I’m 5th generation Montanan. My grandfather sold our farm and me and my dad are starting to get back into it. Good on you for keeping the legacy going.
Most people don't understand the sacrifice our ranchers make nor the love for the rural life. The only place I ever found peace was on my horse in the wide open spaces.
I am a young Frenchman from the countryside. I'm not a farmer's son, and there's no ranch here, but I grew up in the country and those are my roots. I must admit that I discovered the ranching life thanks to Yellowstone, but the simplicity and authenticity of this way of life is very dear to me. I envy your freedom, the freedom to do what you love. Here in France, you can't have your own land. Even if you buy it, it will always belong to the state. Whether you're a landlord, a farmer, or whatever you want and you can’t do what you want on it. I dream of a simple life like yours, even though I know it's hard. Nothing is more authentic, nothing is truer than to have your own land, to work it, whether as a farmer or a rancher, and to support your family or the country. I envy you and I hope that God will give me the opportunity one day to live a life like I want to live, with its ups and downs, but simple and authentic like yours. Thank you for what you are doing in your life. God bless you and your family
As a Montanan, though I’m not a rancher, I really appreciate this family and their work and dedication to their way of life and supplying great beef to all Americans. God bless you, and the entire family. Enjoy the good times and hang in there in the tough.
Even people that eat beef don’t appreciate the work and effort that goes into raising cattle. I want to say thank you to all of the people that raise cattle and I appreciate the work you do.
Perhaps, the best ranchin docu on TH-cam; extremely well produced. I’ve got tears streaming down my face, and I started singing along to the bloodline song. Extremely powerful exceptional, and the last verse was very strong about the son
I'm only a third generation mid wife to cows since the late 1800s . Ranching is all I can ever do. It's all a fight to keep land, health and support. You showed the most truthful reality ever.
I was never a rancher or lived this life but i grew up in Aurora, Colorado and i absolutely LOVE their lifestyle and their the contributions. When i had my own kids i made sure to teach them about these great folks through books, museums taking them to actually watch in person now they're absolutely obsessed with cowboys and what they do.
The direction this country is going is sickening…we need MORE folks like this family! We need more ranchers! More people working for a honest living, doing something meaningful with their life. God Bless the ranchers
💯 agree! We also need more people to want to learn where their food really comes from. Buying grass fed grass finished meat can be a bit more affordable, be way healthier, and keep money in the local community when buying local.
Wonderful overview of what it takes to get-er-done. Hope this stays in your family. There are those of us who "were there". We look back on those times with reverence and thankfulness that my sister and I had that for a brief time. GodSpeed Christensens!!
Phenomenal video! You folks are incredible!! Ranching has been my life long dream. I come from farming and livestock country. I've always understood that it's not glamorous and it's lots of hard work and uncertainty. Keep up the great work! God is good!
Only want American beef. From the American rancher. Thank you sir, for all that you do, and your family does. From an equine enthusiast in North Carolina
My family, last name Newby, came to Montana to Homestead in the 1890s. They built a ranch over the years and watched the town of Chinook develop from the ground up.
My 17 year old daughter decided that she is meant to raise cattle. She just bought her starter herd and is actually doing it. I'm awfully proud of her. Thats one hell of a career.
We live in ranch country. We aren't ranchers ourselves. God bless and honor our ranchers. They spend their lives feeding ALL of us! Stay strong and tough, USA Ranchers!!! 🎉 ❤🎉
Ranchers are very important for every society, social stability, economic and environmental relevance, the problem is when a country give a lot subsidies and this subsidies provoke a huge cheap exportable production , and that production desestabilize other markets ,, I belive the agricultural sector of every country need help, but do not export subsidized products , cause ruin other ranchers and farms that do no recived those financial help ,,, rancher and farmer are part of a culture and spirit of a society , they give us our dairy food

The biggest problem with the cattle industry is the political turmoil that is always put on the people of this country so they can keep their power and control. ( From a cattle producer from Illinois, good luck to your future)
I worked next to some of the toughest men in the world in Mexico in our ranch and I’ll tell you what ranching and cowboying is no joke it’s one of the most beautiful ways of life. And it’s a way of life not a job 🙏🏽❤️
Great documentary, I live on a small family farm in Ireland and I have worked on farms in Canada and the US, it's a tough way of life with a lot of risk involved.
Retired Usda range mgt. specialist. Glad to see young ranchers adapting to newer science and technology to keep on ranching on a sustainable basis. Old hardheaded ranchers are going broke every year. Pounds of beef is what matters. God, family and soil health insure the prosperity of a ranch and farm operation. May God continue to bless you.
Enjoyed the film. Good spokespersons for the ranching way of life. Very educated, articulate, and fascinating personalities. But I am thinking that its just fostering the stereotypes he talked about. The devils in the details. How are you treating the land? What are you doing specifically to make sure you treat private land the same as public land? So many other questions. No matter what course in life we choose, there are highs and lows. Most are dedicated to their path and give their all. The difference is, these folks have a very definite impact on the land , air, and water. Their actions affect us all very directly. And I think its magnified in a way that it's imperative that they grow and change with the needs of society and the earth itself. That did come out in the film, but I didn't see a lot of detail of what is being done to foster positive change. My experience with cattle ranching in Southern Idaho is not one of stewardship, but of public land chewed down to the dirt by overgrazing. Wildlife taking a back seat to cattle (or even persecuted) on critical winter range or summer grazing range. I hope that has changed with young ranchers like this gentleman, but I suspect it hasn't changed all that much.
Luv response to woman's comment to plant based meats, I applaud you for a response well done! There is NO replacement for American ranchers and beef, the hype is utter nonsense, there are plenty of us who want it right from our rancher don't ever think we don't.
I wish my husband and I could afford land so we could raise our own animals and have a place for our 4 kids to also learn and work on. I hope family ranchers can keep going and continuing their legacy.
Many thanks for sharing your fine lifeways with us! All support to you - Beef is plant-based! Word!!! Great song, too. You might consider formally recording it or sharing it with a country star! It's really great!

These people deserve respect, but they are systematically sidelined on a global scale. Every time you go to the supermarket and pick up that piece of beef for your dinner, remember the families raising your food and how much you depend on them.
My Mom's family homesteaded in eastern Oregon in 1903 and my uncles were still ranching when I was growing up. So even though I never lived on the ranch, I've herded cattle on horseback, milked cows, branded calves and fed hay off a horse drawn wagon in January. It's the hardest work I've ever done. However, we ought not to perpetuate the romantic mythology about ranching in the American West. Homesteaders were able to get land because the US government conducted a century long campaign of genocide against American Indians. Let's not sugar coat that reality. Also, it's intellectually dishonest to ignore the cost paid for raising food this way. These folks work their butts off, it's true, but they couldn't survive without the ag subsidies and public lands to graze. Those are public resources they depend on, from the government and all taxpayers. Unfortunately, decades of overgrazing and heedlessness in ag waste management have resulted in severe habitat loss, damage to water ways and pollution. So, yes let's appreciate the folks who produce our food, but not ignore the social and environmental costs that go with it.
their is group of people that pay for some to get people fighting to then create more control over public lands using politics that also creates group's like cattle man association that gets paid by the same cattle men fighting to keep the right to use open public lands for grazing...THAT LAND NEEDS THE CATTLE AND WE NEED THE CATTLE MEN
