    The 01 Mustang needs the 70-5519 metra kit. It hooks up exactly the same except for 1 thing. On the second smaller power amp & Sub plug there will be two grounds instead of one. Just make sure to connect them both to the stereo ground wire ( black ) from your new radio harness. That should do it. Same procedure.

      No. It will sound horrible. It will not work right using the Metra harness and no amps.

    That was extremely helpful. Thanks for not adding any silly music over instructions or anything else that would detract from the information you give here. Also, thanks for actually doing stuff on the video. I'd add that it would be helpful to connect at least one wire during the video, as another commenter said. Otherwise, this was the simplest and best video I've found on this topic.

    This video just made my year! I’ve been fiddling with my the wiring on my ‘03 Mustang for a couple of weeks trying to get the bass to work, and it was exactly those blue wires causing me issues. Thanks for the great video!

    I used this information to install a new HU on my 01 mustang actually. I was confused about the second plug (the one with the RCA's)
    I had never seen anything like that before, Once I saw this I realised it was just a remote wire for the factory amps.
    Thank you very much.

  • @lastmoto777

    Pierce The smaller harness will plug into the smaller plug from the car that used to plug into the back of your mach 460 stereo. The RCA plugs plug into the new stereo marked front. And the blue wires connect to the blue wire from the new stereo wiring harness. I hope this helps.

    Great tutorial. Finally after 8 years, I was able to hook up a nicer BT stereo. Everything in this tutorial was correct except when I hooked the RCA jacks to front, I did not get any bass to the back speakers. Once I hooked the RCA's to the rear it worked fine. Thanks for helping me upgrade my out of date stereo! Kudos

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great . Glad this helped. What I am noticing from lots of comments, is some stereos favor the front and some the back on the RCA plugs. I guess that depends on the aftermarket stereo that you have. Anyway. glad it works now !

  • @lastmoto777
    @lastmoto777  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whatever stereo you choose will be fine. I used a Pioneer.
    The speakers are rated at 4 ohms total. I am not a tech person so. All I know is this will work and sound great.
    If you just use the rca plugs on the back of your radio that will be an acceptable pre-amp source for your mach 460 system. The pre- amp out to the plug harness will work very well.
    By the way the kit for an 04 Mustang is the Metra 70-5521 not the 70-5519

    Thank you for this. I've been trying to find an adapter that worked for my 04 stang for weeks with no luck. Auto places kept trying to give me different adapters and none of them worked at all, best buy wanted to charge me one of my kids souls to do it professionally. Never had issue like this with fords before now, glad you guys were explicit about the adapter.

      Glad the video helped. We went through the same thing you did . When we finally figured it out, we made the video because we figured that everybody else had to be running into the same problem! The correct Metra kit is not going to be at walmart ! Although they have a chart that says that they have the correct kit. They dont ! Best buy carries Metra ,but they usually don't have this kit in stock. Crutchfield.com has it.

      lastmoto777 hey if I replace this stock stereo with pioneer can I take the casing to screw together the pioneer with the same 2 screws that I used to take out the stock mach 460. and if not where would I get the plate adapter or whatever the casing is called so I can screw together the pioneer into the car?

    • @Cristov123
      @Cristov123 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr. megashot47 You should be able to just buy a dash kit from wal mart or any electronics store to fit your car. Should just be a plastic casing that you can screw into place and then slide your aftermarket stereo in once you've wired it all up. I bought mine at wal mart for about 16 bucks, worked like a charm.

    The 02 uses a different harness. You need the Metra 705519 kit. Yes it hooks up exactly the same except for 1 thing. On the second smaller power amp & Sub plug there will be two grounds instead of one. Just make sure to connect them both to the stereo ground wire from your new radio harness. That should do it. One extra ground wire is the only difference. Good luck.

Would it use this 70-5519 also? Do I need the 3rd plug or is this the power for the cd player? the Metra 70-5701 looks just like what I would need ut not pulling up for my specific car. Great video, but please correct the part number. In the video you say the only harness that will work is the Metra 70-5519. But, the correct harness for a 2004 Mustang with the Mach 460 system is the Metra 70-5521. I went out and bought the 70-5519 based on this video and was disappointed when it didn't fit. Otherwise, great instructions on removing the dash panel and head unit.

      @@lastmoto777 yes I was just about to make a comment on the 5519 being for 01-03 and the 5521 being for 04 to I forgot what metra told me when I called them a minute ago. But yes the 5519 will not plug up to an 04-up's plug. I made a post yesterday in a group and was told that it might be because I used the 5521 instead of the 5519 and I was like wires alone should not have made a difference if they both look the same but just different numbers lol. Anyway it's confirmed that they are different in how they plug up physically and I'm glad to know that my problem with deepness of the bass is likely because I have the RCA's in the sub out vs the front out. I will change swap them around

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the blue wire will be for the antenna switch. When you turn it on what it does is tell the amps to turn themselves on. The same way it would tell the antenna to go up. Not actually supply power for the amps. You are kind of tricking the amps into turning themselves on. But it works.

      Ummm. .. All radios are a little different but it doesn't sound right to me. The blue wire coming from your New stereo should be for the antenna switch. That's the only one that should be connected to the two blue wires from the metra kits smaller plug. ( that would be three wires total connected together ) You need to connect that to the two blue wires from the smaller Metra harness plug. When you turn it on what it does is tell the amps to turn themselves on. The same way it would tell the antenna to go up. Not actually supply power for the amps. You are kind of tricking the amps into turning themselves on. But it works. Good luck with that.

    • @lastmoto777

      On your smaller Metra plug just connect thr blue and blue/white wires together and wrap tape around them. Then just connect the blue wire from your aftermarket stereo that is for your power antenna to these other two blue wires on the smaller plug.
      This is what is happenning.when you start the car it powers your power antenna. That then powers the switch that turns your speaker amps on. Then the amps. get powered from the cars wiring harness. The amps ar not powered by these little blue wires. Just recieving the signal to turn the amps on. Best of luck with it.

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      L Sanchez If you dont have any electrical tools, crimps, or a soldering iron you can just strip the ends of the three wires and twist them together then wrap them with electrical tape. The blue /white wire from the stereo electrical harness may be marked accesory / remote or antenna. Don't let this throw you, it just sends a signal to your amps to turn themselves on. Good luck with that.

      lastmoto777 if those get wired to the stereo, what do I do with the blue/white wire coming from the car (04 mach 460)? Thanks for any help!

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There should only be plugs coming from your car. The smaller Metra plug will have the blue wires on them. The smaller plug will plug into the small plug coming from your car. Just hook them to the blue wire from your new stereo ( that will probably be marked antenna ) I know this seems odd, but it works. Good luck with that.

    so I have a 2000 gt mustang the speakers at the windows say mach 460 Ijust bought the car the previous owner had a single din as it comes jvc aftermarket in. I was told I could buy a 2001 bezel and modify inside a little to make it work and put a navigation double din in. Pulled the bezel off and radio out and I had noticed the sound quality sucked so undoubtly they basically well i say it appears that they bypassed the mach system and no bass really at all. I bought a cheap boss navigation system. What else do I need to buy to make this all work and reroute thru the mach system? can you email me and i can send you pics of the plugs that i have in the dash now.

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jessica you actually sound more knowledgeable than I am about this stuff. With a fancier stereo. I know one thing. the stereo will sound beyond pathetic if it doesnt go through the amps first. Also the amps must be turned on.The skinny blue wires from the smaller plug. they dont power the amps. they just tell the amps to turn themselves on so they have to be connected.
      I dont know the answer for your 00 Mach radio, but I know who will be able to help. Crutchfield electronics. Call 1-800-319-8264 If you can tell them the year, and Mach stereo model ( mach, mach 460, mach 500 etc. ) they will be able to help.They carry whatever you need and at a decent price. I just installed a Aftermarket Stereo, I have a 03 mustang with mach 460 system I found out the 03 required me to get the 70-5519 rather then the 70-5521 I got the 5521 and did not fit

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      In 03 they switched to a newer generation Mach Stereo system.The 21 is supposed to fit ,but there are some 03s that had the previous generation Mach system and harness installed.Because Ford probably had thousands of the older generation stereos still on the shelf and they were not going to throw them away.We have a 08 Malibu that is full of some new and some older generation electrical parts. It can be frustrating when you;re trying to repair something. I am glad you got it figured out though.

    • @Darklwizard34
      @Darklwizard34 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +lastmoto777 Yeah, your right they tend to mix 2 years together in earlier models for most vehicles. Unfortunately not just the stereo. I have worked on some with 2 diffrent exhaust layouts in the same year just trial and error in some cases just wanted to post for anyone with a 03 not to expect the 21 to work. Good job on the tutorial, was easy to understand and how to remove the dash to get access to it. Btw I will ignore the comment with you comparing a Chevy with a ford. Lol

    I bought a new after market HU to install in my friends 2004 Mustang.
    I also bought the Metra 70-5521 wire harness kit.... On the back of the new HU there are 2 sets of RCA jacks Rear & Front... I am told this is for the amps.
    The smaller wire harness included in the Metra 70 5521 has 2 RCA plugs (1 white, 1 red)... a stereo shop said he thinks the red & white RCA plugs coming off the Metra 70 5521 "should probably" connect to the "Rear" RCA jacks on the back of the HU... but in this YT video she says to connect the Metra 70 5521 RCA plugs to the "Front" RCA jacks on the new HU. Anyone know which advice I should follow? Thx

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used the one marked front and it worked good. Your HU is a little different than ours though. Our 2 sets of RCA plugs were marked front & Subs. Yours is marked font & Rear. I bet they will both work fine. I would hook it up and try it both ways with the stereo still hanging by the harness by your shift stick. We did that and the ones marked front sounded great, but the ones marked subs sounded really bad. I hope that helps and good luck with that.

    • @MrBquarto

    • @lastmoto777
      @lastmoto777  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be a couple of things. 1st check to see that the blue wires that are part of the RCA plugs are getting power to them from the stereo.( these are the ones that will turn the amps on ) they supply power to the amp switches so they can turn themselves on. 2nd check the fuses associated with the Amps. If its not that you may have a blown amp or two.Best of luck with that. Before you replace an amp though . I would call Crutchfield electronics. They are way smarter than me! Call 1-800-319-8264 If you can tell them the year, and Mach stereo model ( mach, mach 460, mach 500 etc. ) they will be able to help.They carry whatever you need and at a decent price. Check your fuses for the amps. The owners manual will show you which one. There are 3 different amps for the system. If the fuses are good it is possible that one or more of the amps are burned out. Hope this helps.

    • @lastmoto777

      The blue wire coming from your JVC will be for the antenna switch. You need to connect that to the two blue wires from the smaller Metra harness plug. When you turn it on what it does is tell the amps to turn themselves on. The same way it would tell the antenna to go up. Not actually supply power for the amps. You are kind of tricking the amps into turning themselves on. But it works.We tried this 3 times with three different kits before we got it to work right! The Metra 70-5521 is the one you need on a 04 not the 19.! .... The other Brand Kits.. WILL NOT WORK!!!.... Good luck with that.

I had to modify the pins from a Scosche FDK9B which was the correct fit, but use the pins from the metra mentioned in this video. It was a nightmare. Don't wish this on my worst enemy. There must be a harness out there somewhere for this. Ford and their stupid Mach systems, way over engineered. I think there is a bunch of different style Mach systems. @TAnderson1987 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Gunter You need to remove the back seat and the seat back itself. The back seat has 2 plastic buttons you push in with a screwdriver under the center of each seat. The seatback has two bolts, one on each side and the clips pop out at the top. Remove that and the two amps are there.
      They have two connectors. Remove them. There are then 4 11mm bolts, some only have two, two which you can see and two in the trunk behind the cover you can pull up.
      The amps are the same so try to swap them, if the bass works when you swap them, one of your amps is blown. Do everything in reverse order to put the car back together.

      Um. I am not sure. I would say it would be the same . It is just more wattage and 2 more speakers, but I would guess the kit would be the same.( Metra 70 5521). The video says 70-5519 but you need the 70-5521. Best of luck with it.

    The 04 in my car had just two,but the radio had a place for three.
    The 2000 Mustang has 3 plugs. I think you probably have a upgraded radio package that is not the same. I dont know the answer for your radio, but I know who will be able to help.
    Crutchfield electronics. Call 1-800-319-8264 If you can tell them the year, and stereo model they will be able to help.They carry whatever you need and at a decent price.
    Their website also has helpful instructions. They will help you. Good luck.

    You can buy it from crutchfield . com ( 800-319-8264 to order by phone.), If you have a decent radio shop locally they will probably have it.
    The 04 takes the 705521 . the 01-02 takes the metra 705519.

      felipe tamayo The 03 and 04 get the same kit. The Metra 70 5521 . It will be a kit with 2 plugs.Ours is an 04 w Mach460 system and it fit ours. If you are unsure it will fit take some close up pics of the plugs and bring them to a local car audio shop to make sure. They may have the kit you need as well. Good luck with that.
