i dunno if anyone else mentioned this already, but the other kids (apart from august who is wilhelm's cousin) aren't royals, they're just from big rich families. so it's a school for rich people, basically.

It’s either really smart kids who outperform school, and the children who stay on campus do pay (that’s why Simon gets a completely different treatment from August than the other boys). Someone said schools aren’t allowed to charge students. All schools have to be free, but a way to get around it is to provide extras like making them stay there

It’s possible someone has already clarified this, but in Sweden the sale of alcohol is monopolised, so there is only one store chain that is allowed to sell it (except for bars, pubs and restaurants), and you have to be 20 years old to buy. So a lot of teens get adults to buy it for them for parties. So Simons dad would be known for buying alcohol for underage people. 😊

about ”dealing” booze:
you can only get alcohol at a certain ”alcohol store” in sweden and you have to be 20 or older to be able to, and they are very strict about ID. so it is common for an older person to buy the alcohol and then sell it to a younger person in private, for parties and stuff.
I just noticed it even says in google translate that to ”köpa ut” (to ”buy out”) translates to ”buy alcohol for minors” hahah
I’m turning 27 this year and I still get ID’d lol. That’s how strict they are 👌🏻

Way older viewer of this series. I loved how you noticed that Willie was always nervous, whenever he was around Simon. Yet, he made sure to get Simon to be aware of him, at all times. Introducing himself, letting him know that he liked his point of view on things, and him chasing him down at that party. Willie can't hide his feelings for Simon.
yes wilhelm has anxiety , the actor Edvin Ryding said he took a lot his experience with anxiety to portrait wilhelm's. Fu fact: a lot of simon and Wilhelm's interactions were improvised by the actors like willie singing , and Frida the actress who plays sara also has asperger like the character and yr show was Omar's (simon) debut as an actor
quick clarification on Felice! she's not actually royalty, she comes from a very wealthy family, hence wanting to get with Will (and "having royal children"), i think the instagram comments are from friends/other people at school, but yes pretty spot on on she pretending for media.

She's the new nobility, which is the ultra rich. August is old nobility and a second cousin to Wilhelm. Wilhelm is royalty.

Love this reaction! Just to clarify a few things (I am Swedish):
* Hillerska is a fictional school, but it is at least to some extent based on the two major boarding schools of Sweden - Lundsberg and Sigtuna. Actual Swedish prince Carl-Philip attended Lundsberg, as have several others from the Royal family since the founding of the school.
* The initiation that is shown may seem extreme, but it could actually happen. It is quite common for the people in their first year of high school to be initiated by the older students, and at some schools it gets quite bad - especially at one of the two major boarding schools. (Reports about serious injuries made them tone it down somewhat, but it is still quite extreme. In 2013 at least two students were burned quite badly when older students put a hot iron (that you normally use to iron clothes) on their backs. The nine students, and one faculty member, that were involved were fired/expelled if I remember correctly). I know a person who had to do the "drink spit from a cup" (though it was mixed with alcohol for her) and I also know some people who were tied to statues and then covered in ice cold water and then left there...
* 1 USD is about 8.50 Swedish kronor. The school fee of Lundsberg (meaning one of the schools Hillerska is based on) is about 300 000 SEK and at Sigtuna it is over 350 000 SEK, meaning that Hillerska probably cost about the same, meaning around 35 000-40 000 USD per school year. It is not technically attending the school that cost money (as school has to be free according to Swedish law) but it is the boarding part that cost that much.
* As boarding schools are typically located quite far from the major cities boarding is necessary in order to study there. It is never mentioned how far away Simon and Sarah lives from the school, but one can assume that they spend more that just a short time on the the bus/in the car in order to get to and from school. For the kids from wealthy families, their families would live even further away, either in the fancy parts of Stockholm, or on large properties in the countryside, meaning that their kids can't attend the school unless they live there.
* As others have explained - Hillerska is a school for the rich, not just royals. As only the closest family gets royal titles, a whole school just for them wouldn't work. For example, today Sweden have a King and his wife, the Queen. They have three children, all of whom have royal title (prince/princess). However, only two of the three children's spouses have royal titles (the one not getting it is Christopher who married the youngest princess. The reason he didn't get it was because he didn't want to become a Swedish citizen (he is American) and also because he wanted to remain working in the private business sector.) However, their children have not gotten titles either, not because of their father, but because they are too far down in the order of succession. The children of the second child of the current King do have titles, but their children will most likely not get them (if they have children).

Swedes binge drink until we vomit or pass out. This is why we cannot have nice things. Hence we have state owned liqour stores with limited opening hours.

The frog is from a fairytale, "the princess and the frog". The frog is actually a prince that has been turned into a frog, and the only way for him to be turned back is a kiss.
That's the american version. In the actual version the frog gets thrown against a wall because the princess does NOT want to kiss or sleep in the same bed with him, just because he got her golden ball from the well.
Could be alluding to the end of the show with **spoiler for people who haven't seen it** simon leaving Wille to have him find out what he really wants.

I went in totally blind, too. I was not sold by the trailer. I was not looking for another teen drama. I did not know anything about it. But once I saw it, I was hooked. I have now re-watched it 3 times. Totally didn't know I needed to see this one, but so glad I did. The actors/writers/directors did a fantastic job. Loved this show.
i thought that everybody at the school would be stuck up too, but surprisingly, they weren't! It wasn't even close to what I thought it was going to be like. It was a really nice surprise and a change

I never heard of it before even tho I'm European myself, but I thought it was a really beatiful concept.
Facts: Elvin (the prince) is only 18 years old, he was 16-17 whilst filming Young Royals, probably the youngest one there, so proud of him, (I sound like his mum) 🥰
The popular girl (Felice) is lower level nobility but her family is immensely wealthy, more so than some of the higher nobility at the school. A person like that wouldn’t be a celebrity per se but since she’s from a prominent family there’d be some degree of public interest in her and she would have a large social media following.
I actually think those comments might have been from her friends. Things like "I would die for you" and "I'm dying, you're so pretty" are really common (at least for a certain type of girl) to comment on her friends' posts as a way to show appreciation. It's mostly just hyperbole, and it kind of has the same vibe as people saying "omg, love you!" whenever someone in their life does something nice.
Wilhem is a prince and most of the other students at the school are either extremely wealthy or from noble birth. That's why Felice has a big social media following.

Because it’s only sold in state monopoly shops, which have limited opening hours and where you need to be 20 to purchase (you can buy at bars and legally consume when you’re 18). Many people in southern Sweden just go to Denmark or Germany to stock up on booze lol.

It's funny that the actor who portrays August described his walk as "punchable". He's actually willing to have a real assessment of the character and call an asshole and asshole.

Yeah, I'd say the only similarity with Elite is the fact that it's a private school for rich people and there's a few lower-income kids who attend it too. Other than that the two shows have nothing in common, imo. xD
Yeah, I kinda get offended when people compare it to Elite. Elite is shallow (it's just sex and crime all the time) and it's too forced (that teenagers kill people all the time and they kinda try to make it look cool).
I'd say this is 60% Skam. The natural way they portray teenagers, specially with the imperfect skin and actors who actually look like teenagers; how realistic the relationships are, like it would happen if this was real life; the almost absence of adults; the amount of improvised scenes; the cool, edgy soundtrack; the way everything is filmed.
Edit: also, I just now realized it, but they're both short seasons. Skam had 13 episodes with more or less 20 minutes each, while Young Royals have 6 episodes with 40/50 minutes each. They tell the story and that's it, they don't stretch it. It feels like a breeze and it makes us want more.
Simon/Omar has a good voice because he is actually a member of the boy group The Fooo.I think they disbanded, but yeah he has a background in singing.

Netflix US is doing a terrible job promoting it. It has been top 10 in 32 countries and is now in a few countries. Among them is Russia, which is fantastic cause «promoting» lgbt content is illegal there.

@@LivsWings_ that’s literally what CC stands for; ’closed captions’, aka word for word written down. it makes no sense to have the audio and the cc in different languages since they then no longer match up. subtitles tho are translating, so they actually translate what they’re saying. the dub leaves out so many cute or funny parts, like when wille said simon’s head was glowing when hiding from august, etc. idk I just really dislike the dub+CC in comparison to the original lmao 😅

Tbh I liked this because it felt different from the other teen dramas (Elite, Euphoria) where everyone is fit and is doing drugs and having sex everyday. So no, it’s nothing like Elite 😂
we most certainly enjoyed this i know everyone speak for ourselves but everybody had to enjoy this reaction because young royals is such an amazing series and im excited for you to dive in more but can you also check out Elite season 4, its the craziest season yet

I think the biggest reason I like young royals so much is because none of the characters are made to be sexualised
