According to Edvin and the show’s creator, Wille doesn’t have a label to his sexuality. They wanted to show something where a person can be fluid and not have to “come out” in a traditional sense. So while he’s obviously not straight and in a gay relationship, he isn’t gay/bi/pan. I actually really love that because as much as I understand that labels can be very important, they are not always necessary and I like seeing a show just have a boy fall for another boy without having to define his sexuality with a label.
Yeah I like it too. I agree that labels can be very helpful in identifying whether something can even happen, with these 2 its already very 'go with the flow' so it isn't needed and I really appreciate that

@@HarryAllen9 yep, he’s been acting for a long time. He started with a kids show and then pretty early on got role on a famous crime show named Gåsmamman wich made him famous. Then he’s been in Julkalender wich is a thing we have in scandinavia where basically the whole country watches an episode a day from first to 24th december (Swedish Christmas eve). And so on..

The final kissing scene is my favourite in the whole entire show. It shows Wilhelm's anxiety so perfectly. I agree with you it was fucking incredible.

@@veryverybisexual4963 yeah, he originally auditioned for Simon, IIRC. But it isn't uncommon to audition for mutiple different characters in a show.

Edvin, the actor who plays Wille (def the easiest way to say his name) said in an interview that the hardest scene for him to act out was the scene in this episode where he yes, got a panic attack. He did bring experiences from his real life into his acting though as it’s something he has experienced himself

One of my favourite things about this show is how realistic and authentic it feels. Wilhelm’s nerves are very well acted too. Yes you’re right, His family will also expect him to marry a woman to keep the royal family bloodline.
Yeah, the fact that he has *consistent* self-soothing gestures is sooo relatable as someone with mutiple dx'd anxiety disorders. The portrayal was great! I've seen some bad ones. Lol
Skandanvian shows/films are the best for coming over real. YR is the best show I have seen on Netflix..I adore Edvins acting...he will go far..in general all the actors are great and real. I love Wille and Simon so much as I did Evak in Skam❤❤❤

I don't see why they would expect that though, like adoption is a thing that has happened in Swedish history when the king have been childless. If they are going for realism, they let him marry who he wants as our current princess and prince will be allowed to marry whoever they want man or woman.
Also, Frida Argento - who plays Sara - actually has Asperger themself. I can't speak for the portrayal, but I can imagine that Frida felt strongly about doing the character justice.
as a neurodiverse person i did ask myself whether that might be the case before i found out, the portrayal is definitely very authentic

The football game and motorbike scenes were the absolute cutest thing ever. This show gets real crushes and blossoming love SO RIGHT, because of all the little things: the looks, the awkward blushes, the sly touching to test, the tentative kiss (and Simon about to dart the Hell out of there when he says, "I'm not...'

Just commenting about your questions on August and ADHD medication, apparently he does not have ADHD but take the medication so he can perform better in his studies, i would not say that it's common but many people do thigs like that, mostly in college and in exam season. Also, loving your reactions and commentary!
Yeah I was assuming it was something to do with like an energy boost or a boost in concentration but wasn't sure on exactly what it would do heh, thanks for the info and the kind words!
@@HarryAllen9 when people who don't have adhd take it it boosts their focus almost hyper attentive, when people with adhd take it, it brings them to the same focus level that someone who doesnt have adhd would have. Hope this helps
@@HarryAllen9 yeah, it basically helps you focus on one thing at a time and actually get stuff done, but people without ADHD basically become overly alert and focused.
@@Al_-cf1dj what? Based on studies I have seen it doesn't do anything to people without ADHD because their brain is already wired right and lights up the areas that is needed for focus. Basically when they give the people without ADHD a placebo instead it has the same effect, it's a mind trick.
Thank you for your thoughts on the August character and the "reasonings" behind his asshole behavior. Yes, he's dealing with a horrible situation in his life, but he uses his family connections as a way to put everyone else down and "in their place" to try and make himself feel better.

I have watched quite a few young Royals reactions leading up to season 2, but I think yours is my favourite. You have such a warm energy and you make intelligent points and you are fun to watch without being too loud. Also love a guy who likes Simons based political views and LGBTQ+ couples :D
I don’t think August has ADHD. I mean he suffers from an inflated ego, but otherwise I think he’s fine.
ADHD medications are stimulants. If taken by someone who doesn’t have ADHD, it increases focus and attention, and it also prevents (to a certain degree) physical and mental exhaustion.
August says he needs the medication to be in “top form” so he’s abusing it as a stimulant not because of an illness but to keep maintaining this image of a perfect student that his peers look up to.
These drugs are commonly abused in western countries especially in the academic setting.

I’m so loving your reactions to this show. I watched the whole thing over the weekend and I’ve been searching out reactions. I’m a lot older than what I presume is the target audience but a show like this would’ve been so revolutionary when I was a teen in the 80s

You are right. I don't read like Wille is struggling with his sexuality, even if it seems to be in process.
I see more like a struggle about the fact he knows his royal status won't permit this sexuality, and it won't permit either to mix with another social class too. So he is torn between the fact he wants to be with Simon, but he knows he is not allowed to because of his royal duties.
The actor playing Simon was 21 when this filmed vs Edvin who plays Wille was 17.

Okay so from my understanding from tv shows and movies taking adhd meds when you dont have adhd sorta makes you hyperactive like you have more energy and maybe dont need as much sleep as you saw august does a lot of things in school so that’s why he takes it
Yeah after seeing him doing all this working out/running/rowing it definitely seems like something he would 'need' to be able to keep up with it all as well as his school work
It also might be worth mentioning that the show hints at him having body dysmorphia, and some adhd meds are known to cause weight loss/a loss of appetite.

I agree wholeheartedly with you, still obsessed with SKAM, these young actors just blow my mind, so much talent! Edvin has acted since he was 5 years old and skam was Tarjei's first role and he was nominated best actor that year, they even changed the rules for his sake bc he was only 17 at the time and one had to be 18 to be nominated. Tarjei didn't win that year but I am sure both he and Edvin will win some time in the future.

Exactly just try to say it. I don’t like when people don’t even try to pronounce names. If you don’t want to go try don’t say his name. When Harry said William in the first episode I kind of got mad because I think it’s rude to not even try and to say the name completely wrong. But that’s just my opinion. I also find it annoying how some people are pronouncing Simon in a “western”. It’s not that hard to listen to how the characters pronounce the names and then copy them!!
@@madelinecooper9981 but I’d rather hear people say ”sigh-men” than ”simone” cause simone is a girl’s name and it just sounds funny haha. swedish pronounciation is ”SEE-mon” (stressing on the see, not the mon) and mon is quick like the mon in monday, not ”moan”. I’ve heard a LOT of people say ”si-moan” 😭

"Maybe it increases his focus?" No 😊. Adhd meds (at least the ones I take) are a form of amphetamine. They are an extremely controlled substance, and can get you high if you dont actually have adhd. Ik im super late but I hope this helps if ur still curious.

is it just me or are they sometimes speaking Swedish and other times english or am i just stupid and thats how Swedish works
I think its just loan words that you're hearing. A language that doesn't have a word for a specific thing will often take the word and use it for their own, but slightly changing it so it sounds right. Like "stressa" means 'to stress'. I could be completely wrong but I can't remember them specifically speaking English hehe
Especially among teenagers and younger people it's very popular in Sweden to include English words and sentences in your normal daily language. We learn English from a young age so English is like a second language to us.
I know I am late, but some words are similar due to English and Swedish both having German roots. And also, on top of that, Swedish people use a lot of English in their daily life due to watching british and american TV-shows and movies, writing in english online, and listening to music in English. :)
Fun fact- Sweden is the third biggest export of music in the world. (and a lot of songs sung in English are written by Swedes.)
And also, Maddie- who says: F*ck you August- is an exchange student. :) So her native language is English.

A few words on Wilhelm fluidity and no labels that cast and creators pointed out. Seems like this is is the politics of production companies, to cover the whole sexuality spectrum, including this modern term fluid. Same was in Cmbyn where the cast and director were trying to convince us that Elio is not gay and with Nick in Heartstopper.
But in the case of Wilhelm, we dont really get to see that fluidity. We just see a guy coming from a very traditional family (as modern as the country is, royal family as the institution stays deeply in the past) struggling with same sex attraction. He gets a panic attack when he is touched by a guy and repeating constantly that he is not like this, while his actions and desires that are conveyed to us when he is alone and thinking about Simon say the opposite. He repeatedly pushes Simon away and then gets unable to fight the temptation. He needs the help of drugs and alcohol to break his defenses. From the first day he came to school we see him attracted to Simon and always trying to get in touch with him, but backs up when August or other kids notices them together even if it is all innocent at that stage. We know that this character is not snobbish and it is not Simon being from lower class that make him ashamed of being seen as his friend, but rather his own secret desires of which he is very ashamed.
All these are not reaction of a modern fluid or bisexual or pansexual guy, who would enjoy and explore all sides of his sexuality in young age, knowing that he can later as mature man marry and fulfill the family obligations. It is the reaction of someone for whom the situation is much more serious, cause he have no other options.
And we see him attracted to Simon from the first day and he never looked at a girl twice, which a fluid, hormone driven teenage boy would (like Elio in Cmbyn) before the things developed with Simon.
This is why I think, no matter the briefs given to cast and creators to satisfy the wide, straight market, that the prince is gay still struggling to accept it.
Omar actually told in an interview that the show is about a gay prince. But i understand their choice of unlabelling Wilhelm. Hence, we are almost sure that there will not be a usual come out scene and it is perfectly normal. They underline that the show is about love. Wilhelm is deeply in love with Simon. That is it.
