Hey Lauren just a little heads up. In the video you said "people with autism" (person first language) a few times and most of us (but I don’t speak for everyone in the community) actually prefer identity-first language, such as "autistic people". I don’t want to seem rude, I’m just trying to spread awareness when I can. Thank you for the video and for speaking out about dangerous/unsafe behavior in the tattoo community. /pos
@@treacletatts I’m not autistic so I don’t speak on this particular interaction; it’s get kind of caught up in the personal preference and this is a tricky situation already optically speaking. From my perspective as a person with disabilities and a sufferer of substance use disorder and from medical ethics classes it’s akin to the prose People of color (vs the reverse 😮). I think if you aren’t sure you emphasize the (person) who then is (adjective). I will put the descriptor first just for myself when I’m dealing with financial aid or cases when I kind of want to emphasize that I am different (gurl gotta prose when he prose lol) but for others I emphasize the person because I don’t know what they prefer and everyone is just a people in the end. 😊
I have autism and ive heard that people are supposed to say “people with autism” now. Because apparently it’s offensive to say autistic person because the autism doesn’t define the person. I think it’s all stupid because it means the same thing and just say whatever you want
@@lizzymandile2022 real,, i think it applies to other ND people as well, i used to say stuff like "person with ADHD" until i got diagnosed and my mum got realll invested in the topic lol. i only found out a few years later that ADHDers prefer being called ADHDers than people with ADHD. it's a small thing but the nuance is totally different
Just throwing this out there, as someone who lives in TX and has only ever been tattooed in TX, everything is always wrapped, sanitized, the whole 9. I've been to a tattoo studio on Friday the 13th, and between every client, each artist cleaned and rewrapped their stations. This is not a TX thing, just Ariel apparently.
Same. I’m on the other end of the state from Ariel, but the studios I’ve been in down here always had everything wrapped. I’d just assume that the health code standards are the bare minimum and that any tattooist worth their salt wants to be above that mark.
It's a "abuse the system and hide the evidence when law comes" thing. Like when mom says clean your room but you didn't so you throw everything under the bed when you hear her come down the hall
@@singingsiren82 Yeah I've been tattooed in several locations around Dallas and the only furniture that I've seen cling-wrapped were the tray with the inks/needles/etc and whatever surface the body part being tattooed was sitting on. The arm wrest always gets wrapped when I'm getting an arm done, and the bench has been wrapped when I was getting my shoulder and sternum done, but otherwise they just wipe down the chair before and after I sit on it.
The cling wrap thing is insane. I work in a dental office. Imagine if I said “no, I can’t use barriers on everything. Imagine now many I would use.” IT DOESNT MATTER, YOU NEED TO COVER EVERYTHING.
@@v.e.jansen7720 steri isn’t that bad. I actually like that aspect of the job quite a bit. It’s all about teamwork and communication on what needs to go through first.
medical sanitation is the one place where plastic waste doesn't matter. We can save the planet everywhere else. We don't need to skimp when it come to blood borne pathogens and cross contamination.
Surely Texas has dollar stores, right? They sell cling film. And Texas definitely has Walmart. Point is, idk what she thinks it actually costs, but it's not much. Still, all that cleaning, wrapping, unwrapping, & re-cleaning would probably cut her tattoo time by idk an hour or two a day, and that's losing out on a whole 1 or 2 hundred dollars _and_ several Ttok videos. The horror! And for what, "client safety" and "not spreading staph & hepatitises A through E"? ↼‸↼ She is so greedy and willing to harm people to squeeze out pennies. And I just have to note cos it's been bugging me: ffs girl, GET A NEW TATTOO CHAIR OMG! ¡Que asco! (I think that was in part 1, but EWW AY NO!)
On the Stitch autism tattoo (ick) video someone commented that the outlining on his head wasn't finished and she replied 'it's okay, have an open mind' and its genuinely the most absurd response she could have written to that comment
Jesus called people "blind fools" as insults and said that if the blind lead the blind they would all fall into a ditch. Pretty mocking to me and at least looking down on them. 😒
@@JuMiKu I mean thats just the english translation. Does the original Aramaic refer to them as "blind" or is it something more generic that was just translated to "blind"?
@@Zectifin The blind leading the blind definitely. The insult I'd have to work harder to look up, which really isn't worth it to me. It was a view of the time that disability also meant moral inadequacy. That's just how it was. The expressions predate Jesus and can also be found in Roman and even Buddhist texts. So he probably grew up using them.
@JuMiKu I mean considering that being born blind was also seen as a punishment for a sin your parents committed at the time it was writen I am not surprised that got sliped it...
Her saying using that much cling film would be a waste just totally skeeved me out. What other health practices is she ignoring 😅 “Imagine if I had to use fresh needles for every client, I’d have to buy so many needles! What a waste!!” (This is hyperbole obviously but that’s where my mind went. Ew.)
Even if it wasnt for the fact that tiny fibers of her nasty sweater are getting into people's open wounds, she's still laying the same contaminated fabric that has TOUCHED SOMEONE'S BLOOD AND PLASMA onto the next 2 people??? How does she not realize how dangerous that is?
Right?? As someone who's completed a Bloodborne pathogens course for a piercing apprenticeship, you have to treat blood like a biohazard. You need to assume you will face some sort of danger when encountering someone else's fluids therefore you have to clean it while using PPE (personal protective equipment). It's not only to protect yourself, but your next client who sits in that chair. I hope she knows she can't just wipe it down. Some shops have special cleaners for that.
ALSO THE BEADS THAT EVERYONE WALKS THROUGH TO SEE THEIR TATTOOS IN THE MIRROR!!! You know those things aren’t cleaned even remotely well and everyone with a fresh open tattoo has to walk through them. Every time I see those beads it makes me sick
the last time i got tattooed, the artist changed his gloves at LEAST 14 times. i genuinely lost count. why is she acting like other artists do the same shitty practices as her omfg
Yeah last tat I got was only a couple hours… artist cleaned the table/work station… changed gloves set up work station… changed gloves… shaved he area and applied my stencil… changed gloves… unwrapped the needles and set up his machines… changed gloves… and that was before applying any ink… everytime he touched his drink or needed a little more ink he changed gloves and used a fresh ink cup (maybe changed gloves every half hour while applying ink)…
Ariel seems like the kinda person who thinks any art online is fair game.. Like most art thieves think "If you didn't want it stolen, you shouldn't have put it online."
one thing that came to mind about the whole not wrapping everything is that cling film is probably one of the cheaper things needed to tattoo, if she’s being stingy with cheaper supplies, what corners could she be cutting when it comes to the needles and ink?
I'm so glad you included an explanation for the puzzle piece. My wife is autistic. The idea that someone could be so scared or disgusted by the idea of autism that they'd rather risk terrible disease by letting their child go unvaccinated is something I cannot wrap my head around
My partner is autistic as well, and so are one of my cousins and my nephew. I love all 3 dearly, exactly as they are. And I can't imagine anyone thinking that a kid that is slightly different is in anyway worse then a kid that dies at 7 from measles. The ablism is thick and gross among the antivaxxers
My country is currently making VPH vaccines mandatory for every teen at age 11-12 (expect those who have allergies and such). And I hear people say the most obscure reasons to not do it. I am part of the first generation who got it. We know for sure, 15+ years later, it is super efficient and low risks, yet they refuse to hear it. They'd rather have their kids get higher risks of developping a cancer.
As an autistic people I agree, it is so important to spread awereness! Thanks! In my Country (BR) a lot of people still don't know about the problematic of the puzzle pieces, since there is no autism speaks here just the symbol, so a lot of autistic people use it and the others many times only recognize this on symbol for autism. Let's keep spreading knowledge ❤
I worked with autistic adults who cannot care for themselves, the exact kind of people autism speaks likes to scaremonger about, and they disgust me. Most of the adults that I worked with were some of the nicest people i've met, way nicer than most neurotypical people, especially those autism speaks supporters. (and the ones that were jerks were jerks despite their autism, not because of).
@@ZectifinI'd say this is good representation lol, I'm autistic so I may be biased but autistic people are usually pretty cool. if you look past the often present lack of finesse with our fluffy human social dances and etiquette, a lot of autistic people are quite kind, well meaning and down to earth people. Though it should also be noted there are absolutely autistic people who suck, because we're human too and humans have a pattern where.. a lot of them kinda suck. But there are lots of traits that are more common among autistic people that can make them fun, interesting or engaging to be around and chill with, or that spark unique conversation.
My artist left the industry to become a special needs teacher, but she still tattoos in her free time and mainly for friends. She tattoos from home, however she has a dedicated room that only her and her clients go into. It’s set up like a shop, it’s all hygienic and she sets up and breaks down the same way she would in a shop. So I do think there are situations where it is acceptable to tattoo at home, but it definitely should not be filmed and posted on the internet.
One of the best tattoos I ever got was in a completely similar situation. My friend's uncle had a tattoo shop in Puerto Rico. After the hurricane in 2018 his shop was destroyed and he came up to Ohio to stay with family and hustle some money up. I had a hideous purple rose that looked like a bruise, and he turned shit into gold. My cover up is one of my favorite tattoos. He had a proper bed, wrapped everything, gloves, everything 100% professional.
I think there is a difference between a home tattoo and a home tattoo studio. A lot of people have a little work space next/ in there house and thet includes doctors it's not the same as doing it in your kitchen
Oh for sure; I’ve gone to artists who tattoo out of their house but basically have a bedroom dedicated to being a mini studio. There’s perfectly fine ways of doing it but Ariel’s…well we all know her “standards” lmao
The worst thing about the puzzle piece tattoo is that she clearly KNOWS its offensive, she literally asked the client if she was offended by it before she tattooed it (the client not being aware but wanting an autism tattoo is a whole other conversation), she just doesn't care
I agree I have a nephew who's autistic and didn't know it was considered offensive. As my sister his mother wanted me to draw her an autism awareness tattoo of a heart with puzzle pieces and a banner to put his name on it to show her love and appreciation for her little boy. I can see people getting the puzzle piece if it's someone they know there close to and love but it's another thing if you're just getting it because.
@@ladycreda8326 no even if you know someone with autism you shouldn’t get a puzzle piece. It literally shows you don’t view us as a complete person. Obviously bad if you have no relation but arguably worse to pat yourself on the back for not murdering your autistic child like the 66% of other caretakers. The bar is in hell
@@mmalove98 sweetheart I love my nephew to the moon and back and view him as anyone else in this world nothing different I drew something for my sister his mother does not mean I tattooed it on her I don't tattoo I'm an artist that simply draws and paint for a living. Should of mentioned that the drawing I did was for her to send to a tattoo artist to do. Long story short she never got the piece tattooed on her but she does have the drawing hanging on the wall in her home with pictures of all her children who are very much alive and she cares for without the aid of a caretaker.
@Lady Creda it sounds like you and your sister love your nephew very much. I'm definitely critical of the client in the video, although it's obvious that Ariel is most at fault here. I simply don't believe it's responsible a) of a client and b) an artist to get/do blindfold tattoos of anything regarding a social issue, asking her midway through if she was offended by puzzle pieces was inappropriate. It should have been a planned and researched tattoo. My general rule of thumb is to make sure you understand what symbols mean before getting them permanently put onto your body. As an autistic person, seeing someone want an 'autism' tattoo while clearly not having a clue about the actual autistic community is frankly just icky.
Thank you for speaking out about autism speaks. My sister is autistic and my mother had her go through an autism speaks styled program. It was very traumatic for her because of their approach. Thank you for calling out this bs and handling it so well. It's very important information.
I’m autistic myself and my parents somewhat support them and I had to tell them the details on why they are so horrible. Thankfully I never went through one of their programs.
i’m very happy that allistic ( aka non autistic ) people are starting to speak up about the puzzle piece . thank you for using your privilege to help us lauren , as many like ariel dont ever care to listen to us edited to fix wording
Ditto! It's super common for allistic people to use our autism to dismiss us and our concerns. I'm so glad allistics are joining in on teaching this information
this, it’s so nice to see as an autistic person. whenever i see the puzzle piece i get so pissed 😰. allistic people to never listen to us or even if they do, they still barely listen us autistics. so it’s really appreciated to see people speak up alongside us
@@Kakmanmartinez666 it is , but also the puzzle piece in general has been associated with negative views on autism . you are correct , though , that autism speaks is the most well-known perpetrator of that
@@Kakmanmartinez666 It is and that is the main reason why people hate it. However, there are other reasons as well. Autism speaks has done so much wrong. Other creators on this platform have done videos on autism speaks and they are really well done.
I’m a french tattoo artist and during our sanitary licence medical professionnal actually say that its better to use high chemicals product ( virucidal/ anti-bacterial / antifungal ) on your bed rather than clean film because its not medicaly made but we can use examination sheets :) but i’m pretty sure for her its just a case of laziness !
Another note about the puzzle piece debacle: it also represents a very skewed image of autism, as it used to have the silhouette of a little boy inside. It pretty much only included the stereotype of “little boy, nonverbal, likes trains a bit too much, violent outbursts”, which actually lead to a huge chunk of autistic women like me to be completely overlooked, undiagnosed, and yelled at for asking for help when we really needed it because we could hide it really well. I spent most of high school dreaming of unaliving myself bc I was so different and didn’t make sense as a human being. Finally I was diagnosed with autism at 20, and now knowing that, I make sense. It makes sense that I want to crawl out of my skin after work/class bc of overstimulation. It makes sense that I can predict what will happen in a show/movie with alarming detail but I can’t for the life of me “read between the lines” when someone is communicating. It makes sense that my teachers have always commented on my abilities rising above the class average yet expressing concern for my social skills. It finally made sense why I felt like I was putting on an act all week to pretend to be normal, just to collapse by Friday and want to crawl in a hole and not talk to anyone for the weekend bc i just didn’t have the energy to act normal any more. It felt like the last piece of a puzzle clicking into place, making me a complete person, a person worthy of love and respect. It hurt so bad to find out organizations like AutismSpeaks want to use eugenics to eliminate autism, which is absolutely bonkers considering some of the greatest minds, greatest inventors, greatest contributors to society have been autistic or retroactively diagnosed as such. But no, they don’t have the capacity to think about the really neat aspects of the autistic brain and the advantages it has over the neurotypical brain, all they see is how “inconvenient” it is for a child to have a meltdown in public because the lights in the grocery store going BZZZZT and the squeaking wheels and constant beeping gives them a sensory overload. Even with all the cool aspects of autism, I’m still perfectly comfortable recognizing it as a disability, but mostly because the world was not built with autism in mind. Sometimes it’s something as simple as switching to natural light as opposed to fluorescent lighting that can level the playing field, and they think we’re so massively inconvenient that we shouldn’t have existed in the first place?? Gross. Just gross.
I love this entire explanation. I think most people are unaware and would also likely refuse to acknowledge that neurodiversity (the presence of a variety of different kinds of brains) is actually a positive development or trait of human evolution which IS advantageous. They would probably only acknowledge when it's on the smallest level, not to the degree that we see large differences between for example, those who are autistic and those who are not.
Also, um...DCS (Department of Child Services) doesn't mind her 11 year old tattooing/essentially performing a surgical procedure on a person without having any education or Red Cross certification? As a mother and tattoo enthusiast myself...I don't think she is providing a safe environment for her child or her clients. SMH! No, she needs to find a new career path, and she needs to take some parenting classes too! No place tattooing in my opinion. Second chances are for people that display remorse. She has shown none.😤😡🤬
Isn’t this also considered as child labor ? Idk the law but even if the kid was somehow certified trained followed all safety rules was a formidable artist etc… I don’t think it is legal to make a child work especially in your place and without surveillance / letting the gestion of a shop to them while you are gone. And if it’s legal it has to be declared and controlled in some ways ? Even in the us there must be laws about child labor especially when the child is in fact not making money for themselves but in the place of their parents that were too occupied or bored to properly do their job or something like that.
Why in the hell would you leave your 11 year child alone with a stranger? She could have been hurt in so many horrible ways. She could have been taken & never been found. There are a lot of sick people in the world!!
First off- the deep red hair is stunning with your coloring! Also, as an American yes our healthcare is VERY expensive, and we are dependent on our employers to get health insurance. Because of this I know lots of people (including myself) who have made lifestyle changes to avoid illness, pregnancy, and injury. It’s much cheaper to get a well done professional tattoo than it is to stay in a hospital and be treated for sepsis, I promise.
Also- I live in a better funded “blue state”, Texas is literally the Wild West. They have some nice giant hospitals, but everything is way far apart and the state infrastructure is poorly funded. Even where I am I have seen people turn down treatment for gunshot wounds and broken bones here because of the price.
I got sterilized to avoid pregnancy. I mean we do have special Medicaid for pregnant people and children, but sometimes if you make "too much" they'll take away your insurance. I have a coworker who's going thru this and she didn't qualify for a certain insurance to pay for medication bc she makes "too much". And we work fast food. It's not even liveable income lol. I have to live with family because there's no way I can afford an apartment let alone medical treatment. I got a huge scare last year because they found a lump in my breast and I had no insurance for a mammogram or specialists.
@@whitalleys5893I live in Texas and this is very true. I live in a city the size of Pittsburg, yet to get many surgeries or treatments, people here have to go to Houston, San Antonio or Austin. That’s a 3-4 hour drive away. When I had surgery for endometriosis, a fairly simple surgery, I had to go to San Antonio. Soon I’ll have to have spine surgery and I’ll need to go to either San Antonio or Austin for that. For my hysterectomy I could only go to one hospital locally because the other 3 hospitals are Catholic-owned and won’t do that surgery unless you’re dying. When my dad retired, he was living near Fort Worth, but he decided to move simply because the healthcare options for what he needed sucked in DFW. People literally do move just because of the healthcare or lack thereof. And that’s with it still being exorbitantly expensive everywhere.
I literally asked an artist if I could use their art as a reference for the concept I wanted. Like “hey I really like this concept you drew, would it be okay if I took this to my tattoo artist as a reference for a tattoo?” and they said yes! I wouldn’t have gotten it otherwise, but it was so easy to just ask! I even showed my artist proof of the artist’s consent because I didn’t wanna come off as like a thief or something omg. And yes, I showed the original artist and they were so excited that someone got something inspired by their work tattooed on them. But it’s. okay if an artist says no, too! As an artist myself, I would be so uncomfortable with someone using my work without permission.
It's so easy to ask! I have a tattoo that is heavily inspired by art I found online, and I did the same thing you did. I DMd the artist and said I really liked it and asked if they'd be ok with me getting it tattooed. Had they said no I wouldn't have gotten the tattoo, plain and simple. But they said yes, so I took the photo to my artist and got the tattoo, it looks great and I love it, I sent the artist a photo and they loved it too. It's really easy to be nice and just ask the original artist if it's ok. And that it's also ok for them to say "no, I'm not comfortable with that"!
I've had someone "jokingly" admit if they really wanted my artwork on them they would do it anyway. And as the artist I told them it would make me highly uncomfortable if they got pieces especially ones I liked and would possibly turn into tattoos for myself that I'd never ever want to match with someone like that at least.....person had to be talked down from using my stuff even though I expressed I told them no 😅 Asking is so easy and idk why some people get mad when. The answer to a question is no
I ❤ when people tattoo my art, especially if they post and tag me. I always say yes if asked. However, the difference in this situation is that an established creator is misrepresenting other artist’s work as her own.
OMG that Wednesday Addams tatt is awful. I would be gutted if this is what was permanently on my skin. I agree thE HEALTH AND SAFETY violations just wouldn’t stand here in the UK. Sending love to you Lauren 💜💜💜x
I don't even clean my house with long sleeves, I can't imagine how unsanitary she is day to day if she's comfortable getting other people's tattoo gunk all over her clothes, never mind spreading it to other people.
THIS IS THE FIRST THING I THOUGHT ABOUT. imagine her sweater brushing over a fresh open wound and then the dried remnants of that brushing over another fresh open wound but on someone else ????? i don’t get how she’s still out there tattooing. so disgusting and dangerous!
as someone with autism i had absolutely no idea about the issues with the puzzle piece so thank you for putting that part and going into depth about how harmful it is, i’ve learned a new thing today haha
As someone that has been getting tattooed since 1987 and worked in the industry for over 28 years, cross-contamination prevention has evolved greatly. Many of the regulations written for Tattooing and PIercing are outdated or the absolute bare minimum when it comes to public safety. As artists have become more educated uses of barriers, multiple glove changes, how we go about setting up, processing equipment and contaminated items, and sterilization have become standards. However, if you have someone that simply doesn't see the point of continuing their education, or researching their art, they tend to do the bare minimum to obtain a license and see no point in wasting money on making their studio, their clients, and themselves safer. The reality is that an artist is going to be the one that is going to have the most contact with these contaminated items and is most likely to be infected. The worst-case scenario is that they contract hepatitis B or C. Which could put them, their family, their friends, their clients, and everyone they come in contact with at risk. Consider that Hep B & C can live outside of the body for at least 7 days. Then consider the number of times those in the studio could come in contact with that contaminated surface. Now think about the 11-year-old and the fact that they have more than likely been in that studio their whole life and what they have come in contact with. This is why you shouldn't trust your health to unclean artists because they don't even value their own health.
If you’re up for it, look up the Autism Speaks commercial called “I Am Autism”. It’ll show you AS’s view of Autism and why they’re so reviled in the neurodivergent community. Imagine being an autistic kid (or adult) when that ad was on tv all the time.
Normally, I would agree with you on people deserving a second chance, but Ariel's been doing this for OVER A DECADE? Yeah, no. Her chances have come and gone. She needs to be shut down for good. Lovely video, btw, I'm always really grateful to see how polite and respectful you are about people and certain subjects.
So I’m a diabetic and have to do very extensive research into any and all shops that I go to. That being said, the shop I went to who did my biggest tattoo wrapped everything, opened newly wrapped supplies in front of me, and even did research on type 1 diabetes before I came in. He had never tattooed a diabetic before, but he made sure to walk me through the supplies and his cleaning process. I have never had an issue with my tattoo I got from him, and he was incredible. (Granted this was in Nashville, but STILL) So I know a ton about how things are supposed to be done. (Not an expert but I know more than the average person). So I can point out that she’s doing so many things wrong. But also, the health department most times can be paid off, or they’ll stand there while you fix things and watch you fix them, then give you a higher score.
As someone from the DFW area in TX, I am so happy that I had never actually heard of Ariel until your videos. I'm sure I might have come across her while searching for shops but her work is sooooo bad that I would have dismissed her without even learning her name. To answer your question about what's going on in Texas... well lmao... our government is too busy worrying about women's bodily autonomy and drag performances than actual things that are harming people in this state so lmao. Anyway, she probably really is bribing the local health inspector and that's why she's never getting held accountable for the shit she is pulling, and I really really hope someday soon she gets a reality check because this is genuinely so terrifying.
Thank you for using your platform to talk about the problem of the use of the puzzle piece. I am autistic, and it means a lot to me that you talked about it. Thank you
Honestly this video is so helpful for people to see. I've never gotten a tattoo (i grew up in a very Anti-Tattoo family) so I wouldn't have known any of this information, but I am thinking about getting a tattoo in the near future. So to be able to know what is correct or not or knowing that what Ariel is doing is harmful is really helpful. You have now given me the knowledge to be able to walk into a tattoo parlor and know when basic hygiene isn't being followed, so thank you.
So thankful my tattoo artist observed all health protocols- everything wrapped, washing hands and putting on fresh gloves after breaks, and her apprentice commented on changing gloves because they touched the trash can. Would rather go to a place like this any day than infection city.
She originally had it up without the original art and got hate comments so bad she took it down and re-uploaded it WITH the original art she traced next to it- like she thought it would make it better 🤣 hate comments got so bad she just turned comments off
I sincerely appreciate you for speaking up about the puzzle piece. I’m autistic and it means a lot to see an allistic person spread awareness about it. Thank you🖤
I think you said it in your last video but she's taking advantage of "poor" people. She knows she can't charge the going rate because her work is not good enough.
OMG that fuzzy sweater dragging across fresh tattoos... the thought makes me wanna hurl! SO so unsanitary! Its easy enough to do things the right way, but apparently it's not easy enough for her to admit she is wrong. There are so many other good artists and good shops in the Fort Worth area, I can't imagine why anyone would get tattooed by her.
What gets me is that she's proud of never apprenticing and proud of how much she rushes tattoos. Which funnily enough she uploaded a tiktok today claiming she doesn't rush, she just wants her clients not to "have to sit for hours while someone tweaks on their arm and take multiple smoke breaks" she's delusional
Call me crazy but if something is going to be on my body for the rest of my life, I'd rather someone take their time so it's done properly. I've sat through eight hour sessions with gratitude.
i have loved your vids on ariel bc i have been horrified by her practices for MONTHS. and as an autistic person, it made my heart sing hearing you talk so in depth about why the puzzle piece is offensive. it really does just take a few mins of research -- thank you for helping to educate your audience. ❤️
25:50 Also the blue color of a puzzle represents autism as "boys" illness and erases autistic women, puzzle piece was also mean to fill the hole in autistic person as if there's something "missing" in our existence.
Man the more i learn about her the more i appreciate my tattoo artist , im gonna bring him some extra chocolate for being awesome when i see him in a few days
@@TuberoseKisser It is absolutely the most perfect thing to be petty about. I giggled so hard because I hadn't even thought of it but it's so true. It just adds a perfect cherry to the massive shit sundae of how bad the whole Ariel situation really is.
I just think that second chances are for people who want and try to change. You can give all the guidance and help to a person, but if they don't want to recognize their wrongs and grow from it, they are not entitled to people giving them another chance. Also, at least to me, all the reasonable doubt I could have on Ariel got out the window the second she left her UNDER AGE DAUGHTER ALONE IN AN ADULT ESTABLISHMENT PERFORMING ARTISTIC WOUNDING WITH A COMPLETE STRANGER
Love how when making a response tiktok Ariel can’t stop staring at herself and focusing more on her hair and face rather than what’s she’s actually saying
small thing I can't help but notice, but she seemed pretty good at wearing gloves and using cling film when tattooing *herself* in that montage of all the tattoos she did on herself...
Even if she used a WHOLE roll of click wrap for EVERY single tattoo it would only be a few dollars added to the overall cost... thanks for your videos!
I’m on the Autism spectrum, and have a puzzle piece tattoo to represent it. I got it prior to hearing about the issues with Autism Speaks and the negative connection as a symbol. For myself I don’t mind the puzzle piece being used because for MYSELF my diagnosis helped to explain so much, and things fit into place (like a puzzle piece) so I hold no resentment for it as a symbol; however I can completely understand why others within the community do have an issue nowadays, and would never hold that against them. However, Ariel’s reactions to completely disregard those who were commenting that it was offensive (from the sounds of it about 99%) Sometimes there can be misunderstandings, but blatantly ignoring and disregarding information being provided is not on.
Watching your video and I am so thankful for you taking the time to talk about autism and the stigmatization around it. I love your videos and never comment but I just felt the need to say “thank you!” Your awesome Lauren!
Sadly, Autism Speaks still has a strong hold over folks. I still remember the day my ex roommate/ friend sent me a video of a police interrogation where the two criminals were autistic. She wanted to get my opinion since I was diagnosed with autism as well. She then proceeded to tell me that autistic people were the reason America was going down the crapper and that they (being autistic folks) need to kill3d…. Yeah, then in the same breath she said I was “one of the good ones.” She and I had been friends for 10 years up to that point and she knew I had autism for most of it. She got most of her knowledge of autism from me and autism speaks. I can’t even tell my employers that I have ASD because in the past I have been bullied out of my job or fired from my job despite having good working relationships and good evaluations… but that didn’t matter as soon as they found out I had ASD, it was like a switch was flipped in their head and they no longer saw me as a capable person. Another thing… back when I was in school, the only education folks got regarding autism was from Autism Speaks… it perpetuated a lot of harmful stereotypes that are still alive today.
I’m autistic and tattoos are a special interest for me. I’ve been aware of Ariel for a while (since I saw that god awful hello kitty ice cream one), and it really hurts my heart when people say things like she did about autism and puzzle pieces! Thank you for making these videos about her and bringing awareness of the issues she creates or partakes in
I am gobsmacked. I was hoping health inspectors would shut her down, but they were like -- yeah she sprays her dirty nasty falling apart tattoo bed after every client: Looks good to us! *But the lack of gloves!* Nah, all up to code. *but the carpet jumper dragging through fresh tattoos* Nothing to see here, moving on! Like --- HOW???? But to end on a positive note -- you look so good! 😍 I always look forward to seeing your looks for the videos and you deliver. Gorgeous!
Not to diminish the excellent and thoughtful reflections you've included on all the serious topics in this (which were truly wonderful and very appreciated!!!)... but I sure love salty Lauren
I'm glad you make ppl aware of ppl like her. It's the fact that most places contact them & let them know they're doin an Inspection. So It gives her time to clean up before they do It. So till someone does a surprise Investigation she can continue.
Lauren, thanks so much for being the regular cosy end to my day. Watching you I've learnt so much about the tattoo process. So much so, that I recently went out and got my first tattoo. I wasn't aware of the offensive context behind the puzzle piece symbol, thank you for enlightening me on that! Edited for typos!
Asking the client if she was "offended by puzzle pieces" is SOOOOOOO manipulative oml. That's like tattooing someone, asking if they're "offended by flags" and when they say no, tattooing a swastika flag on them. You know damn well what you were doing, lady.
I remember the "autism speaks" campaigns. I don't remember the last one you mentioned. I do remember though when it came out that the puzzle piece was offensive and painful. It's been quite a while since we have been informed of the negativity of the puzzle piece.
I can say, I've gotten tattoos from multiple people in Texas and they don't cling wrap any of the chairs, though they do clean it between each person. I've been tattooed at 5 different shops, 6 different artists varying from apprentice to tattooing for 20 years, 14 tattoos. Never an issue.
I live in Canada and have never been to a shop where they cling film the chair.. the shop I get most of my work done is wonderful and play by the rules and they don’t wrap any of their chairs, but they do cling wrap the arm rest. They do sanitize everything between clients though.
It's normal not to cling wrap big pieces of tattoo furniture. In my state they only cling wrap arm rests and other small pieces of tattoo furniture, as well. They'll sometimes put wraps down on the bed if they think it will be a messy tattoo but it's not a requirement. I've been getting tattooed for 11 years in multiple states, as well.
Yeah, I had a look and it seems Ariel was right on that, at least. There's nothing in the licensing aw about it. So as long as she cleans thoroughly in between thatxs up to her, I uess. Though the sleeve dragging across fresh tattoos and that she told peoplemthey could use Dawn dish soap to clean their fresh tattoos... leads me to question whether she can be trusted to be cleaning properly.
Why do glitter tattoos make me unbelievably nervous? And why do they look itchy? Also, as an autistic woman, the puzzle piece thing is something that grinds my gears. There's nothing wrong with us, our brains just work differently.
Thank you for doing these videos. And all your videos, really. But these ones are especially important! And thank you for your ongoing kindness and inclusiveness (notably on the autism issue, but also in general). Yes, folks notice, and yes, it means a lot. 💖
Canadian here! In my tattoo experience chairs aren't wrapped but they are sanitized before someone gets in the chair and after they get out of it. I'm not defending Ariel because fuk her, I just wanted to chime in about the chairs. My artist is extremely sanitary and does so without wrapping the chairs. Hope this was informative 🤙
my best friends regular tattoo artist isn't a fulltime artist anymore, he has a chair at a studio locally, that he uses on the weekends. But sometimes during the week he does a short session in his home. HOWEVER. He has a room dedicated to the craft. the only things in that room are what he needs and it's cleaned/sanitized before and after every session. and the only people he brings in are people hes worked with for years.
I'm actually from Texas and I live 45 minutes from the shop I have had to stop multiple of my friends who are looking to get their first tattoo done from going to her shop and her personally due to I being older with many tattoos and have suffered at the hands of an artist like this I s when my chest tattoo got horrendously infected and me being blamed in the end, I send all of them to my artist to get wonderful work done in a clean, professional, and calming environment to stop them from getting something they will regret no matter how much they wanted the ink on them or risking a infection.... not wrapping anything in plastic and putting your nasty hands on a fresh tat is a hell to the no for me and anyone with tattoos
There should be like a guild of tattoo artists, you only get to tattoo if the guild approves. There are just waaay too many dipsh*ts out there who got a machine from wish and "apprenticed" by watching two youtube videos before going hogwild on their kitchen table.
Aside from the fact that Ariel obviously knows by now that the puzzle piece is offensive yet still continues to tattoo it, a disturbing part for me is that whenever someone requests a tattoo representing autism she automatically thinks of the puzzle piece. There is other imagery she could use, but she can't separate the word autism from the puzzle piece symbol. Also, I firmly believe that once she realized it offended people, she decided to keep tattooing it because it would get her the views; making it clear that not only does she not care about the autistic community, but she also doesn't care about the client she is branding with what is essentially a hate symbol. The only thing she cares about is that people are talking about her and watching her videos. I have a strong feeling this is why she does all the problematic things she does. As soon as she hears what not to do, she knows doing it will get her the attention she craves.
This is why I draw my own tattoos to give to my tattoo artist makes me appreciate each piece knowing no else has it I'll be upset if someone stole my work...in the past I have reached out to other artists who's work I wanted tatted but ended up not getting it done because they never reached back to me with a yes or no answer
Amazing video! Was hoping you’d make more parts to this! Thank you for all the time you’ve put into bringing awareness to this issue! I appreciate everything you do! Love & light!
honestly, I think it's really interesting to hear all of the tattoo rules and how she's breaking them because at least now i know what to look out for at my next appointment! also I like it when ding dongs get called out so definitely not beating a dead horse!
I very much appreciate you using your platform to touch on the puzzle piece and its significance. It’s so frustrating the amount of people who, even after having this explained to them, will completely disregard my feelings like I didn’t just say what I said. 🤞🏾
Somehow I feel like Ariel has yet to convince you of her skill and dedication to basic tattoo hygiene. 🤔 I was sure things would escalate with this video and you didn't disappoint! 😂 Thank you for crawling through all that awful material to bring us another video!
I work in healthcare. I don’t have an issue with not having a wrap on surfaces as long as they are sanitised between patients. But her couch was falling apart with visible stuffing. I don’t see how you can sanitise that appropriately.
Wow I just watched part 1 yesterday! (catching up on previous week's videos form you). Edit: Maybe the 'advertisement' she is referring to is actually her TikTok videos. More people going to her account to watch her videos = more engagement = more money from it. Probably not what she meant, but it is something to think about. (This is why after watching your part 1 I didn't go to her TikTok).
@@paniknanikin I am not aware of TikTok monetization (and I'm sure she meant advertisement for her shop) but regardless if we all flock to her account to watch her videos we still are giving her exposure
I have watched Tabatha taking over salons and guiding some pretty awful stylists sometimes. If she can get through to them, if they actually care and put in the work, they can become quite successful. So would a mentor help? Possibly. But it depends entirely on her attitude, accountability and willingness to learn. 🤷🏼♀️
Aw, this could be a sweet TV show or YT series if well-done (like the early Kitchen Nightmares episodes that were set in the UK- even though i don't enjoy watching Gordon Ramsey on TV, that was a wholesome show.) I'd definitely watch Tattoo Shop Rescue with Lauren as a co-host. xD
My thing is. People have tried to educate her and she's rejected every bit of advice and information they've tried to give her. You can't help someone who refuses to help themselves. A second chance is wasted on a closed mind.
Not to harp on the autism puzzle piece bit but I wanted to note that the puzzle piece was kind of offensive from the start if you look into the origins. Not only is it representative of us being "puzzling" but was also intended to imply that we have a "piece missing" that needed to be fixed. Please y'all, even if you have the best intentions, do research before using symbols of groups you're not a part of. It could have been easily avoided if she actually cared
I will just say that I have a moderately Autistic daughter and I can assure you that Autism can profoundly disable people, including my daughter. It has made her life extraordinarily difficult, it has made her dad and I's life difficult, and while there can be some perks to having Autism at times, I would give anything to take Autism away from my daughter and she would do the same. She is fully verbal, and is very aware that she is Autistic. Trying to help her make friends, calling people on the weekend to see if their children might play with mine (she's 13) having countless meetings and emails with her school to help her succeed when she has virtually no ability to stay organized and forgets any assignments that she had to do immediately after leaving each class because of her sensory issues...sigh. SOME Autistic people may celebrate their Autism and SOME Autistic people may have very mild Autism that doesn't affect everything about their lives, but to gloss over the severe disability that Autism can bring a person really frustrates me. My daughter cannot get dental x-rays and can barely brush her teeth without gagging, she has very limited foods that she will eat, and it breaks my heart to see her struggle like this. To me, it's insensitive to pretend that Autism is a gift for everyone and "just a difference" because for my Autistic daughter, it has been much more of a curse. It has affect her mental health, her motor skills, her social skills, her organization skills, each of her 5 senses are affected, and just like someone wouldn't celebrate having bipolar disorder or psychosis as just being "different" and that there is nothing wrong that needs special treatment is just not true for everybody.
I have a few tattoos that are drawings I found on the internet-that I reached out to the artist and offered to pay for use of the design. Then I take it to a tattoo artist who I also pay to put the work on me. Then I send the picture to the artist so they can see the final product.
I wouldn’t ever get a tattoo from her!! 😮 Just watched an older video of yours with the tattoo “student” Tom Scott I believe. That was the cutest and best tattoo video ever!! I’d let Tom tattoo me instead. ❤ Great video as always Lauren! ❤
I love Lauren for showing us tattoo artists like this. The fact that she goes deeply into the artist and their work so that we can see what crazy shit some artist do. This Ariel girl is fucking crazy😵
/pos
Ah I do apologise, thank you for letting me know and will make sure to say this in the future ❤️
@@treacletatts I didn’t even know that this wasn’t great language until I found out I was autistic lol so I don’t blame you
@@treacletatts I’m not autistic so I don’t speak on this particular interaction; it’s get kind of caught up in the personal preference and this is a tricky situation already optically speaking.

I bet she truly is lol because her tattoos are garbage and all copies of other tattoos.

I was about to say the same thing. I've been to a few studios on TX (different cities) and they've always had the tables wrapped.
Same. I’m on the other end of the state from Ariel, but the studios I’ve been in down here always had everything wrapped.
I’d just assume that the health code standards are the bare minimum and that any tattooist worth their salt wants to be above that mark.
Strange, I've been to multiple shops around the dfw area and they do not cling wrap their chairs.
Yeah it's also exhausting to clean all the dental instruments in a dental office. But I think and hope they do it anyways haha

On the Stitch autism tattoo (ick) video someone commented that the outlining on his head wasn't finished and she replied 'it's okay, have an open mind' and its genuinely the most absurd response she could have written to that comment

“Again I’m not a big Jesus expert but I don’t think he was a fan of mocking the disabled.” Is a BAR

Same place my mind went.
Mine too. 🤢
yeah because shes suuuuuch an environmentalist. lol.
exactly. like if it’s such a big problem get the cling film that restaurants get
Even if it wasnt for the fact that tiny fibers of her nasty sweater are getting into people's open wounds, she's still laying the same contaminated fabric that has TOUCHED SOMEONE'S BLOOD AND PLASMA onto the next 2 people??? How does she not realize how dangerous that is?
Right?? As someone who's completed a Bloodborne pathogens course for a piercing apprenticeship, you have to treat blood like a biohazard. You need to assume you will face some sort of danger when encountering someone else's fluids therefore you have to clean it while using PPE (personal protective equipment). It's not only to protect yourself, but your next client who sits in that chair. I hope she knows she can't just wipe it down. Some shops have special cleaners for that.
She has had multiple chances. People trying to help. She doesn't think she is doing anything wrong. And she does not care.

Yeah last tat I got was only a couple hours… artist cleaned the table/work station… changed gloves set up work station… changed gloves… shaved he area and applied my stencil… changed gloves… unwrapped the needles and set up his machines… changed gloves… and that was before applying any ink… everytime he touched his drink or needed a little more ink he changed gloves and used a fresh ink cup (maybe changed gloves every half hour while applying ink)…

one thing that came to mind about the whole not wrapping everything is that cling film is probably one of the cheaper things needed to tattoo, if she’s being stingy with cheaper supplies, what corners could she be cutting when it comes to the needles and ink?
oh shit I didn’t even think about that 😮
Seriously. I wouldn’t doubt this woman is reusing needles.

I went down the tiktok rabbit hole of her content after the first video so I totally get the watching a car wreck being unable to look away 😂
@@bestaqua23 Yes exactly home tattoo =/= home studio
I went through one of their programs as well and still have ptsd symptoms from it nearly twenty years later

I’m autistic myself and my parents somewhat support them and I had to tell them the details on why they are so horrible. Thankfully I never went through one of their programs.

You're also probably not laying down your clients on a cracked and torn bed with that nice, porous upholstery foam exposed haha.
Gross. Just gross.
💯💯💯
I love this entire explanation. I think most people are unaware and would also likely refuse to acknowledge that neurodiversity (the presence of a variety of different kinds of brains) is actually a positive development or trait of human evolution which IS advantageous. They would probably only acknowledge when it's on the smallest level, not to the degree that we see large differences between for example, those who are autistic and those who are not.
*BRAVO*.
Everything about your short essay is dead on.
Texas is trying to roll back some child labor laws anyhow. So it'll probably not be illegal for long.
Maybe she's bribing the DCS.

And as the artist I told them it would make me highly uncomfortable if they got pieces especially ones I liked and would possibly turn into tattoos for myself that I'd never ever want to match with someone like that at least.....person had to be talked down from using my stuff even though I expressed I told them no 😅
Asking is so easy and idk why some people get mad when. The answer to a question is no
I ❤ when people tattoo my art, especially if they post and tag me. I always say yes if asked. However, the difference in this situation is that an established creator is misrepresenting other artist’s work as her own.
@@scarletsletter4466 yeah to a fellow artist it's just all about consent / asking permission and respecting that

I learned a thing. I had no clue that the puzzle piece was offensive, nor did I know about the troubling happenings of the organization. Note taken 📝
(Granted this was in Nashville, but STILL)
So I know a ton about how things are supposed to be done.
Thank you
❤️❤️❤️
Oh my god she really showed the artwork that she stole like on her own tiktok??? Is she proud that she's stealing?
right my jaw dropped like ??? usually people who are stealing art are sneaky enough to not show the original art in their post lol🙄🤦🏻♀️
It means so much to me as an autistic viewer that you're speaking up about the problematic symbolism behind the puzzle piece.💜💜
25:50 Also the blue color of a puzzle represents autism as "boys" illness and erases autistic women, puzzle piece was also mean to fill the hole in autistic person as if there's something "missing" in our existence.

How dare she put glitter on Wednesday?! Doesn't she care about her very serious allergic reactions to anything joyful and fun 😱😂
The fact that that is what you chose to be petty about.
@@TuberoseKisser Hey, I found one! Look guys, someone who doesn't get humor! 😃
@@TuberoseKisser It is absolutely the most perfect thing to be petty about. I giggled so hard because I hadn't even thought of it but it's so true. It just adds a perfect cherry to the massive shit sundae of how bad the whole Ariel situation really is.

Good thing it looks nothing like glitter.
Ariel gives off "Live, Laugh, Love" vibes ngl
I was JUST having a conversation with my artist about this! Funny timing 😂 I hope you’re doing good Lauren ☺️
I love your videos and never comment but I just felt the need to say “thank you!” Your awesome Lauren!
literally got a tattoo YESTERDAY and my artist had a giant box of Food grade cling wrap to cover his tray and the arm rest
This. Across multiple artists, they've all had industrial size rolls of cling wrap. It's something that they bulk buy as they know they go through it.
Thank you for making these videos about her and bringing awareness of the issues she creates or partakes in
I absolutely can't stand her. That wouldn't fly in my state with the kid.
You look amazing. The more I see the red, the more I LOVE it ♡
Tysm lovely 🥹❤️
I was thinking, I'm sure I recognise that name and then remembered it was because you did a part one 🤪
Gorgeous!
Thank you for explaining the puzzle piece. I actually had no idea and I learned something. I appreciate you going over that.
Not to diminish the excellent and thoughtful reflections you've included on all the serious topics in this (which were truly wonderful and very appreciated!!!)... but I sure love salty Lauren
As a tattoo artist I was unaware of the puzzle piece history. I really appreciate being informed. Thank you.
I'm glad you make ppl aware of ppl like her. It's the fact that most places contact them & let them know they're doin an Inspection. So It gives her time to clean up before they do It. So till someone does a surprise Investigation she can continue.
She’s starting to make me believe that maybe practice doesn’t make perfect
She clearly knows what the puzzle piece means cause she asked if the woman was offended by it and to ask that she must know of the meaning behind it
Lauren, thanks so much for being the regular cosy end to my day.
Thank you for adding the disclaimer to skip the article and the time stamp ❤❤❤
Skipped that bit
In Indiana, they only cling film the arm rests, too. My artist goes above and beyond with cleaning and hygiene too.
Same. Some shops use cling wrap but others don't. All my tattoos are perfectly fine and fully healed without issues.
Same. I've had unwrapped, medical grade wrap, cling wrap, and a garbage bag, all licensed shops in Canada 😅.
my best friends regular tattoo artist isn't a fulltime artist anymore, he has a chair at a studio locally, that he uses on the weekends. But sometimes during the week he does a short session in his home. HOWEVER. He has a room dedicated to the craft. the only things in that room are what he needs and it's cleaned/sanitized before and after every session. and the only people he brings in are people hes worked with for years.
hey lauren! you look great today and i hope you’re doing well! 💕
I’m very well thank you!! I hope you are too ❤️
I'm actually from Texas and I live 45 minutes from the shop I have had to stop multiple of my friends who are looking to get their first tattoo done from going to her shop and her personally due to I being older with many tattoos and have suffered at the hands of an artist like this I s when my chest tattoo got horrendously infected and me being blamed in the end, I send all of them to my artist to get wonderful work done in a clean, professional, and calming environment to stop them from getting something they will regret no matter how much they wanted the ink on them or risking a infection.... not wrapping anything in plastic and putting your nasty hands on a fresh tat is a hell to the no for me and anyone with tattoos

Texas, Oklahoma & Missouri don't all cling wrap beds, they get sprayed down. I've never seen a bed wrapped.
I was sure things would escalate with this video and you didn't disappoint!

Thank you so much for doing this! It has been going on for a year of me calling her out and it's only getting worse.
I've been tattooed in Wyoming and Florida (US), and the chairs were not wrapped in cling film. The artist wiped them down between clients.

I have watched Tabatha taking over salons and guiding some pretty awful stylists sometimes. If she can get through to them, if they actually care and put in the work, they can become quite successful.
So would a mentor help? Possibly. But it depends entirely on her attitude, accountability and willingness to learn. 🤷🏼♀️
Aw, this could be a sweet TV show or YT series if well-done (like the early Kitchen Nightmares episodes that were set in the UK- even though i don't enjoy watching Gordon Ramsey on TV, that was a wholesome show.) I'd definitely watch Tattoo Shop Rescue with Lauren as a co-host. xD
I love how she had this 5 minute 'clap back' and ignore that she doesn't wear gloves when working with a stranger's BLOOD.
Just watched an older video of yours with the tattoo “student” Tom Scott I believe. That was the cutest and best tattoo video ever!! I’d let Tom tattoo me instead. ❤
