My mom got me a Beta at Petco in 2000. I loved that fish but wanted a little frog that looked like it had claws (I cannot remember what it was) and my mom didn't want to get it if I needed another enclosure. So she asked a workers if it was okay to put them together. He promised it was. Like a few days later...I wake up, get out of bed and go to check on my little friends. My little frog gutted my Beta. I follow a betta-keeping Reddit and there's so many mentions of how bettas USED to live around 6-7 years, but now you're lucky if they make it to 3 years from the sheer amount of genetic diseases they have now. I hope regulations change for the health of these fish. Thank you for giving him such a wonderful home he's clearly happy in.
Omg, this was so beautiful, I love the told you told Rockets story. Thankyou so much for rescuing him and giving him such a wonderful new home and life. I hope you keep us updated on his babies and himself ❤
I love this. Bettas definitely deserve to live a nice life in a large tank with lots of room to swim just as any fish should. The only down side is when you “rescue” a Betta from a tiny cup in a pet store it only tells the store they should keep ordering more. The Betta trade is a very sad one. I’ve worked at pet stores and have seen how they get shipped. In teeny tiny little squared bags barely bigger than themselves with barely enough water to cover them and no room to swim. Sometimes no water and they’re already dead. I’m talking like barely 3”x 3” sealed bag. Of course most are already in very poor condition then they get placed into that tiny bowl and if they’re lucky they maybe get their water changed once a week. I wish more people could see how they are treated in the pet fish industry and could invoke changes. They deserve much better, they really do make for a nice pet and become very personable, as much as a fish can I suppose. Bettas have always been one of my favorite pet fish, and yes I have owned a few over the years.
I agree. and for those who wonder how to have a pet Betta without feeding into this... it's usually the big chains that do this the worst, soo check out your local fish shops (or locally owned pet shops with a big and well kept fish section). they're more likely to keep them in with other stock in tanks where they're compatible, or have a glass jar/sump system. or you can check out online shops of enthusiasts who started breeding for the love of the species. I used to buy small batches of babies from an enthusiast breeder and raise them up in my shrimp tanks to sell them online. people are sometimes stupefied you could ship a fish to an online buyer, but it's usually better conditions and a way shorter trip than the ones in the big box stores get-- they're almost always imported from south Asian fish farms.
@@nivisionI agree with your suggestions. I’ve worked at big name chain stores and also at a small single family owned store. That small family store was where I encountered the worst treatment of the Bettas. The very tiny bags with almost no water to cover them for shipping, and yes they were coming from far away, not local. The owner took park in opening the tiny bags and placing them in tiny bowls but didn’t seem fazed by how they were shipped and treated. Just kept placing more orders when stock was low. We would loose most of the Bettas to death rather than being purchased, despite the employees doing their best to care for them in their tiny bowls, was so heart breaking. The only time we put Bettas in big tanks was when they ordered way too many Bettas and didn’t have enough bowls for them so we had to place them in tanks with other fish but that only lasted until bowls were available again. betta fish natural habitat that they evolved in were often puddles and oxygen deprived ponds, so bubble nests help provide more oxygen for the fry until they can stay near the top on their own and gulp air. Betta fish have a Labyrinth. They can breathe air. They gulp air from the surface when the water is low on oxygen. Fry labyrinth are not fully developed to breathe as easily so the bubble nest helps.
It's lovely to see what a great life you've given these fish - and the Betta in particular - he has been able to thrive and make a bubble nest and raise his young it's really nice to see all the species thriving!

This is a fabulous video,I really enjoyed watching the process of creating a new home for Rocket.Bless you for saving him,I hate seeing those poor fish trapped in their tiny plastic prisons!
I love this story because it beautifully depicts the transformation of Rocket from a neglected fish into a thriving part of a vibrant ecosystem. keep up the good work!
Beta fish are actually labyrinth fish and can fully survive in a little plastic container, but it is the bare minimum for it and doesn’t mean it needs to stay that way! My beta fish loves chilling near the top left corner of my aquarium and stand upside down blending in with a fern plant, plus he loves coming up to the filter and putting himself in front of the tube that spurts out water and launches him across the tank. He doesn’t bother the other fish I have (I have guppies, neons, and different types of small catfish) since they only get agressive seeing other beta male fish and can kill female betas if they refuse to mate with them, so I’m glad he doesn’t bother the other fish Anyway that’s besides the point, thank you for giving this beta fishie a good home!
This is one of the most beautiful betta videos I’ve seen! Thank you so so much for putting so much effort into this! You deserve the best in life! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I have run tropical aquariums. We had a betta in a giant tank and he was one of the most active, rewarding pets ever. I was very upset and heartbroken when Comet passed away. RIP Comet, you maniac.
i love what you've done for rocket! my only criticism is that you've given rocket fish tank mates that would be better suited if the tank was 15+ gallons to allow everyone to have space from each other even though this tank has great water quality which doesn't look like it'll be an issue. the snail and shrimps are great! dwarf corys would've been a better choice due to their size, and guppies only with a bigger tank, especially ones whom are reproducing. never the less rocket is gorgeous and got a great home!
Thats a beautiful set up you made for Rocket. I'd call the female "Lady" from Lady and the Tramp. 😆 Don't let uppity people get you down. You rescued that fish at that moment from a deadly fate. Take care and GO ROCKET DAD!
I have a Betta named Augusta, he actually looks very similar to Rocky. We keep him in a large tank with live plants, we also have some plastic decorations in it too. His favorite spot in the whole tank is this hollow plastic skull he enjoys hiding in. He has a ferocious appetite and is very friendly.
Bubbles don't add O2...it's the surface movement caused by the bubbles that allows the gas exchange to take place. The idea of bubbles adding oxygen really needs to be expelled from the hobby altogether. I do love bettas tho and for anyone that is new to betta breeding and their behaviors, this is a cute informative video. Rocket looks so much better and tho I'm glad you saved him, buying from big box stores like that just helps them continue in their quest to mistreat all sorts of animals.
So are you saying that the surface movement allows more oxygen to dissolve, is that because the ripples and whatnot create much more surface area for oxygen absorption?
i feel like you are being pedantic. The bubbles cause the movement allowing the gas exchange to take place. Hence people say the bubbles add O2 to the tank. You are just being extra technical for no reason when they infact are effectively adding the 02
Wow..bettas are amazing! You did a wonderful job filming this and showing the process! I enjoyed the entire thing and it brought me both relaxation and comfort! ❤️
I got a Beta from petsmart like February 2019 and he died in 2023 or so. Honestly surprised how he lived so long yet still miss the hardy fella. R.I.P midnight
God, I hate stores that put bettas in cups. I wish I could buy all of them. When I see them swimming in that dirty cup, I shed tears sometimes. This is why I *no* longer support PetSmart/Petco. I go to a store called Carson’s Tropical Fish Store in Hawaiian Gardens, CA. It’s a local business and was even open during Veteran’s day. I don’t see bettas in the store, but I’ve heard of Betta fish tanks. Although space is small, it’s way more spacious than the cups. They have mini filters, mini heaters, and isolated tanks. For females, they’re put in regular tanks with the other fish.
I get that it’s just gonna put another fish in the same situation, but he did save the animals life so I think we can call it a rescue. I say this as many dog/cat rescues had to have someone purchase them from the abuser to rescue them. Thank you very much for caring tho.
I agree, the worst thing you can do is buy pets from abusive sellers. Same goes for puppies from puppy mills. The best thing to do is report it to the store manager, and then to any authority that is responsible for this sort of thing.
So if you pay a randsom for a kidnapped person are you not rescuing/saving them? The law of supply and demand probably won't solve this problem but legislation will. And this video he has created has helped to spread awareness so his kindness has benefited more than the fish.
god it’s not like there’s responsible breeders or independent pet shop owners that keep betta fish… he wanted to make a rescue video and you can’t do that if it’s not from petsmart/co
Tbh i thought about getting a betta fish, i didn't want to get a big tank. I wanted to get a smaller tank for a betta fish. Now realizing how it will go from watching this video. I do know how to raise a betta fish and taking care of them is easy. I decided not to get one cause of not having a spot to put the tank
I thought I had a good setup for my Beta, but this is way better. I didn't have cleaning shrimp or live plants. He had a few cory doras and guppies as roommates, and they all got along very well. They would all huddle together in the same corner of the temporary tank when I was cleaning their tank. I guess I could have traumatized them less if I had some cleaner shrimp.

I had a betta in college that would regularly build bubble nests. I'm so glad to learn he was a happy little guy
Your betta reminds me of my blueball. He looked as the same as your betta
He lived from 2006-11 (5Years) in a planted bowl 😢
Thanks for the video
Sorry to hear that.
This is a fabulous video,I really enjoyed watching the process of creating a new home for Rocket.Bless you for saving him,I hate seeing those poor fish trapped in their tiny plastic prisons!
Wow! This was amazing to watch. I've never seen "the embrace" before. Beautiful camera work! Thank you
I love this story because it beautifully depicts the transformation of Rocket from a neglected fish into a thriving part of a vibrant ecosystem. keep up the good work!
Thank you!
That is by far the best fish video I have ever seen! Congratulations. So well done!
Wow, thanks!
I love rockets personality so much. It’s so sweet to see how much he grown as he got used to the tank and he was such a good dad
The best dad!
That was a very beautiful story. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it!
How lovely of you to save Rocky!!! Fantastic project ❤
Thank you! 😊
The way he was looking after the eggs brings a tear to my eye
Best dad
My female is going on 4 years! She's about as big as a small male now and people always think she's a male! They're so smart and curious!
Yup!
Ruby will fit perfectly
This is so amazing I had no idea how cool these fish are ❤❤❤
Glad you like them!
💜 Love how he embraced the female ❤️
The algae is caused by the lightning above the tank.
Thanks for giving Rocket a great home.
Thanks for watching!
Dr. Plant has really inspired others
He doesn’t bother the other fish I have (I have guppies, neons, and different types of small catfish) since they only get agressive seeing other beta male fish and can kill female betas if they refuse to mate with them, so I’m glad he doesn’t bother the other fish
Anyway that’s besides the point, thank you for giving this beta fishie a good home!
As a fan of Dr plant I love watching these
This is one of the most beautiful betta videos I’ve seen! Thank you so so much for putting so much effort into this! You deserve the best in life! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you!!!!
I’m glad the little guy had another chance ❤
I have run tropical aquariums. We had a betta in a giant tank and he was one of the most active, rewarding pets ever.
I was very upset and heartbroken when Comet passed away.
RIP Comet, you maniac.
RIP Comet
i am crying at rocket blowing bubbles, that is so cute
haha yeah
Excellent story! I really loved watching this documentary about Rocket and his family and community. 💗
I would love to have a tank like this and rescue a betta!!!Wonderful video. I would namer her Scarlett ❤
You should!
i love what you've done for rocket! my only criticism is that you've given rocket fish tank mates that would be better suited if the tank was 15+ gallons to allow everyone to have space from each other even though this tank has great water quality which doesn't look like it'll be an issue. the snail and shrimps are great! dwarf corys would've been a better choice due to their size, and guppies only with a bigger tank, especially ones whom are reproducing. never the less rocket is gorgeous and got a great home!
Thats a beautiful set up you made for Rocket. I'd call the female "Lady" from Lady and the Tramp. 😆
Don't let uppity people get you down. You rescued that fish at that moment from a deadly fate. Take care and GO ROCKET DAD!
Go Rocket!
That is awesome!
Thanks! We take good care of him.
I thought this was common knowledge (I am literally mentally challenged please tell me people aren't dumber than me)
So are you saying that the surface movement allows more oxygen to dissolve, is that because the ripples and whatnot create much more surface area for oxygen absorption?
i feel like you are being pedantic. The bubbles cause the movement allowing the gas exchange to take place. Hence people say the bubbles add O2 to the tank. You are just being extra technical for no reason when they infact are effectively adding the 02
Awesome Video! 😮😊 this little gem popped up, and very well made. Rocket hit the jackpot and found his forever home. 🏡 thanks for sharing..
Glad you enjoyed it! Ty!

I love your video and story telling of Rocket. Thank you for sharing and saving rocket and giving him a wonderful life.

I got a Beta from petsmart like February 2019 and he died in 2023 or so. Honestly surprised how he lived so long yet still miss the hardy fella. R.I.P midnight

This was absolutely fascinating! What a lucky betta.

Thanks!
I have been satisfied.
haha
Pet shops with beta fish in cups have to get them some actual homes until ppl buy them
I don’t ever thumbs up videos but this was magical
Thank you!
My parents had a Betta named Flash. He was beautiful. Turquoise and navy blue. My mom made sure his water was always clean. 🙂
Nice
Finally another long form video
Sorry for the wait!
I love the Julie Corey cat. And Cardinal tetras. Good tank mates for the betta
You're treating your animals like that are actually your children and it's right that you named the newest fish rocket kids a firecracker
wow the breeding process is fascinating and amazing to watch

This tank is very very overstocked but it's beautiful and I'm so happy Rocket is living his best life now. ❤
Wow idk why you were recommended on my page, but I'm glad you were! What an amazing video!❤

What a lovely story! I really enjoy your style. Good work.
Thank you so much!
Red Fish should be called: Lola
Lola = tagalog of grandmother
I think its so cute how Rocket just stares at the eggs every free minute 😂
I know! he is the best dad
Thank you for caring for the fish, but don't call it a rescue when you paid a store to keep that fish in that condition.
@@sarahs.245 I think he rescued it…if not it would’ve died in that cup
This is so awesome, I'm so happy you did this for this Betta
Thank you!
Thank you for caring ❤

Wonderful! Thank you. ❤
Lovely video! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
Where are the babies going? Breeding a very already overbred species will make them hard to get rid of...
I have them in a 15 gallon tank. They are doing well and their population is under control
@@Mr.Tank713 for all the bettas??
I thought I had a good setup for my Beta, but this is way better. I didn't have cleaning shrimp or live plants. He had a few cory doras and guppies as roommates, and they all got along very well. They would all huddle together in the same corner of the temporary tank when I was cleaning their tank. I guess I could have traumatized them less if I had some cleaner shrimp.
I think her name should be cherry 🍒!!
I love to see a betta rescued from the cup dungeon.
Name her fire so they be called fire rocket❤❤😊
