I think some of the issues with Apple Watch are easily solved with 3rd party apps, like Atheletics for recovery, or Workoutdoors for routes, offline maps and great activity tracking. Apple Watch as a flashlight too.
But yeah, the applewatch definitly sucks in terms of battery life

I’ve used Garmin for 7+ years having multiple different watches. I’m a runner and cyclist and weekend hiker. I did love Garmin a long time. I had the Apple Watch Ultra 1 for about a week, but back then the OS was nowhere near close to Garmin in terms of fitness tracking. With Watch OS11, it is MUCH MUCH closer. I picked up the Ultra 2 in black and I think I’m done with Garmin forever. Imo, their software is incredibly buggy and slow for a $1000 watch, and now that Apple has closed the gap enough, it just doesn’t make sense for me to use Garmin anymore.

wow I have the complete opposite opinion... After 7 years using Apple Watch (S1, 2, and 5) I am donde with AW... lack of physiological parameters with use for Athletes, lack of Topological maps for real navigation, and specially lack of an useful battery (Life, and health: since it is necessary to charge it daily all series will degrade around 1000 cycles or 2-3 years depending on use... I ask: what happens if you charge your Garmin watch ONCE PER MONTH? the likely answer is: A lot of years of potential use. However, granted, I have not used the Ultra 1 or 2, or WatchOS 11... so what Garmin Watch did you had? (I am aiming for the Forerunner 955, Fenix 7 Pro, Fenix 8 Solar or Enduro 3) it is really that bad? As I said, I am eager to run away from Apple Watch limitations. Thanks.

the same story :) but I tried garmen fenix 8 for a week and was already done with Garmin 😅fenix 8 costed to me 1.2k$ in Europe, and it's too expensive for such a weak watch. I had worst user experience with such an expensive device ever. The flow of configuring watch face downloaded from ConnectIQ made me laugh out laud, I felt myself back to 2000s 😁btw @TheQuantifiedScientist makes a lot of testing sensors of different wearables (Apple Watch, Garmin, many others). Garmin is not that good for measuring health data in comparation with Apple Watch, according to him. And the difference is significant, counting that Apple Watch Ultra 2 costs almost 300$ cheepier then fenix 8 with titanium frame and sapphire glass. Yeah, probably Garmin could make more sense for guys who need a solid battery life, in this case Garmin much better, but I'm not such a guys. And maybe some professional sportsman's may find Garmin more convenient for the training, but it's debatable.

However, when I play golf I use my Garmin watch and I'm impressed by the battery life. I tried golf apps on Apple Watch but the battery barely last a full round of golf. No issue with the Garmin. Great video! Just a quick note regarding the Garmin's being "not as smart" - they do have two models that support taking phone calls (Venu 3 and Fenix 8) and many more that support responding to messages directly on device, however, these functions are only available when paired to an Android phone due to artificial limitations on Apple's side. Apple intentionally limits integration with third-party accessories to help sell more Apple Watches.

A friend recently got a Garmin because he is into paddling sports. While using the Garmin, he noticed that his heart rate was off. After visiting the doctor, it turned out that he has atrial fibrillation. He didn't buy the most expensive watch, but if he had purchased an Apple Watch, it would have alerted him to this condition. Apple's advancements in health are what they will be remembered for, not just for computers or phones. The Garmin may be a sports watch, but the Apple Watch could potentially save your life.

I've been meaning to upgrade my Apple Watch for a while now and really have been curious with Garmin's lineup, but there's just a few things that's not made me feel the urgency to do so atm. 1) I have fitness goals but my life goals are generally not fitness based. I exercise to be healthier and feel better but ultimately fitness is a means rather than the goal in itself for me. 2) Charging the watch is already part of the daily ritual at this point, leave it when you get ready in the morning, and once when you get ready for the evening. Shower, cooking, working from home/watching YT, not really wearing a watch. 3) Just the little things that I do a lot, use find my (which Garmin can too), reply to messages via voice-to-text, and take pictures with the Apple Watch at times. Will still look around tho, but not feeling the need for now 🍃 great vid !

    • @iim_human
      @iim_human 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

I haven’t run into any issues with heart rate tracking on my Garmin Forerunner 265s, it’s pretty much aligned with my Apple Watch. As for sleep, Apple Watch is marginally better, where I see the most difference is that Apple is better at recognizing how long you wake in the middle of the night(potty breaks) and Garmin sometimes registers you being awake for a half hr when maybe you were tossing around a bit instead of actually being “awake”. I trust neither for nor do I care about sleep stages at this time in life so not sure how reliable either is. I’ve always heard no wearable is great with sleep stages at this time. But both devices as well as my Coros Pace 3 does great with identifying the time you fell asleep and when you officially woke up. If you’re not a stickler about the potentially awake times in the middle of the night then Garmins other features will definitely be rewarding, especially that battery life! But there’s tons more to it.

Apple and Garmin fan here. I use both. You don’t have to use the screen on Apple. All you have to do is push the one button and say a command. You don’t even have to say “Siri” if you push it. You can say, “start outdoor run”, “pause workout”, “stop workout”, “resume workout “. You can answer a call when running and don’t have to take your phone if you want as long as you have cellular. As far as someone said below that Garmin is a superior health tracker I disagree but agree it is a better fitness tracker as he stated also. The Apple as far as health tracking as always on fall detection, medication reminders, sleep apnea detection, and it checks for Afib in the background. It has car crash detection and many other things the Garmin doesn’t. Some Garmin watches have ecg but you have to have symptoms and then check for it.

I have tried Garmin, but besides long battery life it doesn’t really do anything better. I don’t track my sleep with watches because I hate wearing them to bed so for me AW’s charging isn’t an issue since I just charge it along with the phone while going to bed.
Apple was able to miniaturize their SoC for AW10 but the fact that they didn’t take this opportunity to insert a bigger battery just tells you for majority of AW users, having to charge frequently isn’t a big deal for them. That’s why Apple preferred to make the watch thinner than having a longer battery life.

Nice job on this video. 👏👏👏 You are right. The Garmin comes out of the box with some great features. The Apple Watch can access many of those features, but does so via a very robust 3rd party app store. For example, the Apple Watch app WorkOutDoors has all of the mapping features of the Garmin, plus a lot, LOT more! It cost $7.00 US. (6 Euros). But, man, what an incredible app! The flashlight on the Garmin is super nice. But the Ultra 2 uses its 3000 nit screen as a very functional flashlight that can also be set to strobe mode or red light mode. I use it all the time if riding my bike in the dark and when involved in evening astronomy activities. I hope this doesn't come off as defensive. I think the Garmin is a fantastic watch. I'd be happy to own one. But the Ultra 2 is also a fantastic watch. You just need to access that "fantasticness" in different ways at times.

Things that a Garmin simply cant do. Give it time. The things that I imagine will keep me coming back to the Garmin though are definitely all the fringe cases - like when I go surfing, eventually weekend snowboarding trips in a couple of months, and hiking… the Garmin just performs so much better!
I thought that I would miss the AW for all those smart features but when I gave it up, I just naturally did all those things with my iPhone. Maybe I’m just not as concerned with staying connected to the digital world as I thought I was!

@@JoshuaChang Fair enough. Yeah the Garmin is definitely a good activity tracker. I have not tried it for surfing but I have for hiking and snowboarding along with mountain biking, running etc and it does all those things well. The Apple watch also does those things well though so it's not a night and day difference. The built in navigation tools on the Apple watch are definitely not competitive with Garmin yet but you can always use Workoutdoors and load in GPX tracks with downloaded topo maps etc and it's perfectly serviceable. Also when you aren't in the wilderness and looking to navigate in the streets of a foreign city, the apple watch is arguably many steps ahead here so it is swings and roundabouts. I was in Italy recently and I did heaps of navigating, riding e-scooters around cities and towns with my Apple Watch and I fully believe that this experience was much better than it would have been with a Garmin. Like I can search, explore etc on the map on my phone and then when I am ready to go I just hit go and bam, it's on my watch. I get full street navigation with traffic etc and it's super fast, high res and just easy to use so when I am scooting up to an intersection I know exactly where to go and I can even wear my airpods and get audible instructions so I dont even have to look at my watch. Also another big thing for me, having Siri on my wrist is something I have gotten so used to that I really do miss it when I don't have it. Setting timers, creating calendar events, playing music, setting a reminder, messaging my GF etc etc and I can do all of these things hands free even when my hands are full or dirty because I have been cooking or gardening. Nobody wants to touch their watch when their hands are covered in raw chicken goop. The way I see it is that the apple watch ultra can do everything (all the core features that are most important) that the Garmin can do as good or good enough but the apple watch can also do many things that the Garmin simply cannot do. Anyway, at the end of the day it is personal preference so everyone can buy and use whatever they want and we should all be happy. I owned the Garmin Enduro 1 then came back to Apple watch and then later got a fantastic deal on an Enduro 2 from a lady that won it in a competition and didn't want it so I went back to Garmin but eventually realised I just miss the Apple watch even if the battery life is only 2 days and the offline mapping is not as good, the rest of the device is just smarter, better, more connected, more integrated and more "smart" instead of "sport".

While the Garmin is the better sports watch, 99% of users won’t be using all of the features. Tracking working and GPS, tracking steps, and heart rate and sleep are really the things most people use regularly which Apple does great. People can get what they want forsure, but after having a Fenix 7 and Apple watch I use both devices for the same things

I own both, plus a Fitbit. The Garmin is not as bright or colourful as the apple watch. The verdict - They are all bad: the sensors provide false readings when you start to sweat. You can get a water proof band that goes around your torse from garmin, and third party for the apple but not the Fitbit. Fibit - dedicate for weight loss and calorie counting, and can be used for exercise. Garmin - Vastly superior in terms of options, more geared towards sport. Apple watch - heart sensor is sporadic, requires third party software for logging in calories. But in the end, anyone who is serious about datalogging, calories and other health related metrics, they all fail. Get a waiste band and software on your phone. I also want to add that in broad dailight the Garmin and fibit are not as bright as the apple watch. In terms of accuracy they are all bad. I miss the old Suuntos, before they were bought out.

  • @RobertGaron

😎Apple Watch does so much more and is the “smartest” watch which is why the battery life is what it is. For Apple’s ecosystem, Apple Watch is the better choice, however of course everyone has the freedom to choose. That’s the great option of life.✌️

Is there a particular reason you keep switching between the apple watch 10th gen and apple watch ultra?
You collectively take both those watches as one - and switch around with the features of one watch to another.
I believe you make the point that the battery life in the apple watch 10th gen is 1 day - which is correct - but not so the case with Apple watch ultra - which is the watch being displayed on the video.
You also started the video by comparing the AWU with the Garmin but keep using features of the 10th gen apple watch to compare with the Garmin.

I believe the core experience of all Apple Watches are largely the same.
The one line I put in there about Apple Watches still on an “all day” battery life was to echo my frustration (and probably a lot of others frustrations) about Apple’s lack of improvement in this area.
Sorry if that came across confusing!

The only thing that is terrible on the apple is its battery, my Garmin can last me 13 days with heavy usage without charge which is insane

From experience you’ll end up flip flopping between the two. Or both brands for that matter.
I have recently stuck with the AWU 2 for longer than expected, given most personal outdoor activities (trail running + hiking) don’t require Garmin’s battery life.
Apple looks to be also taking recovery tracking more seriously of late. It is not core to their business ala Garmin, but a good signal nonetheless.

I have both a the  Watch Ultra and a Garmin Tactix 7 Peo and wear them both throughout the day however, at night I only wear the Garmin because of battery life and better sleep details. I wear the  Watch for mobile connectivity (phone & messages) so I don’t have to take a phone with me whenever I go (plus I have gotten injured on runs previously so it’s good for the just in case).
