I noticed some damage on Kuhli's tail a couple of days ago, I think its due to him resting on the box filter in the tank when watching my other betta in the tank next to him. Thats why the filter changes between the old air powered box filter and the hang on back spillway that's currently on the tank. I just moved the filter media over to the HOB to try and prevent any further damage.
This is most probably one of the smallest fish channels I follow, but is definitely becoming one of my favourite channels by far. Clear framing of the fish and plants, practical information that we're all curious about. Thanks mate
I have a small heavily planted community tank (30 cm cube, about 7-8 gallons), with a school of 8 chilli rasboras, 3 cherry shrimp, 1 nerite snail, 1 rabbit snail, and 1 very chilled out betta. No problems at all, all peaceful, beautiful community tank.
Kuhli reminds me of my betta, El Macho. He's got a blue body & red, rosetail fins. He loves to strut his stuff around the tank like he owns the place. But he's gentle when I put my hands in. I've trained him to be gentler with the male guppies I occasionally add to his tank as their "horny jail". Now he just flares at them & they give him space, but I don't keep them together alone - I'm usually in the room watching TV or other chores. When I put the guppies back in their home tank & they don't get the message, they get moved to the 9g shrimp tank until their services are required. =p
I've had 5 separate betta fish in community tanks and had no aggression from them, including a male samurai plakat. The only betta I kept on it's own (ironically), was a wee female peaceful betta which ate all other living inhabitants. Except for a couple of farely large amano shrimp. 😂
I have had 6 chili rasboras with 3 different betta fish and it was successful with no damages or deaths I have had one chase them but never even get close to them.

@@chrisfarri8914 Thats the box filter mate, its really quiet in all honesty, runs on a similar method to a standard sponge filter so you can hear some air bubbles popping on the surface of the tank but its not loud and if I'm more than 4-5 meters away from the tank you can't really hear it. You can extend the air outlet so its closer to the surface too if needed to make it even quieter too.
I would love to know, I have wondered that a lot myself. I think he's just amazed that there's other little things around him. One of my other bettas was the total opposite and she just tried to eat anything that moved >.

Cheers, yea I love the look of Christmas Moss, switched most of my tanks over to it now as Java Moss just looks ugly to my eye :).
