I love when kids have alternative interests besides tractors and trucks. My son is obsessed with bagpipes. Yup. Bagpipes. And all things Scotland really but primarily bagpipes. He is 7 and has never been to Scotland.

My nephew went through a phase of being obsessed with wet floor signs! It makes complete sense, he was 3 so they were brightly coloured, at his eye level and he was just starting to read and the words are printed very clearly on them

I have autism and ADHD. One common trait of these is called a special interest, or hyperfixation. This sounds like your son might have a special interest. My main special interests are pillows, and anything relating to jungles, step pyramids, and Mesoamerica, particularly the Aztecs. I became really obsessed with all of these things when I was around 5. I remember being around that age and watching my older sibling play Zuma, and just being enamored with the step pyramid and jungle theming of the game. And I loved this restaurant chain called Azteca Mexican Restaurant because I thought "it's called Azteca! It must be related to those people that built those cool pyramids in the jungle!" But of course in reality, the Aztecs did not found that restaurant, and they didn't live in the jungle.

i went on a google deep dive because i couldn't remember what it was called but i had an AMAZING book when i was little called 'i want to be a ballerina' by rosie mccormick! it's a pop up book with BEAUTIFUL illustrations, i think you can only get it second hand now but it's a really lovely book if you can find it!

My five year old son was the only boy in his ballet class. He had the opportunity to perform in a local show where he was teamed up with another boy, and they really enjoyed dancing together! I asked his teacher, “how many children do you need to run a boys’ class?” because I thought he’d love it. The teacher told me she’d need ten sign-ups, and do you know, I did it! I found ten little lads who like leaping around. Quite a big feat in south east London! So, the new class has been running weekly since the summer. What did my son say? “I miss the girls’ class!” Oops 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh, i love this so much. My oldest has danced since she was 7, 25 now. My boys both danced and everyone was in the Nutcracker for years, even my husband. My 14 yr old son still dances but not as much. They both still help with our Ballet company's Nutcracker every year and live seenew you ger boys dancing. They had several male Ballet role models. If you can, our Nutcracker was on the national news NBC Nightly News. Our area was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Rupert's room is wonderful! Happy Christmas

So fun to watch, the casualness especially. Makes it much easier to watch and follow, and gives it a cosy vibe.
And watching this reminded me of a show i used to watch called dance academy, all about ballet and they were inclusive as well👌
And true, a lot of children's literature, though they have amazing art style, are actually really abstract drawings, and contain stories that don't make sense, don't have a beginning and an end, or use sentence that are too long with or complex(since anyone can write a book, they're not all equal when it comes to educational value). In my classes we also were taught to use more realistic drawings when teaching kids new vocab. And with animals, use of actual photographs was advised instead of drawings
Seeing the cupboard reminded me of my own cupboard. 85% rarely used, 15% of the same things, but it does help having a section of ready to wear things, makes it much less overwhelming👌🤓

this is nit-picky for sure but i would always recommend washing bedding before you put it on because you never know what chemicals or dyes the factory uses that may not have fully washed off. also as someone with allergies to detergent, its just the best way to know it doesnt have anything that could irritate yours or your cutie’s skins! beautiful makeover though! so glad you’re showing him how much hes loved ☺️❤️

      @piperevelyn2446 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +12

Oh yeah, that was my only issue with this video, too. Also even if the chemicals used were not bad, all the dust from the factory line has probably gathered in the fabric. But the design itself was cute and will surely bring joy.

At four years old, (around the late sixties early seventies) I declared that I wanted to be a professional Dancer, and Like yourselves my parents were amazingly supportive and encouraging (they didn't care about gender specific activities) and I went on to have an amazing life and career spanning over forty years as a professional dancer, including 12 west end musicals and a couple of touring ballet companies. Rupert is a very lucky young man, with Parents like you, a little hard work and passion he'll achieve great things, what ever he chooses in life. kudos ladies, you're doing a wonderful job 🎅🏿💛💛

limiting choices to just two items per draw is ideal for young toddlers, but at 3 going on 4, a choice between 3 or 4 items is probably fine for him. Having more of the clothes stored in the draws accessible to Rupert will be much easier for you to maintain as parents, I think it makes sense to go with that.

I think the whole 'you can only understand something if its an actual real human doing actual real human things' is rather an oversimplification and doesn't give kids enough credit. I read a lot of books with animal protagonists when I was little, and fantasy as I started reading by myself, and I did not struggle to understand the difference between fiction and reality. I loved Peter Rabbit for a while, but I did not think that the cartoonish character was the same thing as the rabbits I saw out in the fields. Imagining that a character like Peter Rabbit could exist helped me to extend empathy to things that I couldn't fully understand. Surely, learning how to sympathise with, accept, and be kind to people even if you can't immediately put yourself in their shoes is a desirable thing? Similarly, I think books which showed different animals with different ways of interacting with the world getting along and mucking together was an opportunity for a grounding in multiculturalism and the social model of disability. It probably would have been a better grounding if there were more books written with non-human protagonists from the past 20 years or so, but there has been such a trend away from allowing them that it's hard to get books which are more actively conscious of these sorts of themes, or have these themes without other problematic aspects.

This is so adorable. Rupert looks so pleased 😊. I was wondering as a chronically ill/disabled girly myself who’d like children some day too, as Rupert is growing, is he noticing things about your health, does he get worried. How do you and Claudia deal with that on the regular.

Hey, I can talk a bit about having a disabled/chronically ill Mom. (She had MS) When I was young, I was not scared or worried that she was ill or couldn’t walk. Her being in bed or having bad days was just how she was. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. Weirdly, when my Dad was in the hospital for some sort of intestinal thing, that made me super upset. He was the healthy one, he wasn’t supposed to be sick, my Mom was. I will say my parents were very open about my Mom’s illness so it was never anything that I wondered about. ❤

This is gorgeous. I am wondering - why not get Rupert involved in making some of these choices too? That is VERY Montessori. Does he like this or this? And he can help put things away tc. It doesn't matter if it is perfect, he will learn SO much from the process.

@@doravalencia2214 they’ve shared his full name and DoB on purpose before. That’s not something they’re trying to keep private.

Are you at all concerned about those books diminishing his imagination? Don’t get me wrong, I do like that. They have books that feature real people doing things, but books that are specifically designed for kids develop their imagination. I love that you don’t discourage him from His love for ballet. Some parents would flat out refuse because they think ballet is just for girls. There are lots of sports and activities that should be gender inclusive. I tend to wonder why they have women’s leagues of certain sports here in America, but not others, such as American football.
