Had Hondas for 30 years, decided to switch to Subaru. I literally was on my way to buy the Subaru Forester, and saw this at the Mazda Dealership. Amazing ride! Not all the cool toys, but the ride is awesome! So the CX5 select is in my driveway.

Test drove the CX5 and CX50 yesterday. I prefer the CX5 and will be getting one next week. I may opt for this one with leatherette vs the leather but am convinced it's the SUV for me.
I rented a Preferred trim 2023 CX-5 with the leatherette seats and smaller tires for 3 days. Loved how it rode, seats very comfy and supportive. I ended up buying a 2023 premium plus for the head up display. The leather seats are stiff and the ride with the larger 19" tires make the car fell hoppy and the Bose sound system is underwhelming. I would have been happier with the Preferred trim.
I love my CX-5 with the heads up windshield display, folding mirrors, heated + cooling seats, and all the great safety features. I have the 2023 Premium Plus. Happy with the new addition of AWD, roof rails, cool looking black and chrome wheels. The dial on the infotainment system is easy to use and I have never had an issue.
You sir have a sweet ride! That same trim/color was the first CX-5 I drove and reviewed (not my most proud of review as it was one of my first with my channel). But I appreciate your kind words and watching my videos! 🙂
I’m getting another CX-5 soon, a Premium Plus. I’ve had Sonic Silver and love that shade, but I’m curious about the Rhodium White color. The older pearl white color didn’t resonate with me, so I got the Sonic Silver, which I thought was more classy. What do you like about the Rhodium White? I am having a tough time choosing between the two colors. Is your interior Black or Parchment?
Nice. The select s cx5 really got the best bang for your buck in the compact SUV market. No visual premium and extra bell and whistles function. At least in the us market
Mazda CX-5 is one the few reliable ones with a traditional transmission, while all others including Honda and Toyota are going for crappy need-to-replace-at-100k CVTs.
I would think that the CX3 vs the Crosstrek is more comparable. The CX50 or the CX5 are more comparable to the Forester. I will tell you hands down that the traction and off road prowess is far superior with the Subaru.
I looked at the CX50 before buying my Forester Touring. I wanted either tan or brown interior but I couldn’t buy one unless I got the turbo. I don’t want a turbo, so that’s why I ultimately chose the Subaru.
Agreed! It’s such a pleasure to drive, even just going in a straight line down the road. I don’t think I’ll ever choose to drive my Outback over the MX-5 other than when it’s capacity or capability is necessary, lol. 🙂
I was, too. But I didn't want 19" wheels because of the harsher ride and (mostly) because replacement tires are much more expensive. But if you don't mind that, the upcharge for the Carbon edition seems very reasonable.

How is the ride smoothness (bumps/rough pavement/etc) when compared to the CX-30, in your experience? Does that extra sidewall make a noticeable difference in general?
I haven’t taken either to more than gravel roads. The CX-5 had about a 5% longer wheelbase and added with more sidewall does make a slight difference. But both are fine. Definitely go test drive them! 🙂
I cannot compare it to the CX30 but I can compare it to another major SUV brand. I don't want to drop a name but the other brand is not Honda and it's not Toyota. I think Mazda, Honda and Toyota are probably the top 3 car builders. But I took that other popular brand through the Midwest and I swear the roads just about rattled it apart. My cx 5 went on the same trip and the difference was like night and day. The CX5 is just built solid and tough. And it's luxurious. Even the lower trims like the select just feel really plush.
Leased a 2022 cx 5 and decided to buy it. GREAT value! Base model! They sell great leather/ ette seat covers that would look nice but also protect the fabric so the value holds up over time that I’m considering putting right after a detail cleaning!
Any thoughts on the accelerator and brake pedal being postioned very close together? Something that I have heard on forums. It appeared that your right foot was positioned more towards the console base area, but perhaps that was the camera angle.
That’s not something I’ve ever thought about in any Mazda other than my Miata with it’s narrow pedal box, lol. So I haven’t noticed that. Definitely go test drive one to get that concern off your mind. 🙂
I ordered a CX5 Exclusive that will be delivered in September 2023, my only downside is comparing my current Peugeot 3008 superb eight speed auto transmission. We’ll see.
Question: Is the 2023 Sonic Silver Metallic color any different than the 2021 Sonic Silver? I’m having a hard time choosing between my usual Sonic Silver vs. the new Rhodium White. What is your feeling?
I would assume it’s the same paint spec and mostly unchanged between years. Otherwise they should change the name of it. I think both are good, in fact I have a silver Outback and a white Miata, lol. But I really like silver. 😅 Best of luck in whatever you decide! 🙂

I have a 2021 and will be leasing a 2023 Premium Plus. I’ve had the CX-5 since 2018 and have been very happy with the vehicle, no issues whatsoever.
What made you choose the CX 5 vs the CX 50. I am trying to decide.

Hi is there any exterior visual difference between trims?
Not much other than the typical items such as wheels/tires and painted body panels/trim pieces.
How did you change the odometer screen?
I believe it was one of the steering wheel controls. But not very obviously listed. 🙂
The back USB ports are going to be useless once you put a car seat in the back.

So how does that dashboard computer work
Center display by the info button on the wheel. And dashboard screen by the scrolly dial and surrounding buttons near the console. 🙂
