Man, what a video! I agree with practically everything on it. Just few (or maybe a lot of) thoughts: 1-I have a personal theory that Flame Princess appeared in few episodes because she is hard to draw, with all that fire moving at the same time (according to one of the artists from Adventure Time, which I doesn't remember the name, her initial design was based on a candle), and the same can be applied to the majority of the Fire Kingdom citizens. 2-Seriously, Jake, why do you want to find a princess to date Finn? It wouldn't be better to find a girl without any royal titles, knowing how carefree and immature he is by the time? Just remember how it works well with Huntress Wizard (yeah, her relationship with him was probably the best, because he got mature, but this is a story for another time). 3-I also never understood the scene with Jake being kiiled by "Finn", who was just an extension of himself. 4-My favorite episode about FP was Vault of Bones. It was just nice to see FP and Finn having an adventure together, and her design with short hair is perfect (also probably easier to draw). I also like how she emanates light inside a dark dungeon, creating an interesting effect during the entire episode. 5-My second favorite design of Flame Princess was her "arabic outfit" from the Ignition Point episode. It would be awesome if the Fire Kingdom had a more "middle eastern" motiff in their clothing and architecture, just to make a contrast with the medieval european style from the other kingdoms. 6A-I guess it would be a better storyline if Flame Princess and her father (who is another character with an awesome design) started as antagonists, trying to literally taking over the Land of Ooo by Fire, with her changing sides by Finn's influence. Unfortunately, the comparisons between Fire Lord Ozai and his daughter Azula from Avatar - The Last Airbender would be inevitable. 6B-About the previous point, let's make an amendment: They could have used the Ragnarok from the Norse mythology as main source for this plotline: One of the destroyers of the world during the endtime is Surtr, king of the Fire Giants. Maybe in this plot, the Flame King is described as someone obsessed with the end's world theory, and the rising of the Fire People as the sole survivors, after all land burn to the ground. The resurrection of the Lich could be interpreted by him as the "Ignition Point" (Ha!) for the end of the world, and the start of his conquest campaign of Ooo. 7-The entire episode of The Cooler and the fear of Princess Bubblegum would only make sense if we got a flashback sequence showing the Candy Kingdom (or maybe other kingdom) being invaded by the Fire Kingdom army, with the Giants appearing alongside them. 8-Flame Princess Brother as a character is more pointless than a circle. However, it would be nice to see an episode of him dealing with Finn's shenanigans, thinking "what kind of idiot my sister is dating?!" 9-Making her last episode being about rap is probably the stupidest thing I can imagine. Seriously, AT crew?! Of all things possible, an episode about rap? On the final season?!
I’m actually fine with the rap cause i thought she was doing one of Finn early hobbies you know when he was making beatbox and political rap and the show just treated it like she had this hobby kinda wish it showed Finn teaching her and be inspired by it even more of her cloth style like the white shirt and shorts like Finn honestly wish we got more episode of the 2 hanging out Also for 2 that was kinda just Jake regretting his decision and fp was the only person for Finn cause she kicked ass and looked humanoid she was something Finn wanted not some girly princess he has to save
i grew up with adventure time, and fp was my favorite character. i don't know what it was, but there was something about her that always appealed to me. i always hated all her wasted potential, she was the MAIN character's love interest, yet i can count with my hands the eps in which she appears as such. she is extremely powerful and plausibly has an interesting backstory. and i felt like after she served to finn's character arc, they just didn't know what to do with her. this always hurt me cause i always held her dear to my heart, but she was never relevant enough for me to talk about it, i feel. thank you for this video (i haven't finished it yet so idk if i'm just repeating what you'll say, but thank you regardless)
Finn learns how to do his own flame shield from flambo or flambo teaches Flame princess, you’d think that would be one of the first things people are thought in the Flame kingdom
Ngl I thought this was going to be about how her anger isn't treated as valid as a person who literally was imprisoned and treated as evil+violent and getting ZERO apologies from her main abusers. But came out if this that PB is legit awful and the AT universe despite having a cast of multiple monsters, somehow has fire racism.
Really enjoyed your analysis! I agree with most of what you said about FP’s missed potential but honestly I would go even further and say her character isn’t the best in “Hot To The Touch”. I just really dislike the trope of women being portrayed as naive and almost child-like, how FP king of was in that episode. For me, her character peaked in “Vault of Bones” and the episodes where she grappled with ruling the fire kingdom, I just wish the writers would’ve given her more focus as her own person instead of always using her to advance the stories of others.
Never saw the episode where FP and Finn broke up, only came across it in another review... and I'm glad I didn't. I can easily see why people hate it so.
Yeah I mean splitting up a main romantic relationship is bound to be hated but they really fumbled the ball with the way they did it. I really don't know why so many shows struggle to just end a relationship maturely and instead just has one of them out of nowhere being awful to justify it.
If you are interested, there is a good comic called "Playing with Fire" and it dives into Flame Princess' internal conflict of being on the path of evil and good, her impatience and anger issues. And there's also some really cute interactions between her and Finn in that one.
Bubblegum was basically an imperialist but instead of outright conquering other kingdoms she makes sure they are subservient and weak through backhanded and sinister tactics while maintaining the facade that she is good and fair to the general public and FP was one of the very few who actually tried to resist her influence
I'm playing a one shot dnd campaign themed on adventure time in a couple days, and I decided I'd play a flame elemental for this. I just felt like I had to brush up on lore since I haven't watched this show in like 8 years
Same it’s way better whatever Finn x hw is I thought their relationship is temporary they use eachother not cause they feel any romance but to feel less lonely but have a good time not actually be the true couple like what the heck I hate how fionnna and cake made her his au true love bs that doesn’t make sense it’s Jake not her she was temporarily his girlfriend cause she just wanted to feel less alone like Finn did and he would understand that and let go of her and he’s single enough to be happy to not feel sad he lost fp and why fern date fp I thought she would move on not date a grass clone of him what is wrong with these people
FP got done really dirty by the show. When she was dating Finn there wasn't enough episodes of them dating, and every episode was some BIG!! DRAMTIC!!!!!! THING!!!1!!! that was the end of the world so we didn't get enough of a feel for their relationship, then after they broke up FP's screentime decreased by 80%. Writers got bored of her. The way her personality became defined by shitty rapping almost seems like them making fun of her. I never did noticed that PB never actually apologizes for all the awful stuff she did in The Cooler, wow. It wouldn't have meant all too much anyway but she really does just get butthurt about being told she's a bad person. I don't think that episode is as bad as you, but it really does make FP look like an idiot and a pushover. PB in no way earned being told something as seemingly personal as what her name is, something we never even saw her tell Finn when he was her boyfriend. Also when you look at FP from a macro level it feels like every other level they invent something for her that is never mentioned again. Incendium- Her dad wants to giver her away to an evil suitor. Why? He put her in that lantern so she wouldn't usurp him, why does he want her to get hitched with an evil guy. What? Hot to the Touch- Like you said, her fire being put out hurts her. That may have been referenced once or twice more but mostly was forgotten. Burning Low- Intense emotion causes her to go to the planet's core and explode the Earth? What? Why? Okay. Wouldn't you say she experiences intense emotion at other points in the show, like when she gets really pissed off? But I guess this problem is never an issue again. Earth and Water- She declares there's going to be no more lies in her kingdom, total honestly mandated by law. Sounds like that wouldn't really work out too well but don't worry because the show never mentions it again. Good point about how FP has perhaps the best claim of anyone to want to fight PB in the finale, but even with that she wouldn't wanna be part of an unnecessary violent war. I'm sure the show was saying some bullshit reason about how FP is so mature and benevolent now that she holds no ill will and is helping cuz it's the right thing to do or whatever. That plotline sucked too so whatever. I wrote too much here. FP could've been good but never got a chance to shine and was half baked just like Cinnamon Bun. Her hype introduction was sort of entirely wasted because her character was never able to deliver on that promise, she just got together with Finn to break up with him then rap for 6 episodes until the show mercifully stops making her show up again.
Man of all the post ending fixes they've been trying to do, they end up choosing to make an entire show to turn Simon from the victim of the ice crown into a groomer who deserved to go crazy because of his refusal to stop Betty from being obsessed with him?! Like what? They should've spent that time fixing the flame princess character arc or at least address princess bubblegums immoral actions...
I think she's probably the biggest waste of potential in the shows entire history on multiple counts but also... The series literally *couldn't* have gotten as dark as it now is if Flame Princess had stuck around and stayed with Finn. Like... *literally* none of the majorly dark/serious moments could've happened if Flame Princess was still there adventuring with Finn the whole time and having his back. (Unless they wrote them both to just suddenly be 10x dumber than Cinnamon Bun which obviously wouldn't work.) She can absorb and control any and all fire seemingly without limit. Meaning she could absorb the flame energies of characters like The Lich, all the way up to the Cosmic Comet but even ignoring how ridiculously OP that is, She's basically 100% immortal given her Elemental status. She may or may not have the ability to turn other people into fire creatures since it's implied the powers all the major princesses got in the Elementals Special might return slowly to them someday (but that was a throway line somewhere so you could easily discard it.) She can fly, burn hot enough to literally melt into the earth's core and destroy the planet even just on her own. Shapeshift, turn into a giantess. Shoot Fireballs, plasma beams and everything else heat-related inbetween. And if Finn either had flame-shield on all the time, or used a spell in the Enchirideon to give himself Fire Immunity, or willingly let himself or even just a part of himself turn into a Fire Creature so he could be closer to her at all times. Literally she could've just flown him everywhere Ala Supergirl and Jimmy Olsen. All of which in turn would've *drastically* changed the series. Finn most likely would never have lost the Demon Blood Sword, which means he never would've gotten the grass sword, which means he would've never lost his arm, which opens up a whole TON of differences in the story. If none of the crazy grimm-dark stuff like that happens in the series when it does? Literally Adventure Time probably would've just stayed as a Fantasy Comedy Show if that had happened. Or instead of Golb and The Lich, the series could've shifted to being *entirely* about Flame Princess vs Bubblegum. Which personally, I preferred it when Adventure Time *didn't* confirm that all the characters we know and love except BMO are dead/missing/lost, and has 3 seperate finales that all have bittersweet existential as fuck endings. So yeah, Flame Princess is a BIIIIIIG missed opportunity, but on the other hand I can see why the writers basically removed her from the show as quickly as possible.
Well if i can write 2 character ai bots for the sole purpose of my frustration with Finn and fp (their called wild fire and flame prince Finn the story in their settings is what i wrote about them also wrote 2 or 3 of flame princess but their more of her being a independent badass warrior or a love struck puppy to symbolize the traits she used to have not that rap garbage stuff though I do headcannon that Finn taught her most of ooo culture and hobbies I mean she’s wearing a t shirt and red shorts so more or less made Finn and fp sibling dynamic a family that could have been a better dynamic if they didn’t want to be a couple I mean their red and blue their birthdays according to the wiki are in March Finn is one week older then fp if anything it felt weird to me Finn dated hw and fine with being used in her worse wished hw and Finn was just temporary as it’s their deal not the true love as i really idd enjoy obsidian Finn being like Billy a pacifist who accepted his brother is gone and he’s gonna wait for him and be happy all his life instead of the finn we got In fionna and cake) made me really question it as im sure this will help cause honestly it really messed up how much of a coincidence the writers made cosmic owl and Jake convince Finn to get him be dumped and friendzoned by fp in a week and the fact there was a whole destiny thing where fp was supposed to be flame queen so does that mean Finn love life was sabotaged by fate so the other characters can have a better life like Jake has to find fp to get Finn a girlfriend and then fp rules the fire kingdom you know the place that put her in a giant lamp and let her die in a lamp or be married off to a evil prince like possibly don jon and the teasing of cb and pb creeps me out more and then the relief her soulmate was actually fern which Finn killed him but it’s like really messed up how fate or the writers screwed Finn that fp would date the grass clone of Finn so nobody get mad about fp being single it’s even worse that fp didn’t even know what Finn had to experience from cosmic owl all she knows is Finn made fun of her for a prank to make her fight ice king I really wish fp knew everything that Finn had to experience when he hurt her don’t get me wrong i love these but it’s like their whole relationship changed to different things but either way I’m glad their not like super enemies or some weird thing with fp dating older people or atleast the mainline fp dating fern cause that’s just creepy or you got a obsession of not getting over your ex but act like your over him but fine with dating the closest thing to your ex which is i guess isn’t fair in some terms since every human or fern can show their unique way of love but I swear to god if fionna and cake shows the mainline fp date a human that looks even remotely close to Finn it’s just like the writers/fate just taunt Finn for a universe that chooses its heroes they are really a bunch of absolute jerks you have to make every Finn and fp break up for some depression or character growth and all of fp versions just move on it’s just weird man but unique enough to make me write stuff so in a way i thank cn but i hate what you did and why does Finn like violence of fp but also fear it too like vault of bones he showed fear of her power what happened with that why would he suddenly likes her fighting people but not worry about it in frost and fire On a personal note why would fp even go back to the fire kingdom like she got abused there why would anyone want to like go there over a letter that says her destiny or something like that makes her look kinda pathetic honestly you break up with your boyfriend but oh wait maybe going back home to not hurt anyone and be in power and blame everything on your father instead of the kingdom that fears you and fine with getting you trapped in a giant lamp for 14 years me personally the cabin is fine or something else man or better yet why didn’t they just make fp choose to go back to the fire kingdom then some stupid destiny only cb knew weird right and then make Finn have to choose to help fp or pb and ultimately got their relationship strained due to choosing or Finn helps fp be a knight like him

If only fin used a flame protector spell they could actually be close and hug and what not
I know right I hate how they just don't address that.

100th like :D very good video 10/10
it’s been a lovely hr listen to you gush ab adventure time while cleaning/doing chores
