May I just say that as crazy as the world is right now, listening to Jessica and Claudia going off on random tangents is one of the most comforting things around.
@Sankalp B No, it did not exist before the internet. It was started in 1997. The main difference at the beginning was that you ordered movies you wanted to rent online, they would mail them to you, and then you would return it whenever you wanted so you could get another rental. Unlike every other rental service, they never charged late fees and there weren’t store fronts that you could walk into. It was a movie delivery service where you weren’t penalized for keeping the movie for a while. :)
There is a story about spiderwebs on a Christmas tree, I can’t remember what country it comes from but my mom had a Christmas tree ornament that was a little glass spider that we always put at the top, and the story kind of goes that a family got a tree and didn’t have any decorations and that night a spider came and spun its web all over the tree and then in the morning when the sunlight hit the webs, they shone gold.
A long, long, time ago, in Germany, a mother was cleaning for Christmas. Spiders fled up into the attic to escape the broom. On quiet Christmas Eve, the spiders slowly came down for a peek. "Oh! What a beautiful Christmas tree!" They exclaimed. In excitement, they scurried up and along every branch. They were filled with happiness as they climbed amongst the glittering beauty. Alas, by the time they were finished, the tree was shrouded in their dusty grey web. When St. Nicholas came with gifts for the children, he saw the tree was covered in spider webs. He smiled because he knew how happy the spiders were, but he also knew the mother would be heartbroken to see the tree covered in webs. He used his magic and turned the webs to strands of silver, and the tree was even more beautiful than before. This is the story of tinsel and also why every tree should have a spider in its branches. 🕷🕷🕷
Hydrangeas can do really well in acidic soil. They are so fun bc the ph can effect the color. (Pink vs blue) and now I have done exactly what as expected of me 🤣
Rhododendrons and roses like acidic soil, (but I suspect rhododendrons aren't the right choice.) I've grown some lavender on aggressively acidic clay, (but that might have been an exception rather than a rule.)
Hydrangeas (the Hydr part of hydrangeas is indicative of their love of water) need a lot of water and will not grow in darkness, camellia, azalea and rhododendron are ericaceous (ie enjoy a soil ph of lower thrn 6.5) , but need water and light too. They will all wilt and die at the base of these trees as those trees will be using ALL the water in the surrounding soil (so much so it conifers have been known to cause subsidence by causing the soil to become really dry). There are some Ferns that will grow in deep shade and dry acid soil.
Jessica: as a bad memory Also Jessica: WE BOUGHT THIS BAUBLE SIX YEARS AND 27 MINUTES AGO AFTER YOUR WORK WHEN WE WENT TOGETHER HOW CAN YOU NOT REMEMBER Claudia: 👁👄👁
Mosses and ferns are super prevalent in redwood forests; they would likely work with other conifers as well. Also mushrooms if y'all were feeling a mushroom garden type situation. Good luck in your planting endeavors!
Flickering...ok, also, early animations were developed from flick-books (rapid sequencing).... Pre 'moving pictures' - revolving cylinder with sequential images (running horse was popular)... Image on the inside of the cylendar and you spun it round and looked through a viewing aperture... Sorry, boring myself now...
The "spiderwebs" on the christmastree are called Angels Hair (Engelshaar) in Germany...not sold anymore I would assume, as it had little glass particles in it. I remember as a kid, our neighbours had it in their tree and I Was faszinated, but it hurt touching it.
Even the plastic version is in low demand. Pets eat them and you can't save them really so it's just a one time use kind of thing and it's 2020 we don't vibe with killing the earth anymore
I'm so excited to be able to use my glass baubles on our tree this year, because our son is finally old enough (he will be 6 on new year's eve) to not mess with the tree!
I love how obsessed Jessica is with colour schemes - I really want to love colour schemes, I have a pink and white theme for my room but for the rest of my house my only goal is to look like the spirit of Christmas vomited into the home 😂 and it sparks such joy 😂😂😂😂 your tree looks great!!!
You could try growing mushrooms under the trees! They are really good for the other stuff growing there and you might be able to grow edible ones too, and theyre very pretty :)
I agree that red, green and gold is like the holy trinity of Xmas colour schemes, but I've really learned to appreciate blues whites and silvers which fits really nicely with my love for the snow and all things winter. Both schemes give me joy in different ways.
I love learning the stories behind your baubles! In my family each member has a unique ornament and on Christmas Eve all of us get to hang our ornament on the tree together 🎄
I’ve made my immediate family a new ornament each year for 10 years. Much like you we’d each add our new ornament to our tree after Christmas Eve dinner. This year my sister didn’t come home and told me over Facebook that she has embraced minimalism and doesn’t want new ones anymore.
I’m about as in love with Christmas time as Jessica is. Always wanted someone in life who loved doing all the cheesy Christmas stuff like picking a tree, I do have a collection of baubles I add to every year, and love Christmas movies. But 3 days before Christmas 2020 I lost someone very close to me. I don’t think it will ever feel the same again. But watching Jessica and Claudia enjoying it all together, it did bring a smile seeing others still feeling the magic and enjoying it all. Which also explains why I’m only just now watching your Christmas video series in July instead of back in December.
Game Night is HYSTERICAL!! The plot & dialogue is quite good, I think will love it. I must watch & read Little Women each year, however; I can’t even think about Christmas without watching "Meet Me In St. Louis" & "In The Good Old Summertime" (but is mostly set in winter)! Basically, any Judy Garland Christmas moments and any other Christmas Musical are my must watch while decorating!! Your tree is beautiful, we have a small one that we put all of our special ornaments on so they stand out! Then 2 large ones trees, one traditional gold/red/green & a second with white/jewel tones/mercury glass ornaments, snowflakes, white birds & then peacock ornaments that we have collected every year! Sorry about your gingerbread...you could have said your inspiration was artwork by Jackson Pollack🤣! Lot’s of 🤗, 💜, 🙏🏻 for good health 😷& 😘 🦚
Plants for acidic shady soil: Lungwort, Bleeding Heart, Coral Bells, Hardy Ferns, Ajuga, Hosta. Lots more things will work as well. And acid soil is preferred over alkaline. Any pine needles that fall are only acidic as long as they are green. Once they are brown they become pH neutral. You can modify that with lots of organic matter - mulch that will decay and can be turned into the soil. So any good compost or mulch of leaves, grass clippings, etc will be great for your beds.
I used to have a colour theme (red and silver) so my "base" baubles are that, but I've now collected so many other fun baubles linked to memories and pop culture I love that the colour scheme has gone a bit out of the window lol. I think that garden centres were eventually allowed to open as it would literally have put all the growers out of business completely otherwise. The stock can't wait and it's hard to switch to delivery. Plus they're generally quite open and outdoor. I've seen some tree farms switched to delivery or click and collect only this year, particularly for the first bit during actual lockdown.
"Carol" has been my Christmas tradition since it came out in 2015 (it's late at night and I'm too tired to think of a good pun for that 'came out' bit).
Plants that grow under pine trees that are pretty are lily of the valley, hosta, and geraniums. I would absolutely make a hard edge or a planter bed for them though, lillie's and hostas will take over every available inch of soil.
Finally catch a video early, this is wonderful, and I am loving 2020 vlogmas, keeps me very happy and excited for xmas. I have never had a real tree, just a fake one, since I have no clue how to look after a real one.
No hatchet when getting your own tree, use a bow saw. much easier. tinsel is what your Mom loved and you will look fondly on iy when she is gone...Merry Christmas!
Seeing you have fun with your friends or family always brings so much joy to me, Jessica! Vlogmas is already brightenins my december a lot, thank you for that
I guess next year you can get an even bigger tree because they’ll all have been growing for an extra year! Also you should put a little keepsake or memory from your first Xmas inside that bauble.
About the golden not-tinsel: we have some of it too, my mum calls it angel's hair and as a child I was never allowed to decorate with it because its edges were so sharp my sister once cut herself trying to order all of the intertwined hair!
Jessica, I love the fairy lights that reflect on the decorations. I also love your colour scheme. I remember my mother draping Icicles, that we keep having to pick up. She even carefully took them off and put them in a box to use the next year .We also had a tradition that the tree was left up until my birthday, the first of January. I hope you enjoyed your movie. Happy Vlogmas 2020 🎄🎄🎄❄❄❄⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
To be fair I live in America and in the winter it looks pretty much like that on cloudy days, even at like noon. But I live in St. Louis where we have notoriously weird weather, so.
May I recommend a second tiny tree in another room? For any non-colour scheme approved baubles and fun quirky baubles. If I've learned anything from Christmas movies, every room can have a Christmas tree if you want it.
In Germany, the golden thing is called "Lametta". I am not really into it, but I like the sound of the word. Anyway, I am just really stressed right now. My sister had contact with someone who tested positive, and I am going to inject a monthly medication tomorrow which makes me feel pretty bad and I have a clinic appointment for the issues, but I might be unable to go because of the issues with my sister and have to deal with the side effects all alone. This video is so positive and friendly, I really needed some good stuff, so thank you for that.
Put hydrangeas in the acidic soil!!! It would be perfect, the color changes depending on the ph of the soil. Though do water it often. Lovely tree there!!
We'll be watching the 'Krampus' movie since tonight is Krampusnacht. Cozy fire going with pinecones that turn the fire blue and green, hot cider, cuddled under blankets. Can't wait!
Gorgeous video as always, I'm the same as Jessica in that I'm the one who loves decorating the tree. My favourite tradition is getting a new ornament each year so really liked how you talked through the memories of each ornament, though honestly I can't remember all of mine.
I wish i could helo with garden. But i'm fairly certain that the UK has very different plants available then what we have in the US. Since even in the US, we have plants that can only survive in certain elevations, some that are coastal only since they need the salt air, and even ones for temperate biomes. Ontop of that, what might be available here could easily be invasive there.
some non-toxic, dog friendly plants that like low-light/acid soil: pachysandra (perfect for shade gardens! Pachysandra Variegata or Terminalis especially grow quickly) Turf lilies (Liriope muscari) and camellias also suit those conditions & are safe for walter & tilly
I'm a blue and silver person. I love how cheery and bright this video is. I'm glad you are able to get joy this holiday season. Here in the U.S. a lot of stuff is still open because of the holidays. Not sure how to feel. I am also a family player in the Sims. I love how fun it is. I love that dress! I found it online and I want it so bad. I love unique ornaments. Yeah I'm not sure if I would like The Happiest Season. Claudia's sense of horror movies is wildly funny. I'm more scared of real horror cause it could happen to me. Haha
You might be able to grow blueberries under your trees in the garden (I live in a part of NJ covered in conifers and in the woods/pine barrens wild blueberries bushes are a huge ground cover plant)
I truly believe that you should indulge in large Christmas trees. My partner and I got a 15ft tree for our house this year as we live in a converted barn in Somerset so have super high ceilings.
so much Fun! hope you're not lagged out from all the fun & excitement 😍🌲🎄 "Flicks" is pre depression era American slang for movies a nod to the way old films would flicker usually also meant lower quality mass market fare. Net of course short for Internet & Networks. Netflix is spelled with an " x" instead of "cks" because some goldenboy marketing when they named it thought the X would be edgy & cool
That is such a beautiful Christmas tree! I love ornaments with stories ❤️🎄 Btw, in Finland we have polar night right know. So we don’t get any sun at all 😭 you guys are lucky!
This video literally made me smile from start to finish ☺ 🥰 You guys have the most wonderful way of spreading joy, especially at this time of year! I have OCD too (Obsessive Christmas Disorder!) and have just finished decorating my tree as well, always real!! 🌲The video also made me nostalgic for Christmas in the UK, I lived in Surrey and LOVED it getting dark at 4pm, the High Street would just come alive with lights, smells and sounds, in Australia it stays light til 8pm! Look forward to more Vlogmas!! 🎅 🤶 🎁 🦌 PS I sent a parcel to your PO Box and just got a notification of "attempted delivery" so I'm a bit nervous that you might not get it! 📮 Fingers crossed!! 🤞
May I just say that as crazy as the world is right now, listening to Jessica and Claudia going off on random tangents is one of the most comforting things around.
I can't decide what's funnier. Jessica's completely macabre Princess Diana or Claudia learning in real time why Netflix is called Netflix.
She's close with Netflix, but it's less based on "flicking through your options" and more on how movies are sometimes called "flicks".
But like didn't Netflix exist before the internet?
@Sankalp B No, it did not exist before the internet. It was started in 1997. The main difference at the beginning was that you ordered movies you wanted to rent online, they would mail them to you, and then you would return it whenever you wanted so you could get another rental. It was a movie delivery service where you weren’t penalized for keeping the movie for a while. :)
I'm pretty certain Netflix started as DVD rental by post
The Internet was actually born in 1969. The World Wide Web was born in 1995.
Watching the whole playpen thing after the pregnancy announcement is both adorable and extremely entertaining to watch them try to work around it lol.
YES! The two of them are just so adorable and I love how they had to make sure not to show off her bump with how she's sitting lol
For "future" children.... xD
For future children… WAIT WE HAVE A NEPHEW

That's beautiful! ❤️
Germany. That is why they started using silver/gold icicle tinsel.
Cute story :-).
There's a kids book called Cobweb Christmas that is very sweet and features spiderwebs on a tree.
A long, long, time ago, in Germany, a mother was cleaning for Christmas. Spiders fled up into the attic to escape the broom. On quiet Christmas Eve, the spiders slowly came down for a peek. "Oh! What a beautiful Christmas tree!" They exclaimed.

This is the story of tinsel and also why every tree should have a spider in its branches. 🕷🕷🕷
England's two coolest lesbians. Mix that with a Christmas video, and this is the perfect comfort video.
It makes me warm inside, lesbians and Christmas in England is just ✨magical✨ it really makes me smile and long for a girlfriend! ❤️❤️❤️
Dare we say "coolest couple in the world"(spoken like Jeremy Clarkson) I imagine a Christmas party at their house would be mad fun!
The coolest couple. They don't need any modifer.
Excuse me but Cathy Hay is a pretty cool lesbian 🤔☝️she deserves the award too.
But ok for the coolest couple 😁
Hydrangeas can do really well in acidic soil. They are so fun bc the ph can effect the color. (Pink vs blue) and now I have done exactly what as expected of me 🤣
Rhododendrons and roses like acidic soil, (but I suspect rhododendrons aren't the right choice.) I've grown some lavender on aggressively acidic clay, (but that might have been an exception rather than a rule.)
A little alum in the water do the magic ;-).
I was just thinking Azalea! hehehehe
I know nothing about flowers, I just thought this was great & wish they see this!
Hydrangeas (the Hydr part of hydrangeas is indicative of their love of water) need a lot of water and will not grow in darkness, camellia, azalea and rhododendron are ericaceous (ie enjoy a soil ph of lower thrn 6.5) , but need water and light too. Jessica: as a bad memory
Also Jessica: WE BOUGHT THIS BAUBLE SIX YEARS AND 27 MINUTES AGO AFTER YOUR WORK WHEN WE WENT TOGETHER HOW CAN YOU NOT REMEMBER
Claudia: 👁👄👁
"a small one"
"..... we'll see"
Yeah I knew as soon as she said that they were not getting a small tree
We want an on-screen fiiiight - just joking :)
The gingerbread cutout modeling the Rudi Giuliani look
OMG this comment is golden
I SCREAMED
LMAO
"It's not nighittime, it's just England!" I hear you, I haven't seen the sun in a week here either (Canada)
Saame! (from Sweden)
At first I freaked out when Jessica was filming while driving and then I realized I'm just aggressively american
To be fair, I'm from western Europe and it troubled me for a moment as well
They drive properly outside of the UK lol
It took me a minute to realize it was Claudia driving since it's a European car. :)
@@HOHNancy British car. the rest of Europe (and the world apart from the Commonwealth) drives on the right like normal people
She also cant drive lol
Mosses and ferns are super prevalent in redwood forests; they would likely work with other conifers as well. Also mushrooms if y'all were feeling a mushroom garden type situation. Good luck in your planting endeavors!
I really love listening to you two just talk about random things, it feels like I'm just chatting with my friends
"Flick" is a US nickname for film. Probably leftover from the early days of film when they literally flickered.
I can understand taking a long time to pick a tree. When I was 3 we went to a tree farm and I had to find a huggable tree!
Oh that is lovely
The little spin in and out kiss thing was SO HECKING CUTE! Especially with the swishy skirt:)
I’ve come to the conclusion I wanna be your child. Your home is just filled with love! Please adopt me 👋🏼😍
I think that there is a fairly long cue of both adults and children that feel the same way about this amazing family.
I will be the 🧓🏼aging auntie who loves to cook. 🎄

Dry, acidic, shade- Silver Dead Nettle, Lamium galeobdolen. Ok if the lawn surrounds it, invasive. Epimedium is less aggressive.
I don't even celebrate Christmas yet your vlogs bring me so much joy :)
Same here! They're so wholesome.
Same and you know its a dam good tree when the page approves
I'm so excited to be able to use my glass baubles on our tree this year, because our son is finally old enough (he will be 6 on new year's eve) to not mess with the tree!
Hope he has a great birthday!! 💕
@@HekatieSquires thank you 😊
Dark and cold =/= nighttime. It is currently 11am for me and so dark that I can see the lights from others' houses

out of topic but the cat in your pfp is so precious!
At always bought tinsel and my mom would throw bunches onto the tree in clumps, and I would sneak back and hang them "properly" like icicles.
I really admire Jessica’s dedication to colour scheme, I could never commit to just two colours.
Aww sooo pretty! I love this mini series because it makes me feel really Christmassy!
Watching/learning about other people's holiday traditions makes me so ridiculously happy! Thank you for sharing the Christmas cheer! :)
I agree that red, green and gold is like the holy trinity of Xmas colour schemes, but I've really learned to appreciate blues whites and silvers which fits really nicely with my love for the snow and all things winter. Both schemes give me joy in different ways.

Hydrangeas, and hostas grow wonderfully under pine trees, and the needles will actually help Hydrangeas develop a beautiful blue color!

Without my realizing it, your vlogmas videos have become part of what gets me feeling Christmassy over the past couple years.
The Family Stone is our favorite holiday movie! We have watched it SO many times. Still makes me tear up at the end.
Did you know that Netflix started as a dvd mail renting website
I still remember getting the red paper envelopes with a dvd in the mail!! I thought I was the only one!!!
Definitely remember those!
😑
Visor tip! You can buy single use glasses wet wipes that stop them fogging up entirely! You could use on your visor
Finally catch a video early, this is wonderful, and I am loving 2020 vlogmas, keeps me very happy and excited for xmas. I have never had a real tree, just a fake one, since I have no clue how to look after a real one.

Seeing you have fun with your friends or family always brings so much joy to me, Jessica! Vlogmas is already brightenins my december a lot, thank you for that
salal and ferns do quite well under the pine trees in the forests here in the Pacific Northwest!
I've had a rough day, so I'm watching old vlogmas videos to get some of the good feels. Self care is important 🤣💗
I guess next year you can get an even bigger tree because they’ll all have been growing for an extra year! Also you should put a little keepsake or memory from your first Xmas inside that bauble.

My favourite vlogmas each year!
I'm so happy to see Jessie & Claud giving 😘
to each other.
It's the most wonderful time of the year....Shoukd see what's it like buying a tree in South Florida surrounded by Palm Trees at 80 degrees
I feel ya I live in orlando
The perfect thing to put under a conifer tree is outdoor art
Jessica, I love the fairy lights that reflect on the decorations. I also love your colour scheme. I remember my mother draping Icicles, that we keep having to pick up. May I recommend a second tiny tree in another room? For any non-colour scheme approved baubles and fun quirky baubles. If I've learned anything from Christmas movies, every room can have a Christmas tree if you want it.
Red and gold looks perfect, I personally have almost all my decorations different from each other, so the tree has all the colours, like a rainbow:)!
Just started decorating the house and your notification came on . Now am really getting in the Xmas spirit
In my home since my family is a Jewish Christian mix we use a traditional tree with silver and blue to represent bbn both.
Decorating makes me just as happy as Jessica, lol. Maybe even more. Also I think the gold thing you're talking about is called fringe. Gold fringe.
Alles Gute, du schaffst das!
You can plant Rhododendron, Azaleas, Lingonberrys and Artic raspberry.
Jessica's blue dress and hairstyle when she's decorating the three makes her look so much like Ariel in the Kiss the Girl scene
Oh especially with the cute kiss spin!!
"nighttime" .. well, same here in Germany. At 9 am it felt like 6 .. so dark ..argh.
Put hydrangeas in the acidic soil!!! It would be perfect, the color changes depending on the ph of the soil. Though do water it often.
Lovely tree there!!
Jessica’s facial expressions in this video are everything!
We'll be watching the 'Krampus' movie since tonight is Krampusnacht. Cozy fire going with pinecones that turn the fire blue and green, hot cider, cuddled under blankets. Can't wait!
this vlogmas is just "jessica really cares about colour schemes" LOL
The gold cobwebs for the tree are called angel hair! Or at least that’s what we call it in our house and it’s the best bit ❤️
You two are just too adorable!!! Hope you enjoyed your first Christmas movie!
The family stone is great! My parents watch it every year and I finally watched it last year.
Gorgeous video as always, I'm the same as Jessica in that I'm the one who loves decorating the tree. My favourite tradition is getting a new ornament each year so really liked how you talked through the memories of each ornament, though honestly I can't remember all of mine.
I've had an exhausting day sorting out my passed on Grandmother's house. This is exactly what I needed to unwind and perk me up.
Watch them especially during this season gives me a warm feeling. Theyre just so lovely. ❤❤❤❤
Gold shiny cobwebs - lametta

1:35 im so happy you are still in contact with jamie and his fiancée 🥺
sending lots of love❤️❤️❤️❤️
This year is the last year of use on our fakey tree and I've been promised a real tree next year!
Can’t wait to see this video! Love you both! You guys being so much Christmas cheer ❤️✨ thank you!
Blueberries like acidic soil! I dunno about the light though. They turn lovely colors in fall
some non-toxic, dog friendly plants that like low-light/acid soil: pachysandra (perfect for shade gardens! Pachysandra Variegata or Terminalis especially grow quickly)
Turf lilies (Liriope muscari) and camellias also suit those conditions & are safe for walter & tilly
We have the same dark gloomy pre-4pm situation in Seattle, feel your pain!
You and me both Jessica I love Christmas too bring me joy!
Haha
Game night is a fun film, does include a fair amount violence and blood though so depends on how you're feeling!
You might be able to grow blueberries under your trees in the garden (I live in a part of NJ covered in conifers and in the woods/pine barrens wild blueberries bushes are a huge ground cover plant)
Rhododendrons and azaleas!!!! But it can’t be total shade still.
I truly believe that you should indulge in large Christmas trees.
My partner and I got a 15ft tree for our house this year as we live in a converted barn in Somerset so have super high ceilings.
It's not even 4pm!!! Being in the UK myself, I can totally relate 😁😁
I absolutely love ornament tours
I just realised Claudia you cut your hair, it looks fantastic! It's a great length on you! ❤️❤️😍
Claudia explaining Netflix is the funniest thing in the world
''gold shiney cobwebs'': at my home we always call them angel hairs!!
so much Fun! hope you're not lagged out from all the fun & excitement 😍🌲🎄
"Flicks" is pre depression era American slang for movies a nod to the way old films would flicker usually also meant lower quality mass market fare. Net of course short for Internet & Networks.
Netflix is spelled with an " x" instead of "cks" because some goldenboy marketing when they named it thought the X would be edgy & cool
I’d recommend Klaus! It’s a lovely Christmas film.
the happiest season actually really good movie, its kinda sad but very funny and cute :)
