Its like saying, Enigma is best armor because it gives you teleport just like helmets,amulets and weapon switches do, also i see it used in other videos and its expensive, so its clearly the most powerful.
Also fortitude does increase the +400 damage from grief. But since its added differently (which is what makes it strong) than enhanced damage on weapon, it doesn't show up. Neither does the fortitude buff to it obviously

I really like Stealth. It's easy, cheap, and anyone can make and use it...Often before even killing Andariel for the first time. It's one of the few Runewords that is not only good, but something you can actually do early in the game. So much of Diablo 2 is about obsessing over endgame farming...Too few people and items focus on what IMO is the best part: Actually playing through the storyline.
But he isn't talking about very good or best value. He's talking about most OP. Stealth maybe the one armor everybody makes once but if you aren't a caster and benefit from the mana regen and cast rate this armor does nothing for you offensively. If I were a barbarian for instance the only time I would use this is if I had nothing better with poison resist to fight Andariel.

I really appreciate what you're doing Old School Game Snob, bringing viewership and interest to a great old game. +1 to Teleport on Enigma is irrefutably the best stat on the Enigma rw. HOWEVER... The strength based on character level is where it really shines. If you have a 20/xx torch and 20/xx/xx anni as well as GG FCR, strength tri res rings (at least one) you can wear enigma without putting hardly anything (if at all) into strength, which then allows you to wear a Spirit Monarch for free (in the late 80s anyhow). This lets you allocate pretty much ALL of your stats into vitality, making your survivability as a caster go through the roof. Enigma is expensive, so it's reasonable to assume that, if you have a jah and ber rune, you have atleast a low torch and anni. Anyhow, keep on keeping on, good luck on your content!
Fort + Eth Ogre Maul BotD on a fury wolf seemed to do the trick rather well if memory serves. Enigma is great for utility/mf runs, but for straight up combat and uber clearing I'll take chains or fort.
I have to agree that Engima is one of those unfortunate pieces of armour or runewords rather that seems too good to pass up as it dramatically changes how viable a class is at farming content. There is a reason why most lobbies you run into are compromised primarily of players playing a Sorceress if they do not have an Engima chest piece. Seeing how drastically it changed the meta is likely why all of the classes in Diablo 3 have some form of mobility to get around.

Hi. A Sup Sacred Armor with 13ed 10 dura 0os dropped from the Armor rack at tower lvl 5 Countess. I made a Fortitude in it and it rolled perfect 30 All res. Great video btw. Keep it up.
At the moment I prefer treachery since I'm a bit broke....but later I'll be sure to get a fortitude. Treachery just keeps your Merc in the fight without having to resurrect him for 50k gold every game. Best bang for the buck armor imo.

Honestly, I appreciate your level handed approach to Enigma. It is amazingly powerful, that is undeniable, but people acting like it's an auto-add are a bit overstating it. COH and Fortitude both have great benefits that make them viable, and as stated, Sorceresses honestly have little reason outright to go for it, just to start.
for me personally it is'nt even the teleport skill which makes this armor so great. 14 life after each kill for a necro with corpse explosion and the MF on it, so much strength you can put in other stats while wealding a spirit shield.... For me it is a runeword which grants great survivability and MF. But lacks the hugh bonusses on resistances. For a summoner it grants a somewhat control of your minions due to teleport, but the running through dungeons with 45% faster run walk is fast enough for me. Always have a sorceress as back up for fast travelling to farm bosses. But to clear whole areas as the cows.... all the other stats are so much more valuable as the teleport skill. That said.... I like Chains of honor more. For my char and the merc.

New player here, on console unfortunately. I enjoy your guides, very informative. Clearly I'm not grinding enough as I've never seem a LEM rune...lol. Of course I cannot set player count. I recently began playing Hell Mode, see status markers on my head, feet, red, green, sound effects, etc. I know if a monster puts them on me they are bad. What I don't know is what they are and what effect they are having on me. I have not been able to find a guide to status effects. Would you touch on them sometime, would be great if you could. Thank you!
Don't give up... with countess hell, and good survivability and repetition, you'll get enough lem runes that you'll need to sell them... I also started from scratch in consoles, offline solo, using only a barb of all classes... and i lost count of the lems i sold... you can do it, it's reachable and inevitable
the "status effects" are auras/curses that enemies have, and they're all skills available to other classes. It's just a challenge to recognize the curse/aura animations as whatever curse/aura they are (amp damage, decrepify, conviction, etc) . idk much about console UI, but green means you're poisoned, red is normal. if your character is blue that means chilled/frozen, which is just a movement/attack speed penalty.

Another nice thing that makes me rate chains #1 is that it has no variables. When you can finally afford to put the runeword together, you get exactly what you pay for, no RNG involved, none of that +1-6 levels nonsense.
the bonus damage is also missed most of the time. The bonus to demons works against ALOT of mobs, and all bosses. So its basically 2/3 of a fortitude with amazing resists, +2 skills, dr and some more goodies.
Sure, that might be true, but Enigma has essentially zero variables, too-just a bit of flat defense. An anti perfect Enigma is 99.999% as good as a perfect Enigma. And it has up to 99% MF, up to 75 free strength allowing easy stat stacking, the most FRW on a single item, damage reduction, 14 life per kill. Oh and high defense independent of the armor base, allowing you to wear anything regardless of strength for almost zero downside? Enigma is so insanely overpowered and geared towards min-maxing even before considering it’s best feature, which is teleport. Nothing really approaches it. This is especially true when you’ve played long enough to afford a bunch of res@ small charms to cover resists, in which case it just blows COH out of the water. You even see it on min-max Sorc builds from time to time as it gives insane MF and saves skill points… People just tend to hate on Enigma because it’s so monstrously overpowered, game breaking, and meta-defining, which is fair. But there is no universe where it is anything but the single best item in D2 history.
They should put the +1 to teleport on the torch... or some other uber-item that doesn't have to be a part of ur gear. So that other choices actually exist..
Actually enigma is super good on sorc, that str so you can use monarch and mf are super good and the DR is good for any class of course, and you can save a point on teleport. Everything is good, just cuz it’s doesn’t have fcr doesn’t mean it’s bad on sorc
I hate enigma on my Sorceress. I already have teleport, the strength is largely wasted and it means I have to waste slots on elemental resist items rather than damage. I can get +2 skills and +65 all resist from COH and have available slots for more skill and FCR items. For me I use COH and Viper Magi almost exclusively.
not for cold i would say. i dont think you can break cold immunes in hell anyway because the cold resists are so huge compared to fire and lightning. It is however amazing for almost everything else, javazon, melee classes since the aura reduce defense, not just resists, its good for trapsin, firebear, aura sorc. Pretty much anything in the game gets stronger with it, and basically no drawback.
Infinity is stupidly expensive and helps very little if solo farming and such. The only thing it opens up as viable when playing solo is Travincal Farming. Probably Pits as well tbh. A lot of light immunes there. But everything else you can clear by playing patiently and getting an ETH CV/CA/Thresher Insight with a high ED roll, Treachery and Tals helmet for your merc. That's my merc setup and he can 1v1 nearly anything in the game except bosses which my sorc can take out easily. As for Infinity vs Fire/Cold immunes. Don't. Only like 1% of any cold immunes you will ever run into, Infinity WITH Lower Resist curse can break the immunity. It was made this way purposefully because Cold is an overpowered damage type. Fire is maybe 50/50 on whether it'll break or not from Infinity. less than 10% of lightning immunes don't get broken, and your merc can easily take them out(unless Physical immune, then you just gotta wait for his poison damage to take them out slowly haha)
For a Necro that CE is your main source of damage Cold damage is your worst enemy cause it turns the corpses into ice chunks and you can not use CE on them the more Cold damage your Merc has the less corpses you have to blow up the less damage you do so keep that in mind with some of these *High tier runewords* for your merc,
The Treachery vs Fortitude merc debate: I ran with a Treachery merc for a start since I needed him to have good res but when I got Andy's, the switch to Fort hit me as, "What in the seven hells have I been doing all this time - babysitting this fool? He's a bloody tank!"

I’ve thought about the Engima issue many many times while grinding endlessly. The reality is that Sorc feels SO good with teleport. With how much people metagame nowadays it’s just the de facto, go to option, especially with how fast and easy you can do meph runs very early. If you remove Enigma, it becomes the de facto option for all MF, and I struggle to imagine it not being #1 in PVP too. It was the best solution to how broken Teleport is.
When and if we actually get a ladder, I would love to see them add a rune word similar to enigma (with teleport and some mf) that is more obtainable. So one that doesn't use 2 of the most rare hr in the game. That way there is a rival piece to enigma and a way for people to get tele on classes until they can find the stuff for enigma. Also I would put it on a shield or helm to open up options and shake up the meta.
@@iownall2222 I like that idea, it's like how great stealth is for most classes especially casters, until they find a vipermagi and finally retire stealth.
@@versaleyang yep. It would make mfing and farming a lot more doable on classes outside of sorc, not that you can't now it's just really slow, and would allow players to mid-max their build without the need for 2 of the most expensive runes in the game.
Hell Cows and Chaos Sanctuary are the best place to farm them due to Monster Density. For farming white gear, use as little MF% as possible. the less MF you have, the more white items drop, and MF raises the chance for items to be turned into Magic/Rare/Unique/Set upon dropping.
It seems important to note that 1) grief works with fortitude, but screen just shows damage before grief is applied,but includes any %damage, which forti is. And 2) Treachery is especially good since you can proc the fade and switch the armor, granting you a buttload of resists for free, great on Ubers. Finally I wouldnt call CoH a melee runeword, all melees want Fortitude. In fact CoH is THE caster armor for a max damage build. +2 Skill is mandatory, and for max output some slots are bound to have zero resists, so CoH evens that one out and allows to go for 20life scs instead of allres ones. Will result in more vitality and res compared to Eni and res charms.
yeah big oversight to not mention that fort works for grief... as for CoH as a melee option - it is underrated here. The bonus ED is half as good as fort so you're basically trading 150% ED for 2 skills, 8 LL, 8 dr, and 35+ all res, if you need those stats it's worth it for some melees, not baba.
As a Barbarian, I'm not so sure Enigma is the best... follow me here: 1) Trav for high runes. It's like a 5 second run, do you really need it? You can say "5 seconds adds up" but we are limited on how fast we can makes games. 2) Chaos/Diablo I can get there quickly with run speed and leap... yes Enigma is faster, but killing more mobs anyway = more chance at runes/items/exp. 3) Baal. Do I need to kill Baal? Diablo drops the same high level items and is much easier and faster. 4) Mephisto I have a sorc for Meph. 5) Keys I have a sorc for this, and IMO Barb is superior for Nilathuk but he can run there in no time. 6) Pit... I personally don't mind the short run and there is always an elite pack or two on the way anyway. 7) UBERS Id say Chains/Fortitude are better than Enigma here. Engma has more MF but to use it properly I need to equip some FCR stuff, which I find irritating. I'd rather have dual Ali Baba for boss kills and Horking.
barb is actually THE BEST mf champion in d2 cause of find item skill that allows You to essentialy get drop x2 from each rare/ champion pack.. check out build for pitzerker You will find that enigma is MANDATORY item for him :)
@@marekpilarczyk7723 i woulkdnt say its mandatory. it speeds up the process for sure, but the pit is so small and so close to wp you can use a teleport helmet or amulet no problem if you absolutely feel you need it. For trav its pointless, amulet is good enough, and thats only if you need the merc for extra gf cuz you can solo them with whirlwind in like 10 secs anyway.
Highest base defense light armor in the game and can have up to 4 sockets. The str is reasonably low; you could go lower but you'd potentially lose out on defense (dusk shroud, scarab husk, etc).
@Weedknight I agree with you, i think enigma is overrated. Apart from the bonus str nothing really super there. I do however have to say that one case for enigma is that it sort of has everything. frw, skills, armor, mf. Its just not best at any specifik aspect just very solid overall.
i build duress on my javazon and now i can easy run everything total game changer :D i used peace before and the dmg is actually better even without 2 to all skills
CoH Is the best one listed for a sorceress, as you can use other power gear that lacks resistance stats easier. Though to be honest, a perfect Viper Magi with an Um rune socketed in it probably better due to having FCR. You can hit those higher FCR breakpoints far easier using Viper Magi. You just end up needing to use a different weapon, rings, or amulet to get the resistances missing from.
llama recently put out a video explaining grief, and he would lead us to believe that %ed from gear that is not on your weapon *does* go after +damage from grief which is why grief out classes every other item in the game. i don't know if the gui is just bugged?
Unless they changed it Fortitude should amp the +dmg on grief as it adds the dmg to the weapons base dmg, however, it has always displayed the wrong number in the stats page which I'm guessing wasn't fixed
I like the fact that you don't edit out your mistakes in your videos. Its very relatable vs some other D2R content creators who are finding 6 jah runes a day with gg gear. RIP small charms.
Is there any showcase of how tp looks per each frame breakpoint? I am thinking of some setups with enigma but i am not sure which fcr bracket is good enough to make it smooth
i would never go slower than 11 frames on any class except for amazon where you should never stack any amount FCR and never bother teleporting if you can just run around instead.

Reaching chaos sanctuary in 5s, repositioning my infinity merc fighting some random plebs instead of immune elite, aggro multiple cow packs by few tps - all of this is totaly poggers. Would recommend to any java but with wizzspike swap for 99fcr/12frame bp (wizzy + spirit + griffon)

Archon plate for forty and coh because of the defense, low str requirement and durability. Great hauberk is a great second choice. Mage plate for enigma. Don't use shroud, even with 15%increased max durability it sucks.
I think COH is the second most powerful armor too imo, its stats are superior to Enigma but… Enigma changed the entire game, it was literally game breaking so no contest it’s king :)
I have the runes to make a enigma but I refuse to. Imo if u want to tele make a sorc. I feel it messes up the fantasy of the other toons. Im not making a Druid but I want him to tele I'm making a druid cuz the char fantasy.
Not really anything you can do to avoid this. Teleport closer to walls and it is less likely, but the mobs can spawn anywhere on the map. They could be at doors, against walls, middle of room and so forth. Increase FCR and FHR break points so you can get in and out faster. that's the only way to survive.
Generally you'll want to make these in an Archon Plate with the required amount of sockets obviously, because of the low str requirement and the fact that APs are light armor, meaning you have no penalty to move speed. Hell cows or chaos sanctuary are good choices to look for one.

@@maliciously5957 its not impossible but you'll struggle to get your merc up to the ~230 strength unless you give them a helm/weapon that gives big +strength. I'm assuming you're talking about the act 2 merc. The act 5 merc will have a much easier time getting to 230 strength, but act 5 merc kind of sucks in comparison.
Screw runewords! One of these days I'll finally find Tyrael's Might, Ancient Armor. Should be really fun since it's one of the top 10 rarest items, high level, and has -100% requirements.

He keeps mistaking things, misinforming things and shows lack of knowledge of the game in several of his videos, for someone who makes so many tutorial videos of D2, this is certainly very unprofessional. New player here, on console unfortunately. I enjoy your guides, very informative. Clearly I'm not grinding enough as I've never seem a LEM rune...lol. Of course I cannot set player count. I recently began playing Hell Mode, see status markers on my head, feet, red, green, sound effects, etc. I know if a monster puts them on me they are bad. What I don't know is what they are and what effect they are having on me. I have not been able to find a guide to status effects. Would you touch on them sometime, would be great if you could. Thank you!
Don't give up... with countess hell, and good survivability and repetition, you'll get enough lem runes that you'll need to sell them... I also started from scratch in consoles, offline solo, using only a barb of all classes... and i lost count of the lems i sold... you can do it, it's reachable and inevitable

the "status effects" are auras/curses that enemies have, and they're all skills available to other classes. It's just a challenge to recognize the curse/aura animations as whatever curse/aura they are (amp damage, decrepify, conviction, etc) . idk much about console UI, but green means you're poisoned, red is normal. if your character is blue that means chilled/frozen, which is just a movement/attack speed penalty.

Another nice thing that makes me rate chains #1 is that it has no variables. When you can finally afford to put the runeword together, you get exactly what you pay for, no RNG involved, none of that +1-6 levels nonsense.
the bonus damage is also missed most of the time. The bonus to demons works against ALOT of mobs, and all bosses. So its basically 2/3 of a fortitude with amazing resists, +2 skills, dr and some more goodies.
Sure, that might be true, but Enigma has essentially zero variables, too-just a bit of flat defense. An anti perfect Enigma is 99.999% as good as a perfect Enigma.
And it has up to 99% MF, up to 75 free strength allowing easy stat stacking, the most FRW on a single item, damage reduction, 14 life per kill. Oh and high defense independent of the armor base, allowing you to wear anything regardless of strength for almost zero downside?
Enigma is so insanely overpowered and geared towards min-maxing even before considering it’s best feature, which is teleport. Nothing really approaches it. This is especially true when you’ve played long enough to afford a bunch of res@ small charms to cover resists, in which case it just blows COH out of the water. You even see it on min-max Sorc builds from time to time as it gives insane MF and saves skill points…
People just tend to hate on Enigma because it’s so monstrously overpowered, game breaking, and meta-defining, which is fair. But there is no universe where it is anything but the single best item in D2 history.

Actually enigma is super good on sorc, that str so you can use monarch and mf are super good and the DR is good for any class of course, and you can save a point on teleport. Everything is good, just cuz it’s doesn’t have fcr doesn’t mean it’s bad on sorc
I hate enigma on my Sorceress. I already have teleport, the strength is largely wasted and it means I have to waste slots on elemental resist items rather than damage. I can get +2 skills and +65 all resist from COH and have available slots for more skill and FCR items. For me I use COH and Viper Magi almost exclusively.

Yes it is worth on cold/fire even if only for the effect of breaking most immunes on monsters
not for cold i would say. i dont think you can break cold immunes in hell anyway because the cold resists are so huge compared to fire and lightning. It is however amazing for almost everything else, javazon, melee classes since the aura reduce defense, not just resists, its good for trapsin, firebear, aura sorc. Pretty much anything in the game gets stronger with it, and basically no drawback.
Infinity is stupidly expensive and helps very little if solo farming and such. The only thing it opens up as viable when playing solo is Travincal Farming. Probably Pits as well tbh. A lot of light immunes there. But everything else you can clear by playing patiently and getting an ETH CV/CA/Thresher Insight with a high ED roll, Treachery and Tals helmet for your merc. That's my merc setup and he can 1v1 nearly anything in the game except bosses which my sorc can take out easily.
As for Infinity vs Fire/Cold immunes. Don't. Only like 1% of any cold immunes you will ever run into, Infinity WITH Lower Resist curse can break the immunity. It was made this way purposefully because Cold is an overpowered damage type. Fire is maybe 50/50 on whether it'll break or not from Infinity. less than 10% of lightning immunes don't get broken, and your merc can easily take them out(unless Physical immune, then you just gotta wait for his poison damage to take them out slowly haha)

For a Necro that CE is your main source of damage Cold damage is your worst enemy cause it turns the corpses into ice chunks and you can not use CE on them the more Cold damage your Merc has the less corpses you have to blow up the less damage you do so keep that in mind with some of these *High tier runewords* for your merc,
Fortitude ed works with grief. Same as skill ED :).
I have both enigma and coh. I use the enigma for mf but if im running something really tough ill always throw on the coh

The Treachery vs Fortitude merc debate: I ran with a Treachery merc for a start since I needed him to have good res but when I got Andy's, the switch to Fort hit me as, "What in the seven hells have I been doing all this time - babysitting this fool? He's a bloody tank!"

I’ve thought about the Engima issue many many times while grinding endlessly. The reality is that Sorc feels SO good with teleport. With how much people metagame nowadays it’s just the de facto, go to option, especially with how fast and easy you can do meph runs very early. If you remove Enigma, it becomes the de facto option for all MF, and I struggle to imagine it not being #1 in PVP too. It was the best solution to how broken Teleport is.

When and if we actually get a ladder, I would love to see them add a rune word similar to enigma (with teleport and some mf) that is more obtainable. So one that doesn't use 2 of the most rare hr in the game. That way there is a rival piece to enigma and a way for people to get tele on classes until they can find the stuff for enigma. Also I would put it on a shield or helm to open up options and shake up the meta.

@@versaleyang yep. It would make mfing and farming a lot more doable on classes outside of sorc, not that you can't now it's just really slow, and would allow players to mid-max their build without the need for 2 of the most expensive runes in the game.
Mate where do you get those archonplates? Im Lvl 89.5 ive seen 1 archon plate and 1 sacred targe.
Hell Cows and Chaos Sanctuary are the best place to farm them due to Monster Density. For farming white gear, use as little MF% as possible. the less MF you have, the more white items drop, and MF raises the chance for items to be turned into Magic/Rare/Unique/Set upon dropping.
Treachery doesn't give %Enhanced Defense, that's from the armor base ;)
Also that Fortitude showcase, this has to be a troll video haha
It seems important to note that 1) grief works with fortitude, but screen just shows damage before grief is applied,but includes any %damage, which forti is. And 2) Treachery is especially good since you can proc the fade and switch the armor, granting you a buttload of resists for free, great on Ubers. Finally I wouldnt call CoH a melee runeword, all melees want Fortitude. In fact CoH is THE caster armor for a max damage build. +2 Skill is mandatory, and for max output some slots are bound to have zero resists, so CoH evens that one out and allows to go for 20life scs instead of allres ones. Will result in more vitality and res compared to Eni and res charms.
yeah big oversight to not mention that fort works for grief... as for CoH as a melee option - it is underrated here. The bonus ED is half as good as fort so you're basically trading 150% ED for 2 skills, 8 LL, 8 dr, and 35+ all res, if you need those stats it's worth it for some melees, not baba.

As a Barbarian, I'm not so sure Enigma is the best... follow me here: 1) Trav for high runes. It's like a 5 second run, do you really need it? You can say "5 seconds adds up" but we are limited on how fast we can makes games. 2) Chaos/Diablo I can get there quickly with run speed and leap... yes Enigma is faster, but killing more mobs anyway = more chance at runes/items/exp. 3) Baal. Do I need to kill Baal? Diablo drops the same high level items and is much easier and faster. 4) Mephisto I have a sorc for Meph. 5) Keys I have a sorc for this, and IMO Barb is superior for Nilathuk but he can run there in no time. 6) Pit... I personally don't mind the short run and there is always an elite pack or two on the way anyway. 7) UBERS Id say Chains/Fortitude are better than Enigma here.
Engma has more MF but to use it properly I need to equip some FCR stuff, which I find irritating. I'd rather have dual Ali Baba for boss kills and Horking.
barb is actually THE BEST mf champion in d2 cause of find item skill that allows You to essentialy get drop x2 from each rare/ champion pack.. check out build for pitzerker You will find that enigma is MANDATORY item for him :)

@@marekpilarczyk7723 i woulkdnt say its mandatory. it speeds up the process for sure, but the pit is so small and so close to wp you can use a teleport helmet or amulet no problem if you absolutely feel you need it. For trav its pointless, amulet is good enough, and thats only if you need the merc for extra gf cuz you can solo them with whirlwind in like 10 secs anyway.
personally i like skullder for pit, since it gives more total mf and reach same hork breakpoints

Highest base defense light armor in the game and can have up to 4 sockets. The str is reasonably low; you could go lower but you'd potentially lose out on defense (dusk shroud, scarab husk, etc).

I like using Engima on sorc as a very late end game armor. +2 skills, strength, Damage Reduction, Max Life, Magic Find. What's not to like?
@Weedknight I agree with you, i think enigma is overrated. Apart from the bonus str nothing really super there. I do however have to say that one case for enigma is that it sort of has everything. frw, skills, armor, mf. Its just not best at any specifik aspect just very solid overall.

CoH Is the best one listed for a sorceress, as you can use other power gear that lacks resistance stats easier. Though to be honest, a perfect Viper Magi with an Um rune socketed in it probably better due to having FCR. You can hit those higher FCR breakpoints far easier using Viper Magi. You just end up needing to use a different weapon, rings, or amulet to get the resistances missing from.

llama recently put out a video explaining grief, and he would lead us to believe that %ed from gear that is not on your weapon *does* go after +damage from grief which is why grief out classes every other item in the game. i don't know if the gui is just bugged?
Duress is so underrated.
Unless they changed it Fortitude should amp the +dmg on grief as it adds the dmg to the weapons base dmg, however, it has always displayed the wrong number in the stats page which I'm guessing wasn't fixed
The damage display was fixed so it shows the real damage.

i would never go slower than 11 frames on any class except for amazon where you should never stack any amount FCR and never bother teleporting if you can just run around instead.

Reaching chaos sanctuary in 5s, repositioning my infinity merc fighting some random plebs instead of immune elite, aggro multiple cow packs by few tps - all of this is totaly poggers. Would recommend to any java but with wizzspike swap for 99fcr/12frame bp (wizzy + spirit + griffon)

archon plates and dusk shrouds are the standar bcs lower str required, for mercenary as long as it is good ethereal base its cool.
Archon plate for forty and coh because of the defense, low str requirement and durability. Great hauberk is a great second choice.
Mage plate for enigma.
Don't use shroud, even with 15%increased max durability it sucks.
I think COH is the second most powerful armor too imo, its stats are superior to Enigma but… Enigma changed the entire game, it was literally game breaking so no contest it’s king :)

FCR isn’t high enough to get out lol
Not really anything you can do to avoid this. Teleport closer to walls and it is less likely, but the mobs can spawn anywhere on the map. They could be at doors, against walls, middle of room and so forth. Increase FCR and FHR break points so you can get in and out faster. that's the only way to survive.
Can you go over the best way to get the highest defense armors there are to use for these runewords? Best places to farm them?
Generally you'll want to make these in an Archon Plate with the required amount of sockets obviously, because of the low str requirement and the fact that APs are light armor, meaning you have no penalty to move speed. Hell cows or chaos sanctuary are good choices to look for one.

Sacred armor will give the best defense but most people avoid them cause it has a massive strength requirement.

@@maliciously5957 its not impossible but you'll struggle to get your merc up to the ~230 strength unless you give them a helm/weapon that gives big +strength. I'm assuming you're talking about the act 2 merc. The act 5 merc will have a much easier time getting to 230 strength, but act 5 merc kind of sucks in comparison.
