      Don't get it wet, or dusty, or sandy. Or want low light capabilities. Or plan on taking a lot of shots in one go. Do you remember why you didn't upgrade to the 90D? Well they are the same reasons to leave this well alone. The great autofocus doesn't outway the rest.

      The r7 has great weather sealing and as for the buffer, idk I’m consistently getting almost double of what I got from my 7D which was about 22/24 shots. With the r7 I get 40/42 shots and that’s while shooting in RAW with a UHS-I card. I think it’s a great upgrade.

    • @kevindiaz3459
      @kevindiaz3459 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Early speculation is that the camera lacks certain tell tale signs that would indicate a battery grip. The door doesn't look as though it was made to be able to be removed, and the mounting holes are not present. Its not been discussed much in these early videos, I think because in some cases they were using pre-production models. But, Gordons' video gives us a pretty good look at it, and there is no lever to pop it off (again though, I think it was a pre-production model). I'm not going to say it is not going to happen, but right now I'm pretty convinced its not, and if/when that news is confirmed its going to be the thing people blow up over this time. But whatevs. Would be dumb to omit that though.

    The best Canon R7 initial review posted yet. 11:50 Loved how detailed you got explaining the 4K recording options. I understand that 4K60 Standard has no crop using some kind of line skipped trickery, but can you clarify if there's a crop in 4K60 FINE? I'm considering this over the R6 as the R6 is still quite unsuable for extended periods of time due to the overheating in 4K60. EDIT: I rewatched it. So 4K Fine mode is 30p only??? Is this correct?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Appreciate that! There is a crop in the 4k60 fine. It basically turns it into around a micro 4/3 camera in that mode but it does amount to more detail and more in focus. It could be great for wildlife/sports if your not at a high ISO. 4k Fine is up to 30p so they still have 24p. They do have a 4k60 fine but it's an additional crop that does a full pixel readout

    • @michaelbell75

    That was a good passionate review. I shoot the R6 right now, mostly wildlife, and I have been waiting for the R7 for quite a while. The 7Dii was one of my favorite crop sensor cameras. In wildlife photography you can never have too much reach, so a cropped 32MP image will serve my needs much better than the cropped 8MP I get from the R6. Also look forward to the improved AF tracking. The R6 does great with fast primes, such as the 500F4, but struggles with an RF600 or the new RF100-400. The RF100-500 does a bit better, but at F7.1 it’s not optimal. Birds in flight are one of the ultimate challenges. I look forward to putting the R7 through its paces.

    I know I wasn't the one asked the question at 7:00 but in my day-job working for my local newspaper, I occasionally have to get photos in court hearings. That's one spot that a silent shutter would be absolutely fantastic. It's not that we're not allowed to shoot (that's what we're there for), but it's still really obnoxious in a quiet room.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      E shutter on the R7 should work fine in that situation. The light bulbs are probably good enough that you won't see much banding and there isn't really fast action or panning shots. A lot of wedding reception venues we shoot at though use decorative lights with horrible bulbs that flicker like crazy so those give us issues with E shutter.

Not sure if its how these cameras get reviewed now, or how the R3-R6 pricing has skewed our perception, but I don’t know too many people running out to spend $2k on a casual camera anymore. The R7 is truly aimed at those of us who have been waiting for an APS-C “complete package” Canon camera for wildlife, sports, travel, or just all-around. I find it interesting that this review, along with three others I have watched point this camera to being a great backup for the R5. And you were all in Orlando for Canon sponsored unveiling tour. Is this something Canon planted in your heads or is it possible, just possible, this camera can and will be the main and everyday shooter for a lot of users? As Dan points out, it has the insides (sensor excluded) of the R3. I might add the R5 and R6 both have the dreaded 30 minute video time limit whilst the R7 has unlimited video time as long as you have enough card space and battery power. The relocation of the wheel on the back is no big deal. I'm old enough to recall the introduction of the larger wheel on the back of the Canon cameras and it was odd then, but we all got used to it and that wheel became a fixture on every EOS body. Sometimes change is difficult, because we all get in a comfort zone.

      Yes and no. Yes, it is basically better in every single area...however, this is technically a slightly lower end camera...more like the 70D than the 7D so the hardware isn't quite up to 7D build quality and the buffer is a bit more limited. But unless you are shooting 15+ fps for 3+ seconds or need crazy rugged build, the R7 would be a great upgrade. As of now, Canon doesn't have a direct upgrade to the 7D

    • @bomberbinz
      @bomberbinz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not the mirrorless version of the 7d series, if it was the weather resistance wouldn't be that of a 90d and the button placement would be the same as the R5 and R6. I for one who have two 7d's that I've thrown about, used well beyond the shutter life and still going am really quite disappointed. I was hoping for a R5 even R3 light version like the 7d mkii was a 1DX light.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don't think it's a 7D Mark II update honestly. The 7DII successor should have had R5 (or at least R6) level hardware, a top screen, massive weather sealing, battery grips, and a pro level viewfinder. The 7DII was basically an APSC 5D but the R7 isn't an APSC R5. But thankfully Canon didn't cripple the software of the R7 so it's a really powerful camera

    • @donk8292
      @donk8292 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think as others have mentioned, the hardware, build quality, size, weather sealing are not the pro level that the 7D II was. In terms of the software - the AF, FPS, eye and subject detection, it should be a huge upgrade. I think ultimately Canon has realized - as perhaps Nikon realized as well, that a pro level APS-C just can't attract enough buyers. Which would explain why no 7D III and no successor to the NIkon D500 as well. So we get a lower, enthusiast level rather than pro level, camera that should still satisfy a large number of bird and wildlife enthusiasts due to it's AF system that is basically from the $6000 R3, but for $1000 less than if it was a true pro level body.

Will it be a big difference between the R7 and R10 for me? I don't care about the dual slot memory. Does the increase in MP and IBIS justify the 50% price increase of 500$?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! So the extra MP doesn't mean much and if the lens your using has image stabilization, you will be fine without IBIS. But the R7 does have better weather sealing, it's a larger grip which might be better with a 100-400, and the viewfinder is larger and better so there are a few hardware improvements as well.

Canon didn't have an answer on that question. The EVF isn't amazing but it's not bad enough to not buy it. I think the hardware of this camera is slightly below the 7D but the price is lower as well. Hello, guys as always is really nice to watch your video. Well I will wait a bit more but it seems that this is the camera I have been waiting for, kind of, but I would personally love a comparison between the R7 and the R6, in terms of Image Quality and Dynamic Range, also nobody is talking about codecs, is this camera shooting 10 bits in all modes? I own the EOS R and a BMPCC4k, and ideally, I am trying to build a set of equipment that will be like BMPCC4k & BMPCC6k pro and then EOS R6 & EOS R but since the R6 overheats is not a choice for me, now is the overheating in the R7 is more manageable and as you guys said it looks like the only modes that overheat are the ones oversampling from 7k I think it will definitely be a good companion to my EOS R (EOS R7 A cam, EOS R B cam)I don't really care about APSC or full-frame just quality and AF.
