Oh my goodness, that CAPE!!! I once found a deep orange gown covered in gold beading and embroidery from top to bottom, from the 1950s- and here's the thing, I'm a 6'1" giantess with shoulders like a footballer and hips like a matron. I'm a giant woman. So finding vintage ANYTHING that fits? Impossible, and yet, there it was, an off-the-shoulder vintage gown in my colours that felt like it weighed 15lbs and it fit me! I paid a small fortune for it and wore it to the vintage christmas ball in town. I was so excited!!
So glad you could find this lovely cape ! Thought it is always unnerving to have to spend so much to find clothes that fits (I really feel you, pants never go past my bottoms and I’ve inherited my father shoulder)
For people who struggle to leave the house but want to shop small - websites like Etsy and NotOnTheHighStreet are great and convenient places to find small businesses and independent artists who will deliver to your door. Especially recommend Etsy for finding individual art pieces.
nonsenseandglitter oh definitely! Plus a lot of people who make things for Etsy are disabled or otherwise marginalized and you’re helping someone else out in addition to not having to leave your home when it’s difficult or impossible for you. Also it helps to buy from independent sellers rather big corporations. That way if you do need to buy from a big corporation, you can do so sparingly.
I like wrapping in brown paper and decorating it for each recipient. By hand, of course. It's so much fun to do, usually sitting in front of an old movie like "White Christmas", and ever so much fun when the gifts are pulled from under the tree and each person recognises him- or herself in the wrapping paper.
Hello in the last comment section I said my goal was to watch all the vlogmas videos because my anxiety has gotten so bad I’m lying in bed all day so far I have watched all of them love your vids happy holidays Edit : thanks everyone for being so nice
All the love and strength to you (I’ve been on the downside lately too, Jessica’s vlogmas are really great to feel better, your goal is lovely and I hope it will help you in the long run !)
Thank you so much for watching! To win a copy of '1950s in Vogue': be subscribed to this channel, follow me on Instagram (instagram.com/JessicaOutOfTheCloset) and leave a comment on this video with your IG handle letting me know which of my gift ideas you liked the best. The winners will be chosen on the 18th December 2019. Good luck! xxx
I keep the packing paper when we order packages online and use that to wrap gifts when I have to [honestly I prefer to use gift bags instead of wrapping things, as it's easier for the recipient to reuse the bag].
This might be a strange thing to say, but I could listen to Jessica talk all day long. Just the way she says bobble makes me so warm and fuzzy inside, and her voice is so relaxing. I LOVE this video❤️
My parents started exchanging ornaments/baubles when they were at University with friends of theirs, and they've continued doing it. Our Christmas tree is a cacophony of colors and styles but every one has a memory attached to it. My favorite are the German glass balls from the 1800s that my great grandfather's family brought when they moved to America, and the little wooden bear that looks like my favorite childhood stuffed animal.
I recommend going to pop-up holiday markets! You have lots of local small shops in one place, and usually you find stuff that you cannot get anywhere else. They also usually have a sitting area with snacks and cider if you need a rest.
The lead toys part reminded me that I was once watching a news story about that, but the subtitles said "the Tories contain dangerous levels of lead" 😅
Yes older christmastree baubles are always so pretty, my family has a couple from both sides of the family that is from my parents childhood and we love them. When I was a kid I was not aloud to thouch them, my ADHD made me less aware of were my bodyparts were and I was always suffering from fumbly hands problems. Many things broke during my childhood because of that, my parents learnt quickly to tell me not to touch any loved breakable stuff.
That cape was just gorgeous! I think my favourites from this video was the cape and those baubles. I love vintage decorations, I have a few of my nana’s from the 50’s that I always use amongst the eclectic collection we have. It’s always my way of having her around for the holidays. 🎄 Much joy to you and happy holidays 🌈 *Hugs* from Penticton BC 🇨🇦
We always reused out wrapping paper starting when I was a kid. We would use a pair of scissors to cut the tape so as not to tear the paper. It was fun to try to remember what was wrapped in it the year before. You want to use tags that you tape on and not those self adhesive ones.
I have gift bags from ten years ago. My son and I haven't bought gift wrapping in a very long time. Love the cape. It's beautiful. So glad you bought it.😀🎄
I always get a fancy bauble from my mother for christmas. They arent vintage, but my mom usually finds ones that are hand painted and are themed around the year. They bring a lot of elegance to my little 4ft fake tree in my cheap apartment :)
Toys like legos can also been washing in the washing machine, just put it in a bag or a pillowcase to prevent it damaging the machine. And I've done a fair bit of my Christmas shopping in charity shops, and always have. I have also been known to regift things I'm never going to use. And of course the best option is handmade items (and thanks to the internet there are tutorials for literally any craft at any skill level).
Jessica, I loved this day 14 of Vlogmas. In the past, because of finances, I have purchased presents. My late niece loved any accessories and or music related photos, miniature musical instruments etc. that were no longer available in retail. I also bought dolls and outfits. Goodwill and The Salvation Army are quite fun to look at. I did find for myself a miniature fully decorated Christmas tree. I ended up giving it to my mother a number if years ago. Thank you for reminding me of the virtually endless ideas for Christmas presents. 🎁🎁🎁❄❄❄
I have been wrapping my presents in fabric since around 2008. It looks great. I recommend cotton, so if your father is like mine and drops red wine on it, you can just throw it in the wash. By the way, that golden compass was a geologist's compass, it's used to make measurements of slopes.
I've done brown paper wrapping, and it's fun! I decorated it with colored markers in holiday themes, and used brown twine as the ribbon. Some very interesting bows came from the twine.
The little shops in England, I miss them so much. Treasures abound in those wonderful places. Austin has some unique shops but it 's not the same. I am taking my husband to an English Tea shoppe this coming week for all things English. This was so much fun, and that cape is fantastic. I went for a 1900's Parisian Black ornate coat beyond gorgeous that I will be wearing at my upcoming show. It's so incredible, they don't make clothes the way they used to with so much pride and care. Thanks for taking us shopping. Glad your feeling better.
Several chronic illnesses (mental and physical) and this time of year, going outside is something I reserve for when I absolutely really have no choice and must do it. Also one of the poor unfortunate souls that doesn't benefit from therapy. So I craft. Which means at least one person gets a crafted gift for Christmas. It keeps me occupied and they get something made with love. Win win.
That antique shop looks lovely though the ducklings made me sad. My favorite gift from the video is the baubles you bought just because of the memories they brought up. My parents put up a special tree in the sitting room that has my grandmothers glass ornaments from the 1950s. They're a mix of glass animals/baubles so her tree was always multicolored. it's a great way to remember her and my grandfather every year. You're right, using them every year (with careful hands) is much better than leaving them shut up in a box and never seeing them. I'm US based, so probably not eligible for the contest so I won't leave my handle, but I really loved this video!
Jessica, you are cracking me up! My son, Josh, manages to need presents all through December, even when I yell, "That's one less present under the tree!" The cape is perfect.
I was recently looking through my grandmother's jewelery and saw a cameo brooch. I didn't think much of it until this video. It is actually very beautiful!
I am a bargain hunter. It's one of my main hobbies. As Jessica shows, antique shops are great resources. Other ideas are yard sales (boot sales), flea markets, thrift shops (charity shops) and estate sales. I have acquired some seriously good deals at estate sales. Just yesterday I bought a *haul* of vintage and antique tools for $15. Any one of which in a shop would have cost that. Plus you get to legally wander around inside of someone else's house!
That cape is so gorgeous!! It's a once in a lifetime find. Always loved antique stores... they're like time capsules. Really want to go back to my local op shop when I move to my next house.
this video makes me excited because i'm going to see my girlfriend in a few days in europe and we're going to have a lovely holiday, the environment in his video really reminds me of what the nearby towns in her area are like!
Have you ever heard about Lilien Porcellan? There was a Collection called „Daisy“ which was very popular in Austria and Germany in the 50‘s. Pretty pastell colours. 💕 I‘m so happy that i‘ve collected them
Everything was so beautiful and you looked so lovely ! You have and incredible gift of spreading so much joy in the world ! You and Claudia are so very blessed to have each others. ❤😎🌲
That William Morris mug set is an absolute winner, I hope your mum loves it! I've been looking for one myself for my own mum for ages but they can be tricky to find.
Instead of brooches (to say I am accident-prone would be an understatement), I use small decorated (with beads or silk flowers) hair (snap-on) clips on shoes or bags. So glad Jessica bought the cape. Assuming you can afford it, I am always an advocate of buying statement clothing or accessories when they appear. That cape can travel from a shopping expedition to a formal party.
I love your videoa and they have really helped. Since starting high school I have really struggled with anxiety . I love your videos and I'm just hoping that going into my 3rd year I might be ableto take control of this anxiety Love you so much XXX Keep being amazing
I hope you get better soon ❤️ You’ve just got to power through the last year and be kind to yourself (like taking loads of breaks, cuddling up with your teddy bear and watching videos like this) I was struggling in highschool too but now I’m studying art and feeling so much better 😊
Wrapping paper is sort of recyclable, in that, in our house we buy the more expensive thick, sturdy wrapping paper, and then are very careful when opening presents and peeling the sellotape off and then reuse them year after year. It does cost a lot less than buying new cheap wrapping paper every year, and I always get frustrated opening presents in that paper because it always tears and we can't reuse it! Great video as always, my cat loves the sound of your voice (she's watching it with me).
If I want to remember something I will set a reminder. I know with google calendar you can set an event and have a reminder/alarm with it. I do that for long term stuff. For stuff within a week i just set an alarm for that day of the week with a memo that says what the alarm is for
Love the cape and the little bow brooch! I bought some vintage baubles last week - £4 for what seemed to be a box of just random baubles, but turned out to be a matching set of 12 (2x red, blue, green, yellow, pink and white) in what must be their original box, with a handful of others thrown in. From the 50s-70s, I think? I have a multi-colour tree so they're perfect. :)
I just dropped a wad on Bésame products less than an hour before watching this video. Allllll for me. Merry Christmas to my face! It’s my first time trying their cosmetics and I’m pretty tickled that they made your vintage gift list. Happy holidays and thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives.
I wrapped all my gifts in a 100% recycled matte black paper and with the bows and decorations all made of burlap ribbon, twine and dried plants. OTL There was a gosh darn effort this year.
Love second hand/antique shopping. I remember when my town would have giant garage sales. Hardly ever see garage sales anymore. 😕” One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Etsy and eBay are other great places to get second hand from the comfort of your internet. My latest thrift find was a rice China tea set. I also have a wool red cape that I still haven’t worn as I need to clean it!
A great way to shop small and help independent creators and artists without having to leave your house, is to get things from Etsy. A lot of sellers even offer low waste packaging options for shipping.
🤣.....Oh Jessica🙈, my favorite gift in this guide was the look on your face after that beautiful green chair popped when you sat down!! LOL...it was exactly the type of thing that would happen to me🤷🏼♀️! Honestly though, I almost fell over when you said the age & cost of that spectacular cape!! Even if you were to come across something that was slightly similar here in the US, it would easily cost over $1000.00! Something that is 170years old, still in wearable condition 😱, that is unfathomable. I was just looking at the Collectif " Claudia in Wonderland" coat w/a capelet & it is almost £200!! That was my favorite thing you bought, however; my favorite thing in the entire video were the brass "girl bells", one of which you picked up and rang, & there were an entire shelf of them!! I actually took a screenshot of the store name b/c I have been collecting this style of bell in all types of different material, where a female is the handle & her skirt makes up the actual 'bell casing' for the clapper to hit. I have been collecting them since I was about 5-6 & received one from my Aunt. Over the years my mom & I would go to antique shops, flea markets, auctions, etc. & my collection has outgrown a corner hutch that is 8 feet tall! (We’re talking about 33years of hunting, they aren’t easy to find in the US). They hold no monetary value, but memories of hunting bargains & bells w/my mom are priceless. FYI FOR ANYONE: You can go to IKEA & purchase rolls of plain white, printed white (only black ink outlines so it can be colored on w/crayons) & brown paper. They are usually in the children’s toy area near the art easel’s & all are recyclable!! Plus for any children, the coloring paper is a double gift! Win Win😉! Much Love to everyone 🤗💜🦋😘🐾🐾! @blueballerina1
Shop small and second-hand from the comfort of your own home on Etsy! Both handmade and vintage, plus you can filter to shops that are either in or ship to your specific country. 💛
I live close to the besame make-up store. Unfortunately I haven't gone there yet, but I have gone to the vintage clothes stores close by 😅 That whole street is full of vintage stuff
This year I'm using kraft paper for my presents to make sure that it can be recyclable! (I checked and everything, it's not the 'looks like kraft paper but is actually wrapping paper' gubbins) so.
I have one of those little taxidermy ducklings! His name is Lester and he’s quite sweet if not a little morbid. He died of natural causes and was turned into a little piece of art.
That cloak is amazing! But also the Victorian Clothing skeptics in me is saying that that cloak could be literally 1850s-1900s ... that shape was always vaguely in vogue as far as I know, but it certainly was popular in the 1850s.
You look extra amazing today! (Especially considering your state yesterday) It's truly magical how you pull yourself together in such a short amount of time!
11:39 Storytime: I once worked for the postal service. We processed boxes of live chicks. I convinced a co-worker that those tiny birds were the source of chicken nuggets. For several times after when the boxes came through..the co-worker would get upset. When I mentioned that I was just kidding, I got a swift punch in the arm. I guess I deserved it 😆🐣🐣
My parents have baubles just like that! They were originally my grandparents, a lot of the baubles that end up on my parent's tree were inherited from them. Now I'm wondering if they were just a popular design/made by a big company or somehow yours or mine managed to make it across the pond cause we're in Canada.
@chocomillionaire I also love finding cool gifts or gift receptacles at the thrift store. I do have creepy loving friends though. I also have a little collection of photo coffee books started. That one would be a great addition
Etsy has small businesses that you can buy online and amazon has a home made section where you can buy from artists. I don’t have Instagram (by choice) so I’m not entering but I loved the cups you got for your mother 🥰 very Art Deco
for sustainable gifts, etsy now offset all the carbon their deliveries produce, and of course everyone on etsy is a small business and you can set the filter to only show local (to your region, country or city) shops!
Oh my goodness, that CAPE!!! I once found a deep orange gown covered in gold beading and embroidery from top to bottom, from the 1950s- and here's the thing, I'm a 6'1" giantess with shoulders like a footballer and hips like a matron. I paid a small fortune for it and wore it to the vintage christmas ball in town. I was so excited!!
yasss
That is awesome! I feel you about loving the vintage look but not being a vintage size
This is like a Christmas fairy tale! I love it 🥰 Very happy for you!
So glad you could find this lovely cape ! Thought it is always unnerving to have to spend so much to find clothes that fits (I really feel you, pants never go past my bottoms and I’ve inherited my father shoulder)
IT WAS MEANT TO BE AND YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE

nonsenseandglitter oh definitely! Also it helps to buy from independent sellers rather big corporations. That way if you do need to buy from a big corporation, you can do so sparingly.
nonsenseandglitter Could probably also ask the seller to use newspaper or recycle-able items
WritingSchiozo101 yes like me! I lost my job due to my health and now I run an Etsy business from my house xxx
Jessica: Did I buy it?
Me: You better have.
Jessica: Of course I did!
Me: That's my girl!
Right? Lol as soon as she said what it was I was going "You bought that right? You better have bought that!" And then cheered when she held it up 😄
I needed me some Jessica today
You’re my favorite Disney princess.
I love to wrap in brown paper and pretend its "owl post " 😄 or for older relatives o buy scarves and wrap in those 😉 double the gift .
I like wrapping in brown paper and decorating it for each recipient. By hand, of course. Jessica Kellgren-Fozard thanks!
Ellie Tozer, get well soon 🌞 (been there too)
Nothing but love to you Lovely Person. Anxiety sucks but you got this, take your time and feel better soon. :)
All the love and strength to you (I’ve been on the downside lately too, Jessica’s vlogmas are really great to feel better, your goal is lovely and I hope it will help you in the long run !)
as soon as you said 'creepy realistic ducklings' I was thinking 'ohhhh no they're going to be actually real taxidermied ducklings'

Oh and my Instagram is Scorpiusblue and yes I follow all your channels 👍🏼
That dollhouse is sooo pretty! I always wanted one that opened in the front like that.
Jessica: maybe you have a gothy friend
Me: I am gothy friend and I want a creepy hand
Holoragium Mediocris yessss! Goths united for Jessica!

I can’t explain the feeling these videos give me, I love them so freaking much.🥺
I would adore any of those gifts! You could also use the scarf clips as dress clips at the neckline of your dresses!

TilDeathDoUsArtAK and I absolutely ADORED that cape! Gorgeous!
I can so relate to feeling over-excited when the pain levels decrease! :) Glad the lemsip is giving you a bit of a break!
That cape is so gorgeous!! It's a once in a lifetime find. Always loved antique stores... they're like time capsules. Really want to go back to my local op shop when I move to my next house.
Yes I love this unfortunately I can’t join but I don’t mind. My favourite gifts are giving to other people.
It’s not quite November yet, but remember to try the cloth wrapping this year!! ❤️
this video makes me excited because i'm going to see my girlfriend in a few days in europe and we're going to have a lovely holiday, the environment in his video really reminds me of what the nearby towns in her area are like!

RSPB sell wrapping paper you can recycle. It’s pretty too!
That William Morris mug set is an absolute winner, I hope your mum loves it! I've been looking for one myself for my own mum for ages but they can be tricky to find.

Paprchase does wrapping paper that be recycled - it's brown paper but with Christmas patterns on so it's not quite as plain as normal brown paper.
I love your videoa and they have really helped. Since starting high
school I have really struggled with anxiety . I love your videos and I'm just hoping that going into my 3rd year I might be ableto take control of this anxiety
Love you so much XXX
Keep being amazing
I hope you get better soon ❤️ You’ve just got to power through the last year and be kind to yourself (like taking loads of breaks, cuddling up with your teddy bear and watching videos like this) I was struggling in highschool too but now I’m studying art and feeling so much better 😊

I really like the pattern on the cups for your mother, (and capes are under-rated; I'm wearing one right now.)
That cape is simply devine!
That cape is breathtaking, Jessica! I’m so glad you bought it!
I have a 7 year and she loves watching your videos with me ☺️ she loves your accent and your vintage style . ☺️☺️

It’s my first time trying their cosmetics and I’m pretty tickled that they made your vintage gift list. Happy holidays and thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives.
Oh that set of cups was magic!
Oh, those "throne" chairs. We have a few and I've always wondered who decided to make chairs of that design. So over the top. 😂
I wrapped all my gifts in a 100% recycled matte black paper and with the bows and decorations all made of burlap ribbon, twine and dried plants. OTL There was a gosh darn effort this year.
I bought the most adorable vintage ice cream bowl set at the local OP shop the other day, I'm turning them into soy candles for Christmas gifts. 😊
Love second hand/antique shopping. I remember when my town would have giant garage sales. Hardly ever see garage sales anymore. 😕”
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Etsy and eBay are other great places to get second hand from the comfort of your internet.
My latest thrift find was a rice China tea set. I also have a wool red cape that I still haven’t worn as I need to clean it!
The Philadelphia Story is lovely!!
Nothing wrong with giving yourself a little something for Christmas. I have a copy of Pokémon Shield wrapped under the tree for myself.
It is so much fun watching you in a vintage store
A great way to shop small and help independent creators and artists without having to leave your house, is to get things from Etsy. A lot of sellers even offer low waste packaging options for shipping.
I love celebrating Christmastime with this channel. Thank you! 🎄
I live in the USA and at least in my city, we can recycle wrapping paper and tissue paper! They just started in the past year or two
Yay for the Cape! I am so glad you got it! Now it can have a wonderful home!
We put breakable baubles higher up the tree to save them from little ppl.
@blueballerina1
4:17 That looks like a geological compass! I've never seen a golden one before though, very fancy!
These bloopers are so hilarious lmao 😂
I love the Philadelphia Story!
I have one of those little taxidermy ducklings! His name is Lester and he’s quite sweet if not a little morbid. He died of natural causes and was turned into a little piece of art.
That cape is GORGEOUS. Great find!
Those vintage baubles are gorgeous. I’ve been on the lookout for those kind of decorations. 🌲 🔔
wow I never knew those baubles were that old, pretty sure my family have the exact same ones for our tree!
Bless you Jessica, you help my panic disorder so much. ♥️
Jessica: Yes, England really is like the films.
Also Jessica: Buys a red riding cape.
Awwww this is so cuuute! And your red outfit is so princess-like, i can’t handle it. The whole aesthetic of this video is so pleasing.
I guess I deserved it 😆🐣🐣
the cape is gorgeous
My parents have baubles just like that! They were originally my grandparents, a lot of the baubles that end up on my parent's tree were inherited from them.
Now I'm wondering if they were just a popular design/made by a big company or somehow yours or mine managed to make it across the pond cause we're in Canada.
@crystalizedspearman and that cape was beautiful! I love old fashion!!!
I don’t have Instagram (by choice) so I’m not entering but I loved the cups you got for your mother 🥰 very Art Deco
for sustainable gifts, etsy now offset all the carbon their deliveries produce, and of course everyone on etsy is a small business and you can set the filter to only show local (to your region, country or city) shops!
this OUTFIT is stunning oh my word ❤️
