    The only thing holding me back from switching to Garmin from my AW is lack of cellular connectivity because I don't take my phone on runs. I use the RadarScope and weather apps on my AW during the summer to monitor weather because we get a lot of severe storms. I've looked at different belts, vests, etc. to carry my phone but I just can't get used to it. I can't justify juggling both.

    Very happy with my Garmin Venu 3, I do the odd hike, have started running, and play a few sports a week. Not to mention the battery would last a week if I stretched it out. Zero complaints so far!

    I will say this once and for all: both are capable watches, and both will meet 95% of the needs of any user. Short of a 100 mile race, both will handle anything you throw at them.
    That said, I own both an Ultra 1 and an Epix Pro 47. Happy with both and love both.

    I currently have an Apple Watch. Battery life is the single most annoying feature of Apple Watch. I have had it for only a couple of years and like the recording of activity and the challenges between other Apple Watch users. I was recently on a cruise and wading into the ocean in the Bahamas killed the watch for a few days. I wasn’t too concerned since I was already looking at Garmin. I am an iPhone user and Garmin watches generally don’t integrate well with those phones. I have come across a Venu 3 which will allow me to make calls or texts based on the voice assistant. In my research I have found the compare option on the Garmin website to be useful. Thanks for your video.

    I was really loving the Forerunner 955 or even 965, their formfactor is IMO perfect. Clean and sleek, not too much of a bezel. But it was your video or another reviewer maybe that compared it to the Fenix line and boy the maps interaction was like night and day. This is one of my main buying points so I had to admit defeat with the Forerunners and that put me into the Fenix Pro line. Which are out of my budget... So after many videos and articles I think the Suunto Race is actually the best bang for your buck between Multi band GPS and maps/offline maps and navigation. Yes its lacking in areas, yes I still think Garmin is the best option overall but for a limited budget, they arent really cutting it. You go from reasonable to expensive really fast just to get a few extras

    I’m back with an AWU 2 from an Epix Pro for the second time now. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s easy to get drawn back both ways depending what you’re optimizing for.

    After using the Apple Watch Ultra for 2 years, I have come to the conclusion that the answer is : BOTH! I love the smarts, integration and breadth of functionality of the Apple Watch (and I could not live without them), but I have concluded that the running specific functionality of the AW is unreliable for serious runners. Lots of small issues which add up to a big one. The wheel is sometimes hard to rotate, the action button sometimes does not work, random screen touches (eg when wearing a jacket), using different gestures to start, pause and stop a workout, Lack of maps / directions, not being able to use GymKit with workouts. The number of times that I have inadvertently terminated a workout, progressed through a workout or lost data in a race has been frustrating. So I now use the Ultra for most things and have a Coros Pace 3 for running specific features and a reliable backup.

    Awaiting your thoughts on the updates from WWDC.
    Battery life on the AWU will still be an issue, however it looks like we'll be seeing wellness features reminiscent of Garmin, Whoop, et al without needing to use third-party apps.
    Plus proper offline maps in activity mode? Quoted from the keynote -- “…turn by turn directions for walking and hiking routes you’ve created."
    Give us tooling to build routes, or at minimum, GPX import and I'd be happy. WorkOutDoors is awesome in this regard already, but if it was built into watchOS even better.

    I’ve been wearing the Ultra 2 and the Fenix 7x for the last few weeks and I’ve ended up sticking with the Ultra 2.
    I’m not a runner so don’t need that functionality, with weightlifting and walking/hiking the Ultra ticks all the boxes for me, and with the new updates for watchOS 11 it adds in a lot of the missing functionality. I’m also getting about 2.5 days out of the Ultra which is perfect for me.
    The only thing I really miss is how glances are laid out on the Garmin, it was nice to just scroll through and see data right there
    It’s a lot of the app integrations that also got me to stick with the Ultra, if Garmin could convince develops of bigger apps to also develop for them it could become a game changer, maybe add in cellular as well

    I currently use a Suunto Core, and my favorite feature is the barometer-it alerts me to pressure drops, so I know a storm is coming without needing internet access. Can the Apple Watch Ultra do the same? If so, I’m ready to buy it now. If anyone knows please comment

      Apple Watch doesn't have this feature out of the box but there appears to be third party apps that enable it. The Garmin does support storm alerts.

    I would love a Garmin for the extra metrics and battery life, but I feel like I can't do without the features on my AW. First, there is the ease of listening to podcasts and music on long runs, which works much better than a Garmin. Plus, I have a cellular enabled version. While it's an extra $10/month, it allows me to use Siri on the goal, as well as answer texts and make phone calls. This has been a huge lifesaver in a couple of situations when I had bike issues on a long ride and when I bonked on a huge training run on an extremely hot day. In both cases I was able to call for support, something I could not have done with any Garmin watch. I use it for running, cycling, and swimming, and it does all with ease. I just have to make sure it is 100% charged for those really long (3-4 hour) rides.

    • @Nakameguro97
      @Nakameguro97 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With Spotify, it's easy to download playlists onto a Forerunner 265 for runs, at no extra cost. The Triathlon support is also better on the Garmin. The swimming support, track runs, etc... ...are about equivalent between the two brands. On the bike, I just use a an iPhone mount for mapping, but of course, it's also useful for emergencies. I originally switched from an Apple Watch due to the battery giving out on 2-3 hour long runs, but the Forerunner is just so much better for sports and health/recovery/workouts that my AW just sits on the charger now.

    • @MississipVol
      @MississipVol 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Nakameguro97 I had a Garmin at one time and downloading music or podcasts was really clunky compared to how easy it is between my Apple iPhone and watch. I definitely agree a Garmin would be better for triathlons. The absence of buttons on the AW does not make it as great swimming. But I've never had my AW give out during 2-3 hour runs or even 3-4 hour bike rides. And I use GPS on both. Now it dies soon after (unless I charge it) and I have had it die on really long hikes so I can see how a Garmin would be better beyond 5 hours.

    • @MississipVol
      @MississipVol 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Nakameguro97 weird that your battery gives out at 2-3 hours. I had 20% remaining after finishing a 4 hour bike ride this morning. One clarification: The video makes it seem like the Apple Ultra action button will only launch the workout app, but then you still need to choose the specific workout using the touchscreen to start a given workout. That's not the case. You can also set to action button to select a specific workout to start immediately. I'm a cyclist and I have mine set so that as soon as I hit the action button it begins the "Outdoor Cycling" workout. I just hit the button and start pedaling. No second step needed.

I got the 945 at a great price too and it has been a few years, so I'll see what happens in a week or so with the new announcements and maybe the Ultra 2 will make some sense, having more than a couple of days battery life I think I can live with, charging it every morning after waking up to top up might be ok...

I’ve been wearing an Amazfit Bip Smartwatch for over 5 years as beater watch and only “smart” features I glance at are the steps from time to time, and the GPS map tracking when I use to hike. I feel like I’ll have more uses for Apple Watch Ultra for my needs. I do wish Casio would release smarter smartwatches too, I’m liking gshocks style.
