WOW As a Pro I didn't even know that! And I did a lot of these cars but we always talked them out of the whole factory system and did all new speakers too. The reputation the shop had the customers did what we said almost always.

@@Peeteetskeet The two blue and white wires get spliced together and goto the power output wire from the volt39. The two black and white are grounds for the amp. I didn’t hook mine up but everything sounds good. I just installed a navigation/dvd double din in my 03 GT and got all the harnesses and spent 3 hours soldering the harness last night and installed radio today. In this video his amp harness doesn’t have the black and white wires, so I didn’t use mine. But I’m not sure if they need to be grounded or not.
For those curious how to drop the resistance with resistors, you can get two 1.2k ohm resistors, twist and end of each together leaving you a y shape. The bottom of the y (where they are connected, goes to amp turn on from the radio, one of the top legs of the y to ground and the other to the cars amp turn on. That's a voltage divider and works most of the time, worst case scenario the pop is much quieter.
Great video, I wish you slowed down a bit, had to keep reversing the video to catch everything. Also wish your customer had chosen a sirius radio add on and navigation deck as now I have to find a youtube video showing how to install and location of the mic for the deck, the gps thingy and sat radio antenna for my 2004 Mustang GT convertible.
There's a simple way and a two more complex ways to do it. I did the easy way, which is to buy the 01-04 shifter bezel and also the trim bezel to use to mount the new double din to directly. Then get your double din radio and the plastic kit that you would use to mount it into an 01-04. Check the frame fitment to the trim bezel, I had to dremel mine slightly for best fitment. Then mount the plastic kit to the radio to keep it in square with the radio as that's how it's going to look in the car. Next comes the most tedious part, JB Weld the plastic kit/frame to the actual trim bezel that clips into the dash. Take your time and do this carefully. This is where the fitment with the dremel from earlier helps to make sure you have good contact for a good cure and hold. Let the whole cure and now your radio and bezel are one piece, unless you unscrew the radio from the plastic kit which is easy and is how you change to a new radio years later if you decide to do so, so they aren't completely permanently attached. Now you need to prep the dash for the new bezel. Remove all the factory stuff, shift bezel, trim bezel, radio, cd player and the mounting rail that those go on that's bolted to the sub dash. Now cut off the ears on each side of the dash as they get in the way of the double din going in so if you decide to do this there is no going back to stock with this exact dash. Keep test fitting the dash and dremeling as necessary for best fitment. This may work fine for a long time as the trim bezel can just about rest on the lower shifter bezel to help support the weight off the air vents up top. I however also cut a piece of wood to exact size to slip in the side from the passenger footwell to go inbetween the bottom of the double din and the top of the front factory amp. The more complex way to do it is to buy a complete 01-04 dash and swap it in, it's only a few bolts but you will have to disconnect and take everything out maybe even center console included. The most complex way to do it would be to either go to a junkyard and cut out the part of the sub dash needed and weld it in or make your own and weld it in. Oh also the traction control button will need to be changed as it's not located on the newer shifter bezel but up on the trim bezel. You can use the old shift bezel but it doesn't seem to line up as well. I'm still working on wiring mine in, I don't drive my car very often so I haven't been in a rush to get it finished but if you need help you can find me on insta @cotaylor16 also have pictures of what I did so you can visually see what I mean. Best of luck.
Lots of great information here, but there is a glaring mistake. The title of this clip addresses installing a double-din head unit for 2000 - 2004 Mustangs, however it only applies to 2001 - 2004 Mustangs. The 2000 and earlier Mustangs have a completely different dash configuration structurally requiring MAJOR modifications to install a double-din head unit. Even Crutchfield doesn't list this as a fitment option without major warnings. I moved from a 2003 Mustang to a 2000 Mustang thinking my new uninstalled double-din unit would work without problems. Not so due to the change in the Mustang dash support brackets after the 2000 model year.

One thing I've noticed in every video about these installs is that no one connects the long light green wire to the parking brake. If I read my written info correctly, the light green wire can be attached directly to the ground which is what happens when the parking brake is activated. I'll be doing my install tomorrow and will verify that with my multimeter
There's a third OEM harness for my Mach 460 system and if I'm reading the wiring diagrams correctly that third OEM harness is a speed sensor input that controls the OEM head units volume (there's a setting for it). Apparently, the aftermarket units don't have that option.
It looks like the stock radio is what I have with the 6 CD changer. When I went to replace mine, there were 3 connectors and an antenna lead on the back of the stock radio. This video doesn't really say what all the connectors are for. The main one with the power connections and the antenna are a no-brainer but I'm wondering about the other 2 connectors. I believe one of those is for the subwoofers but I don't know what the other one is. I don't have an amplified subwoofer system. Looks like I need to install one more connector for the subwoofers since my system has no bass since installing my Pioneer. Otherwise this video was helpful even though it was fast paced. One other thing, my Pioneer has a DVD player which requires a parking brake connection (if you want to watch DVD's) so that you can watch DVD's when parked. I haven't found a video that provides instructions for connecting that wire.
@@joshkhayes It's a speed sensor input. It's used to adjust the volume of the audio to try to compensate for road noise. There's no speed sensor input on any of the aftermarket radios that I have looked at.

10k ohm resistor I believe works. Lets see been a few years Brown, black, red, gold I looked to ck after putting down its correct, that gives you just under 2 volts from 12 volts or 14.4 VDC it will turn a amp on in that car. You should isolate it with a diode too the band faces the amp away from the radio. Use a 10 amp diode. Radio ------I--- Amp this way positive current will only flow to the amp from the radio and negative current will flow from the amp to the radio. hook like this radio -----I--I--I--I---/-----I---- Amp or Radio resistor diode amp.

Trying to install a pioneer stereo but it’s not the same model. I color coded all the wires, plugged it in and the radio didn’t turn on. Does that mean that the pac volt 39 is necessary?
If the radio did not power up you need to check you yellow and red wires for 12 volt. Check the black for ground. The volt 39 is to just prevent turn on pop from the factory amp.
Omg! I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what I was doing wrong with my Mach sound system and why my subs were not working And you answered the problem plain as day! Dean, you're wearing a jacket? What's the temp there when this was filmed, like 65? (hehe) Here in Utah it's been in the teens in the morning and mid 30's during the day.
soldering is a waste of time! twist the wires together and use crimp caps Klein Crimpers the kind that put a divot in the crimp. you get the very same outcome for resistance and the black tape won't come off because of heat. The factory uses Crimps the don't even tape the connection just wrap the whole harness Seen that on a few cars. Non insulated crimps even. I think that was a Chevy cavalier above the driver kick in a main wire harness from the firewall. But I've seen it in fords too.
Soldering does help a lot actually, especially if your in cold climates with high humidity, a heat shrink wrapped solder joint wont corrode as had as a twisted electrical taped one, I know from experience lol
i took off the door panels and put in my 6x8 in the door where the old one was. I put in a after market radio as well. My question is the 6x8 i put in has to use the wires from the tweeter above it? or only if i keep the factory radio in? thanks in advance for anyone that knows the answer.

Hey, great video man! Really helping me out with my 04 mustang right now. Quick question for u though. If u cant get a BHA5800r harness is there another harness that would do the same thing that u could substitute for it???

Were does the blue n white amp wire connect to a power or leave it alone
So I have Mach 460 system with a aftermarket pioneer radio in my 2001 mustang convertible. If I buy a subwoofer with the tweeter integrated into the subwoofer can I just disconnect the old subwoofer and put the new one in, in the lower front door?
I have a Sony MEX-N4200BT radio to try and replace with the stock radio in my 1999 convertible Mustang GT, will I need to purchase anything else in order to successfully change these out? I'm a little scared to try it without a really good guide and confirmation on some information.
My 03 cobra has 3 plugs for the mach system..what's the 3rd one for?

Hey guys, I just watch this and I gotta tell ya, when I need to do something, I'll be lookin to y'all first!!! GREAT vid, WELL DONE. One question though the part number you referenced was for 03 and later, the vid says 00-04 if i'm working on an 00 is the plug different?

I was hoping it was the two single dins like mine. I wanted to see a legit conversion to double din from you guys.

Same here!
How would you do a subwoofer install if you are using the sub pre out for the stock speakers lol
Rca splitters
What would cause my rear speakers to cut out when the stereo is turned up?
I'm going to try using Waco lever connector instead of soldering.
I have a cobra 2001 how much will cost a double din radio cost ? Which size on the radio ?
I recently tried installing an aftermarket head unit into my 2002 mustang with the mach sound system, I got it hooked up and it turns on and I can hear sound while clicking through radio menus but I can’t seem to get sound from any source, radio, usb, etc. any ideas what it could be?

HI THERE GREAT JOB....I HAVE A QUESTION BC I SEE THAT YOU USE ALPINE SUBWOOFERS..WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE ALPINE W12S4 12 INCH SUBS...?I WANT TO USE 2 OF THESE IN MY HOMTHEATER \MUSIC ROOM....JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK OF THEM..?THANK YOU
I used 4 of them in a Theater room once, it was really nice.
please link a video of the speaker install if you have done a video.
Good job on the radio but that steering wheel cover. Dammmm
I usually run speaker wires right off the radio to the speakers
Trying to install a pioneer stereo but it’s not the same model. I color coded all the wires, plugged it in and the radio didn’t turn on. Does that mean that the pac volt 39 is necessary?
If the radio did not power up you need to check you yellow and red wires for 12 volt. Check the black for ground. The volt 39 is to just prevent turn on pop from the factory amp.
Five Star Car Stereo checked the wires. Both have a voltage coming through but radio is still not turning on
Man thx u so much for the video i have a 96 mustang thx for explaining
Omg! I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what I was doing wrong with my Mach sound system and why my subs were not working And you answered the problem plain as day! I am glad that I saw this video because I am also installing a pioneer deck as well and almost totally effed up trying to get my sound to come through the subs when they weren’t designed that way... and all I needed was a couple of adapters to complete my pioneer install! THANK YOU!!!
Can you explain what you saw I just put a radio in my car today and get no sound out of the mach 1000 subs in the trunk just the doors and deck
do i need the pac volt 39?
You don’t need it, but I can’t stress how annoying the pop is if you don’t have it
Do you need an Amp Bypass for this?
At 6 minutes 54 seconds you mentioned a red white wire connect to the sub blue white wires. I don't get it?
I have an 00 mustang with Mach sound system, but the stereo has been replaced. There are pops, alternator whine, passenger side tweeter is off, and funny bopping sounds sometimes. Would someone help me with these?! It driving me crazy
Power wire located to close to altinator. Bad ground from deck
So I have a 2003 Mustang but it has 3 wire plugs on it???
Dean, you're wearing a jacket? What's the temp there when this was filmed, like 65? (hehe) Here in Utah it's been in the teens in the morning and mid 30's during the day.
Nope, I’m good. 65 works for me.
Do you have to redo the wires?
Byyyyyyye. Nando sounds all seductive. Lol. Anokther Good one.
Haha, thanks
soldering is a waste of time! twist the wires together and use crimp caps Klein Crimpers the kind that put a divot in the crimp. you get the very same outcome for resistance and the black tape won't come off because of heat.
I replaced it and put in a single din on mines but there is no sound. Anyone know why?
Luisa Perez same here . I have the exact same kit without the pac . No sound , no pop nothing
Did you disconnect the seperate cd player din?
I removed everything and have bought all the kits offered . Still nothing . I’m about to run all new wires
Cause when i disconnect the cd player i dont get nothing was thinking about running new wires and just getting rid of the mach 460 system
i took off the door panels and put in my 6x8 in the door where the old one was. I put in a after market radio as well. My question is the 6x8 i put in has to use the wires from the tweeter above it? or only if i keep the factory radio in? thanks in advance for anyone that knows the answer.
IM WONDERING THE SAME THING DID YOU FIGURE IT OUT???
I’m not getting any power ?. Like it’s not lighting up
What if you don’t have red white wire
“Sedan” ...... lol
coupe* please
you know there is such a thing as a 2 door sedan
My dude, Ford didn't made no sedan version of Mustang. Only coupes and convertibles.
01-04**
Mustangs are either Coupe or convertible not a sedan
Well actually it's kinda odd they are classed as a sedan for some reason. It's on my registration and insurance papers
Overly complicated electrical system in a Ford... No way!?!?!?
I know right
Talking way too fast boooo
He rushed a video, would have been a good video if it was not rushed

Quit saying "its got." You bobblehead, learn to speak correctly, say "it has."
Your explanation of the wiring was way to fast
