6:07 The cast is *much* closer in age to their characters than say Love, Victor. I think Edvin (who plays Wilhelm) is the youngest of the main characters. I think he was 17 when they first started. A lot of them were 19-21 in S1. Omar (Simon) I think is the oldest, though he has a baby face. I think he was 22 then. The creators of the show wanted young people who looked normal and natural. They have acne and blemishes.
Also, this is Omar’s (Simon) first acting part. He’s a professional singer and was in a boy band when he was younger. He speaks Swedish, English, and Spanish. You’ll hear him speak Spanish to his mom.
I think Samuel (Nils) is the oldest from the cast, he turned 30 last week

Actually Simon was barely legal when they started this show, he was 16 going on 17 and Edvin was older, about 18-19

“Omar Rudberg was born on Nov. 18, 1998, making the Simon Eriksson actor 25 years old as of March 2024. He's a few years older than his onscreen love interest Edvin Ryding, five years to be exact. When the show premiered in July 2021, Rudberg was 22 years old. He's also older than his character Simon, as he's established as 16 years old in the show. Rudberg is six years older than his character.”

I think the actress playing Sara and Simon's mum is Puerto Rican so you're probably right about her Spanish accent. Simon's actor is Venezuelan.
She's actually from New York and has lived in Norway for years. She learned both Spanish and Swedish for the show. Omar Rudberg was born in Venezuela but raised since age 6 in Sweden. His adopted father is Tomas Rudberg.
YESSS i'm glad you're finally watching it, and that you're watchng sub it's always better to hear the original actors voices and the emotions they put in. Just hearing the original language is som uch better tbh

You’ve honestly picked the perfect time to start watching Young Royals, because we’re currently waiting for season 3 and it should be out in early 2024 (probably January).

netflix has updated it, for me in the uk, it says its coming out in march
First 5 episodes on the 11th of march, other 5 on the 18th of march (that’s what I heard, I’m not sure if it’s right tho😅)
Edit- I just realized that what I said is probably wrong bc the first season only had 6 episodes so why would the 3s have 10 😂

Omar (Simon) is Venezuelan (he moved to Sweden when he was 6), Carmen (Simon's mother) is Puerto Rican & American. It's not clear from where that side of Simon's family is from, but somewhere in Latin America for sure.
Simon’s canonically Swedish-Venezuelan as, apparently, one of the foods that Linda makes is a traditional Venezuelan food (I can’t remember what it’s called though, sorry).
@@RedBanana_ yeah, that's my take too. Some people discussed it online since Linda mentions having family in Mexico as well, and since it's said that it's normal for Venezuelan families to be dispersed, Simon being Swedish-Venezuelan makes most sense :)

Yay I'm so excited for this! Young Royals is the first show in a decade to slide its way into my top 3 favorite shows. I even dressed up as a Hillerska student for halloween. I had already learned a bit of swedish because I have swedish ancestry but because of this show I have nearly a year streak on duolingo swedish now haha.

0:28 Yes! We made the same mistake. We watched Squid Games dubbed and I wish we had watched it subbed. Never going to make that mistake again. However, if you ever decide to rewatch Young Royals again, you can try it dubbed because the actors all do their own dubbing so it’s their own voices. I do recommend first watching it in Swedish with subtitles (there’s two and one will translate the songs, the other doesn’t translate the songs). Then it’s interesting to watch it dubbed because you get a little more background conversations that aren’t in subtitles.
If you are watching with Subtitles use the British version ... a lot is lost with the US English translation ( I don't know if this is an option ) but i realised my subtitles were different from American reactors .

5:50 Simon is a non-res student (he doesn’t live at the school). The elites at school assume that all the locals can easily get drugs and alcohol since they’re lower class. I guess alcohol is difficult to get in general. There’s only three years at the school. Wilhelm (the Prince) and Simon are first year, but I think that’s like our sophomore year age-wise. Then there’s second year (junior) and third year (senior). That’s my understanding of it. Simon and his sister Sara can go to school for free. It’s only the dorm that costs money. (These are some of the questions that many reactors have when watching YR.)

I don't believe it's ever made clear where Simon's Spanish-speaking family's is from; but the actor (Omar Rudberg) was born in Venezuela and moved to Sweden at age 6. So, lucky him, he was bilingual as a toddler, and since Swedish kids all learn English in school, he got fluent in all 3 pretty fast.
She really tried to re-create the fnaf 1 jump scare at the beginning

Omar (the one who plays Simon) is from Venezuela so that's why you might have not picked up his accent! He's also a singer and was very famous in Sweden for his career in the music industry years before YR. It's actually his first role as well :)

Okay, I didn't read all comments, so maybe someone has already said this - but the drinking age is 18 in clubs, but to buy it in liquor stores you have to be 20. And August is either 18 or 19 the first semester of 3ed year.
And btw, yes I'm one of those Swedish speakers viewers ☺️ i actually even grew up in this particular area where the series was filmed
And yeah, riding horses is "known" to be a thing for rich people, but tbh even tho it's expensive the love for horses sometimes make you make room for it on the cost of a lot of other stuff. I'm a living example myself, I only had a part time, low payed job but still bought my own horse. I could barely put food on the table half of the month, but I still had my own baby spending almost every awake hour at the barn. And most of my friends there struggled to have money for anything but their horses. So yes, on the surface it might seem to be a rich person that you assume can afford what ever they want, but in reality their living standard outside the stable could be way below the average.

Episode 2 Input… as for daylight: in Sweden the times when (and if) the sun comes up and goes down can be quite different to what you are used to in the US. Even for me in Germany it is. And the Hillerska Boarding School is not even that high up (north) in the country- it’s still like in the south of middle Sweden… so yeah, it can be confusing to see the darkness and you will go and think „wait what time is it - especially in a scene in the fifth episode where August needs to be somewhere at I think it was three in the afternoon and for most of the watchers it feels more like elevenish at night…

u asked if anyone speaks swedish, so hi!! i'm finnish, but i speak swedish at least on some level. we have to start learning swedish on the 6th grade (when we're 12yo) up until we're 18 (i think). i'm 18, but i chose to continue it until i graduate. almost all of my friends dropped it the second they could, though. now the swedish courses i have have like 7 people at best in them, when before they were all full (34-36 people), which is kinda funny and/or sad lmao.
learning swedish is not optional here, because it's finland's second official language. i like swedish as a language, although i have to say i'm not very good at it. i do hate the fact that we're forced to learn it rather than it being optional, because it feels more of a job than an interesting language to learn. i'm still grateful i've got to learn it though, because i love knowing multiple languages :)

Hi, Venezuelan here, ready to explain the beauty of a person that´s Omar Rudberg, AKA Simon.
Both the actor and the character have venezuelan parents and were born on Venezuela but moved to Sweeden very young, so he speaks english, spanish and sweedish.
En real life, Omar is a singer and the songs he sings at the church are his.
So yeah, the accent you hear is my beautiful subtle venezuelan accent.

The actor Edvin says that Wilhelm is unlabeled. He seems bi or pan, but mostly he just knows that he likes Simon.

I completely agree with your dislike for dubbed shows. However if you are ever going to watch one this is a great one to watch. The actors actually recorded both in Swedish and English and the English lines up with the subtitles amazingly well . I still love the Swedish version but it’s just cool to see how well done it is.

One good thing about swedish series is that all actors are the age they are playing, they show skin not filters and are not scared to look human
btw in sweden you learn english then your around 7 yrs old, so the actors did the english dub themselves + but I would still watch the subtitles
I know by now swedish, japanese, french, english and italian ( a lil thai and korean )

I’m from Sweden!!! And the drinking age is 18 for like bars and restaurants but u can’t buy like liquor and stronger stuff until u are 20 because there is only one store who sells it.
The training in e.2 was probably only around 6-7 pm. It's late September/October, and in Sweden it is dark by then.
You should watch everything now 😭 you will love it

Wille is a first year which is the equivalent of a sophomore in hs, he’s 16. He’s gonna be there 3 years bc it’s the beginning of the school year. So are Simon and Felice. Sara is also in the same grade but repeated a year so she’s older. August is a third year, the equivalent of a senior.
Thanks so much for using the subtitled version! As good as the dubbed version is, compared to most (here the very same actors did the English dubbing), it's still horribly jarring.

@@lynnhettrick7588 Carmen Gloria Pérez, Linda’s actress, is Puerto Rican-American, however, Linda is canonically Venezuelan - making Simon part Venezuelan. (Also Sara’s actress, Frida Argento, actually lived in Barcelona for a while so, yeah, all three of the (at least) part Venezuelan characters in Young Royals have lived in predominantly Spanish speaking countries at some point in their lives).
A bit of the aesthetics reminded me of Love, Victor, minus the shitty ending, because this is actually ending according to the writers' wishes, but with higher stakes, ala One of Us Is Lying. I do agree that it's wonderful for them to have cast actors who look like real people. That to me adds so much to the show in a way that it seems most shows seem to be unaware of. It's that hyper world where everyone's conventionally attractive and perfect and without any single mark on their skin and they're all skinny and they're all in perfect shape and it's just an overload of fakeness to me lol having real kids play real kids is just a great choice, and I love that the director of the show speaks about that specifically in interviews, about how that was something she specifically set out to do
