As a CX5 owner and resident of the northeast where roads are notoriously terrible, I think where the CX5 has the upper hand is in ride refinement. Yes, a Forester is very soft and cushy, but the ride doesn't feel settled and sharp impacts are loud and harsh in the cabin. While the Mazda is stiffer and you feel some more bumps, it settles down very quickly, NEVER feels harsh, and remains quiet even over the worst roads.

Just picked up a 2024 CX5 select, to replace my 2021, CX5 Sport, I just love this vehicle for all the reasons you out lined. The interesting thing was the car did not have cylinder deactivation in it, which I was extremely happy about , because it was the one option on the car that I thought was standard, and it didn’t have it, I don’t like that option at all., its annoying and it most certainly wears out starter and battery and other accessories quicker, engineers said at the beginning that it did not, but most long range test have most certainly proved it does, how could it not ,you’re starting and stopping the car constantly if you gave it on. Love my CX5 and the 2024 was such a deal for $30,000 and now 0% financing for 60 months ,how could you not love it? Great car and I want to hang onto this one for a while, I average about 18,000 miles a year, so want a good car that can handle it..

As someone who is only 5 foot 9 inches, anyone who sits behind me should have more room because I am shorter than you and wouldn't need the seat so far back.
I don’t really need that backseat room anyway. It’s more of a “personal car” for our needs. We have a Sorento for long trips and hauling people around.
After massive research and two test drives bought a new 2024 CX50 as have been driving a CX5 but the lower, wider, longer look and more planted feel of CX50 compared to the CX5 is why I changed. Not as common by a long shot as well
@@jimmy5634I’m considering buying the carbon edition and I’ve never owned a Mazda before! How long have you had your Mazda and is this your first? Also, what is your opinion on a six foot person sitting comfortably in one of the back seats?

We just bought one. It doesn’t have quite as many options, the technology or the room as the Kia Sportage EX at the same price. The Kia takes nuisance bumps better as well. That being said, it is more fun to drive and exudes a more “luxurious feel” inside. It has what we wanted: Drivers power seat, heated seats, separate cabin climate controls and a load of safety features. The sound system is very good and the infotainment system is adequate for most people, like us. Every aspect of his review, is quite accurate. BTW, I hate “lane centering”.
I bought mine last Saturday 12/09/23. They sold the light blue one right before I got there, so I got the Machinery Gray Select model. I've got 127 miles on it.
We got a 2024 S Select with 5k miles at the dealership. It was a loaner car. Looks and even smells new with an MSRP that was 26k as opposed to the 2024 / 2025’s new ones at $30,5-30,9k. I am proud of us stumbling on it! We wanted a compact SUV for my wife. We went to Honda, only the HR-V would cost similar but would of been a downgrade (too slow and basic). The CR-V too expensive. Toyota: too expensive… basic LE RAV4 for an MSRP of 26k would be something with over 45 thousand miles on it. So, we stumbled literally upon Mazda. Last but not least: CX-50 vs 5-> Thought the CX-50 was “wow” because it looks very cool. Test drove both: I felt the CX5 simply better… better in the cabin (commodity), better drive feel (softer), better vissibility… I thought I was crazy but confirmed I was not after digging: CX-5 has its reputation built for the past 8-9 y, CX-50 just born 2023… Cx 5 made in Japan, with better rear suspension, more luxury interior… etc. If you will not be going crazy in the outdoors like 97% of you, CX-5 probably the best option.
Hi, great video and thanks for everything you shared. I am considering buying a CX-50 base select model over cx-5 (I like the looks and fresh design better). Do you think it would be same in reliability as cx-5 given same engine and powertrain?
I’d the same thoughts earlier and really liked the look of CX50. However after reading issues and complaints from users on Reditt, I decided to go with CX5. More polished and most importantly, built in Japan.
I ended up getting the cx-5 as well. I thought the interior of cx-5 felt more spacious. Also i got cpo cx-5 carbon edition with 7.5k miles 5k cheaper than cx-50 base model.
Could you Realistick or someone else please tell more about the possible transmission issues? I own a 2023 CX-5 and have noticed a slight clicking sound when my transmission downshifts from second to first gear while braking gently. And it feels like I'd say a clutch release in a manual car, and the car tends to move forward slightly
Thanks for the review. I just purchased one and I wanted to ask - is it just me or there’s a good amount for tire noise rumble coming from the front? Is it just the stock tires or is it just how loud it really is?

They ruined the 24 non turbo model with the awful annoying stop/start. I know u can turn it off I don’t want it regardless. Buy a 23 leftover if u don’t want the turbo.
In most vehicles, auto stop start doesn’t trigger if you are light on the brake pedal when stopped. You usually have to press the brake pedal past a threshold to trigger the engine stop. Just don’t press down so hard on the brake pedal when stopped and then you don’t have to remember to deactivate it each time you start the engine. It’s also usually deactivated when driving in Sport mode.
Nissan did the same thing with the Rogue: no annoying stop start in the redesigned 2021 and 2022 but for 2023 they added that auto stop start, very unnecessary because the vehicle (has turbo) gets over 30 mpg overall. I wonder if adaptive cruise really is standard even with this base trim.
