As a 53 year old police officer, diagnosed with PTSD, my self confidence and self esteem was non existent. I started horse riding, equestrian therapy this year. Now I’m mustering cattle, volunteering at horse rescue and riding my dirt bike. I found my sense of adventure again and rebuilding myself 🇦🇺

I am 65 years old and live off grid by myself. Every day is and adventure and fight for survival. I lost 65 pounds, reversed type 2 diabetes, got off of 31 medicines the doctors were killing me with. I lift weights, hunt and cut all my own firewood. So do hard things and be strong.

It rips my heart in two being an older sister seeing how many people are in the same boat as me ...without a strong father figure. My two younger siblings also break my heart to think of all we endured but at least its over all we can really do is just forgive our father for the damage he caused doing what he did to my mother and being selfishand calculated. Hopefully we can all figure things out and heal

You struck a cord on this one. My wife and I are 75 and live in a 'retirement community". We were active for all our lives and retired. Last summer we decided to tent camp for 3 months in the San Juan forest both in campgrounds and dispersed. I didn't know what I missed for 15 years of "letting the old man in". We proved we could do it and wanted more. Didn't want to go home.. People we met were amazed that at our age we could still do it. Next year we will be doing it again. Don't let the old man in. What Dwayne says is true. We lived it and now my wife and i have a rejuvenated life. Feels good.

Sir, this is a truly valuable piece of wisdom that applies to so much. I am your age and my father is 83. He called me yesterday with excitement in his voice for our upcoming elk season. He still runs a busy fishing guide service on the Columbia river and has an all day sturgeon trip with 4 clients a day before he plans to leave for elk camp. He talked about all of the gear and equipment he needs to get loaded that next night and how the gas cans and propane tanks are heavier for him nowadays, but he is still able and has the grit to get through it. Don't let the old man in.
This reminds me of being in Texas. I work in a blue collar industry that's still very new, chaotic, and difficult, but I take a great sense of pride in the job that I do. I happened to meet a man who ran a ziplining attraction down in Texas who was probably pushing 70 but wore the face of someone much younger- he was among the first guys hired in the industry that wasn't an engineer, and he got the job by going into their office every day for over a month asking for a job. What a character. Felt like he paved the way for guys like me to make something of themselves coming from nothing. I have to admit I'm not even 30 yet but feel as though I've lost my spark. The job doesn't excite me anymore. Life doesn't. I suppose I got used to things and started asking myself why I was so obsessed with being the hardest worker in the room, so I slowed down. Looking back at it, maybe that was a mistake. I'm more comfortable, but less alive. There's a price we pay for comfort.

I love this so much. I am a female and everything you are saying is just as relevant to women, and aging. As much as people would have you feel differently, rage against the dying of the light. Ageism is alive and well and it's easy to be convinced that maybe it's time to let go. However, the sense of aliveness is brought about by adventure and pushing the comfort limits. I have had to push through a major back surgery, tailbone and shoulder surgery. I have a horse and he is the light of my life.
I hear you, but the term ageism is ridiculous. Fact of the matter is just that with age comes certain downsides. It might be unfortunate and frustrating but it is a totally different thing than racism or sexism

I’m 20, I really needed this. Ever since I dropped out of college in May, my life has been on pause, I am in a complete rut. I’ve never felt like such a failure I think? But not to myself even, to my parents, which makes the burden x2. I’ve been working these past few weeks to get out of it, but Dewayne I sure will take this as a sign, whether from the man above or just a funny life thing. I needed this exact message, at this exact time and it couldn’t have been put more perfect. Thank you Dewayne, I’m not sure how many lives you’re changing, but you sure are changing mine. That night is going to have to do a whole lot more, because I do not intend on going in gently 🙏👍.

As someone who did graduate and is still struggling to find a job, keep your head up. It is a tough time out here in the world. Honestly the degree works well if you hit the ground running with it, and that's something I didn't understand. I don't think it would have made a difference in my life at all if I didn't graduate. The real value is learning persistence and drive. Good luck out there friends.

48 year old man here. Life is tough. Take it from me. I've been through many a hard time and sometimes still fight depression but if you just keep moving, learning new things, like he said, do things that scare you some, life will get better and you will have stories to tell when you are old.
Try writing yourself a letter explaining to yourself why you dropped out of college? Was it out of frustration, lack of money, poor grades or for something purposeful? Write about your dreams and how you see yourself living your life. I think that might give you more resolve for what comes next.
Many young people struggle with how to find their place in life. Don't beat yourself up. You'll find your way.
As an italian follower of yours who live by espresso made with the Moka (as you did in this video) I can assure that you did it in the right way.
To obtain the best results, remove the moka from the heat as soon as the coffee begins to rise, otherwise you risk burning it
Actually, he used regular grind instead of espresso grind, which is far from ideal. And he didn’t put enough coffee in the first place. I would even go farther and tamp the grounds just a bit to close off any big pockets of air. So no, he didn’t do it “right.” That said, if he’s been doing it like that for years and he likes it, then that’s all that matters.

@@MrFloat777 The OP said that as an Italian, they observed that he's making it the right way (referring to the traditional way of making espresso in a moka pot), so I just proceeded to add that he got a couple of things wrong following that traditional method of brewing coffee. That said, I totally agree with you. At the end of the day, Dewayne is the one drinking it, and like I said in my previous post, if he likes it that way, that's all that matters. I posted that extra info to inform people about the "right," aka traditional way, of making espresso. Some folks may be misinformed by thinking that's the way it's done based off of the OP's comment.

I definitely understand that being able to move around is a privilege, don't get me wrong. But it's more like having to move to chase jobs because of an increasingly unstable economy. I'm 52 and have worked for the same employer for 27 years, driving a cement mixer. Long hours, inconsistent sleep, rotating shifts, exposure to extreme heat (AZ heat) are the norm, which after time will wear any man down. I truly relish quiet mornings sitting on the porch drinking coffee, as the quiet is my friend. I used to hike quite often, now I tend to come up with mental blocks - My motto is "If I can just get out the door" which is often the hardest part. Another new motto is "you can make more money, but you can't make more time!" So yes, I'm going to try harder to engage my adventure side more often. Thanks!
Good morning! I am an almost 80 year old woman, and much of what you say is applicable for both men and women. The line of poetry is “Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” written by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, for his dying father. I feel that as I get older, I am learning to burn, and I rage against my close of day! This July, for my birthday, I am taking a solo road trip to Durango, CO, to ride the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge RailRoad. On the road to Durango and back, I am going to tent camp for the first time in over 50 years! And I am going to make a video of the trip, so I am learning a new skill, also! I am going to have a tent erecting party, to find out if I can put up my tent by myself (I did get a self erecting and collapsing tent), before I go out, as a shakedown. I continue to modify my list of things I have to bring with me. I have no words descriptive enough to say how much I am going to enjoy doing something I did as a youngster and into my 30s. (By my early 40s, we had a slip in camper on a pickup, and drove to Alaska. Very civilized, compared to tent camping in the 1950s.) I don’t plan on going gentle into that good night, I want to skid into Heaven, with a smile on my face, thinking, “What a great ride! Thank you, God!”

And, you are so very fortunate that you have your sons to have adventure with. Enjoy every minute with them, as anything can happen. As I so well know after losing two of my three.

I traveled across country with nothing but my pack. I hitchhiked without a dime in my pocket. I have worked for myself without knowing if i had a for sure job lined up two weeks out. I am afraid of heights and i build bridges. Why to any of these things? Because what else are you gonna do with your time in this world? What kinda stories do you have if you never take a risk or chances.
We need more men like this gentleman to speak to the younger generations about masculinity. If we don't reach out to them and offer a resource, they'll be lost and we can't afford that. Enough with Governments and elites telling us what we should be like... if we don't give back to them via information or suggestions or even just experiences, our country will suffer greatly.
There's something to be said about the difference between fear that you've chosen versus fear that is thrust upon you. Fear that you didn't ask for can shake you bad.
However, I do know that if you've experienced fear of your choice, and then have fear thrust upon you, it's familiar. It doesn't take you by surprise because you know what the next steps are. That's made a huge difference in my life.
Congratulations on your book deal, Dewayne. I'm sure you'll learn a great deal during the writing and publishing processes, furthering the lessons which you can teach to the next generations of folks like us, who watch your content (often to fit a void which society at large is not fulfilling).

I'm 51 here in Conwall England and these are wise words indeed, despite having a desk job I'm still surfing and riding by mountain bike on and off road as much as I can even if it's only a few times a month. I never was outstanding at either so it doesn't matter, just keep doing it guys!
In the 26 minutes that I've made it through this video, I have learned of the passing of 2 different good acquaintances; one from my childhood and one from my more recent life in the retriever world. Get out there and make memories my friends; we weren't just meant to work and die.

What's your novel generally about?
Keep focusing on building your online presence- social media followings, a personal website, etc.
Publishers generally look for what is going to turn a good profit.
More followers=More potential for book sales.
You can get more local followers by getting involved in your community. Volunteering at schools or libraries to read to children could be a good option, or there may be writer's clubs near your area. See what ideas other writers suggest for you.

Good lord, if this isn't what I needed to hear right now. I am former special ops, and prided myself on the tough shit I went through, but now at nearly 40, I have lost most of my motivation and always seek comfort. This is a great wakeup call to get out there and go to a Jungle Survival camp or something.
I grew up on canoe portaging trips and camping in the woods. Very fortunate to have had that kind of upbringing. But what scares me most, and why this video struck a chord, is that at 34 years old, I can already feel myself leaning into comfort. Worrying about accumulating money, reducing friction, and taking the easy road. As you said, the "file" of life is meant to be used to its full extent. I better get to planning my next adventure so that my family can build new memories, and so my daughter can remember her dad as someone not afraid to walk into the unknown. Thanks as always, Dewayne.

I have come to realize there should be a balance between doing and “being”. My first 55 years were all about doing and driving myself chasing all the things our society says to chase because that’s what success was supposed to mean. When you are empty you are supposed to chase and catch all these things to fill the hole. Right? I have come to a weariness in the futile chase and have learned to sit still and just “be”. Once a person can just be, and be happy being still, and at peace in his skin, and has let go of failures and regrets and is happy and full and ok then it’s good to start doing from this place of satisfaction. And not to ever get in the habit again of chasing and pushing, but move forward from the peaceful place that comes from being and contemplation. An age old Art that is all but forgotten. I like your videos and the balance I see in your being and doing. Thank you
I'm 76 years old and live in a log home in Arkansas. I still mow 6 acres, cut and trim trees, build decks and remodel bathrooms and kitchens. I also build custom wood doors as well. The only thing I won't do now that I used to do is climb on a roof. Most people are amazed when they meet me. They think I'm in my early to mid 60's. When I tell them I'm 76 they almost always say "I hope I look that good when I'm that age". I've lived a healthy lifestyle and that's the reason I'm in good shape. I'm not going "softly, into the night". That's for sure! I'll keep busy as long as I can!

Couldn’t agree more. Used to think people who rode motorcycles were insane. Then I bought my first Harley at 53 and felt so live for the first time in years. Now I’m not wreckless at all but I do love the risk and freedom it brings me. There is nothing else in this world that relaxes me like a long ride. I can feel the stress leaving me. I'm 67 yrs old. I have a little over 3 acres of undeveloped property. And I live in a tent. Moved here last May. Most of my firewood got wet while I was in the hospital. I'm sitting by the fire with some good strong coffee and counting my blessings. When it gets light I'll be on the end of a chainsaw. There is some standing dead that will be dry inside and make good firewood. Gotta fell some trees to get to the dead, get that fell and bucked up. Then comes the splitting maul. There's a little snow on the ground and the air is cool and so fresh. Im so happy I could die from it.
Great advice as usual. At 53 and a year after a serious illness, i rented my house and sold most of my possessions and thruhiked the Appalacian Trail. At 55 i backpacked and bikepacked from the Atlantic to the Pacific over six months. At 57 i sold my home, cashed in my retirement and bought a used truck and camper and hit the road. Now at 63 i continue to live the life of a nomad...and i love it! 😊
I’m 54, soon to be 55. I “retired” from the Marines 8 years ago. Loved the work and had many many adventures in far off lands while in the Corps, and with my family while on “leave.” I have had 4 jobs since retiring, one that resulted in us renting an apartment in Seattle, while maintaining our primary place in Virginia. Had the opportunity to get back into mountain biking; and to spend weekends in the NW forests and islands. Worked with smart young people who kept me doing exciting, innovative things. Today, I’m a C-Suite executive, who rides his mountain bike, hard, as often as possible. I drive the heck out of my little sports car with the top down, often. I feel most alive when I am riding at full speed and on the edge of making the next switchback on the MTB trail and disaster! Thanks be to God, I’m still adventurous and have maintained my sense of humor

As a 64 year old man who has traveled the world and currently is working and living in the Middle East, I can appreciate your words of wisdom. My body is sore each morning and it sometimes takes me a while to get going. I have abused my body over the years. I enjoy sitting with my dogs by the campfire after hiking and camping here in the desert. Some cool weather and a river would be idyllic. It is what it is and we keep going. Can't wait for your book.

I'm still blessed I stumbled upon your channel a year or so ago. You're a good man. About a 4 months ago I moved out of my folks house to escape the abuse and I was thrown into the fire. Without a plan on what was going to happen. I knew what I had to do was survive and sometimes I had to numb myself and stay steady and let God guide me. In the beginning in what upsetting. But I still worked and that kept my head up. I spent two months in a hotel and finding a place was a nightmare. Long story short. I found a modest small house. I'm all by myself which is what I wanted. I remember lighting my fire place for the first time. Feeling the warmth. What I'm getting at it. The journey was treacherous but it was a adventure and the adventure continues. You're absolutely right. I was sedentary for awhile but my life turned around and it's time to live. Till next sir
Congrats on a successful journey into the unknown! How did you manage to overcome the numbness? That is the only way I can cope. I've had it in me to go travel on my own for 4 months on another continent, but that was easy. Counter-dependence is easy because you're sort of running away as a big F u, and when numb it's all just whatever. The numbness is easy, it's unpacking it and living day to day is hard. Sorry if this is too presumptuous, but that's what's holding me back. Never returning from the numbness.

At 69, I still hunt alone in the mountains of the West. I live for those days in the Gods Country. I have always looked at life as an adventure, University, starting a Practice and Work…. Turn every trip into an adventure, even a trip as simple as to the grocery store……. Great advice to people……

I know my comment is a needle in a haystack of people saying how much this resonates, but oh man did this resonate. In the last month and a half I've moved cross country, and then two weeks later my dad passed away. I have a hard time explaining how I feel but I just want to say thank you for what you do. Many years ago my Father committed suicide the day before Thanksgiving. I can not do justice to the emotional trauma it did to me. But I can honestly say it does get Better. And the positive memories and impacts of His influence. Constantly come back to me. And I can focus on the Good parts. That for me is how I Honor Him.

Thank you family. I’m a 52 year old father of three sons and a daughter who’s blessed me with two awesome grandchildren. Back in 95 on the way to camp at huckleberry creek next to mt. Rainier and my buddies and I were followed by a dark triangle craft with a white light on each corner and a red light in the middle. As we approached the creek we saw a bright light underneath the bridge but continued to our spot. It was April and no one else was around. In fact, for the last 30 miles of our drive we didn’t see another car, as we were heading around the backside of the mountain on the 410 and the pass was still closed. Anyways, when we arrived one of my buddies and I decided to go to the bridge and see where the light was coming from. We headed out of the campground toward the river and up the creek bed and that’s the last thing I can remember. The first thing that comes to my mind after that was blurry. Returning to the camp to see my other buddy had already pitched the tent and had the fire blazing. The next morning 3 army Hummers pulled up to our campsite and the soldiers just stared at us and said nothing. Honestly, at that point I was surprised and didn’t remember the night before. This night has haunted me since. I’m going to go back there by myself, sleep on the ground and document the night. Thank you again family. I will not go quietly ❣️

Not to trash my dad because i love him dearly. He knew how to live off the land, hunt, fix engines, etc. He found it inconvenient to teach me with what little time he had away from work. He signed up for every bit of overtime he could because he thought it would give us a better life. He's since said that was his biggest life mistake - there's years of mine and my brother's life he doesn't remember. It's unfortunate he didn't teach me the skills that men are often known for having as their base set of skills. Anything like this I'll have to pick up on my own and it's hard to find a place to start learning these skills that seem to be passed along and not acquired so easily otherwise.

I’m 25. This video struck me. Over the past couple years I’ve been in the corporate world working from home, with a pretty paycheck to boot. It’s been an extremely comfortable couple of years.
Still in my youth, I often kick myself for being so comfortable all the damn time. When I was broke, I used to travel alone internationally with no plan whatsoever beyond the first night’s sleep, figuring it out day by day.
I’ve been carrying the yearn for adventure throughout my life. But it’s crazy how comfort can completely throw you off course for what you truly desire out of life.

From one old Cowboy to another, you are exactly right. Im 52 and I don't want to slow down. Im still training horses. Maybe not the kind that i used to break where I had to tie a hind foot up just to get a saddle on them but im still at it. Im still running a big trapline where I harvest a lot of furbearers and still raising cattle. I don't want to quit. I believe that you have to test your self all the time! Great story. I bought a sailboat after my divorce and been building a new life in then San Juan islands Washington. Being a single handed sailor and entrepreneur is very difficult but satisfying. I’m getting older but challenge the pain from hard work and living life to its fullest. Use what blessings God gave you always. Live life fully is great advice. Cheers
