« I don’t believe that a language will limit an emotion.
There is no specific language to say something that comes from the heart. You can say something from the heart in indian, japanese, english, italian, … it doesn’t matter as long as it is sincere.
I truly believe specific feelings, true feelings, have no limitations or no barriers when it comes to honesty"
    Lara Fabian

Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar.
The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her.
It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti). Even Metallica covered it
But for many, Lara's version from the concert From Lara With Love 2000 th-cam.com/video/BP2KnLemT78/w-d-xo.html is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla.
I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it.
For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Italian is her first native language. Her husband is also sicilian. She also has been living there for the past few months since the end of 2022.

Thanks to @ericsicard910 for his synopsis of the classic piece.........I have nothing to add, except I believe Lara's Italian heritage ( as she noted in the opening ), allows her to portray the emotional context of the story fully ........."Te voglio bene assai = I love you very much, you know"

American record producers tried to turn her into another “Pop Tart” decades ago, it is an absolute blessing that she turned them down. It would have been the world’s loss. A true one of a kind, that produces art with every one of her performances.

🇨🇦 Ten years studying at the Brussels Conservatory to become a Lyric Soprano, and still returns there almost every year ! She also studied 'breath control' as anyone who listens to her songs can witness !
Lara starts her Master Class by always singing each syllable in every word, and each word in every lyric clearly and completely (until the end), no matter which language she is singing in ! Lara arranges and produces most of her own performances, which is probably why this song was just Lara, and a Piano ! 🇨🇦

This song about an older man saying goodbye to his beloved wife is usually sung by older men, normally operatic tenors, and as sung by Lara the emotion intended by the composer is more clearly and artistically shown. Lara has become my favorite singer - not by just one great performance but by all her performances which compound upon each to exhibit just how marvelous she is both as a singer but as an artist who paints a story with her powerful yet warm voice and emotions which each and every audience member feels. She is the Ultimate Artist

Lara Fabian always seems to be singing just to me and I think everyone in the audience feels the same way -- she is the best story teller I've ever witnessed - she not only allows but invites all to join her in her journey into a story. She doesn't just sing a song, but rather she LIVES a story.....................and that voice, that power, that resonance ! 👉 Many classical singers (most men) have sung this song: Luciano Pavarotti, Mario Adorf, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Potts etc. The song tells of the pain and longings of a man who is about to die while looking into the eyes of a young woman whom he loves very much.
    * Enrico Caruso (*1873 in Naples, † 1921 ibid) was an Italian opera singer. He is considered the most famous lyrical tenor of the early 20th century and one of the most important singers in the world of opera.
Caruso was famous for his baritone-like timbre and stage presence. In a performance of La Bohème he sang an aria for the suddenly voiceless bass so convincingly that no one in the audience noticed.
Caruso established a new, exemplary style of singing in which the focus was not on beautiful performance but on becoming one with the character being portrayed.
Caruso is the name everyone knows and to which every opera singer is compared. Those who have seen him describe the onset of his voice with the warm power of an organ.
Caruso still holds the record of 863 appearances on the Metropolitan Opera stage.
And it was Caruso who initiated the triumph of the record with his work.
Caruso's generosity was legendary. For example, during his most successful years at the Metropolitan Opera, he gave almost all employees Christmas presents. His sense of humor was also famous. Again and again he joked with his stage colleagues, for example sewing up a sleeve of a coat that a colleague in La Bohème had to wear during the performance, or filling water in a discarded hat that someone had to wear in the performance.
3 years before his death he married the American millionaire daughter Dorothy Park Benjamin. With her he had a daughter, Gloria, at the age of 45.
He died at the age of 48 from protracted pleurisy and blood poisoning. (www)

I am not musically trained, so I can only speak in layman's terms. When Lara sings "I love you" - I believe it, with zero doubt. When Lara sings "I am tired" - I believe it, with zero doubt. When Lara sings "I hate you" - I believe it, with zero doubt. That is not the case for me with most (even fantastic) singers.

I recommend you a Spanish singer her name is Diana Navarro with the song "El perdón" she is a singer that transmits a lot when she sings and has incredible melismas. She is also very versatile when it comes to singing. She sings different musical styles. Best regards

Marisan is one of very few reactors who I really like (even love) listen to. She knows what she is talking about (musical education) and she does that with such a delicacy (personal feature).

This is an Italian song, language, style and performance. Which is far away from American. And Lara is enough Italian to bring it. So far that, the Italian way, she sings with her hands. Think, oh horror, of an American singer bringing this.

The original rendition by the composer Lucio Dalla is a story told by him with his enormous insight, there is no comparison to any other secondary covers, we miss him silly: Lucio Dalla.❤‍🔥

Your admiration for Lara doesn't justify your uncountable brutal interruptions of her performance my dear. The ideal reaction is to let the video go and then the fc..ken eternity is all yours to comment endlessly. But unfortunately this is something reactors don't use to do. You tortured and killed the creation of an artist you seem to love so much, I was dissapointed, I nearly cancelled my like. But very nice of you the fact that you managed to know about the real story of Caruso, very few reactors use to do so. And this is absolutely essential for some performances. For example before we listen to her Paris2001 concert we have to know about her suicidal thoughts at that time to understand the incredible love from the audience. An of course the change of the lyrics the audience made in "je t'aime" singing "we love you" instead of the original "I love you". Take care, you are a remarkable reactor, it's so sad to be disrespectful to an artist you love ❤
