Really excited to be getting into this show! I've only seen one episode but I'm already HOOKED

it's so refreshing to see teenage characters who actually look and act their age. the actor who plays wilhelm is only 18, and you'll soon see how incredible he is.
he was only 17 when it was filmed!
Especially since quite a few scenes in the show were improvised, this was also the first role of the actor who plays Simon, he is a singer though
The actress who play Sara also has asbergers, so she could use her own experience in the portraying of Sara.
Ahh that's so cool! It's nice to actually have a neurodivergent actor play her role!

It is Swedish, but all the Scandinavian countries are monarchies.
I’m not too sure about Denmark and Sweden, but the Norwegian royal family are really down to earth and allowed to be themselves to more of an extent than Wilhelm is in the series.
Oh really I had no idea! That's so interesting, I have very limited knowledge of the british royal family let alone other countries heh
I don’t know much abt the swedish royal family but I do know that they don’t rly care about class when it comes to marriage at least - royal members have married both a personal trainer and a girl who’s been in a reality show (I think love island?)
well, from what I know this version of the Swedish monarchy is of course fictional, and has probably taken inspiration from the real one but the one in the series is more dramatic for entertainment purposes. I'm Swedish but don't know too much of the royal family, but like a lot of them have married "normal people" and our current queen wasn't born in Sweden. But still, a lot of what happens in the show does reflect the Swedish upper class fairly well, the writer interviewed actual rich boarding school students and stuff as research for the show.
Alongside the Scandinavian ones, other European monarchies are:
Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain (headed by a King/Queen),
Monaco, Andorra and Liechtenstein as principalities (headed by a Prince),
and Luxembourg is a Duchy (headed by a Grand Duke)
The Danish royal family is also very down to earth. When The children turn 18 only the heir still gets apanage I think(get money support for being royal), The others have to earn their own money. The queens two sons are both married to foreign women; the crown Prince is married to a woman he met in a bar in Australia during the olympics in 2000 with whom he now has four children. The younger of the queens sons first got married to a woman from Hongkong and had two sons(The oldest study ecconomics and is also a male model), then they got devorced, and now he is married to a woman from France(where they currently live) and they have a son and a daughter.
I love that so many people have start watching this show, its sooo good
4:48 "socialist guy" is reffering to the biggest political party we have in sweden, social democrats. it has become an fun insult to call someone sosse since they are from the red block (history of caring for the little man) and the rich people often vote for the blue block (more conservative). so the comment is hinting at the fact that they are from different socioecomonic backgrounds. And kind of looking down on him because of that.

I'm Swedish and I can tell that when Simon says "I'm gay" to his dad it's not the first time. The way he said it was like "How many times do I have to say this dad?" To me this is obvious, but tone really is difficult to interpret when you don't know the language!
Oh and supplying alcohol to minors as an adult is considered shameful and looked down upon by society. We have an alcohol store that has monopoly and although you're allowed to drink alcohol at 18 you're only allowed to buy from the store at 20. Usually someone closer to 20 buys out to friends who have not yet turned. So Simon's dad buying out is not that sweet. However the dad is desperate for the love of his children (they no longer want him in their lives because he is an alcoholic) so he will do anything to feel needed by them.
I love that so many languages and cultures in this world have borrowed the English word 'fuck' to such success.
I mean... It's also in German... So we might have stolen it from German like many many many other words we took from them lmao. I don't think it's a uniquely English word, sadly.
Haha! I asked my Swedish friend about this. She said most of their native swear words are religion-based and any equivalents to "fuck" are generally used only in the literal sense. So they just adopted "fuck/fuck off" without translation. I too enjoy it.

@@Al_-cf1dj I just googled the etomology and google told me fuck does have Germanic roots. Google could be wrong? But it's usually more right about things than wrong.
@@AnxietyRat yeah, the spelling does seem pretty German, what with the "ck" and stuff, it's just the pronunciation of 'u' as 'a' that throws me off

Concerning the translation loss that you talked at 21:26 - it’s real in this show. I found it weird when Wilhelm talked to Erik over the phone and flipped when he said (translation!!): „go out and hang with your CRUSH“… that didn’t seem like an appropriate reaction. But what Erik actually said was: „go out and hang with your HOOK-UP“ and that made me understand Wille much better. I think even in this early stage he didn’t view Simon as someone he just wants to hook-up with but he already was very much invested emotionally and so he flipped at his brother a little…
this show makes me so genuinely happy and i am so happy that others are watching it
One of my favourite things about this show is how well all the characters have been cast. It's not specified in the show hold old Wilhelm is meant to be but I think most people have assumed he is somewhere between 15 and 17 and its so refreshing to see him played by an actor who is actually in that age range for once. Edvin (actor who plays Wilhelm) is 18 now however he was 17 when they filmed and he's an accurate representation of how teenagers actually look. The rest of the cast is all under 25 too which is just so nice!
If I am not wrong, Wilhelm is supposed to be 16-17 since I think he is on his first year just like Simon. And he became "public figure" just the last summer, which I would assume happens when the prince is 16. He comes to Hillerska like at the half of the first semester. And is just halfway through the year
@@d0nt781 Yeah, I don't know much about the schooling system in Sweden so I based his age range on school in England. In England you finish school at 18 (I assumed it was the same in Sweden) and so in you're last 3 years of school you are 15-18 so since Wilhelm and Simon are 'first years' I assumed they were 15-16 but like I said I have no clue about schooling in Sweden haha
@@Chloe-rr5om You were right. If you know the Swedish school system you'll know they're supposed to be 15-16 in this semester depending on when their birthdays are.
This only goes for the first semester (out of two) of each year but it's Year 1: 15-16. Year 2: 16-17. Year 3 17-18
As an autistic (Aspergers) girl, I relate to Sara a lot, honestly. Especially the part of wanting to have friends and fit in, but not entirely knowing how to do so.
The actor that plays the prince is only 18, he was 17 when they were filming, they do their own dubbing in English all the actors in the young royals ❤️
Edvin, the actor who plays Wilhelm here was actually injured during the fight scene at the start of this episode. He received concussion during the fight and spent a short time in hospital. He mentioned it in an interview somewhere the other week. That was very bad and Netflix’s H&S should have made sure that that sort of thing shouldn’t have happened.
I remember distinctively eating dinner on the couch when I decided to give this show a shot and the scene where they all spit in the cup and made him drink it actually made me gag and I had to nearly stop myself from vomiting my food up lmao

Great to see so many people have started to watch this show!! It really deserves a second and third season!! And yes! It's new! There had never been a show or movie centered in a royal prince being gay, is the reason the idea is so incredible and refreshing, never been done before! Will be here for the react of ep 2!

THANK YOU FOR REACTING. I LOVE THIS SHOW. HOPE THEY RENEW IT FOR A SECOND SEASON. Edvin and Omar (the actors who played Wilhelm and Simon) also dubbed the English version. You can rewatch it in English if you want. It’s so different and it feels more inclusive if you’re an English speaker.

you should read red, white, and royal blue by casey mcquiston! it's about the first son of the first female president of the us and the prince of wales. a movie is also in the works (it's gonna be on prime video) and the casting was just announced yesterday! it has really similar vibes to young royals and is one of my favorite books ever.

If you want to watch the show without the subtitles, the original cast did the English dub on Netflix, I think. It may not be the exact same experience as watching it in the original language, but it may make it a bit easier for you to not have to look at the subtitles all the time.
Tbh I had a look at it dubbed and I really didn't like it, felt weird to hear words that didn't match their lips u know. Besides, I watch everything with subtitles so doesn't bother me heh

Rewatching it I was able to read less and listen more and it definitely helps with understanding whats meant to be going on. There are also a few lost in translations across the series, unfortunately including some key scenes.
You are a joy to watch. I especially enjoyed watching you hate the initiation, that's way more fun than accidentally catching any of it myself as I try to click past it.
I don't think many people actually know enough about autism spectrum disorder in women to really make much sense of the specific types of mistakes Sara makes. She's kind of the opposite of Wille, he has more social skills than the average boy their age, she has slightly less, and way less than a neurotypical girl her age, including deficiencies in lots of women specific skills.
