All About Dwarf Blue Gourami (Powder Blue Gourami): Metallic Blue Fish!

- Powder blue gourami are a fish that you will either love or loathe, they are incredibly bright and vibrant and almost otherworldly in their metallic blue suit. Certainly the centre of attention in any aquarium. Also known as the pale blue dwarf gourami or the just the dwarf blue gourami they are relatively easy to find and very hardy once they are established in a well planted tank with lots of hiding places.

My filming stuff

BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.
I have managed to do most things wrong already. My plants are not thick or plentiful, (but the java fern is growing which is something!) my light might be a bit bright, and I added the gourami before there was a lot of hiding places - but she still found some. Using an undergraver filter with an air pump, so there's not a crazy fast flow. Also, I have some unboiled driftwood, so there's some tannins in the water.
I also blocked the cutout for a HOB filter with a bulky old battery powered auto feeder (my hob filter fell into the tank and I have grave concerns about using it now.). I am not currently using the auto feeder, it would dump too much - despite her likely disagreeing that 'too much' is a thing. Maybe later, when I have more fish! I primarily put it there becasue I have heard of gourami going off on dry land adventures through the filter gap and want to discourage her.
When I added the plants I also, naturally, added snails. The gourami has been picking off some of the hatchlings when she isn't swimming by the front of the tank begging. Also, the first time I dropped flakes into the tank she hid in the java fern for a few minutes! First time I've seen that.
Update - I have a small school of glowlight tetras in the tank as well. It's fun watching them stymie her attempts to bully them by shoaling and scattering, leaving her a bit confused.
2:00 this clip started my appreciation for curious fish in a whole new light. I haven’t event started owning fish (I now have 3 tanks) and I’m loving how much I’m learning

Would a powder blue be compatible with ember tetras and amano shrimp in a twelve gallon?
I am really enjoying your videos. I am trying to determine what fish will do well in a 5-10 gallon. I love Gouramis of all types they are my weakness.

I love your videos & am in love with the powder blue gouramis, I have 2 with lots of plants & hiding places. . I would like to get another 2 or 3, < I would like to know what you think. The 2 I have now do a little bit of chasing but I'm thinking if there was several more they might all get along. What do you think about adding a few more ?

Common names are a pain since they may change depending on shops/breeder and... language

I have one female and I HATE her, I don‘t say this lightly but I really do!
She is super annoying, swimming up and down in front of the glass for 24hrs a day. She does nothing but beg for food. The tank is really big, lots of plants and rocks to explore or hide behind… shes doesn’t care.
She only sits in front of the glass and begs for food. Once it‘s time to feed I have to make sure all the others get some too… she literally doesn’t stop eating…
I have never despised a fish more than her…
I‘m thinking about giving her away online… although that is close to a death sentence…
Hmmm, sorry to hear you are having a hard time with your gourami, they certainly can be persistent beggars.
Here is my two cents:
It sounds like its time for that fish to find a new home. I don't see the point of keeping a fish that's not right for your tank, any that I purchase but don't like for whatever reason goes back to the store - who are usually happy to take them as they can sell them again. Keeping a pet you don't like is not good for you as you'll just resent keeping her, and its not good for the fish who could be in another home. And you don't know sending her off will be a death sentence, but you do know keeping her is reducing your enjoyment of your tank - whose sole purpose is to be enjoyable. If it was my fish, she would be out the door.
But, that's just me. Either way though, good luck :)
@@tinymenagerieGood advice. I had a female honey and she was glass surfing. Replaced her with a male and he never did that. Wonder if surfing is a female tendency. It was probably just a fluke.
