      I think some of the issues with Apple Watch are easily solved with 3rd party apps, like Atheletics for recovery, or Workoutdoors for routes, offline maps and great activity tracking. Apple Watch as a flashlight too.

    One thing to note is that even though quite a few Garmin watches have maps, not all do. Not all garmins give training suggestions either. Garmin has greater variety in features between their different watches than Apple does, so you need to make sure you are getting the right garmin watch for your needs.

    Since I'm a senior with some health issues I use the Apple Watch since I think it is stronger in that departement. It is also better integrated with my other Apple products. However, when I play golf I use my Garmin watch and I'm impressed by the battery life. I tried golf apps on Apple Watch but the battery barely last a full round of golf. No issue with the Garmin. At least 70 % battery left after a round.

      my dad is in the Hospital again for falling 2 times yesterday I grabbed his phone and quickly seen where he is having AFIB again after his APPLE WATCH SERIES 8 detected AFIB and PVCs on his ECG I ran on him then we rushed him into the hospital where he is right this moment. Also in APPLE HEALTH it shows where his sleep apnea is causing his heart to dip down in the 30s at night, So we are heading back up there to get the scoop on all tests at 6:30 pm central. My Garmin can only do an ECG, heart rate, and 02 it can't however show me any other stuff, but a Dr. has to read it showing anything other than AFIB! if you even worried about your health AWU.

    Apple and Garmin fan here. I use both. You don’t have to use the screen on Apple. All you have to do is push the one button and say a command. You don’t even have to say “Siri” if you push it. You can say, “start outdoor run”, “pause workout”, “stop workout”, “resume workout “. You can answer a call when running and don’t have to take your phone if you want as long as you have cellular. As far as someone said below that Garmin is a superior health tracker I disagree but agree it is a better fitness tracker as he stated also. The Apple as far as health tracking as always on fall detection, medication reminders, sleep apnea detection, and it checks for Afib in the background. It has car crash detection and many other things the Garmin doesn’t. Some Garmin watches have ecg but you have to have symptoms and then check for it.

      The Ultra has dual band and a pretty great heart rate sensor as well, so unless we talk battery life, the Ultra is a great device. I have been using one for a couple of years now as marathon training watch and love it. The combination of LTE and the metrics I need (and Apple having caught up regarding custom interval runs etc.) make it super. Do I wish it had better battery life? Of course! Would be amazing if we could get five days without worry

      @mikldude9376 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Everyone has their own use case , obviously if sport and fitness are your main concern the Garmin looks pretty good , but as already mentioned by others , all the other smart features on the Apple Watch some of which relate to personal safety with crash detection , fall detection , and being able to take and make phone calls without a phone are imo invaluable.
      When it hits the fan and you cannot get help , because the Garmin has no phone function , you may see the value of the apple device.
      You cant help using more battery if you have more features, most of the time if you plan on going into the sticks for an extended period you plan for things like charging smart devices with a power bank , so not that much of a big deal.

    I've had 3 Garmin Fenix watches over the years and they were all good. But in day to day life I have never needed all the stuff the Garmin offers. My biggest problem with Garmin is and was the slow response. Whenever I needed offline maps or something like that it took forever to navigate. The physical buttons are very nice tho, but I have had a way better experience with the Apple Watch Ultra so far. I think if you are a very serious sports person you should consider a Garmin, but if you are more of an enthusiast the Apple Watch covers your need very well.

    battery life is a fair point. what makes me stick to apple is sensor accuracy. it's been demonstrated that garmin's heart rate sensors are not as accurate as the apple watch. many people on reddit report that sleep tracking is useless on the garmin as well

    • @iim_human
      @iim_human หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t run into any issues with heart rate tracking on my Garmin Forerunner 265s, it’s pretty much aligned with my Apple Watch. As for sleep, Apple Watch is marginally better, where I see the most difference is that Apple is better at recognizing how long you wake in the middle of the night(potty breaks) and Garmin sometimes registers you being awake for a half hr when maybe you were tossing around a bit instead of actually being “awake”. I trust neither for nor do I care about sleep stages at this time in life so not sure how reliable either is. I’ve always heard no wearable is great with sleep stages at this time. But both devices as well as my Coros Pace 3 does great with identifying the time you fell asleep and when you officially woke up. If you’re not a stickler about the potentially awake times in the middle of the night then Garmins other features will definitely be rewarding, especially that battery life! But there’s tons more to it.

    I’ve used Garmin for 7+ years having multiple different watches. I’m a runner and cyclist and weekend hiker. I did love Garmin a long time. I had the Apple Watch Ultra 1 for about a week, but back then the OS was nowhere near close to Garmin in terms of fitness tracking. With Watch OS11, it is MUCH MUCH closer. I picked up the Ultra 2 in black and I think I’m done with Garmin forever. Imo, their software is incredibly buggy and slow for a $1000 watch, and now that Apple has closed the gap enough, it just doesn’t make sense for me to use Garmin anymore.

      wow I have the complete opposite opinion... After 7 years using Apple Watch (S1, 2, and 5) I am donde with AW... lack of physiological parameters with use for Athletes, lack of Topological maps for real navigation, and specially lack of an useful battery (Life, and health: since it is necessary to charge it daily all series will degrade around 1000 cycles or 2-3 years depending on use... I ask: what happens if you charge your Garmin watch ONCE PER MONTH? the likely answer is: A lot of years of potential use. However, granted, I have not used the Ultra 1 or 2, or WatchOS 11... so what Garmin Watch did you had? (I am aiming for the Forerunner 955, Fenix 7 Pro, Fenix 8 Solar or Enduro 3) it is really that bad? As I said, I am eager to run away from Apple Watch limitations. Thanks.

      the same story :) but I tried garmen fenix 8 for a week and was already done with Garmin 😅fenix 8 costed to me 1.2k$ in Europe, and it's too expensive for such a weak watch. I had worst user experience with such an expensive device ever. The flow of configuring watch face downloaded from ConnectIQ made me laugh out laud, I felt myself back to 2000s 😁btw @TheQuantifiedScientist makes a lot of testing sensors of different wearables (Apple Watch, Garmin, many others). Garmin is not that good for measuring health data in comparation with Apple Watch, according to him. And the difference is significant, counting that Apple Watch Ultra 2 costs almost 300$ cheepier then fenix 8 with titanium frame and sapphire glass. Yeah, probably Garmin could make more sense for guys who need a solid battery life, in this case Garmin much better, but I'm not such a guys. And maybe some professional sportsman's may find Garmin more convenient for the training, but it's debatable.

    I've been meaning to upgrade my Apple Watch for a while now and really have been curious with Garmin's lineup, but there's just a few things that's not made me feel the urgency to do so atm. 1) I have fitness goals but my life goals are generally not fitness based. I exercise to be healthier and feel better but ultimately fitness is a means rather than the goal in itself for me. 2) Charging the watch is already part of the daily ritual at this point, leave it when you get ready in the morning, and once when you get ready for the evening. Shower, cooking, working from home/watching YT, not really wearing a watch. 3) Just the little things that I do a lot, use find my (which Garmin can too), reply to messages via voice-to-text, and take pictures with the Apple Watch at times. Will still look around tho, but not feeling the need for now 🍃 great vid !

      That’s true. But from my experience (I am not a runner) a lot of the data really doesn’t matter. Coming from Apple I was really excited about all the data Garmin provides, but after 8 months I am rather disappointed. The new training readiness feature for example is something that never worked out for me. The problem is that it is highly dependent on the sleep data, which in my case is always way off. 8 Month and I am always sleeping poorly, which I am strongly doubt. So the data shows that my training readiness is always low. Besides that the feature is not needed since Garmin already shows me the estimated recovery time. They also have a separate HRV tracking, but HRV is already included in the sleep segment. The body battery is also way off. And they don’t even show me the steps for a run or walk. They don’t show the heart rate stress score or the heart rate recovery score. I got all those features from an app on my AW that was 7 €! That’s ridiculous. So they are basically blowing up the watch with features that are total unnecessary, but are really missing key features. Another disappointment was the app, which is not as good at all. I didn’t like the Apple App, but the Garmin App is not that much better. So far Garmin has been a total disappointment for me.

Just a quick note regarding the Garmin's being "not as smart" - they do have two models that support taking phone calls (Venu 3 and Fenix 8) and many more that support responding to messages directly on device, however, these functions are only available when paired to an Android phone due to artificial limitations on Apple's side. That's not to downplay Apple's advancements in the health detection area, they're definitely leading the pack there, just wanted to point out in that particular scenario, a more capable Garmin would have also alerted him.

      I respectfully disagree. Functionality between two comparable Garmin/Apple watches is a wash in terms of OS requirements. You can connect Garmins to Android phones just like AW to iPhones. Watch OS is simply less efficient than Garmin OS. I don’t know if Apple is using code generators or what, but there is some reason why a Garmin Enduro 3 has 10 times the battery life of an AW Ultra. Nice job on this video. 👏👏👏 You are right. The Garmin comes out of the box with some great features. The Apple Watch can access many of those features, but does so via a very robust 3rd party app store. For example, the Apple Watch app WorkOutDoors has all of the mapping features of the Garmin, plus a lot, LOT more! It cost $7.00 US. (6 Euros). But, man, what an incredible app! The flashlight on the Garmin is super nice. But the Ultra 2 uses its 3000 nit screen as a very functional flashlight that can also be set to strobe mode or red light mode. I use it all the time if riding my bike in the dark and when involved in evening astronomy activities. I hope this doesn't come off as defensive. I think the Garmin is a fantastic watch. I'd be happy to own one. But the Ultra 2 is also a fantastic watch. You just need to access that "fantasticness" in different ways at times.

      I have tried Garmin, but besides long battery life it doesn’t really do anything better. I don’t track my sleep with watches because I hate wearing them to bed so for me AW’s charging isn’t an issue since I just charge it along with the phone while going to bed.
      Apple was able to miniaturize their SoC for AW10 but the fact that they didn’t take this opportunity to insert a bigger battery just tells you for majority of AW users, having to charge frequently isn’t a big deal for them. I was looking at replacing my Apple watch 7 with either a Venu 3 or a Forerunner 265, but none offer as comprehensive a software solution as the Apple watch. Both are lacking random features that the other one has, for seemingly no reason other than to drive customers to the next higher Model. The Joke is that even the Venu 3 is more expensive than a normal Apple watch, yet the software is much less complete and the sensors measurably worse. I guess I will be sticking with the fruit company and maybe buying a used ultra instead.
