    Thanks for the video, Josh. I would think Canon will put out some better crop lenses for this camera after seeing the sales. Especially with the upcoming recession and people potentially pulling back, this camera might sell even better than they expected. I've been debating the C70 and R5C combo but might buy this one instead of the R5C. I still want the C70 for an A-cam but could probably just buy two of these and be happy instead. All of these cameras are light years ahead of what I currently use. Right now I use the old 17-55 EFS 2.8 lens for my A-cam and it works nicely. That would be an easy pairing with the R7 I think. Decisions...

    Sigma usually comes to the rescue for lenses. You can get the adapter to fit the RF mount and they have the 16mm, 30mm, and 56mm @F/1.4 APSC lenses that are great. They made it for Sony and Canon APSC cameras. I have the Megadap adapter ETZ-11 for my Nikon cameras with autofocus and they are sharp plus the background bouquet is excellent.

    Don’t forget that you can set the control ring at the front of that lens to control ISO or aperture or whatever else. And then, on the body, if you switch to manual focus, it will control focus on the lens.

      I don't have a 90D and have never used one, but the R7 should be a huge upgrade for video. 10 bit 422, up to 4K60, improved autofocus, etc.

    • @mb-watches
      @mb-watches 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Josh_Sattin it’s a good update, I can use the lenses I have plus rf, so it’s future proof too. The 10 Bit 4.2.2 you just get in the ultra fine mode, but that’s ok, the regular 4K 25 and 50 (PAL) are line skipped and compare to the 4K of the 90D, as well does the cropped one actually. So you might not need to update if you have the 90d. The R7 though is a tad slimmer and the IBIS should help. By the way: is the ibis everytime on? I cannot switch it on and off. Just the digital 1🤔

    Cool vid. I'm seeing test that show that the r7 is good up to 6400/12800 without needing to denoise. Also some test show that the r7 retains more shadow detail and perhaps a little more dynamic range then the r6. I know that doesn't sound right, but I'm intrigued. I like the smaller size and weight of the 14-35, but f2.8 is much better for the type of video/photography I do. @@Josh_Sattin yeah 2.8 makes such a difference! And… it’s even more important on aps-c as the R7. I think f2.8 on the R7 looks like f4 on the R6 (ish). I’ve tried out both the 15-35 and 24-70 RF lenses on the R7 and I’m leaning towards the 24-70. The reach is so much better… but you’re missing a tad of the wide. The R6 has the worst dynamic range of any full frame camera on the market in video (Cined review) it is truly a garbage camera

    • @kevindiossi
      @kevindiossi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidm5790 I can tell by this statement that your actual hands on experience with that camera doesn’t exist. Which means you possibly don’t know that the R6 now offers CLog3 instead of the smaller CLog1 when CineD tested it. The sensor itself captures over 14-stops of photography dynamic range. CLog1 is limited in the R6 and R5 to roughly 11-stops of dynamic range. CLog3 opens up more shadow detail by up to 2 stops. This makes the R6 provide a very competitive 12+ stops of usable dynamic range in CLog3.
      Log profiles are important and so is real world experience before commenting. There’s also a lot more to video than dynamic range where many other cameras fall short and the strong files off the R6 can stand up to heavier color grades. But yes, truly garbage. Haha
      My complaints with the R6 have been the lack of Shutter Priority in video or the ability to save any video custom settings. This makes the R7 a better camera to use 9/10 for me.

    I did a overheat test this week. I recorded internally and externally for 90 minutes - then I stopped it for 15 min. I then started it again and let it go another 90 minutes and stopped it again. Realizing I only 13 minutes left to fill the card I started it immediately. The overheat scale popped up during both recordings but the camera never shut off - and only on the second half did it get to the first level of red warning. (I stopped it after 90 minutes because I shoot live events and was simulating what I need the camera to do).
    Short Version: Overheating is a factor to be aware of, but compared to the R5 (which I also own) it’s nothing.

      Were you using 4k fine 24? I’m curious about stress testing this thing as well. I just learned in the video that the 60 is only available in the line skip mode. So I can’t imagine that will be a problem. If I shoot 60fps B-roll clips on my r6 in little blasts, I know that I’m only going to get an hour. I’m curious to see how this will hold up in that scenario.

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can shoot most cameras below their base ISO. Lowering your ISO will decrease your exposure, but it is actually backwards from what you want. When you lower your ISO below the base ISO, you are shifting more stops of dynamic range into the shadows from the highlights. I know this sounds counterintuitive. When you are shooting in a darker situation with low dynamic range, you can get cleaner shadows by lowering the ISO. If it is too bright at your base ISO, then stop down your lens (higher F stop) or add some ND.

      It depends on the lens that you are using. If you are using a lens with a stabilization switch on it, you can turn the stab off on the lens (which turns off the IBIS too) and then you can turn on the electronic. If you are using a lens without stabilization or one without a stabilization switch, then no, if your IBIS is turned off in the camera and your turn on electronic stabilization, it turns on IBIS. I don't really have a way of confirming the first situation because if you are using a lens with a stabilization switch, the IBIS selection doesn't show on the screen.

Also, have you found you need the digital stabilization considering the camera and lens have IS? I want to get the entire frame especially when filming myself.

      I only used the camera for a couple of hours before making this video and I shared all of my thoughts at the moment. It will take a while for me to shoot with it and make more opinions about your questions. They will be coming in future videos. I personally think 18mm on a 1.6X crop is a bit tight for vlogging, but it's personal preference.

      @@Josh_Sattin I figured that much. Me too. I agree 18 is too tight, but my option is the 15-35 and that's heavy and it sits nicely on my C70. The stabilization was fine without the digital IS but definitely will look out for your thoughts. So far, I love this little camera.

      @@elmaldonado Yeah, that's the struggle with Canon crop sensor cameras. Not many good wide options and zero with RF mounts. There are some EF options like the Canon EF-S 10-18 or the Tokina 11-20. They would require the EF-RF Adapter.

    Hi, I have one question that is most important to me as an event photographer, is it with the EF-EFS lens adapter in video photography Decreases the number of frames from 50 to 25 as in the camera R ?

      I think the translation is making it tough for me to understand your question.

    It looks like a wonderful camera. I only question the moniker. After EIGHT years since the 7DII, this NOT the successor to that body. It's more like their took the already fabulous 90D, took two steps forwards, one step to the right, and then one step back and two steps to the left. It could have been an eagerly anticipated pro-level M body, with Canon keeping the R line purely full-frame. And the new RFS lenses could have just as easily been new M lenses. (These new RFS lenses are, in many cases, just different versions of the same M version.) Gone are the days when cost was a barrier to full-frame photography, when the cost of entry was a $6000 1Ds body. This high-end - small sensor body costs no less than a budget full-frame.

    Hey Josh, total noob question (unrelated to the video specifically): how did you adjust the exposure via aperture at ~12:05? I've previously witnessed "steps" or lighting jumps when manually changing ISO/aperture while recording-is it just a matter of reducing the intervals of adjustment?

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was using the RF 18-150, which is a variable aperture lens. At 18mm I was wide open at F3.5 but as I zoomed in, the lens closes down the aperture automatically since it doesn't have a constant aperture at the low end. After I zoomed to 35mm, the aperture was at F5 so I increased the exposure by adjusting my variable ND filter on the front of the lens.

    • @bestattentions
      @bestattentions 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Josh_Sattin ah it must have been the non-stopped ND I was seeing. Thanks!

      You're welcome. Not sure I explained that. I am almost always using a variable ND filter on my lenses unless the camera has one built in, like in the C70.

    How do you think this would fare as a video camera when used with canon’s RF to EF speed booster? That might turn this into a solid video camera for events videography allowing 4k60p.

      I heard an interview with a Canon person and they said that the R7 does not officially support the focal reducer, but you can try it. I think this is already a solid video camera for a lot of reasons and it does shoot 4K60.
