was younger but should you like to hear something recent Angelina just released hrt first EP with 6 of her original songs. They are all quite impressive. You could start with Good In Goodbyes then Diamond. Thanyou for your reaction. I could tell you're impressed with her singing. Her new songs have wonderful lyrics. She puts so much feelings into her performances. You can watch her hand gestures, her expressions. She gives you goosebumps. Enjoy your journey with Angelina. Have a wonderful evening. Sending love from NC.
Her new EP of origionals. Each track is a different mix of Soul R&B, Pop, Blues, jazz. She keeps her vocal character consistent for the EP a sultry rich tone with plenty of fry and vibrato. In some of her backing vocals we hear her falsetto and even in one song a tiny garnish of lyrical Rap. The first song on the EP is LOVE DONT LET ME GO which was put out before the rest, but I prefer NOW IM THE FOOL. Of all the tracks it is the Jazziest, and has a black and white performance mv.
Absolutely stunning rendition from our barefoot Viking, the first two little girls in the video are Angelina’s cousins her Managers children, the eldest girl is Angelina’s sister Juliette, production input from Angelina’s Grandma Mery Zamani who is a talented Iranian artist and poet, the pianist is Two times Grammy Award winner Rob Christie the musical Director of Republic Records who Angelina signed with at 14 years old, Angelina is paying tribute to Elvis with her black outfit and her red guitar 🎸 and Pricilla Presley hair style, Cover of a Cover as the original artist Mark James who wrote and recorded Suspicious Minds didn’t achieve with his original, then Elvis Covered the song and it was a hit, great reaction thanks 🙏
@@christophersmith2793 Not necessarily obvious to everyone, especially foreigners with a limited ability understanding English. As a matter of fact, when this video came out, many were referring to Athena and Erise as “nieces.” Michael’s relationship to the children wasn’t so obvious, apparently. That’s why I posted my “clarification”, that’s all. 😕
Thank you for returning to Angelina. It's been a long times since your previous reaction to Angelina, but I am delighted that you are back, as your considered reactions are excellent. You probably already know that the song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).
The two youngest girs are the daughters of her Uncle Mike who is her manager. The older girl is her younger sister, Julietta. The piano player is two time Grammy winner, Rob Christie, who is a Studio Director for Republic Record where Angelina signed as a Priority Artist. The song is about the pain a trustworthy person feels when they are not trusted by someone they care about deeply. Angelina's ability to make you 'feel' is what sets her apart from other great singers who dazzle with vocal acrobatics. I appreciate you analysis. Thank you.
After years of listening our beautiful Angelina and reading countless comments from reactors and Angels just realised that she is “THE CHOSEN ONE “ 👸👼 to bring love, peace and happiness to this planet. We are so blessed to be living in this time and we are privileged to listen the most beautiful voice that ever existed, IMHO. ❤❤
Hello Dr. 👋 welcome back. Angelina was 16 here. I agree with you. Plus as you said to take an iconic song and make it new, well it's amazing. But Angelina has done that alot. Her musicality is off the charts since being even younger than this. She just put out her EP of 6 songs that she wrote, and all are amazing and different. The EP flows very nicely especially if you listen to the story in order, from her talking to love to her coming into her confidence ❤. We can't wait for you to buy download and react and analysis each song on her new EP ❤. (PS Dr, would you please react to Laura Bretan's cover of "Adagio".!she's not well known outside of her musical circle but her voice and character are amazing ❤). God bless you Dr. Marisan and your family too 🙏 ✝️❤ 🙂👍.
Thank you Dr.Marisan for your heartfelt and wonderful comments on Angelina's original take of this iconic Elvis song ! She managed to capture your attention from the first powerful note to the last soft finish ! This is Angelina at her best telling the story as it should be told through the interpretation of the lyrics ! So different from the original but staying true to the time with her Priscilla Presley hairdo, Elvis's guitar and the black leather jumpsuit ! I loved the video because it was a nostalgic, artistic visual masterpiece ! Simple piano with Angelina strumming the chords on guitar ! AJ was only 16 and displays such mature and wonderful phrasing throughout ! Her jazz background always shines through ! Good to have you back with Angelina ! You are truly a wonderful supporter of our barefoot angel ! Her new EP "Old Enough" has just been released with six fantastic tracks ! Two have video and four just audio ! Angelina in this EP demonstrates her ability to transcend into the Pop realm while maintaining her unique sound ! Keep posting it is so much appreciated ! 👍🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️
Angelina Jordan is a remarkable vocal artist that possesses a rare talent: she has a photographic memory for sound. This means that she can recall and reproduce any sound she hears with perfect accuracy and pitch. She applies this skill to her musical performances, especially when she covers songs by other vocal artists. She does not merely imitate them, but rather uses their voices as inspiration and reference points for her own unique interpretations. She can capture the essence and emotion of any song, while adding her own flair and style to it. There is a difference between a good singer and a great singer. A good singer can capture the moment, but a great singer can transform the moment into ART. ART is not just a representation of reality, but an expression of vision. ART should always transcend the ordinary, and Angelina Jordan accomplishes this in every performance.
That was a great analysis of this vocal Masterpiece by Angelina. You are one of the few vocal coaches over the years, that have talked about her artistic use of her breath to express emotion. That's why her producers always leave it in the final version.
Her breathing is always audible and always used to convey emotions. I’m not sure if anyone else does this. I find it very creative and pleasing. Also her diction is intentionally not precise but is used to express emotion in her own way. Often she doesn’t express all the consonants in a word. When she sings “don’t let a good thing die…” there is a barely audible word “let’s” right before “don’t” (8:21). She has so many tools at her complete command to express the full emotion of every song she sings.
Very nice reaction! Thanks! Not many singers are able to sing on an accompinament, with just simple chords on the 1 and 3 of a bar with nothing else, (most of the time) without disrupting the storyline. The way she uses 'comma's' and holds your attention is extraordinary! Indeed it is a complete different song compared to the original too! Do I love her singing and good taste!
Dr. Marisan, thank you so much for your wonderful reaction to the incredible Angelina Jordan. Your explanation of her breathiness was done in a very professional and beautiful way. Doctor, everything Angelina does is intentional and what is also remarkable every word has a message attached to it and the result is we are in her world and absorbing everything she is singing. As you must know she is responsible for rearranging the music and lyrics to all the classics she does covers on and as you appropriately stated she makes her versions a new song but always in a very subtle way always pays homage to the original song and the artist. The set for the video had Elvis' likeness all over it including the red suit worn by the piano player (who btw is Rob Christie a several times Grammy Award winner) much like the ones his band wore. What is always so striking to me when I listen to a pro such as yourself speak about what she is doing, it is impossible to believe you are talking about someone so young. I mean, she was doing things at 7 and 8 years old which made you think of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. What !? She is amazing, absolutely amazing.
BEAUTIFUL reaction, Mrs Corsino ♥ I really enjoyed your points of view. And coming from a singer like yourself, they really carry a lot of importance. Luckily, you and I look at her singing and her techniques very much the same way, which makes me a little proud 😄 Angelina was 16 years old here. On July 21st this year, she released her 6 song EP called "Old Enough", which really showcases her incredible diversity and her extremely impressive pen game. After ten years of constantly listening to her, I really have to say that the EP caught me by surprise, despite me knowing that she would show us something different. And that she did! I would love for you to react to those, at least "Good In Goodbyes" which is my personal favorite. That being said, they are all absolute masterpieces. Have a great rest of the week and take care 🙂 Much love and respect from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
The first little girl is a team member s daughter the second is AJs cousin the third is AJs sister don't know what the symbolism is . But the leather suit is a hint to Elvis as is the guitar and the hair Lisa Marie .
I’ve been an Elvis fan since the mid 50’s and will continue to be as long as I live. I think Angelina’s interpretation is a better fit with the lyrics on this one. Those scoops and swoops are a bit of her Billie Holiday influence.
Good reaction and observations! Thank you! As you learn more and more about Angelina, you will also come to the definite and accurate conclusion that Angelina does nothing haphazardly in her singing style and her musical choices. It is ALL intentional, and has been literally since she was eight years old. She is, in every sense, a prodigy and also an empath who is able to understand, diffuse, and transmit proper emotions in a tasteful way into our hearts from the adult songs she has chosen over the years. She's a phenomenon!
Wonderful reaction! Many people and reactors have commented that they never really heard or understood the lyrics to a song until listening to Angelina sing it. She is a masterful storyteller. It would be awesome if you reacted to the 6 original songs from her new EP "Old Enough", they are all amazing!
Her Grandma, Mery Zamani, helped produced this. She used the same store (Melrose Gallery in L.A.) she used for her My Funny Valentine and I Have Nothing videos. Her sister Juliette was the older girl and the 2 younger girls are her Uncle Mike's kids. 2- time Grammy winner Rob Christie is on piano once again. He is also the music director of Republic Records, the music company she is signed with. The beehive hairstyle was to honor Priscilla Presley and the time period she met Elvis. The black suit and red guitar was a classic look for Elvis from his comeback concert. What a performance and homage to The King!
Great reaction to one of Angelina's (16 yo) all time best performances. She has released a new EP (fittingly titled "Old Enough") of songs that are all originals. Six songs and all are Fantastic! Here's one ("Now I'm the Fool") that is accompanied with a video: th-cam.com/video/8BXCVY_-RmU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CMAubXnfsdXoBQd0 At 17 she is world class. Just a matter of time before she rises to Superstar status. I love your reactions, and hope you will react to more of Angelina's performances. 😊
🎉🎉 Vocal Development 🎉🎉 For a real treat, I recommend reacting to her second Norway's Got Talent performance of "I'm a Fool to Want You" (link listed in comment below) and then at 11 years old. At 11, she performed this song as part of her album, "It's Magic," and magic it most definately is. The video was shot by her biggest fan and mentor, Grandma Mery Zamani (appears at the end). th-cam.com/video/SGx0djXTXQk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=q2NlhH55ljcl5bub 🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Angelina’s sister Juliet sitting there, she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day. Elvis' version is great, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own. When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 83 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song. The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers. The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister. If you haven’t already reacted to her latest studio version of Whitney Houston's version you should - here’s the link - th-cam.com/video/iX0g99jN26U/w-d-xo.html 🙂
In the beginning credits is shows that Mary Zamani is the executive producer. Mery is Angelina’s grand mother. The smallest girls are Angelina’s cousins. The middle school aged girl is Angelina’s sister Juliette.
Hello!! Para mí su voz es como un cálido terciopelo negro. Su forma de transmitir, llega hasta los huesos, su vibrato unido a su raspy voice es para mí único en el mundo. Saludos desde Argentina!!🤗🧉🇦🇷
Suspicious Minds has always been one of my favorite Elvis Presley standards, but Angelina Jordan's version has become my definitive performance of it. The slow and detailed way she peels away each layer of the lyric in her soulful style is just masterful. That first phrase, though! Great analysis, Dr Marisan! Angelina recently released a new EP with some great original songs. I recommend Good In Goodbyes from that EP. Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/zyIJguL1ZH8/w-d-xo.html
Angelina moved this from her cover channel to to her official channel. It’s wonderful that she wash giving the rights to her beautiful arrangement. Your face show such joy while you were listening to this. Would you consider reacting to her two performances at the Alan Walker concert. m.th-cam.com/video/s5YLpTh4l9o/w-d-xo.html
Always great to see you back with Angelina Dr. Marisan....such a joy to listen to your analysis and critique of exquisitely talent vocalists like Angelina. Appreciate you. Her new EP release of 6 new originals at age 17 are quite exquisite as well....hope you get a chance to view them at some point. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
In Angelina's newest music, in particular, from the Old Enough EP, you can the influence of that jazz greats from yesteryear and some more modern greats such as Adele and Amy Winehouse. I'm not going to say she is better than any particular legendary singer but she is certainly doing more with her voice than any of these other artists thought to do. Another thing is that each song Angelina sings is sung very differently depending upon what she is trying to convey. She isn't the only singer to do this, but the vast majority sound pretty much the same on every track.
Fabulous reaction and analysis!! I subscribed. Angelina took yet another classic song and provided her interpretation of the story. She always makes me feel I am part of the story. In my opinion, Angelina's version fits the lyrics better than any other. She inspired me to write a story about her. Once upon a time, in the land of the Norse gods, was born a girl blessed with the gift of song. Properly given the name, Angelina Jordan Astar, she would listen to music every available moment, embracing the story each song told. Angelina was able to hear every note and vocal technique used in a song, then create her own version. Lovingly placing her dolls on the couch, to be her audience, she would perform concerts, honing her craft. The emotions Angelina felt from each song were deep and moving. She sang in order to have the listener feel and understand the emotions she felt. At age 6, Angelina befriended a shoeless orphan girl about her age, who desired to become a doctor but confided in Angelina it would never happen since she had siblings who needed her to simply survive. Angelina told the orphan to never give up hope and to always pursue her dreams. Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the orphan girl, saying the shoes no longer fit her. Sometimes a little white lie is needed. The orphan girl, so thankful for the gift, asked Angelina what she desired to be in life. Angelina said she wanted to sing for the entire world. The orphan girl, who Angelina gave the name Princess, said she would pray every day for her dream to come true. Angelina, told her, when on stage, I will always perform barefoot, to remind me of you and all the children like you who can't afford shoes or clothes. Angelina began her on stage career at age 7 performing for her home country and went on to sing on big stages at age 13 and 17, for audiences numbering in the millions each time. With each performance she gained new fans, who Angelina calls her angels. One would think after performing for such large crowds, she would become well known among the billions around the world, but that was not the case. The world had become a very busy place, with countless ways of learning about new artists. Her angels were inspired to spread the love they felt by listening to her music and knowing her story, and did the best they could to introduce their favorite musical artist to those who had never heard of her. Many of her angels were perplexed why the recording company who signed her, was not promoting her. The reason is unknown but apparently part of this magical tale. We recently learned Republic Records built a studio for Angelina to create her art. Angelina will be promoted when the stars are properly aligned and not before. Until that time, each angel should continue to spread the love they feel from Angelina's music and introduce new people to her.
Thank you for this! I love the fact that you point out to us what you think is special whith Angelinas performance. It makes me notice things i’ve not noticed before, and help me understand what makes me love this singer so much.
My thoughts on this, My thoughts on this, Power & Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. I think that makes them cousins not nieces. Full Black Leather Bodysuit, the guitar from his concert in 68 and the hair a homage to Priscilla Presley. Yeah! She can bring tears to your eyes. I base my interpretation on my knowledge of Angelina's journey from an 18 month old little girl singing a "classic" of music history 'I Will Always Love You' . She has been listening to these classics on repeat on YOUTube since then under the guidance and inspiration of her Grandmother Mery Zamani. She has been performing these classics since her first time in studio at 6 yrs old.. She has continued this journey through her 1st introduction to the world with her "Classic'" 'Gloomy Sunday’ and following with her many performances at her many Jazz Festivals, TV performances, Concerts, and charity events, studio recordings and practice sessions at home accompanied or not. The location in the Antique store represents these classics (like the furniture) of another era. To me she portrays wonder at all these classics surrounding her. as she has travelled this road. Her tribute to Elvis is at her present age, today, each stage represented by her cousins and sister and ending with Angelina herself on the couch still admiring all this history surrounding her. The beautiful rendition of the song, and other tributes are in the leather outfit, Guitar and hair a tribute to Priscilla. 🔥🔥🔥♥👣
Love your responses. She has a a new EP of 6 songs that just came out. It is quite a story Arc from song to song, think you would enjoy whether you react to them on air or not.
Loved your little pop up of Elvis waving…. You appreciate the details and Angelina is all about details. Thank you for your analysis. There are so many Angelina songs for you to react to. This is a deep well you have entered. You need to go to her younger days to appreciate her immense talent. How about her singing I Who Have Nothing at age 7, a first take in her first studio session.
My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.
Really nice reaction, you should check out some of the songs she just released from her new EP. 6 original songs and everyone of them is a masterpiece to me. Looking forward to more reactions of Angelina. ❤
I know you reacted to a few Angelina songs a while ago, and you were impressed. This is what Angelina does frequently- take an iconic song, slow it down, and give you a new way to love that song as you now understand every word of the lyrics. The music backing her is minimal, but always tasteful. We’re here for Angelina’s voice, and it can be mesmerizing as you heard today. Many times, you will prefer Angelina’s version to the original, but she never disappoints. If you want to hear a full complement of Angelina’s vocal dynamics, textures, and interpretation, try her cover, live, of Adele’s Easy on Me. Adele is a great songwriter and singer, but she does not have the vocal tools Angelina can so effortlessly bring to this beautiful song. I don’t know any singer who can match those tools. Here’s the link: th-cam.com/video/Mpw5Q76hWWE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WHxG_m2d_9wOG2k4
When you mention breath, that is one of the elements she learned from the most improvisational singer of all time, her musical mentor Billie Holiday. To find one song that contains the unique facets of Billie's singing, you have to go to a rehearsal she did in a studio sound booth for 'I'm A Fool To Want You'. She has also stated in an interview that if not for Billie Holiday, there would not not be Angelina Jordan today. She has heard all the great singers but Billie stands alone at the top of her musical pedestal. Billie was born to a 13 year old prostitute and was 'self taught' but still made her way to the nightclubs of Harlem where she was crowned 'Queen Of Jazz'.

You noted her breathing being quite audible at times and I have found her sharp intake of breath on many songs to be quite intriguing as I think she means to do it and makes it sound musical. I have come to like the sound as it punctuates or highlights the lyrics. Hope that made sense. Very nice reaction
What a treat to have this breakdown from a master singer of your caliber! Thanks a lot! The differences between classical singing and pop singing are interesting. If I could sing I'd take your singing lessons, but unfortunately I can't sing.
Just discovered your channel and I love your presentation style, quiet, thoughtful and knowledgeable. That you have an interest in singers like Angelina (not that there are many like her) is a wonderful bonus.
Hi Dr. ! I've just discovered your channel (happily!)... Thank you for your wonderful work and for conveying the love for music 🎵 I beg you to have an ear for Blackbriar's latest song: 'Cicada (Official Music Video)'. Zora's voice is so UNIQUE and talented. (Zora is the lead singer from this outstanding symphonic metal band from the Netherlands) ...And they've also released 'Cicada (Isolated Vocals)' for in-depth analysis "in premium mode" 😉! (isn't it a golden opportunity?♥️). It would be great and different from the other reactors to mix the two versions in one reaction video (for instance). I'm pretty sure you won't regret ☺️
Not convinced? So... What if I was explaining that Blackbriar is an outstanding symphonic metal band from The Netherlands. They have beautiful and interesting stories described in their songs. They use beautiful lyrics for telling those stories. Their vocalist (and co-founder, and lyricist, and composer of the main melodies, and some kind of soul of the band) Zora, really has a unique, emotional and talented voice, infallible vocal techniques with incredible vocal power that perfectly fit their sensitive and excellent orchestration with dozens of musical details in each song. Also, the visuals of their music videos are always breathtaking with rich cinematography and beautiful aesthetics. Moreover, Zora's acting in their music videos is out of this world and having you with just one glance. As a result, the emotion that overwhelms us is for sure exactly what they wanted to share with us. For me, Zora is an hypersensitive genius with a voice from another galaxy, brighter and more beautiful. If I mention their total commitment and attention to details and Zora's gift for finding the beauty hidden in the dark corners of humanity and revealing it to us, as well as the historical consistency of all their videos and lyrics, do I convince you? ☺️ Or the fact that out of 33 tracks, 30 of them are my favourites, absolute masterpieces (it's crazy!)? Yes, OK, I'm a fan, but still: objectively speaking... this band is incredible!
Great reaction, it’s always fun to see someone get excited. Angelina is exceptional, and will get better if it’s possible. If you’d like to hear another fantastic young woman, her name is Daneliya (Da-nel-ee-ah). She was also on AGT she has a 1,5 million subscribers on her channel and she will steal your heart as easily as she steals songs. I’ll subscribe to hear your thoughts.
Hopefully Republic will do so even yet. Maybe they are waiting for Angelina to become more widely known through the release of her LP and her world touring concerts. Miley Cyrus has been well-known for quite some time, ever since she was "Hannah Montana." So, it's much easier for her to release a single and make money on it immediately, recoup production costs, and yield a profit. I believe that Republic, like a chess master who patiently takes his time, is moving its pieces on the board in very deliberate and ingenious ways. I don't think Republic would have provided a 17-year old girl her own production room if they were not confident that something BIG is coming soon. And I know you and I both are on board for that!
---- If you listen to the lyrics and compare the order they are sung to the order sung by Elvis you see that Angelina also changed the order that the lyrics were sung plus removed lyrics in addition to slowing the song down. This effectively created a new song with the same melody ---- Angelina starts out with the Bridge ("Oh, let our love survive"...) and then goes into Verse 1 ("We're caught in a trap"...) followed by the Chorus ("We can't go on together"...) followed by Verse 2 ("If and old friend I know"...) followed by the Chorus ("We can't go on together"...) followed by the Bridge ("Oh, let our love survive"...) ---- Elvis starts out with "We're caught in a trap" followed by "We can't go on together" followed by "So if an old friend I know" followed by "We can't go on together" followed by "Oh, let our love survive" followed by "We're caught in a trap" followed by repeating "Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap?" "I can't walk out" "Because I love you too much, baby" six times and ending the song with "Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap?" ---- You could react to more of Angelina's more recent performances such as: - You Say (as 15-year old, Angelina exquisitely covers Lauren Daigle’s hit song (over 6 million units sold) that won a Grammy Award and was lead song on her 2018 album Look Up Child: th-cam.com/video/9K8JOd4VIpk/w-d-xo.html) - My Funny Valentine (as 16-year old, music video shot in same LA antique store and directed by Angelina. This is the vocalist and style the song was waiting for. And finally we can say that a 16 year old just did the song how it was meant to be done for decades. Angelina Jordan=Genius
"Completely unexpected, but in a Good Way." PERFECT.
If Angelina is doing something... it's intentional !!!!
You are so right . Angelina’s interpretation of her voice is hers alone. She has shown 10:53 us this sense Gloomy Sunday at the age of 7. Thank goodness she never had a music teacher telling her her way was taboo.
Beat me too it lol
You have to know by now Nothing is Unintentional when Angelina covers a song. These changes were meant and very well done.
Angelina's vocals coaches were Billie, Etta, Dinah and Amy. Her musical ear must be very sharp and her intellect very deep. No one is singing like her. What a blessing to the musical world.
Intellect very deep indeed,….
I truly have never heard a better singer.
These videos contain the per- and post-content I spoke of above.

Thank you! I appreciate all the information and links provided. 😊
Exactly Anita, well said & my fav is the same, Now I'm the Fool, with a Carlos Santana vibe.
@@keithserafy yes😊
Yes please check out her new EP
Just a clarification, if you haven’t figured it out. Her “manager” is her uncle Mike. 😬😉
If the little girls are Angelina’s cousins it’s obvious her manager is her uncle?????
@@christophersmith2793 Not necessarily obvious to everyone, especially foreigners with a limited ability understanding English. As a matter of fact, when this video came out, many were referring to Athena and Erise as “nieces.” Michael’s relationship to the children wasn’t so obvious, apparently. That’s why I posted my “clarification”, that’s all. 😕
@@peterhormell1511 I thought Michael's second born daughter was Aurora?
@@alberttenfoot Michael second daughter name is Aries. I follow Juliette on Social Media and is confirmed that her name is Aries.
He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat".
She uses her breaths as if they were notes!
Thank you 🙂
GREETINGS EARTH WOMAN: I feel the song finally found its way to the artist for whom it was written.
I love Angelina’s rendition of this song and your analysis of what she is doing! tyvm
Enjoyed your reaction to my favorite artists
Epic Performance, God Bless!
My god how beautiful you are ♥️
Beautiful ❤❤
Thanks for the reaction to our angel Angelina..she’s simply the best..❤
+1 for Good In Goodbyes - all Poolhallshark has said is completely true, I can subscribe to that from Bavaria with love!

I just find this version absolutely stunning , she is so amazing it's hard to comprehend. Lovely reaction.
The two greatest in my lifetime: Elvis and AJ !!!
Great reaction and great performance! 👍
Thank you!! ❤
Thank you for your time and the reaction. It was informative and pleasant. Please do ALL of Angelina's songs. Well..... yeah. All of them. 👍🙏
The first little girl is a team member s daughter the second is AJs cousin the third is AJs sister don't know what the symbolism is . But the leather suit is a hint to Elvis as is the guitar and the hair Lisa Marie .
The 1st little girl is also a cousin (Athena), both of the younger girls are uncle Mike's daughters.
Thank you ❤
This is a complete new song. ❤

For a real treat, I recommend reacting to her second Norway's Got Talent performance of "I'm a Fool to Want You" (link listed in comment below) and then at 11 years old. At 11, she performed this song as part of her album, "It's Magic," and magic it most definately is. The video was shot by her biggest fan and mentor, Grandma Mery Zamani (appears at the end).

You might want to check out Rob Christie, the piano player. He is one of the most powerful people in the music industry and is a 2 time Grammy winner.
So beautiful! And awesome reaction!❤
If you haven’t already reacted to her latest studio version of Whitney Houston's version you should - here’s the link - th-cam.com/video/iX0g99jN26U/w-d-xo.html

Wow your reviews are So Insightful, Angelina is a gift to all of us as are you!!!!😃

In the beginning credits is shows that Mary Zamani is the executive producer. Mery is Angelina’s grand mother. The smallest girls are Angelina’s cousins. The middle school aged girl is Angelina’s sister Juliette.
Hello!! Para mí su voz es como un cálido terciopelo negro. Su forma de transmitir, llega hasta los huesos, su vibrato unido a su raspy voice es para mí único en el mundo.
Saludos desde Argentina!!🤗🧉🇦🇷
👍👍😍😍👍👍

"Suspicion always haunts the guilty mind." - William [ Ms. Angelina "Magical Vocalist" Jordan ] Shakespeare "Thank - U | Dr. Marisan | Very Nice!"
Amazing - And thank you!
So lovely to see you back reacting

Excellent analysis of this outstanding version by Angelina J. You are so beautiful, Dr. Marisan!
"Nostalgic mood" because the song is very nostalgic and sad ... I've never understand why Elvis sang it like a speedy/happy song ...
Very generous comments & top notch review & reaction. She does kill it. Every. Single. Time.
Thank you for this! I love the fact that you point out to us what you think is special whith Angelinas performance. It makes me notice things i’ve not noticed before, and help me understand what makes me love this singer so much.
Don't forget, she does all of her own arrangements.
Please add this reaction to your Angelina playlist.
My thoughts on this,
My thoughts on this,
Power & Pure Velvet Perfection!
I would recommend doing Angelina reactions to "Stay", "California Dreamin'" and "All I Ask".
Thank you so much!
"She is!"
Really nice reaction, you should check out some of the songs she just released from her new EP. 6 original songs and everyone of them is a masterpiece to me. Looking forward to more reactions of Angelina. ❤
Great to have you back Doc 👍😘
Thank you kindly 🙏
When you mention breath, that is one of the elements she learned from the most
improvisational singer of all time, her musical mentor Billie Holiday. To find one
song that contains the unique facets of Billie's singing, you have to go to a rehearsal
she did in a studio sound booth for 'I'm A Fool To Want You'. She has also stated
in an interview that if not for Billie Holiday, there would not not be Angelina Jordan
today. She has heard all the great singers but Billie stands alone at the top of her
musical pedestal. Billie was born to a 13 year old prostitute and was 'self taught' but
still made her way to the nightclubs of Harlem where she was crowned 'Queen Of Jazz'.
Great voice
Any of Angelina’s original songs are well worth a listen. (The last 6 are from her EP released this year.)

Wonderful analysis, as always! Please react to some songs off of Angelina's new EP. They are on her official channel.
🥰
Thankyou Dr Marisan, a highly informative analysis.
You noted her breathing being quite audible at times and I have found her sharp intake of breath on many songs to be quite intriguing as I think she means to do it and makes it sound musical. I have come to like the sound as it punctuates or highlights the lyrics. Hope that made sense. Very nice reaction
She uses her breaths as if they were notes! A perfect example of your referencing its use as punctuation is the end of If I Were A Boy.
What a treat to have this breakdown from a master singer of your caliber! Thanks a lot! The differences between classical singing and pop singing are interesting.
If I could sing I'd take your singing lessons, but unfortunately I can't sing.
My pleasure! Thank you for your words!
Just discovered your channel and I love your presentation style, quiet, thoughtful and knowledgeable. That you have an interest in singers like Angelina (not that there are many like her) is a wonderful bonus.
Thank you 🙏 Welcome aboard!
yes please react to: Million MIles Studio Version, Bohemian Rhapsody; Easy on Me; Yellow Brick Road; All I Ask- your choice!
😇😇😇🥰🥰🥰
Hi Dr. ! I've just discovered your channel (happily!)... Thank you for your wonderful work and for conveying the love for music 🎵
I beg you to have an ear for Blackbriar's latest song: 'Cicada (Official Music Video)'.
😎💙👍
NEW: Angelina Jordan in Christmas mood th-cam.com/users/shortsxe_Qmiiq6lU
Great reaction, it’s always fun to see someone get excited. Angelina is exceptional, and will get better if it’s possible.
If you’d like to hear another fantastic young woman, her name is Daneliya (Da-nel-ee-ah). She was also on AGT she has a 1,5 million subscribers on her channel and she will steal your heart as easily as she steals songs. I’ll subscribe to hear your thoughts.
👏
More AJ please ❤❤❤
Its not Elvis song, elvis made a cover of Mark James song…
Good comments
I've missed seeing you here on TH-cam!
Why did Republic Records never put this out as a single? Miley Cyrus does it all the time.
This effectively created a new song with the same melody
---- Angelina starts out with the Bridge ("Oh, let our love survive"...) and then goes into Verse 1 ("We're caught in a trap"...) followed by the Chorus ("We can't go on together"...) followed by Verse 2 ("If and old friend I know"...) followed by the Chorus ("We can't go on together"...) followed by the Bridge ("Oh, let our love survive"...)
---- Elvis starts out with "We're caught in a trap" followed by "We can't go on together" followed by "So if an old friend I know" followed by "We can't go on together" followed by "Oh, let our love survive" followed by "We're caught in a trap" followed by repeating
"Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap?"
"I can't walk out"
"Because I love you too much, baby"
six times and ending the song with "Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap?"
---- You could react to more of Angelina's more recent performances such as:
- You Say (as 15-year old, Angelina exquisitely covers Lauren Daigle’s hit song (over 6 million units sold) that won a Grammy Award and was lead song on her 2018 album Look Up Child: th-cam.com/video/9K8JOd4VIpk/w-d-xo.html)
- My Funny Valentine (as 16-year old, music video shot in same LA antique store and directed by Angelina. Her skills are way beyond her age. Angelina sings Frank Sinatra lyrical version in sultry, jazz style: th-cam.com/video/ETGLbsGDAI0/w-d-xo.html)
- I Have Nothing (as 16-year old, Angelina sings in music video shot in black & white in same LA antique store this Whitney Houston hit song from 1992 movie The Bodyguard: th-cam.com/video/iX0g99jN26U/w-d-xo.html)
- Valerie (as 17-year old, sung Amy Winehouse’s 2007 hit song live on Germany’s Next Top Model popular TV show by Heidi Klum: th-cam.com/video/JahKZ6aYFbI/w-d-xo.html)
- Love Don’t Let Me Go (co-wrote as 17-year old, music video shot in black and white interspersing Angelina singing in studio with her driving 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster with grandmother Mery Zamani in car: th-cam.com/video/1U6WY_z8Vu8/w-d-xo.html)
