I haven't worn a watch in over 20yrs because I was a mechanic and a watch got in my way plus my phone did the job. Then some years ago I went into tech and self employed. I never got into smart watches despite wanting to because of Dick Tracey as a kid. Then I decided to get a watch because in checking the time on my phone, I would get sucked into emails or social media. Little did I know I was finding a new hobby. First watch being a Seiko 5 sports. I was inheriting the distaste for quartz from most YT videos until I realized I could test drive watch styles way cheaper and learn my style with Citizen Eco-drives and such. I came to realize I do like higher accuracy quartz and solar watches. I own an Accutron DNA and Longines Conquest VHP alongside Citizen and Bulova 262hz watches. @@orangeyellow-me1pz Well said. I will say, I guess my stance comes from my primary need for the watch is to be a tool. Even then, with the mechanical watches on my wish list, I would likely just use them on weekends when I am more free with my time. Any watch without a timer and alarms is just jewelry to me. Apple watches are powerful but generally more of a distraction then they are worth imo, unless perhaps you're an athlete or get the cellular version for going out w/out phone. As someone with 6.4" wrists, the only viable options I have found so far are the GMS5600 (unusually small and business-casual-passing square metal g-shock) and BGD-5650 (unusually small square baby-g w/ solar and atomic radio). Those maybe paired with an Oura ring might be the best daily driver setup I can get.
I love watches. I own many automatics, but I mostly wear my Apple Watch Ultra for utility. I use it all the time at work for messages, emails, music control, math, GPS, vital monitoring, etc. I’m definitely a power user of my watch. I still wear my traditional watches when dressing up or going on a date, though.
I ceased wearing battery (quartz) driven watches since the late 80s after my Casio daily wear's battery died halfway during a school exam. My dad passed me his old late 60s Seiko chronograph watch as a stand in until I got a replacement battery for my Casio which I never got around doing. The current daily wear on my wrist is some twenty odd year old Seiko 5 watch that I almost never take off from my wrist.
@@bassandtrebleclef I was planning on replacing the battery but after my dad passed me his old Seiko automatic chronograph, I never went back to battery driven wrist watches for a long time.
Love Hamilton for hits rich Heritage! Have several Hamilton’s in my Collection. Wear my apple Watch on my right hand and wear my Other Watch’s on my left hand.
The problem with smart watches is that they're only good until the software they run on gets left behind after a few years. I'm still a sucker for traditional automatics with little or no complications, esp Swiss ones.
People interested in a fitness watch aren't interested in traditional watches. I had smart watches before the fruity watch and before Android wear. Those were good. The batteries were replaceable and they lasted a week on a single charge. Now they don't have replaceable batteries and they last 2 days if you're lucky. I hated the day after spending the night at my girlfriend's place because I'd have a dead watch on the way home or worse; when going to work. Even though the charger is in the bag the watch doesn't exist in my brain for various reasons. This experience sent me straight back to real watches. Now my watches will last for decades instead of 2 years (lithium ion).
@@too1leasy If you were really following, you'll realize he's focusing on regular looking watches either automatic or typical looking square gshock without it screaming smartwatch like an apple watch, samsung or Garmin. That's the point of the video you call dumb.

My favourite is citizen radio controlled watch. The time is always 100% correct and the value holds up. I own two citizen watches that are worth more now, than what I got it for
I used to have an Apple Watch, but ditched it because it didn't make financial sense to spend $700 on plastic that is based on ever advancing technology and loses battery power overtime. I prefer stainless steel DIVERS... Citizens, Seiko, Rolex, Hublot
Timex was the first watch I ever bought and really got me into appreciating watches. Though I kinda don't like hearing the tick sound of their quartz ones.
What’s a starter watch? For adult toddlers? Or just a snobby way of saying it’s cheap compared to big boy watches that you’ll need to eventually upgrade too when you’re an expert?
Nobody needs to "upgrade". I collect watches since around 2007. Bought over 180 watches between 40 and 1,400€. The ones I wear most are around 200€ maybe. Price is largely irrelevant because you can get the same movements in watches for around 200-300€ that are also used in watches that cost way more. So unless you are trying to impress people with the name of a brand (and believe me - 99% of people won't recognize the watch you're wearing or even look at it) - a cheapo Seiko 5 is perfectly fine.
I think of a starter watch as something to use and find out if you even like wearing a watch, though these are certainly more than my "starter" was, a Seiko 5 SNK809 for $45
I use a galaxy watch 5 with my SKX007 together on a custom strap i made, the Seiko is on the top of my wrist while the gw5 is on the inside which i find easier to control vs the top anyway. Amusingly it took over a year for any coworkers to notice compared to constantly getting asked i was wearing two watches when i used to wear a Fitbit on my right wrist. I started with a Seiko 5 SNK809 to see if i liked wearing one, it was for a pure utilitarian purpose, to make sure i wasn't down in crawl spaces for too long. I later upgraded to an SKX007 wanting to be confident in its water resistance. Unfortunately after i think 4 months i dropped it on a cement floor from about 5' adjusting the strap, it took a small chunk out of the floor and was horribly out of time afterwards, after a few months of trial and error regulating it i got it to under 1 second deviation which was easy to control - setting it face down overnight would speed it up while face up would reduce. After six years the original movement died which i imagine was from the impact finally catching up to it, i upgraded to an NH36 movement along with some other modifications such as a red ar sapphire lens that i still haven't been able to scratch.
Why on Earth do you need a traditional watch right next to the smart watch that does all the same things? I understand wearing a regular watch to dinner or something but a smart watch is literally superior in every way from a purely utilitarian perspective
@@NoBaconForYou You're absolutely right, the smart watch does everything I need from a utility stand point and I do kinda use it more for that function than the traditional watch anymore. For me it's simply that I enjoy wearing my Seiko that I've worn for years and rebuilt myself. I use the Seiko for time and day/date, my GW5 I don't use for time at all, it's strictly for media, messages, pedometer and sleep tracking, it's essentially a Fitbit on steroids. When I was making the strap it did feel kind of pointless 😂, but I figured why not, it was a replacement for my Fitbit which I could never figure out a comfortable way to wear on the same wrist anyway.
Oh ffs, not this "better than an apple watch" "better than a smartwatch" bs again. I have a Ultra for running/general pa/gym a Seiko Arnie for manual labor and a Legend Diver (currently my fav.) for casual wear. Each watch does it's intended job, enough with the elitism.
Exactly I thought he was gonna show me some new smart watch and it was just regular watches. It's like saying an old rotary dial is better than a smartphone because it has more style.
I do manual labor and I wear my Watch Ultra everyday for 10 hours a day. Been wearing it all year and it still doesn't have a scratch. That sapphire display is nice. I bought the Ultra instead of a regular one because I work in a lumber yard. I used a G-shock before. A smart watch is nice because I can wear headphones under my ear muffs, and pause my podcast with my watch whenever a manager is nearby, so I don't get caught listening to podcasts lol
Gotta be honest… I would consider my self a watch enthusiast, but if I was not, almost none of those watches would convince me to pass on a $200-$800 Apple Watch. Smart watches deliver on what people are looking to compliment or enhance their lives, and are the great equalizer in terms of fashion accessories.
It's weird that the Apple watch has replaced every single brand, as well as Rolex, as the business wear watch. One day Apple will be sponsoring Formula 1 racing and Wimbledon. 😂
You can like apple watches and still be an enthusiast. People get caught up in wearing or buying in consideration of what others think. I buy and wear what I like. Example, I just bought the seiko sbtr017.
@megacab I would agree that you CAN be an enthusiast and wear an Apple Watch but that segment is incredibly small and probably dwindling or at the very least not growing
Another thing to remember is that the Samsung watch is far less expensive that the Apple watch. Of course, it pairs well with the fantastic S23 Ultra phone. In the end, I still prefer mechanical watches. A quick glance tells me the time, and no need to plug any in.
Any watch is better than an Apple watch, irrespective of the price point. Apple watch is a gadget, whereas, a proper watch is a beautiful piece of jewelry.
Timex/citizen/seiko, all three great choices and no extra nonsense, I get others use those features, but I have an smartphone, I don’t need another smart device 😂
I notice the SRPD comes up a lot from people who mention seiko 5, but no one really mentions the SRPE. Personally, I own an SRPE and compared with an SRPD in the store, and the dive watch style of the SRPD is just too much for me. The SRPE is a great everyday watch that can be dressed up or down about as much as you want, truly a versatile watch for anyone wanting to check out seiko. Still 10bar water resistance too.
I worked in a jewelry store and let me just warn you that anything with a raw titanium finish will scratch really bad really easy. So get something with like a hard Chrome, nitride, ceramic, or some other durable coating. Maybe hard anodized not sure on that, never seen it.
For me, its anything but a smart watch. I got the apple watch 2 when it first released and while excited for like 2 weeks, it added more stress and anxiety to my life and i stopped using it for anything other than telling time. At least my analog watches dont yell at me to stand up or breath every 30 seconds
I like the Coros Pace3. The battery lasts 2-3 weeks if you don’t use gps. Display is always on and the brighter the sunlight the brighter it is. It is all plastic and extremely light. Not a plastic crystal. It is worn by the current world record holder marathoner. The band has a nub on the keeper so it doesn’t keep slipping off.
I have a few watches even some of these but the Apple watch is simply for functionality, simple fact is while Im click clacking away on my keyboard and can simply glance at my wrist when a notification comes in is priceless 🤷🏾♂️
Hamilton is so slept on kinda crazy they don’t get more love. With that being said that titanium citizen looks beautiful. Never paid attention to it before
I've got the Seiko SRPD (the exact same dial colour), and it's absolutely brilliant. If I could, I'd get every watch you've mentioned, starting with the Timex Marlin chronograph.😅
Personally this you should have both… I use my Apple Watch Ultra daily and love it cause I don’t have to pull out my phone every 5 seconds… but having one of these for more fancy occasions is great too
Siekos are the way. Also. Laarvee submariner crash the impossible watch.. but I influenced people to get into watches like Siekos first. The watches may look cheap online, but when you get it, the shine in the polish will make you mesmerize and love your watches, and the automatic watches are even better. If you’re broke, you can get replica watches for the and you will be in love, but please remember some watches. Don’t look shiny online when you get them, perfect
Bought Hamilton, it got broken 1 month later. The Service charged me an extra $500 to repair it as they considered it as "shocked" (i.e. the watch got hit, but it didn't). There was a tiny scratch which you could check with a macro. Total BS
I prefer high-contrast watches like the Seiko, Citizen, and the last one. I don't like metal band watches. While in Malaysia, I picked up a beautiful blue Seiko kinetic watch, but found out that a typical watch winder didn't work with it, so I designed a simple kinetic watch winder. In less than 10 hours of winding, my watch battery charge lasts three months. That was 5 years ago and the watch still works perfectly. It was less than $300.
For anyone purely looking for features, a solar g-shock will do just about anything without the constant notifications or charging. Plus it's way cheaper and will last forever.

Out of these, I'd go with the G-Shock just because I never knew they started making smart watches. That's pretty cool, for something that doesn't look like a smart watch
Broke college student with a $250 dollar watch💀
I still am a broke college student. Only I'm no longer in college 😅
My dad has a Seiko and an Omega too
I used a g-shock before i got my apple watch. real cool having auto synced time, and receiving notifications on a watch you dont have to charge.
Don't use it anymore because the apple watch does everything it did, and its honestly almost as durable
@@enyoonuche3525right! If they don’t go get a basic Casio for $15 so they aren’t late to class. 😂
I have a Hamilton kaki officers watch older model but beautiful and great quality, sapphire crystal and Swiss automatic movement
My Timex Marlin arrived today, i got it with the green dial and tan strap. The dial is stunning and it's one you can just spend minutes staring at and rotating your wrist in the light watching it shimmer
The marlin is beautiful. I love it to bits, however, the crystal is acryl, which is the only downside. But is only 200 bucks...
I have a Nixon Regulus. Aka: the G-Shock killer. I’ve been running it for some years. Deserts, oceans, cold, heat and plenty of falls and bumps. It has never failed me.
I think the murph is more every day than the Khaki, the khaki just looks too busy. Can get the hamiltons fairly discounted off full retail as well.
Expedition is the best IMO
For me 4796 INR (57 USD) Titan Fastrack Chronograph watch is more than enough luxury.
(Cheap off brand watches will cost 3 to 6 USD)
I liked all of your choices - each of them are worthy. They covered a wide range of preferences as can be seen by the comments!
I bought my Citizen Eco-Drive back in 2011 and it still runs perfect.
I have a list of mechanical watches I want when money allows from a JLC Polaris, Longines Spirit and Formex watches. No one else I know is like me other than 2 guys at the coffee shop lol
I don't hate quartz but I don't like it either. For me, it exists for those that need it. I'm glad you found something that seems to fit your needs perfectly. I view watches as a tool, jewelry, and they feed my fascination. I just love the idea of seeing all those gears and springs come together and tell the time without the need of a mini computer.
@@orangeyellow-me1pz Well said. I will say, I guess my stance comes from my primary need for the watch is to be a tool. Even then, with the mechanical watches on my wish list, I would likely just use them on weekends when I am more free with my time. One thing to note, I won't buy a quartz that has a second hand that doesn't hit the markers (must be SUPER close or it bugs me).
I have 3 Citizen watches, A Blue Angel,a Pro master & Eco Drive, all good Dailey wear as well as my Seiko Presage but My Tudor b panda Is my favorite.
Sounds like u caught the bug, good luck..just started this yr,I now have 11..Tudor Panda chrono my top dog, about 5,500$
@@richardmorris6365 congrats on the new hobby and I'm sorry too lol last year I got into watches and still am. This year adding in DE shaving razors. Look up Blackland Blackbird if curious.
I just passed my 25th service year and my employer offered a really nice selection of gifts from a catalog, one of which being the Seiko5 featured here. That's what I chose - it's a beautiful piece.
$375 for 25 years.
@@ShortArmOfGodit's still more than what 95% of employers would give, absolutely shambolic state of affairs 😭
Love your channel, you got me to get a Seiko 795 with Custom Sinn 556a dial and hands by Yobokies for it, been a perfect watch for me :^)
Hamilton field watches have quickly become my favorite style and brand
The current daily wear on my wrist is some twenty odd year old Seiko 5 watch that I almost never take off from my wrist.
the battery in your watch died during a test and that's why you don't like digital or quartz? Oookay.
@@bassandtrebleclef HAHAHAHAH! Maybe he became tramatized ☺
@@bassandtrebleclef I was planning on replacing the battery but after my dad passed me his old Seiko automatic chronograph, I never went back to battery driven wrist watches for a long time.
@@ChoySekMunSimonThe fault is yours for not replacing the battery when the seconds hand tells you.
My watch can tell me my heartrate
Love Hamilton for hits rich Heritage! Have several Hamilton’s in my Collection. Wear my apple Watch on my right hand and wear my Other Watch’s on my left hand.
Tissot, Hamilton, and Raymond Weil FTW
Damn man all of these are amazing picks!
The problem with smart watches is that they're only good until the software they run on gets left behind after a few years.
I'm still a sucker for traditional automatics with little or no complications, esp Swiss ones.
The Timex watch looks very classic and fancy! 💪🙏
Citizenn forzaaaa titanium for sure but that seiko pretty good to😊
People interested in a fitness watch aren't interested in traditional watches.
It's all designed to keep people purchasing the next big thing.
@@orangeyellow-me1pz Absolutely. These wrist computers are gimmicks designed to keep the masses buying.
I'm into both. This video is dumb though because the watches he's showing aren't replacements for a smart watch. Dude should have shown a Garmin or 5.
@@too1leasy If you were really following, you'll realize he's focusing on regular looking watches either automatic or typical looking square gshock without it screaming smartwatch like an apple watch, samsung or Garmin. That's the point of the video you call dumb.
Not at all, I much prefer the look of traditional watches but I also worry a lot about my fitness and my collection has been gathering dust due to the fitness and health features on smart watches. The G shock is perfect
Definitely like the Marlin although Bulova and even Victorinox provide good options in this price range.
Having family from Lancaster County Pennsylvania I'd have to go with the Strap Monster 🤔 History Represented 😎
Every one of these is a "strap monster"
My first watch as a teenager was a Timex back in the early 1960s. It is still my go to watch when I travel.
Timex was the first watch I ever bought and really got me into appreciating watches. Though I kinda don't like hearing the tick sound of their quartz ones.
Citizen looks a lot like a VC Overseas. Beautiful.
Citizen and Seiko killed it for me! Thanks for sharing.
Super tasteful choices all around. Good job selecting.
What’s a starter watch? For adult toddlers? Or just a snobby way of saying it’s cheap compared to big boy watches that you’ll need to eventually upgrade too when you’re an expert?
Well said
Something you can jump into without paying too much to see if you even enjoy wearing watches, dork.
To me, my CW trident pro is THE watch for me. I guess some would put it in the "starter" watch category.
It took them over a year to ask as they probably thought you were mental.
I’d rather have any other watch known to man in place of an Apple wrist phone!! 😂😂😂😂
Tissot PRC200. Fantastic watch, durable af. My daily rocker.
Cirizen eco drive, bought it back in 2015 still going strong
Legend Diver is a solid one.
can they connect to your iphone though? isn't that the point?
But why? Are you such a addict?
yes bro, because a smart watch feeds your addictions right 🤣
Gotta be honest… I would consider my self a watch enthusiast, but if I was not, almost none of those watches would convince me to pass on a $200-$800 Apple Watch.
@@megacabNice. How much did u pay for that Seiko?
The citizen forza is my choice for it’s elegant design. I don’t know about quality, but citizen makes a timeless classic like no one
Hammy is timeless, love that seiko as well
I wanted an Apple watch, then started reading and watching about watches, and ended with .... Casio F-91W I love it!
Well done
I’ll wear anything that doesn’t broadcast my whereabouts, monitor what I say, and sell my information….
Any watch is better than an Apple watch, irrespective of the price point. Apple watch is a gadget, whereas, a proper watch is a beautiful piece of jewelry.
Thank you for writing my feelings Exactly!
Video is right to the point and really nicely done
Timex/citizen/seiko, all three great choices and no extra nonsense, I get others use those features, but I have an smartphone, I don’t need another smart device 😂
Hamilton and Seiko own this price category 💪🏼 I recommend Khaki King or Seiko Arnie
Love my Khaki Field 42 with white dial on the green strap. Wear it almost everyday.
The Citizen is gorgeous!!.. at a reasonable price.
For $250 I'm loving my Orient Ray II, it's also go a beautiful blue dial and I've heard that the movement is better than the Seiko 5
Both. Apple Watch for daily routine - but a proper stylish watch for social events or dating in style.
Bulova Lunar Pilot is my choice. Mine is on my wrist right now.
Timex is really nice, would be more clean without the chunky extra detail on 3, 6, 9
The G-Shock Square looks and is awesome.
Citizen and Seiko are the best budget watches which look luxurious
Wonderful Seiko!
im wearing my King Khaki right now and im in love with it. i got it on the gray market for $400 and it was such a good choice.
Thank you for this video🫂
For me, its anything but a smart watch. I got the apple watch 2 when it first released and while excited for like 2 weeks, it added more stress and anxiety to my life and i stopped using it for anything other than telling time. At least my analog watches dont yell at me to stand up or breath every 30 seconds
This is a great video. Timex and the Citizen are my favourites.
Like all of them, except the apple and other digital.GOOD TASTE!
