    For me personally. The R7 was a no brainer. Ive been waiting for Canon to release a APCS mirrorless camera that does 4k60p for some time now. The main reason I wanted the APCS is because I use my Sigma 18-35mm on my 80D which is a APCS camera and there's no way I'm gonna get rid of that lens. I bought the Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 (CROP SENOR LENS) along the R7 and I couldn't be happier. I actually prefer the crop sensor as I mainly shoot weddings which means I can get more range out of zoom lenses. Also the VND adapter is amazing. All in all, Canon R7 is a beast of a camera; gonna be picking up 1 or 2 more.

    got this 3 weeks ago and am totally blown away with the capabilities...REAL WORLD USAGE, this thing is awesome to use and the autofocus will make me put away my 70D, the buttons are very easy to adapt to, the eye follow feature is enough to make you purchase this . video is solid in 4k fine and fhd 60fps still testing low light etc but so far awesome there too...bottom line is IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING UPGRADING GET THIS CAMERA the kit 18-250 is solid and focus is SPOT ON

    The camera was totally not on my radar. I said, “It’s too small, in every way - size and sensor” BUT I was tired of my Mark 4. I almost bought a R5C several times. Then while in local camera store I tried the R7 and had a conversation with myself - and realized that I was the problem…. I had set in my mind a certain level of expectation on size to my hand and I had to get over it. I bought the “Clutch” camera strap from Peak Design and love this thing. FAST, FAST, FAST - AF is awesome, FPS - amazing, noise is not a problem, being light weight is awesome - and I could buy three of these for the price of a R5C with grip. This is now my B cam to my C70 - I think now I am ready to sell my EF glass.

    Hi Josh, I got the R7 as a backup to my R5. Honestly at the R7 price point its an incredibly able ‘B”cam with the “feel” (for me) close enough to not be annoying . One of the things that struck me about the R7 was that 16 years ago I went on an overseas trip with an 8 mpx Canon 20D which in todays money was more expensive than the R7 and the latest Sony handy cam which I think was 720 resolution. When you think about it the R7 can do both the photo and video tasks heaps better and at least half the price !! Great review as usual 😀and it would be interesting to see where firmware updates take this camera they certainly took the R5 a long way. Cheers from NZ

    Thank you so much for putting a lot of effort in your R7 videos. I'm on the fence of buying one. The only thing that holds me back is the lack of wider lenses, like 24mm and wider. The RF 16mm suffers from noisy AF and heavy focus breathing. I wouldn't mind buying EF glass but even there I can not find wide glass with quiet AF.

    Thanks again for confirming that the R7 is a technically capable camera - at the moment I think it outperforms my capabilities :) I have no comparison to R5 and C70 so your experience is very important for me - I have ordered the R7 four months ago and used it for roughly one month and I find the video quality extraordinary. I shoot in CLOG 4k fine to have all the options for later use - just collecting snippets at the moment.
    The most helpful detail is the auto balance feature which gives me a clean viewfinder and keeps the horizon leveled. Makes tripod work much easier - roughly horizontal position of the tripod base/head is enough and allows simpler lighter tripods!

    Canon won't even let us see a horizon level while recording, sadly I don't they will let you see the histogram either. It's did like this that is driving me away from canon, even after being very invested in their EF lenses. I'd love to adapt them and be happy, but crooked images don't make me happy.

    I'm suuuuper tempted to snag the R7 with the RF 14-35 f/4L IS USM lens for vlogging. The 10-bit 4-2-2 Clog 3 is really, really, really making me consider this. Couple that with the oversampled image even with the IPB codec, and I think this would be a serious upgrade from my EOS R when it comes to vlogging. Oh, and the IBIS on the R7 combined with IS on the RF 14-35 would be huge for my vlogs in comparison to my EOS R and the EF 17-40 f/4 that doesn't have IS. Hmmmmm....

    One of the very best camera channels, period! Would you recommend the R7 with the 18-35 Sigma to a long-term Canon user who relies heavily on autofocus Canon's control app over the S5iix? Also, do you have any S5iix videos?

    The only issue with R7 is; lack of cheap wide angle like 11-18 F2/F2.8 and lenses like 55-250mm EF-S or 16mm f1.4 under 400USD. OR third-party lens.

    I get the notification on my phone for the new video and most of the time I watch it on my Fire stick 4k on my big TV but I don't sign in because the kids also use it for youtube and you know. So it seems a non subscriber is watching even though I am subscribed. I wonder how that works. I just love watching your reviews on the big screen. So does R5 have CLOG and CLO3 ? is CLOG actually CLOG2 - so R7 only has CLOG3

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and the support. I realize there is some of that kind of thing going on, but something like 85-90% of my views come from non subscribers. That's why I have to keep asking. In some ways it's just a vanity number but in reality it does help attract sponsors and companies to send me gear for review. My channel is tiny at the moment. I would always recommend shooting in Clog 3 over Clog. Way more dynamic range. Clog 2 has the most dynamic range but they only put that in their cinema cameras. The reason for the confusing order is that Clog 3 came out after Clog 2. From least to most dynamic range is Clog Clog3 Clog2. Hope that helps.

    I have a full collection of RF mount lenses and EF lenses for R5 and 5D mk IV full frame. I use the RF 17-150 along with the EF-S 10-17 and the Sigma 18-50f2.8 in addition to all of my full frame lenses. I have the Viltrox Speed Booster and Meike ND filter adapter for using with my full frame EF full frame lenses. I have plenty of lens options in my EF lens collection so lenses are not my concern.

    Hey Josh, awesome video. Thank you for all time you put in. On the lens recommendations - I have have had a ton of success with the Canon EF-S10-22 F/3.5-4.5. This lens is the focal length equivalent to the EF 16-35 l F/4. The R7 IBIS works very well with this lens and the image quality is absolutely surprising. This lens can typically be had for around $200.00 used and it’s outermost lens element is internal (The lens doesn’t get longer when zooming). If you can give it a try - I think you’ll like it.

    I own M50 (Kit lens, Nifty fifty, 55-250mm) and I looking for a camera under 1200USD. R7 is a bit expensive for me. 1250USD price tag could make it unbeatable. R10 is just an upgrade of M50 and it is not which I am looking for. There are thousands of Canon M50 owners who are looking for a camera within 1200USD with IBIS.
    M50 is a great camera but not for VLOG due to lack of IBIS. I Hope Canon will reduce the price of R7 and come with more RF-S cheap lenses for VLOG AND RF-S Zoom lenses.

    Question;
    Background; l shoot surfing videos and shoot with 2 Canon lens ef 400mm prime f5.6 and ef 70-200mm f4. I don't quite understand the 4k fine vs 4k fine line skip extra 1.8 crop pros and cons.
    Question; am l better off shooting 4k fine with 400mm lens (400 × 1.6 crop =640mm)or 70-200 with 4k fine crop which effectively increases 70-200mm lens 200 × 1.6 = 320mm x 1.8 = 576mm.
    Is the 70-200mm at 576mm as sharp as the 400mm at 640mm?

    After I Have had some time with this camera I feel the photo capabilities are less than full frame, I didn't like it for real estate. It's great for birding. The video is best used at 4k fine to see what this camera can do, 4k normal tends to get noisy and soft even at 800 iso. I was able to colour match this camera with my ZV-e1 looking like 100% colour match, the CLOG3 dynamic range on the R7 is quite impressive even next to the slog 3 ZV-E1. The R7 is my go to Canon video camera right now when I want handheld IBIS and great DR.

    Hello Josh, thanks for your detailed and pro videos about the R7, they are just great and with interesting info. I wonder if you could answer some fast questions or maybe, if you had time, upload some footage I have not seen anywhere on youtube yet. First I would like to know your opinion about the HDR video capabilites of this camera: do you recommend HDR-PQ or is it better to shoot in Clog and create the HDR material from Davinci Resolve (or similar). Secondly, and most important for me: What do you think about the video quality for shooting interiors (architecture, real estate) regarding the dynamic range? Generally most cameras struggle to show this kind of situations (generally the windows are just a white blob). In case you have time, could you show us how does Canon r7 render interiors?
    Anyway, sorry for the long message and again, thank you for your videos!

I used to shoot with the EOS R as my b cam for interviews in 4K with my RF50 1.8 which gave me a great „portrait“ look. I got rid of the EOS R and now I was thinking of buying the R7 (mostly for wildlife) but also as my b cam for interviews. Given that the 4K of the EOS R was also cropped, should the R7 with my RF50 1.8 also give me a similar look? And would the quality be comparable?

    Hey Josh, really helpful videos! I am covering mostly sport events. Vlog, b-roll and photos, so the quick transition from photo to video mode is important. I own an M50 (which gets the job done so far) and I've been thinking of purchsing the sigma 18-35. Do I stretch the budget and buy an R7 also or keep the M50 for now? Getting the Sigma and possibly an R7 means you need to stay in the ''crop sensor'' field for a decent amount of time. Or don't buy anything for now and save for an R6 or an A7iv (since there is a ton of options for e-mount lenses)?

    • @Josh_Sattin

      It really depends on your needs. But, I always recommend you buy the camera that you need now. If the M50 is working for you now, getting the results you want and making you money then it's fine. If you need more for your work right now, buy the camera you need now. There will always be new stuff coming.

    Hi Josh, I'v been watching all of your Canon R7 videos, great job! I just wondered if you could quickly comment on the 1080p quality? My C100mkii has been a workhorse for years but I'm looking at replacing it with a lighter setup with better AF options. The R7 is ticking all the boxes but I would most likely want to shoot in 1080p to keep file sizes down, so was wondering how the 1080p compares. Or maybe if the R7's lineskipped 4K on a 1080p timeline would be comparable to the C100's 1080p? Thanks!

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome. I haven't tested out the 1080p in the R7 and I haven't used a C100 II in a few years. That being said, the images will probably be quite different as the C100 II is much older and of their cinema line. The C100 does get its 1080p from an oversampled 4K sensor though. I believe the R7 will be much crispier with its 7K oversample. Because the file sizes are the same with 4K Fine and the line skipped, I would just shoot in 4K Fine. There are two bitrates available too. IPB is 170 Mbps and IPB Light is 85 Mbps.

    @josh Sattin ....Off Topic, it seems the r10 and the r50 have some advanced updated HDR PQ that is better then r6/r7 and it holds up to rec709 conversion, the hdrpq in my canon r6 is not ready for prime time, and when its all said and done you can get at least one full stop of DR extra over clog3 after converting to Rec709, I've seen footage and it looks great. Josh do you have an r50 for testing, maybe this is false as there is not much TH-cam evidence. I'm not interested in creating HDR content no no, but if I can get an extra stop of rec709 DR 422 10 bit in a cheap camera...yes yes. Josh here. A 2.8 lens is a 2.8 lens no matter which camera you put it on. It will still let in F2.8 amount of light no matter the sensor size, the exposure will still be the same. In terms of depth of field, again, the lens is constant. Because of the crop sensor it will be a tighter field of view so you will back the camera up to compensate, thus making a deeper depth of field. The distance from subject will change the depth of field.
