    Kerri has a 2005 Jeep LJ and to my Surprise it has disc brakes and a Dana 44 rear axle. She was suffering a Axle seal leak and needed some help repairing it. So she got her coveralls on and I taught her how to replace the seal and bearing. The thing is with the Dana 44 axle you cannot replace the seal unless you replace the bearing as well as you need to cut the bearing off.

    I like how you used a drill to pop off the retainer.

    Thanks for the video. I think that you did a great job. Short consice. One problem I had was with the lock ring as when I was pressing it on the ring created burs on the shaft. Do you have any comments on that.

    No C clips I didn't know that, would you know if the Dana 86 used the same system.

    After new bearing and seal installation how much axle play it is acceptable?

    I have to tackle this chore this weekend. Looks fun enough. one question though. previous owner had Eaton e locker installed which is great but does this shaft have a C clip in the pumpkin that needs removal first? My passenger side has the very same problem this one has. I watched your other video of replacing the inner seal. Lots of labor for a cheap part. hopefully I don't need that.

    Hey Jerry, two of my retaining bolts are spinning on the driver's side. What are your recommendations for removing and replacing those?

    • @Ben-lo7cy
      @Ben-lo7cy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tanner Wyant I had to cut mine off and get new ones. I was breaking down a jk axle to get set up for my tj and 6 of the 8 studs on the retainer plate spun on me

      +Robert Bellamy it is a LJ I wish mine was a LJ for the extra length

    Snatch up an LJ now if you want one, they're getting harder to find. I picked up my 05 in 2010, I don't think I'll ever sell it. It actually came from Canada!

    • @TestDontguess
      @TestDontguess  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +uncleben03 they are pretty hard to find but for what' it's worth i'd still rather have a JK much more space and something newer to build

    When my axel came out the bearings were pretty loose already, I think I found why it was leaking...

    You don’t use torque spec’s?

    So the Dana44 doesn't need to be opened up to remove the axle?

    • @TestDontguess

      prehaps or maybe the seal surface is damaged

    • @wesleyvermeulen7896
      @wesleyvermeulen7896 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something you did wrong?
      Yeah, something that we all did wrong. We bought cheap, I mean jeep. Reality is this entire bearing/seal/plate is a junior engineer design. Thank you chrysler for more proof you don't have a QA department.
