- We get hold of this awesome Z20LET Vauxhall Astra Van, but there is a bit of news with it.
We love an engine swap as you all may know but this is one of Stu's Favourites.

I've a massive soft spot for a MK4 Astra. I used to have a silver SRi Turbo one which had a Z20LET and that Prodrive front bumper. I had it for about 5 years until someone smashed into it. The insurance were 50:50 about whether to repair or write off so basically gave me the overriding decision. I knew I wouldn't feel the same about it so I told them I didn't want it back. I still miss it to this day. I replaced it with an Astra H VXR and replaced that, 5 or so years later, with a J VXR. I love my Vauxhalls.

I think that’s the most I have seen Stu smile in a video 😂 glad your happy with it 👍🏻 I was always getting people commenting on it, it should be about 240 bhp as it’s only a stage 1 map so the vxr bits should really make a difference 👌🏻

Mines is about 350, I've got an arden blue on with forged wossner pistons and rods big bearing ands all that jazz and a garret GT28 tubular mani 6 paddle clutch, what's your insta I'll send some pictures if your local I'd meet up for some pics with the 2 of them🤪🤔

I'm a huge VXR fan but I'm more a fast estate/van lover. So this is perfect 🥰 I even like the way the rear bumper is still black !! You have practically and performance! 300bhp is easily achievable !! Just watch that gearbox 😆
A black front bumper would be proper stealth. Each to their own💪🏼💪🏼😍👌🏻👏🏻

Iv got an 03 plate astra g van with the standard 1.7 dti engine in it ..its my ultra reliable frugal daily driver, iv kept it that way purely for lots of long journeys that cost the bear minimum ..i have the use of another motor for speed 😁
Owned the van for 13 years abd and its served me well ,iv changed it cosmetically over the years so it looks the part .its not slow either it nips along quite happily 😁50 + mpg lol ..

Good trade, definitely a bit different 😂. I'd be happy with that, absolutely hossing it to jobs around Norfolk with my tools pinging around in the back. I'd like to see a bit more of this please, 300bhp is the sweet spot for sure.

I almost bought a blue astravan which was for sale (and featured on pistonheads) with a red top engine, 320bhp, and it looked rough as fuck on steel wheels, the perfect sleeper.
The bloke who bought it, said he was going to sign write 'baiting specialist' on the side, I hope it's still on the road.

Vxr swap is on the cards now after the t5 is now gone u need weight in the back as they will step out

I have 1 12 plate sportive with full irmsher body kit 270 brake Z19DTH . With methanol running 330 stock internals yes saab 93 motor bimmer Rb . Its loony in the wet. The Yellow Perril 💛 it. Dynamat the rear and get two 15 inch jbl,s in there. With some trick mids and top's. Sounds the nuts.

VXR turbo, injectors & 80mm MAF and a good tune and you’ll see 300bhp easy. I had a Bertone Coupe back in South Africa 🇿🇦 that made good power with those mods. Really miss my Z20LET though.
Nice tidy looking van, i do like a Mk4 and the LET's are quite tuneable and reliable if looked after even though Vauxhalls get a bad rep, you'll also need an 80mm VXR maf sensor for 300 bhp and if its still on a standard ZLET clutch it would probably be best to fit a C20LET clutch with an F23 slave cylinder if keeping the 5 speed, iirc the Z20's aren't keen on dump valves so a forge recirc valve is a good upgrade over standard, as already said Nevlock Performance and Courtenay Sport are good for parts.
Deffo got to look into the parts and engine to be fair
@@MotorAddicts Looking forward to the upgrades, the gearchange can get a bit notchy but new cables, gearstick refurb and new nylon bush on the gearbox cable mechanism will sort that.

Z20let don’t last long at 300bhp as they are not forged! The Vxr x20leh has forged pistons from factory and holds 300bhp lot safer! The z20let is safe and happy and fun at 280ish! Cool van and nice addition to the channel

Absolutely fine if it's not mapped by stevie wonder , built a z20lel for a mate (same as a let) , that's been at 300 for the last 3 years....
Got a Z20 van (mk5) myself as a daily driver does surprise a lotta people

Cracking little van, does need some steelies and trims :) . 300bhp, as others have said is easy to get and is more than enough, my 5 door mk4 zlet sleeper surprises alot of folk :). Keep up the great work chaps.

@@MotorAddicts Cool :). Is your engine a ZLET or LEH? If its let be careful at 300bhp, the pistons are the weak area followed by the rods, leh have much better forged pistons. Forged rods/pistons is the way to go ideally but if not keep the factory rev limit (6 - 6500rpm) with a good map.

@@MotorAddicts I'd stay around the power it's at to be safe. Some folk have run more on the let but unless forged they are a ticking bomb. Be a real shame to ruin the block/head. They don't make them anymore!!!
Unfortunately these vans were never sold in Germany where I live. The only place I know that definitely had them (LHD) is Austria.

very nice. had both astra GSI turbo and astra vxr burg. both in stock form. the vxr handled better and had the better Z20LEH engine.
Id put a couple of seats in the back. Youd still have a heap of spare room for everything.

You need the AA logo on the side but convert it to read MA 🤣 brilliant motor though, think if you can find a estate rear bumper and paint the same colour would really finish it off. I wonder if you could find some irmscher side skirts 🤔 look forward to some progress though 👍🏻

Hey guys, would you do a buyer's guide for purchasing really modified cars & vans like this? I'd love to buy one, but always put off by stuff like insuring engine swapped cars, where to find a mechanic to work on it etc. Thanks lads
Stu have a look under the turbo for the plate, it's likely your turbo is already the vxr version as vauxhall stopped selling the gsi turbo years back. Your looking for the number 049 or 024 stamped in, the 049 is the vxr. Injectors and the vxr maf sensor is required as well as the turbo for 300hp.
Think I should bring my zaf vxr down for a comparison as mines at 313 at the crank, 270 wheel hp
I’ll have a look into that, if not got a turbo on the way anywho

I have a balance shaft delete kit and baffled sump kit I may sell too if your thinking of tracking it a bit more than your thinking already. Its a cool van, don't see many with the Sri front bumper, look nicer than the gsi one

I want pops! My stage 2 1.8t Audi A4, decat, back box delete, hybrid turbo, front mount intercooler, forged recirc valve and still nothing! Haha do I really have to do a res delete to get pops and bangs? I love how quiet it is at the minute

Agreed, I just wouldn’t mind the odd ‘pop’ or flame between shifts on wide open throttle, just a bit of exhaust drama as it’s lacking in that department. Don’t get me wrong, when I put my foot down I get a really nice roar from the exhaust, internals have been removed from back boxes

To get my zafira gsi (z20let) to 300+ bhp i got a bigger intercooler 80mm maf ,k04 turbo built to a k06, vxr injectors and a stage 3 map
