Been playing d2 since I was like 13, 29 now. I found a ber for the first time ever and no bs found an ohm like not even 2 hrs later and then pulled a pul out of a chest next run after finding the ohm. All within a few hours of each other. I almost shit myself no joke, never in my life have I felt that lucky ever. Ever….
Here's a hint for single players. Memorize your map in LK and instead of farming only the super chests, go and click on every existing clickable (chests, dead bodies, weapon racks) at this location. The result for me is a full cube and a 2x8 squares of inventory space full of all sorts of gems, charms, rings, amus and low/mid runes per run. Each run takes me approx 10 mins and I get a high rune approx once every 80-100 runs. The plus side of this is that you get so much gems that you can reroll a ton of GC to get skillers. In SP I have around 10 playable characters and most of their inventories are almost full of skillers, thanks to that method. Of course important detail is that you need to run, so you need a good runner (assassin, paladin with aura or just whatever character with a ton of FRW - I use a Trapsin with max Burst of Speed). I let my Merc kill stuff while I'm clicking and I help him with the denser groups, oh and I don't skip boss groups. I run with about 80-100 MF, which gives me occasionally some good rare or unique item and low enough to get a decent bases from time to time. If someone decide to try it out, let me know how it works for you.
Yeah nah doesn't happen. I've ran lk over 100 times, clicking every poppable. On average get a flawless gem or two per run, and a crappy charm. This game really is a boring grind

great advice! I also recommend opening all barrels, chests, urns, corpses, etc.. I also kill everything on my way to whatever target I am farming. Halls of Nihlithak have been very good for high runes.
have pretty much got gear for a Nova sorc or the gear that all these build guides say to have. someone wanna tell me why I have 2k mana and I run out in 2.7 seconds and can't maintain it?
@@crog241 not sure, I thought higher mana pool increased ypur mana regen. Maybe try putting a few points in warmth, or getting +mana regen on your items e.g caster crafted rings and ammys
Hey Phil and Friends, I'd like to confirm some of these locations. For Arcane, i often find mid runes like Um and Mal, clearing ghosties and popping those chests at the end. For Countess, you're doing yourself a disservice if you dont clear unique packs and ghosts on your way to her. Great opportunity for a few ist runes, mid runes, even a ber rune before you hit countess is possible here. A maras dropped from a unique monster for me here. As for Worldstone Keep to Baal, Vex and Ohm have dropped for me here. I would recommend if you don't have 75 Resist lightning, a Blackhorns Face makes a night and day difference when clearing here. Luckily, after I snagged that Ohm rune, I don't need it anymore. Made a +5bo cta and this place is easy farming now, save for those darn undead fetish guys. Worldstone is also a great place to MF. Huge density, bonus boss at the end. Runes just fall out of the sky. What's not to love? Your experience may vary, but I don't put nearly as many hours as a lot of players seem to do. Maybe an hour or two a day, if I decide to play. Those Tombs are a very attractive place to try out now that you've brought it to my attention. Think I'll give that a crack next. ^.^
No offense but you're a liar. There's no way that you are finding Um and Mal ruins when I have been grinding and farming that area for days without a single one of those things to drop. You're full of it.
I found a Jah on the way to the countess yesterday, your completely right. I got hit by a double pack of wraith and stopped to kill them and I got lucky. Also the chests and coffins have given me Mal and Ohm in the last day or two as well which made for some good rune farming.
Souls in Act 3 also have higher chance of dropping runes, although they can be tedious for most builds, I think the new FoHdin or improved Bowason would be great for farming this particular spot for Runes. I guess each build would have advantages and disadvantages and definately knowing which farming spots are less preferred by the party members and their builds can let you easily farm such spots.
Good stuff, I have never had a high rune drop from cows, chaos sanctuary, or lk super chests. They just randomly drop from a trash monster, random corpse, or pot. It's pure random luck, and I have never noticed a difference between single or full players 8. The rune drop rates have been the same, I even had a buddy have a vex rune drop from a skeleton mage in nightmare worldstone chamber. It's just random dumb luck. Lol.
Pits has always been my favorite farming spot. Plus the introduction of terror zones has cemented it as my favorite. The mobs themselves are usually not as fast or dangerous, allowing you to farm on p7 to lvl your high levels while mfing. If you roll a good map the entrance will be directly beside the fallen camp to quickly take out for HR drop chance as well
Don't forget that if location isn't tc85 than here is cap of max rune level you can get from it. For example, in Tal Rasha tomb suggested 8:30 maximum rune possible to drop is is Ohm-Lo. In a3 Kurast Bazar superchests it's Sur-Ber and so on. In any level85 area all runes are able to drop independent from act.
Tzones maybe become the new go to now. Not to mention the sheere amount of xp you will get and usually higher my char lvl the more consistent the rune drop.

Flayer jungle and worldstone are incredible spots for the FoHdin players out there, I've been hitting them up frequently. Absolutely DECIMATES everything, pretty much every enemy you face is a demon or undead in these spots, so resists outright don't matter, leaving pile after pile of corpses in your path with minimal effort. Even better now with patch 2.5 as both locations can become terrorized!
I still can't believe i crafted an enigma, grief and fortitude by running only travincal with my ww barb. Might try these locations as well. Running the same place really gets boring fast 😂
Worth noting, each area in Diablo 2 has a pre-set list of monsters that can spawn, but the game always only chooses 3 from the list per game generation. A recommendation is to skip the entire area if (A) a single encounter of an unwanted mob is found in that area. (B) All 3 mobs have been identified and none of those are the mob type you are looking for.
Don't sleep on Crescent Moon for these runs. the -35 to light rez works like a +35% to damage making it far stronger than even HOTO at the cost of an Um rune. A little bit behind it, but with way more MF is going to be 5pc Tals: surprisingly the 4pc bonus on the Tals weapon gives -15% and you can socket it with a facet for another -5% pushing it ahead of Occy/Hoto as well. Edit: I also clear the fetishes out of the halls of pain, they are TC87 and super dense. On nova I can farm all 3 keys easy and loot a bunch of density along the way.
Hey, I see you commenting on nearly every D2R video I've watched over the last few days. I actually have one of your comments saved re: a paladin build for starting with FOH. I'm going back and forth on what my starter build should be....Have you decided? I'm debating on whether I should hop on the FOH hype train or do some sort of sorc hybrid, eventually respec'ing into a nova sorc. Or maybe nova right off the bat if I could get away with it? Might be tough. What are you going to start with?

When we got the 2.4 changes and they said HB would hit Demon/Undead I was sold on FOH, but then I started testing and realized that Nihl and his minions were animals so they suck to farm. I want to get into Ubers early and if I can't farm all the keys its going to slow me down a lot. FOH is still king for CS/Pit clears though, so it very well may pay out some rare loot I can trade up in value. Then when they pushed 2.4 to live they announced the Mana Burn fix and that really boosted the Nova/ES sorc (which is what I played on 2.3). I'm thinking that if I roll Nova I can focus on Runes/Keys and buy into the Ubers game just as fast with all the new Pallys floating around. For clearing the game, I play solo so i'm stuck between FO/Hydra and Bliz/Ball as both have merits. Bliz ball may win out based on Boss and Cow damage (which is what I will lack after I swap to NovaES post story). For leveling the Pally solo I'm going HF-> Hammers to clear the story, then going to FOH/Smite for CS clears and try to push undergeared into Ubers. However there is a lot of merit to running HF to 30+, getting dual spirit, and then going pure FOH the rest of the way. I personally don't like the single target light damage for clearing fights like the ancients, but that's a choice. if I end up pulled into a group pure FOH is the clear choice as Conviction is nuts for anything more than solo. the time difference between solo and group clears is unreal (6h vs 3h) so its really worth considering.
The new barb dual wield act5 merc cannot use anything but one-handed swords, I was quite disappointed to say the least... but even more so when I realized that even tho a barbarian is able to dual wield swords that normally are only two-handed for all other char classes (example: a colossus sword), the new act5 barb merc CANNOT dual wield them either, unlike a normal barb.... my wish is for that (imo stupid) restriction.... so until then, I'm not gonna be hiring act5 dual wield merc, cuz I'd rather just use the regular one-handed + shield bash merc
ive noticed crystalline passage and glacial trail roll Ghosts about 50% of the time, and theres only 1 possibility for a lighnting immune. Ive been farming for HRs there lately as a Trapsin.
I know the countess is one of the best place for mid high runes, but lately I've been clearing the tower and getting higher runes and more, typicly 4 to 5, on the way to her, and then one or two from her. But even then my highest rune is still an um, and building up from scratch I've made 3 Io runes now. But it is taking forever.

@@Christoff070 oh man I've done up to a thousand or more potentially it's been so long, but I've gotten many great runes from Trav. It's def the best location to farm great runes from my personal experience. I've gotten a bunch I've lost count
@@Christoff070 only downside from Trav is its item level not being up to par with CS or Baal but the amount of HRs you get will make up for it. Best of luck farming
Good video as always Phil. I think sometimes people get too hung up on level 85 areas and they don't realize there are a ton of viable and fun areas to farm that aren't necessarily max level.
I have a silly question in my head that's been bugging me. Suppose you start from Act 1 Hell and proceed to kill every single enemies and open every boxes, corpses, popables, etc. and complete the game. Will you get any high runes? No save and exit, pause for break only allowed.
Honestly. The odds of a high rune drop in one full game clear leans toward no drop. 2 or 3 and you're looking at a hard maybe. That's a full clear all special zones.
Stony field, tristram, the pit, A1 tower: ghost packs and countess, arcane sant ghost packs and summoner. Tombs for ghost packs. Act 3 flayer and spider forest A5 shank and all of world stone.

a week ago I got a Jah off a mob in cold plains. You can get them anywhere, just enjoy the game, almost everything that's usable can drop from mostly anything in Hell.
If the loot drop was character based like in Diablo 3 then I can see farming in a group. But I can remember back in the original D2 where my 99 level bowazon was always getting short changed by melee and sorc character. She just never had a chance to grab any good loot. I lost several good bows yhat way and inevitablly they would ask me what I was offering for the bow (I finally got the best bow in the game clicking on a dead body). I can only imagine what it would be like now that runes are a big part of the game. None of my friends from back then play anymore. I'm it. I tried going into multi player games and the spots I am looking to farm are either already farmed or people show up and grab the loot. There are some nice people who play - like the other day I started a game looking to trade for a rune and a pally joined and just gave it to me refusing to take anything. Those people are few and far between.
Always when i would lead baalruns i would clear the throne so others wouldnt die before letting them in it got me a griffons but i got scolded for it tough
Lower kurast is a great place for runes. Just run around popping all the chests. And because you’re just popping chests you can do it at high player count with bad gear.
I've been running Arcane for the past few days and I don't know if I'm being smart about it. I'm running Arcane on Solo Player 7 Difficulty with a lvl 90 Hammerdin(budget-ish). Shako +3 Combat/Half Freeze Dur Amu Wiz Spike (I have a 38% hoto but I can't take the decrease in resists yet) HoZ (Also have a 66% AR Rhyme Sacred Rondache / or 35%FCR/37%AR Spirit Gilded Shield) Stealth in a 462 WyrmHide Crafted 7% Caster Belt w/ 24% FHR (+Str) 23% Nagels R Ring (Str/Light Res/Mf) Trang-Oul's Claws Tearhaunch about 180mf (I know this doesn't effect Runes) Merc Is Running Tal Rasha's Helm +17 Insight Thresher Treachery in an Eth Ornate Plate (Trying to find a Lo for Fortitude I have an almost 700 Eth WyrmHide waiting for him but I am kind of really liking the Treachery(is fort really better?)) It takes me about 30-40 min to do a full Arcane clear. Grabbing a bunch of trash uniques, tons of charms, I am finding lots of Low and some mid runes but I have yet to find a High. I am trying to build my first Enigma, I have a 549 Sup Wire Fleece waiting for it. Should I be doing it on a lower difficulty for quicker clear?
I have a Tesladin, which can clear screens of mobs within 1-3 pulses of holy shock...done hundreds of tal rashas tombs, act 1 pit, cows, chaos...even build a serk barb and ran like 400 travincals...nothing. It's really bad. =(
Been farming for Jah and Beh for a week now and the highest I’ve looted was a pul. Got a 572 def 3 socket archon plate but those damn runes won’t ever drop for that enigma, which I need teleport to farm faster.
@@bobnewkirk7003 Tamoe Highland and Bloody Foothills are always good for the quilly boys, and they are not light immune there. Seems like "Gimps" are also in the bloody foothills too 😂
I've been farming for Lo and Mal runes and I got to say that this is the most ridiculous drop chances I've ever seen in a game. Doesn't make it any easier that the countess in Hell mode drops 99% Normal runes. I used to love this game but these drop chances are killing the game.
Anyone knows why he is playing in Hell and has such a low health pool? Just curious. My health pool is mostly at the start of Hell around 700. I know the spirit shield uses a lot of strength, but with charms I always seem to have that digit a lot higher. Maybe I am doing it wrong and should focus on different specs, but HC is merciless. Al though playing since launch of D2 I still can learn a lot more.
They fixed the mana burn bug in patch 2.4 so the sorceress can now go fully into mana/mana regen/energy shield to be almost invincible. It also makes elemental resistances less important.
Yeah, enemies that deal magic damage, and undead (including spectre-types); have a higher priority on rune drops. The big hint is in act II / normal. The first encounter with mummy's, will generally drop a rune? The intentional sense being that runes are ancient, and thus only ancient enemies are likely to have them. So 'undead'. TBH, in 20yrs I've never been all that convinced MF% is worth pursuing. - Certainly, one should get rid of all MF when hunting for runes, as often most of the same enemies, are also more likely to drop superior normal and socketed items too. MF is mainly for traders, as you're really just skewing the loot table; away from normal and low Pfx/Sfx magic items, to focus more on specific loot to the difficulty you're in. - Firstly, only your first 20% / diff. MF, is going to be your most potent (60% by Hell -10% for Norm & NM is 40%) thats your kernal. You're then working towards between 180 - 220% in increments of 4% to find your sweet spot between melting mobs; and skewing the drop table. For example: My Hybri'zon will rock 192% MF, thats her sweet spot. If she's looking for a Shako, then she's running 'Tomoe Highlands' (pronounced 'to-mo-e', all lower case). If she drops one, she'll drop 2 or 3, or the same number of Angelic rings, or whatever; and theres no point in that. - The only 'sure fire' way to get a decent spread of high level gear in your diff. is to blitz as large a mob as you can agro, as fast as possible; moving from one mob to the next quickly. Thats it.
so my problem is I can't get good enough gear to play on hell. and that goes for any character I've played. the closest I came to tackling hell was my barb, but his weapons break so fast and it takes almost half a mill to fix them.
Double colossus swords whit oath runewords are almost must for working towards the end game barb i can later write my current stats skill points gear etc for my frenzy barb so you can get better idea for what to look for and how to progress further im currently 92 lvl this is still my first started char i buyed the game about 3 months ago its been blast to relive my childhood on ps4. i know i've been quite lucky i have found quite fine gear fast whitout much of farming most things i found when completing all difficulties just progressing normally atm im just doing baal runs for the leveling up more. i Have only farmed LK littlebit and countess other "farming" has been just xp gaining runs for Diablo and Baal
Calefxd did a video about the Den of Evil and he found a Sur rune and I think some others. I gave it a try and found my first ever Jah, no joke lol. The only joke was being played on me since ladder is about to start
No, there is not, it is just RNG some people will say they dropped Ber rune while doing first Chaos and some will not drop Ber rune during the entire season or even longer. I have played on regular bases since the beginning of D2R, efficiently, around 1500 hours together and not dropped a Ber or Zod rune - including both online and single player set on P7. But online you can still trade items for runes.
In 20 years be never found a rune higher than gul. It’s just luck and random. Just make sure you kill things lvl 85; a lot of Hell difficulty mobs don’t drop higher than Lo.
I’m not seeing the 2.4 updates in my game…is there something I need to do to get this version? Would really appreciate an answer from SP or anyone on here.

For cold sorc I recommend Ancient Tunnels, but also since 2.4 Stony Tomb level 1 and 2 for example.

For leveling the Pally solo I'm going HF-> Hammers to clear the story, then going to FOH/Smite for CS clears and try to push undergeared into Ubers. However there is a lot of merit to running HF to 30+, getting dual spirit, and then going pure FOH the rest of the way. I personally don't like the single target light damage for clearing fights like the ancients, but that's a choice. if I end up pulled into a group pure FOH is the clear choice as Conviction is nuts for anything more than solo. the time difference between solo and group clears is unreal (6h vs 3h) so its really worth considering.
The new barb dual wield act5 merc cannot use anything but one-handed swords, I was quite disappointed to say the least... but even more so when I realized that even tho a barbarian is able to dual wield swords that normally are only two-handed for all other char classes (example: a colossus sword), the new act5 barb merc CANNOT dual wield them either, unlike a normal barb.... my wish is for that (imo stupid) restriction.... so until then, I'm not gonna be hiring act5 dual wield merc, cuz I'd rather just use the regular one-handed + shield bash merc
On my second online solo game today i ran cows and my first ever Jah dropped. My jaw dropped.
ive noticed crystalline passage and glacial trail roll Ghosts about 50% of the time, and theres only 1 possibility for a lighnting immune. Ive been farming for HRs there lately as a Trapsin.
I know the countess is one of the best place for mid high runes, but lately I've been clearing the tower and getting higher runes and more, typicly 4 to 5, on the way to her, and then one or two from her. But even then my highest rune is still an um, and building up from scratch I've made 3 Io runes now. But it is taking forever.

should just spam Trav with a hork barb for runes. Can be boring and repetitive but you get good stuff in the long run

@@Christoff070 oh man I've done up to a thousand or more potentially it's been so long, but I've gotten many great runes from Trav. It's def the best location to farm great runes from my personal experience. I've gotten a bunch I've lost count
@@Christoff070 only downside from Trav is its item level not being up to par with CS or Baal but the amount of HRs you get will make up for it. Best of luck farming
Good video as always Phil. I think sometimes people get too hung up on level 85 areas and they don't realize there are a ton of viable and fun areas to farm that aren't necessarily max level.
This for sure. Im guilty, but I've been breaking the habit by clearing the whole way to whatever I'm mainly farming.

I have a silly question in my head that's been bugging me.
Suppose you start from Act 1 Hell and proceed to kill every single enemies and open every boxes, corpses, popables, etc. and complete the game. Will you get any high runes? No save and exit, pause for break only allowed.
Honestly. The odds of a high rune drop in one full game clear leans toward no drop. 2 or 3 and you're looking at a hard maybe. That's a full clear all special zones.
Wow. My highest rune drop in my Diablo 2 career is Ohm. But I don't play that much.

You can get them anywhere, just enjoy the game, almost everything that's usable can drop from mostly anything in Hell.

If the loot drop was character based like in Diablo 3 then I can see farming in a group. But I can remember back in the original D2 where my 99 level bowazon was always getting short changed by melee and sorc character. She just never had a chance to grab any good loot. I lost several good bows yhat way and inevitablly they would ask me what I was offering for the bow (I finally got the best bow in the game clicking on a dead body). I can only imagine what it would be like now that runes are a big part of the game. None of my friends from back then play anymore. I'm it. I tried going into multi player games and the spots I am looking to farm are either already farmed or people show up and grab the loot. There are some nice people who play - like the other day I started a game looking to trade for a rune and a pally joined and just gave it to me refusing to take anything. Those people are few and far between.

Lower kurast is a great place for runes. Just run around popping all the chests. And because you’re just popping chests you can do it at high player count with bad gear.
I farmed act 3 LK for three days now on players 7. I have found ONE sur and ONE Lo and NEITHER were in the chests, they were in LOGS!!

Treachery in an Eth Ornate Plate (Trying to find a Lo for Fortitude I have an almost 700 Eth WyrmHide waiting for him but I am kind of really liking the Treachery(is fort really better?))
It takes me about 30-40 min to do a full Arcane clear. Grabbing a bunch of trash uniques, tons of charms, I am finding lots of Low and some mid runes but I have yet to find a High. I am trying to build my first Enigma, I have a 549 Sup Wire Fleece waiting for it. Should I be doing it on a lower difficulty for quicker clear?
Arcane is great for HR and superchests. Also a lot of chests/monster density in tals tombs

I have a Tesladin, which can clear screens of mobs within 1-3 pulses of holy shock...done hundreds of tal rashas tombs, act 1 pit, cows, chaos...even build a serk barb and ran like 400 travincals...nothing. It's really bad. =(
Been farming for Jah and Beh for a week now and the highest I’ve looted was a pul. Got a 572 def 3 socket archon plate but those damn runes won’t ever drop for that enigma, which I need teleport to farm faster.
Go to the Glacial Trail. IMHO it's one of the best places to hunt. Live in that place and cows.
Quill Rats are second (behind whispy boyz) in rune drop rates.

Got 2 ohm runes within 4 full clear boss runs this week
I've been farming for Lo and Mal runes and I got to say that this is the most ridiculous drop chances I've ever seen in a game. Doesn't make it any easier that the countess in Hell mode drops 99% Normal runes. I used to love this game but these drop chances are killing the game.

Anyone knows why he is playing in Hell and has such a low health pool? Just curious. My health pool is mostly at the start of Hell around 700. I know the spirit shield uses a lot of strength, but with charms I always seem to have that digit a lot higher. Maybe I am doing it wrong and should focus on different specs, but HC is merciless. Al though playing since launch of D2 I still can learn a lot more.
They fixed the mana burn bug in patch 2.4 so the sorceress can now go fully into mana/mana regen/energy shield to be almost invincible. It also makes elemental resistances less important.

Yeah, enemies that deal magic damage, and undead (including spectre-types); have a higher priority on rune drops. The big hint is in act II / normal. The first encounter with mummy's, will generally drop a rune? The intentional sense being that runes are ancient, and thus only ancient enemies are likely to have them. So 'undead'.
TBH, in 20yrs I've never been all that convinced MF% is worth pursuing. - Certainly, one should get rid of all MF when hunting for runes, as often most of the same enemies, are also more likely to drop superior normal and socketed items too.
MF is mainly for traders, as you're really just skewing the loot table; away from normal and low Pfx/Sfx magic items, to focus more on specific loot to the difficulty you're in. - Firstly, only your first 20% / diff. MF, is going to be your most potent (60% by Hell -10% for Norm & NM is 40%) thats your kernal. You're then working towards between 180 - 220% in increments of 4% to find your sweet spot between melting mobs; and skewing the drop table.
For example: My Hybri'zon will rock 192% MF, thats her sweet spot. If she's looking for a Shako, then she's running 'Tomoe Highlands' (pronounced 'to-mo-e', all lower case). If she drops one, she'll drop 2 or 3, or the same number of Angelic rings, or whatever; and theres no point in that. - The only 'sure fire' way to get a decent spread of high level gear in your diff. is to blitz as large a mob as you can agro, as fast as possible; moving from one mob to the next quickly. Thats it.

so my problem is I can't get good enough gear to play on hell. and that goes for any character I've played. the closest I came to tackling hell was my barb, but his weapons break so fast and it takes almost half a mill to fix them.
Double colossus swords whit oath runewords are almost must for working towards the end game barb i can later write my current stats skill points gear etc for my frenzy barb so you can get better idea for what to look for and how to progress further im currently 92 lvl this is still my first started char i buyed the game about 3 months ago its been blast to relive my childhood on ps4. i know i've been quite lucky i have found quite fine gear fast whitout much of farming most things i found when completing all difficulties just progressing normally atm im just doing baal runs for the leveling up more. i Have only farmed LK littlebit and countess other "farming" has been just xp gaining runs for Diablo and Baal

No, there is not, it is just RNG some people will say they dropped Ber rune while doing first Chaos and some will not drop Ber rune during the entire season or even longer. I have played on regular bases since the beginning of D2R, efficiently, around 1500 hours together and not dropped a Ber or Zod rune - including both online and single player set on P7. But online you can still trade items for runes.

In 20 years be never found a rune higher than gul. It’s just luck and random. Just make sure you kill things lvl 85; a lot of Hell difficulty mobs don’t drop higher than Lo.
