fun fact about King Candy, if you notice in the code scene, everyone and everything else has neatly sorted lines of code that fit neatly, but his is a jumbled mass of spaghetti code that's bursting at the seams.
One of the things I loved about Frollo is that while a lot of the other villains are motivated by obtaining power (Scar, Ursula, Jafar, etc) Frollo already has power. Instead we’re shown how he abuses it. While Scar is still a great villain, once he becomes king he just kinda lays around and complains. The things Frollo does are far more interesting and and honestly terrifying.
Hard agree with this. Frollo is a villain who technicly "already won". Hes in a position of power, he cleary loves his job, doesnt care if the 'guilty' die, and cleary does whatever he wants while within reason. Hes also cleary human, hes a messed up twisted human who fears the Judgement of God while believing hes Humble and Just (even thou we see plenty of evidence of otherwise, like when he gos to teach Quasi his lessons.) Him lusting after Esmeralda and wanting her, isnt the biggest or most grand goal, but when you consider that hes been a Judge for a long while... you start to wonder if Esmeralda was the only one he lusted after, and was simply the first that was denied to him for a long time.
@@peterwhite6415 I never considered that Frollo might have had women before Esmerelda. Who of course would’ve been forced to be with him. That wouldn’t be surprising and would add yet another layer of depravity to him.
@peterwhite6415 Wow...damn...I don't think i have ever considered the fact that Frollo has preyed upon other women during his career as a judge...but tha does sound like something he'd do. Then again, he freaks out in Hellfire while singjng about his lust for Esmeralda and i don't know if his old ass can handle those visions every time he gets horny
His biggest goal is to exterminate an actually real oppressed group of people, which is insane. Disney wouldn't dare pull that off today. Closest they got was the indigenous people in Frozen 2, which is heavily based on the sámi-people of Scandinavia - a group that were historically oppressed in Norway (I don't know about the other countries, I only learned about the Norwegian history)
The worst part about Callaghan is that he does actually apologize to Hiro, and admits Tadashi died because he let his actions become bitter and fueled by a deep hate, IN THE SPIN OFF SHOW. He could have been a good twist villain had he just said that in the movie! It was handled so well too, Hiro said Tadashi would have wanted him to forgive Callaghan, and he hoped someday he'd be able to.
Tadashi is the villain because he committed suicide. Literally every firefighting PSA warns people to not run into burning buildings. You aren't being a hero, you're being a complication.
@@ObjectsInMotion Pfft that doesn't make Tadashi a villain. He's a supporting character whose death is an inciting incident, caused by a good intentioned bad decision in the heat of panic. He died only a couple steps from the door, so it wouldn't complicate firefighting. Plus, if he hadn't died, Hiro wouldn't have become a hero later on and been there to stop That-Was-His-Mistake from doing his evil plan.
I feel like they could have fixed Callahan’s “That was his mistake!” line if he showed regret immediately after saying it. Like a heat in the passion moment. It would still result in Hiro getting upset and remove Baymax’s chip, and still make Callahan feel human.
I believe one dub translated that line a bit differently, and if translated back to English, would read like "I didn't ASK him to save me!", implying more of a regretful tone.
Even better, we can rewrite the line beforehand to add more precedent to that: Hiro: You let him die… Callaghan: Let him die? You think I planned for him to just run in there, without any care for his life?! Hiro: He tried to save you! Callaghan: Cue “that was his mistake* and regret
THAT WAS THE WRITER’S MISTAKE Honestly this approach is a win-win situation, Calahan would become much less of a 1 dimensional character, and we would still have the funny meme line
I can’t lie, Schaffrillas is one of the few channels that makes super long form videos that I almost always watch right on release and either fully through or in bits and pieces throughout my day. Even if I don’t always agree with some of his takes, I love hearing everything James has to say about the media he engages with
1:19:05 On that, fun fact: when Hades says “Guys, relax, it’s only half-time”, he says it at the 46-minute mark of the 92-minute film. Which means it actually was halftime 😅😂
I kinda have to assume that's just an amazing coincidence because that's only true on the newer prints of the movie starting with the 2014 DVD/Blu-ray and beyond. Replacing the 1997 Disney logo with the 2014 logo adds roughly 40 seconds or so to the beginning, meaning the theatrical release, the 1998 VHS, and 1999 DVD have that line happening roughly 40 seconds earlier. Still impressive it was that close to the halfway mark originally but I really have to assume it's just a coincidence. On the other hand Minority Report was able to pinpoint how long it was until the end credits start when they say how long until Anderton meets Crowe so it could have been intentional.
@@RENTnerd87 eh 40 seconds isn't that much of a difference... it's still roughly around the halfway point so i wouldn't use that as evidence of it being a coincidence
Seriously, though, he suuuuucks. If we were ranking the Disney parents, he'd be at the bottom. He isn't the worst parent, let's not lie, not when Mama Gothel exists. But he is the least enjoyable parent. Not just cause the parental redemption was weak, but because of wasted potential. At least in a deleted scene he helped protect Chicken from the media.
1:26:16 Funnily enough, in french both Scar and Frollo were voiced by the same actor (Jean Piat) and that's the only two roles he ever played in Disney movies. The guy left his mark
in the Brazilian version, Scar's VA also shared with Jafar and Anastasia's Rasputin (when he spoke, not when he sang) and Sykes from Oliver and Company The guy loved being mean
51:42 It gets even better when you realize there was no water in this pitcher. She put an empty pitcher there just so that the prisoner sees it's empty even if they managed to grab it by some off chance. Evil for the love of the game
"Man" is hilarious as an entry because he is a basketball stat sheet of a character, but is genuinely more effective as a diabolus ex machina than some characters with genuine personalities and arcs are as villains. He’s the perfect gatekeeper for the "real" villains

As someone who heavily hyperfixated on Captain Hook for a bit, it made me really happy to see how highly ranked he was considering how underrated he can be. Like fun fact, this man was planned to die as he does in the original source material. But the crew ended up liking him so much they were like “… but what if he didn’t?” This man evaded death by being a lovable villain and I think that deserved props
All of Peter Pan is a nothingburger plot propped up on fun, lovable characters, places and set pieces. A VHS copy of it was the first thing I ever bought with my own money, I've always loved it. Hook is such a perfect villain for it, and Smee and Tick Tock the croc as well (though one could argue that the villain of the villain is the hero).
I love Captain hook simply because he is a goofy villain who still does absolutely horrendous shit. Dude is silly and pompous, then proceeds to try to drown and shoot kids
watching the hunchback of notre dame is crazy…frollo is literally about to drop a baby down the well in the first 10 minutes and he justifies it so calmly-“i’m just sending it back to hell where it belongs”💀
Yeah, some older animated films in general just had NO chill. Like, Prince of Egypt literally opens with people being whipped, enslaved, and having their BABIES MURDERED.
Prince of Egypt and hunchback of Notre dame are probably the most serious animated movies i’ve seen. they have the most mature themes, even if notre dame had some tonal issues
@@p234gr8 ... I do hope you mean "most serious animated family movies" you've seen. I mean they're both phenomenal movies, but due to the requisite humor, they're never gonna be as serious as some adult animated movies.
Something else that really helps Frollo's effectiveness is that he's actually in the movie quite a lot. He actually has the most proportionate screen time out of all the Disney villains, being in about a third of Hunchback's runtime, and he doesn't waste a single second of it.
I'm pleasantly surprised Frollo still made the top of the list given Schaffrillas' video contrasting him negatively with his stage and book counterparts
@@carrotbunny5123That's true, and while I think people are allowed to look at renaissance Disney villains and hold them to a high standard, Frollo's got them all beat because he's not one dimensional. Whereas Frollo is willing to commit genocide over what he thinks is an act of righteous passage under the eyes of God. He's got layers is what I'm trying to say.
I think that it helps Frollo become the best villain because we know this guy would kill for absolutely nothing. Every scene where he's with Quasimodo or Esmerelda is one where there's tangible overwhelming tension purely due to this aspect of him.

The reason Shan Yu didn't care Mulan was a woman is because a lot of nomadic tribes in Asia had warrior women so it wouldn't be that out of the ordinary for him

As someone who got to play Jafar in a local stage production, I am admittedly biased towards him. His sliminess was so fun to portray. That being said, Claude Frollo is the right answer.
Something about Hellfire that I dont see mentioned enough is that the entire thing is him being given the chance to change. The "backing" vocals from the red cloaked spirits? Mea culpa, which means "through my fault" and is a part of confessions. His own delusions are being influenced by God to have him accept fault for this, to see his own guilt and move on. He asks for a solution from God, and he is literally given one. The random guard that comes in, whether a real guard or an angel, is that last chance. "She's gone, we can't find her. She won't be your problem anymore" But frollo doesnt care
Another thing I don’t think a lot of people realize is that he actually implicitly blames GOD for his sin as well when he says “He made the devil so much stronger than the man.” In other words, “it’s God’s fault that I’m giving into temptation.” Dude’s literally blaming everyone but himself and then doubling down. Excellent villain.

Unpopular opinion: I absolutely loved Bellwether before the twist. Her interactions with Judy sounded like she genuinely supported her dream as a cop. Even with Judy and Nick, a predator that Bellwether herself is supposed to have bigoted views towards, go to her for help, she treats BOTH of them friendly and her friendliness was also genuine. How the hell am I supposed to believe this character would be a psychopathic racist when her behavior previously didn't suggest that?
I *wanna* say the idea was that she herself doesn't really mind predators, and she was just using the public's prejudice as a tool to gain power, but I kinda feel like I'm putting more thought into this than the writers ever did.
I suppose it doesn't help when you position as the assistant mayor is nothing more than a glorified secretary, you possibly got the role to secure a minority vote (Which, when you consider Judy's position was also used by the mayor to prop himself up as being a result of his "Mammal Inclusion Initiative" act, doesn't sound out of place.) and worse of all, that shoddy coffee mug job, I could see some frustration, not for ALL predators, but some frustration. And yes, I agree. Her support of Judy was unquestionably honest.
I think the reason for her previous actions and politeness is not meant to suggest a genuine lack of discriminatory motives, rather I think she is mean to be the proverbial "wolf if sheeps clothing" made more literal. Someone who has learned to act one way while secretly feeling and even acting another way when they feel they can let the mask down. Its not that unheard of, but it is not what we normally expect, most people veen villians are somewhat honest with their feelings and emotions, the two facedness of someone who acts friendly and sweet towards people while secretly hating them is uniquely deceptive. Think palpatine as he nearly weeps for democracy and the republic while in private literally cackling about infinite power. If we got more flashbacks from Bellwether in more movies or a tv series the producers likely would have given us more to show the double faced nature but without its like showing palpatine one moment talking about freedom and the next hurling jedi out of windows.
Personally, I tend to give the antagonists of a mystery story some slack, because the twist is supposed to be the *point.* I'm not saying Bellweather is great, but I understood what they were going for. I probably wouldn't put her super high in my own hypothetical ranking, either, though.
He's a foil to Tarzan in that sense. He's also a foil to Jane and the profesor because they represent the good of civilization while he represents the evil of civilization. 42:43 - I do believe that this right moment in Mulan is a stark sign, that the musical era of Disney is over, at least from the narrative perspective. Just before that scene we had this troops' song and then... We cut to the burnt village. the silent moment of realisation of what Shan Yu is all about. The sheer darkness of his heart and the ruthlessness to all the fallen soldiers of Li Shang's father really cements it all. Man, I love Mulan, such a classic alongside with Hercules.
Wow. I've thought many times about how that ends the songs in Mulan (1998) but never thought about the following films. The next musical wouldn't be until Princess and the Frog (2009). (No, Tarzan and Brother Bear do not count as musicals because Phil Collins songs play in the background, even if the songs are bangers. No, Emperor's New Groove does not count as a musical because there is one song in the opening, though I do recommend you check out the deleted songs from the original musical Kingdom of the Sun version, especially Yzma's song "Snuff Out the Light")

I love him, because the whole thing started because he's worse at both math and biology than me, which I find hilarious. He literally thinks cats live 9 lives, and that each one stacks up, so he'll be dead by the time they're gone. This is hilariously dumb, and makes me love the movie so much.
Me and my brother always found him hilarious, especially his delivery (note: we watched the movie in French). We would say some of his lines at eachover and laugh
I wrote an entire paper in high school about how “Man” did absolutely nothing wrong and was entirely within the letter of the law, assuming only that bambis mother is killed in November-December, which is hunting season. Man did not deserve to die.
This implies that the law is what defines morality which frollo pretty well disproves since he is the law and is also not exactly a great dude. More importantly, man didn’t practice proper fire safety which is absolutely doing something wrong
Another point for Shan-Yu from Mulan: He is one of the only villains to do something so severe that the movie changes genres. Mulan stops being a musical once the soldiers come across the destroyed village.

*Fun fact related to Captain Hook and John Silver:* When the animators of Treasure Planet were trying to see if they could pull off making a 3D arm on a 2D character like Silver, they wanted to try it on some pre-existing footage of a character making some hand movements, they thought that the better way to do it was in Hook, since both him and Silver are pirates, so they picked up the scene that Schafrillas shows at 1:17:30 and made his arm 3D and robotic, once they liked the results, they continued with the idea. It's too bad Tamatoa doesn't count for this list, but Any chance to hear Schaffrillas bash Mr. That Was His Mistake is still more than worth it. Hearing him praise so many other legends is also a great gift.
Well Tamatoa not only got his own hour long video talking about how amazing he is, but an entire character arc in the Schaffrillas universe. That and we all know he would automatically make number one if he did count.
That clip from SpongeBob where Patrick's song destroys Bikini Bottom is such a funny way to show what a mess This is The Thanks I Get is as a Villain song.
to add to your whole Bambi MAN rant at 25:00, remember a while back how so many people were trying to pull mental gymnastics with the character of Death from puss in boots: the last wish. Going "oh, he's not a villain, he's just an antagonistic force/cosmic force" despite the fact he takes pleasure in the fear & suffering of the hero, is purposefully going beyond what he's allowed to do in order to kill puss, and is actively, physically fighting to try and murder puss. but Man, who is entirely an unseen presence with no character and only exists through the destructive acts they cause, & who could easily just be a metaphorical placeholder for the general ideas of death/tragedy occurring in life in general? Nope, 100% active villain no debate in any way, shape or form
I think the "force of nature" thing is mostly intended as a comparison to the other two evil factions, the irredeemable Jack Horner and the sympathetic Goldilocks and her bears. Death fits in neither of these categories, he can't be defeated or redeemed because death is inevitable. That being said, the whole reason he goes after Puss to take his last life early is because he felt scorned by him. That's Maleficent levels of pettiness, it's just that the guy who wants to kill the main character over a perceived slight in this movie also just so happens to be an unavoidable force of nature that everyone has to face eventually.
This could completely wrong but usually when I hear "force of nature" character it's something that cant be reasoned with and is *almost* unstoppable the best thing you can do is get out of the way, run and hide, or just wait for the inevitable, like a tornado or a hurricane, (Like the Martians from war of the worlds or Minus One Godzilla) Death went after Puss before his time was up literally cheating the laws of nature because he was personally offended by the comments of some random cat laughing about the fact he has 9 lives while he could've just waited for Puss to inevitably get himself killed and loose his final life.
The only thing I dislike about hades is that people who know nothing about Greek stories and only know him from popular media assume he’s the villain of the pantheon. Still a great Disney villain though.
If anything, Hades is kinda the least messed-up god out of the major ones. He's probably a little grumpy about not getting to draw sticks first for his lot since he's the oldest, but he just kinda sticks to himself. Pretty chill and reasonable guy, too, as long as you don't try to mess with his turf. He's also a pretty good husband, and went through the standard traditions before taking Persephone as his bride.
Exactly. He's probably the chillest god of them all, ruling over the kingdom of the dead fairly. The only 'bad' thing he did was kidnap Persephone to be his bride, but that was Zeus's doing. Her mother Demeter blamed Zeus, not Hades.
@@AtlasBlizzard Yeah, even then, Hades didn't really do anything all that wrong by ancient Greek standards. All you really had to do was ask the husband "hey, can I marry your daughter?", pass the vibe check, and go grab her to get hitched. If I remember right, Demeter would be the most in the wrong, as (according to my admittedly rusty memory on the topic, so feel free to correct me on this) the mother was never really involved in that choice. Of course, by today's standards, her frustration is understandable (even if her rage was a bit excessive), but it's unfair to judge the past by the present's standards.
Agreed, I love Disney's Hades as a character, it's just a shame that he contributes to the common impression that gods of the underworld are automatically evil and underworld = hell. I'm mostly invested in mythological Hades as one of my favourite gods of the Greek pantheon, but I believe Anubis suffers from the same misconceptions about underworld deities. Still, if I separate Disney Hades from Greek Hades, he's one of my favourite villains ever.
Best Hades depiction IMO is from, well, Hades (the game). In that game, he's not evil, just extremely grumpy. He's stuck with an endless amount of paperwork, his wife left him, and his rebellious son keeps going on a rampage through the underworld (that leaves him with more paperwork). Also he thinks all of his extended family are idiots.
Yes, because scientifically, the color blue has a smaller wavelength than red. It means that it takes more energy to create blue light as opposed to red light. However, we have a social association of the color blue with water, which can be cold and red with fire and lava, which are hot. So, yeah, it can cause some confusion.
@@RandomDragonEXE More than that. Robin Hood and Jungle Book took advantage of rotoscoping to minimize the amount of unique animation required. Baloo and Little John share a lot of animation. I'm pretty sure Sir Hiss exists because they already had resources for Kaa, and they needed a supplemental villain for Prince John to talk to. Prince John isn't going to be revealing his plans to the Sheriff.
The Gaston Trilogy is so funny and iconic I can’t not hear it or see it when I watch Beauty. But here’s the thing, Beauty is so damn good that it doesn’t have anything taken away from it at all. It’s not often that a parody enhances or at least doesn’t detract a little from your experience watching the original.
52:11 if anyone is wondering it's because Prince John and the king who returns at the end, King Richard III the Lionheart, are actual historical figures. King Richard left England to go fight in the Third Crusade and his brother Prince John was left in charge in his absence. I won't get into their relationship or how the public views him cause that's a whole mess. But short version is that Robinhood was a preexisting folk hero long before the two of them lived. People loved Richard so much and hated John so much that later versions of the Robinhood tale graft Richard and John to the myth and have Robinhood resisting the evil Prince John and his corrupt henchmen until the true king is able to return home and restore peace and order. That's also why the king just kinda shows up at the end.
That still didn’t need to happen. For instance, in the 1938 Robin Hood film, King Richard’s retaking of his kingdom is the subject of the whole climax. But they didn’t even necessarily need to do that. Just have it show up and throw open the castle doors dramatically around the time of the final battle, don’t have him return offscreen
With Frollo the only thing is you didnt bring up his amazing vocal performance!! If I remember right you did in your villain songs ranking, but it's definitely worth a mention here!! Literally there is no one else who could have voiced him as well as Tony Jay did. It's not sassy like most of the 90's villains, or charismatic like others (which Jay is 100% capable of), it's just wretched evil. But still super great vid and I'm so happy with this ranking!!
Even 'That was his mistake' could have worked honestly. Have Callaghan say it whilst clearly holding back tears so that Hero can be mad and want to kill him, and then have him show genuine remorse at the end of the movie.
It's crazy how the single line of THAT WAS HIS MISTAKE tanked the film. If they just had a single line about how Tadashi dying was a regretful mistake and he never wanted to hurt the dude, the film would have been leaps and bounds better.
I agree. Logically, I know the callous response was meant to trigger Hiro into wanting revenge on Callahan and needing to go through his own growth of “that’s not what Tadashi would have wanted.” However, there were other ways this could have been accomplished. He could have been cold towards Hiro’s grief without saying Tadashi died because he was an idiot.
@@Rikrobat I saw another comment that said the line could stay the same, but as a heat of the moment thing where he immediately shows regret for saying it
23:18 The thing is, I think that line couldve actually still worked. if only the execution and delivery were different. Rather than it being a thoughtless bark from a frustrated Callahan, have it be a rationalization of someone whos in too deep. When Hero tells him that Tadashi went in to save him, have Callahan pause for a moment, his features softening as he processes such a thought, his prized pupils death being on his hands. But he doesnt allow himself to dwell on the thought, because it would mean that his whole mission is scrutinizd. In denial, he hesitantly mutters "That...that was his mistake." A lie, aimed inward.
jokes aside, I kinda disagree with Schaff's point about Calaghan's plan of sucking up the buildings in the portal he said it himself, Krey took everything away from him and now he's gonna take everything away from Krey also I do kinda like how Calaghan and Hero have parallels in dialogue When Baymax asked him if this is what Tadashi would've wanted, he said "Tadashi is gone!" Calaghan responded with the same thing in the movie "Abigail is gone" so it kindaaa makes sense even if it's kinda dumb it at least parallels with the protagonist's conflict
Or as another commenter suggested, have Callahan blurt out the line but immediately look pained from his own words. Just a flash of regret would've showed his humanity and kept him as a sympathetic villain.
49:26 - Dr. Facilia was in the cafe when Tianna mentioned needing money for her restaurant. That being said, that still doesn’t explain how he knew about her father but who knows.
24:42 his “THATS NOTHING!!!” And onward was so powerful! I understand where he is coming from but I seriously never thought that many people would say that 🧍♂️ is the best Disney Villian ever
As someone who's watched Atlantis about 6 times now, I didn't even notice what James pointed out of how casually he talks pre and post betrayal and how much realer that makes him seem! Also, I think Rourke is an ignored candidate for the whole "best disney villain death" competition. How the crystal's protective measure is supposed to help it and that confusing move being the setup for the climax is one of the only parts of the film I think is flimsy, but that little reveal of what it can do was SO SICK
When you think about it, Judge Claude Frollo is the only villain who got away with murder on screen in the first 10 minutes of the movie in disney history
5:30 Ok hear me out on Edgar. The scene where he does the math on how long it’ll take him to get the money is so funny. “Each cat only lives about twelve years… and they each nine lives! Four times twelve times nine times…”
Edgar is fun. He's not a peak Disney villain, but I would argue that he's quite entertaining. Strong B tier villain imo. I didn't get Schaff's placement at all for him.
Yeah I also don't think Edgar is the best villain, hell he isn't even that good, but yk he is at least funny and well animated in some scenes, that should be enough to at least bup him up above the thanos guy from moana 2 imo.
What scares me most about Frollo is that he doesn't need to be a magical creature, have a powerful trident or even a genie's lamp to be scary... Frollo is scary for the simple fact that he is 100% human.
He's not only human, but a human in a position of power, only barely superseded by the church. It takes a full-on revolt to stop him after he arrested a lot of romani, tried to kill an innocent family, and then tried to execute Esmerelda.
Kinda like Umbridge in Harry Potter, he's a very cruel, petty, and sanctimonious person with no special powers that others don't have, but in a position of power, there's people in history that were like them and people you've probably encountered that are like them, they're very real villains
Something that I think goes under appreciated (or maybe I just never see any praise for them) are the little clips that accompany every placement. It’s honestly my favorite part of a Schaffrillas ranking video. I live for that little half second where I try to rapidly figure out what movie/character is getting the spot based entirely on that, and the few seconds afterwards when it makes sense is so fun every time.
41:51 in the Spanish dub of Mulan, Shang Yu calls Mulan "El Soldado de la montaña", the MALE soldier from the mountains, which makes his disregard for her specific gender even cooler, in a way.
Yeah, in Portuguese they did the same "O Soldado da Montanha", It's so simple but it always makes my skin crawl. Shan Yu has one of the most chilling Disney villain lines
You hit the nail on the head on why Frollo is ultimately the best disney villain to ever be made. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favourite Disney film ever and for years it felt like no one else appreciated it like how I did as a kid. So to see the villain from my favourite film place top in the list genuinely makes me feel overwhelmed with happiness. I generally agree with this list as well, though I'd personally switch a few around.
1:11:21 in the Brazilian version, for some reason that I can't say why, they even changed "you are more evil than you and me" for "out of disgust he killed his parents". I mean, as if drowning orphans and widows wasn't enough, they added familicide to Ratigan's list of crimes just because EDIT: OKAY, HEAR ME OUT, I took another look at both versions that after the part "Worse than the widows and orphans you drowned?" they changed the phrase “You are the best of the worst” to “Whoever was left, you strangled”.... Like, what kind of conspiracy happened here that decided to turn Ratigan into Disney's cruelest villain, before Frollo? It's because he's a evil gay? I think that it's because he's a evil gay
The italian version instead implies he was the one who built the big ben, somehow? Instead of the song beginning with "From the mind that brought you the Big Ben caper", he just goes "From the mind that *created* the Big Ben"
I like how owning "racist cats" is attributed to Aunt Sarah as if she personally trained them to be racist depictions

Scar is unique cause he’s such a brat, and not a brat that doesn’t get anything, he gets everything he wanted and still bitches. Fun!!!
Hard agree with this. Frollo is a villain who technicly "already won". Hes in a position of power, he cleary loves his job, doesnt care if the 'guilty' die, and cleary does whatever he wants while within reason. Hes also cleary human, hes a messed up twisted human who fears the Judgement of God while believing hes Humble and Just (even thou we see plenty of evidence of otherwise, like when he gos to teach Quasi his lessons.)
Him lusting after Esmeralda and wanting her, isnt the biggest or most grand goal, but when you consider that hes been a Judge for a long while... you start to wonder if Esmeralda was the only one he lusted after, and was simply the first that was denied to him for a long time.
It was handled so well too, Hiro said Tadashi would have wanted him to forgive Callaghan, and he hoped someday he'd be able to.
ikr
so unfortunate that both Callaghan AND the writers realized this too late

What does being a dude have to do with anything
I feel like they could have fixed Callahan’s “That was his mistake!” line if he showed regret immediately after saying it. Like a heat in the passion moment. It would still result in Hiro getting upset and remove Baymax’s chip, and still make Callahan feel human.
I believe one dub translated that line a bit differently, and if translated back to English, would read like "I didn't ASK him to save me!", implying more of a regretful tone.
@@LloydTheZephyrian Thats phenomenally better
Even better, we can rewrite the line beforehand to add more precedent to that:
Hiro: You let him die…
Callaghan: Let him die? You think I planned for him to just run in there, without any care for his life?!
Hiro: He tried to save you!
Callaghan: Cue “that was his mistake* and regret

The reason Shan Yu didn't care Mulan was a woman is because a lot of nomadic tribes in Asia had warrior women so it wouldn't be that out of the ordinary for him
You know what, as someone who studies history, it makes perfect sense now. You’ve opened a new perspective for me!
Its actually interesting that most warrior based societies had more of an equal roles between men and women in thier cultures compared to more agricultural centered societys
🤣😂 TH-cam comment section historians strike again with their vast intelligence... Yes warrior women existed, but claiming that they were "ordinary" in ANY type of ancient tribe/society is pure drivel.

51:48 Knowing that a sequel was planned to make that skeleton Snow White’s father makes this scene all that much darker to me.
She won't be your problem anymore"
But frollo doesnt care
Right? I adore the stage musical of Hunchback; but damn the loss of that moment hurts.
I love the angel guard theory.
Excellent villain.

as a Christian myself it bothers me to NO END when people do horrible crap, whether that's racism or sexism or whatever, and then try to associate with Christianity or use it as a justification. because not only is that just completely wrong and violates dozens of Jesus' actual recorded teachings, but it also gives everyone else a completely (yet understandably) misinformed view of what Christianity actually is. not only do I wish people would stop taking bad people's religious claims at face value, but I wish religious people would go to greater lengths to demonstrate how those people completely misrepresent religion as a whole
Right here. This is what i wanted of most of religion people, and do action based on their religion isn't that preachy or bit of force just for their own religion sake.
Its thanks to those types of people that I'm convinced a lot of christians only cherrypick bible quotes they agree with while ignoring anything from the bible that says otherwise. I don't wanna get involved with Christianity because I feel like I might become one of those people if I do and there will be no turning back. It pains me too because I know not all of them are like this due to having religious grandparents.
@@easiestcc6451 As a former gentile New Yorker turned devout Christian, I hear you. Jesus was really taboo for me as well. The problem for me was that I associated imperfect so-called Christians with Jesus, therefore making Him imperfect. We all fall short of the glory of God, even myself, fortunately, all who have faith in Christ are made right with God. Just because we believe in Jesus and have our sins forgiven DOES NOT make ANY of the bad things we do all right. I know you didn't make this TH-cam comment so you could start a long religious thread, but my friend, I can tell you that God wants YOU and all who read this to follow his son Jesus Christ... factually. I imagine yall are talking about frollo, and that's why he's one of the best Disney villains in my book. He uses religion to justify his prejudice against Quazimodo, and especially his desire for Esmerelda, blaming her for his feelings that he complicates. There are real people out there who twist religion like he does, and that's what makes him so terrifying

I find that opinion valid. Me personally I never gave a damn about her from beginning to end. That’s just a me thing though.
Clayton is a good villain because he's the toxic masculinity to Tarzan's positive masculinity
He's a foil to Tarzan in that sense. He's also a foil to Jane and the profesor because they represent the good of civilization while he represents the evil of civilization.
And he's a foil to Kerchak because they both use brute strenght and hate what's different, but one does it for profit and the other for fear of any harm coming to his family.

No need for musical songs when Run Llama Run is worth 5 on its own
Schaffrillas, I've got to tell you something. I have been a Edgar fan since I was four. The part on the stairs with George and the bits with the two dogs will be always one of the funniest things I have ever seen. He's no Hades sure, but he holds a place in my hart.
I love his little tip-toes, finger-tapping dance
I love him, because the whole thing started because he's worse at both math and biology than me, which I find hilarious. He literally thinks cats live 9 lives, and that each one stacks up, so he'll be dead by the time they're gone. This is hilariously dumb, and makes me love the movie so much.
i felt like angela from smosh meekly saying "hey what's wrong with edgar :("
Me and my brother always found him hilarious, especially his delivery (note: we watched the movie in French). We would say some of his lines at eachover and laugh
He’s the GOAT
I wrote an entire paper in high school about how “Man” did absolutely nothing wrong and was entirely within the letter of the law, assuming only that bambis mother is killed in November-December, which is hunting season. Man did not deserve to die.
At least you got a good grade out of it 😂
This implies that the law is what defines morality which frollo pretty well disproves since he is the law and is also not exactly a great dude. More importantly, man didn’t practice proper fire safety which is absolutely doing something wrong
Another point for Shan-Yu from Mulan: He is one of the only villains to do something so severe that the movie changes genres. Mulan stops being a musical once the soldiers come across the destroyed village.
That scene always gives me goosebumps. The somewhat silly song cutting off to reveal such a haunting moment… I miss old Disney so much.

It's too bad Tamatoa doesn't count for this list, but Any chance to hear Schaffrillas bash Mr. That Was His Mistake is still more than worth it. Hearing him praise so many other legends is also a great gift.
my brother in christ, the video has been out for like 2 minutes, can you wait on the likefarming to make it look atleast more realistic?
he confirmed that tamatoa is too powerful for this video
so we won't get to hear him sing tamatoa's praises
No they got Schaffrillas 😭
Well Tamatoa not only got his own hour long video talking about how amazing he is, but an entire character arc in the Schaffrillas universe. That and we all know he would automatically make number one if he did count.
@TheDiamondCore Well at least they're an actual person and not some stupid bot or sex lurer.
How could you forget the iconic scene where Man says “why did Bambi’s Mom get shot? Is she stupid?”
She was working for the Jonkler
Emphasis on the "shape and form"
Fun fact: When Hades gets angry, his hair fire gets colder
Yes, because scientifically, the color blue has a smaller wavelength than red. It means that it takes more energy to create blue light as opposed to red light. However, we have a social association of the color blue with water, which can be cold and red with fire and lava, which are hot. So, yeah, it can cause some confusion.
@@abdulwasey3506thank you for saying this so I didn’t have to
The idea of all the warmth of his hair going directly to him when he gets mad goes hard
@@riasicoand thank you for saying that so I didn’t have to.
did he lose his cool
Bambi caused Schaff's "You are NOT a gamer" moment
I used to think the snake in the Jungle Book was also in Robin Hood, but that was Hiss. Mistake
The animatots borrowed and drew inspiration from Kaa for Sir Hiss, plus they have the same hypnosis powers, so that's probably why.
Underrated comment.
@@RandomDragonEXEKaa and Hiss are probably of the same species and/or are cousins who just happen to both have hypnotic powers.
Nahh I see what you did there
@@RandomDragonEXE More than that.
1:12:51 so so glad you used this for the Gaston sound
The Gaston Trilogy is so funny and iconic I can’t not hear it or see it when I watch Beauty. But here’s the thing, Beauty is so damn good that it doesn’t have anything taken away from it at all. It’s not often that a parody enhances or at least doesn’t detract a little from your experience watching the original.
Dude, that fucked me up
I like how he previously calls Edgar delightfully petty and now he's ranked second lowest and called stupid.
" and You. ARe WEARING. HIS MERCHANDISE!?!?!?!?!?!?"
@@officialmonarchmusic ok cool but the post is just explaining why there's 2 Johns
@@skilledwarmanOops. So sorry, didn’t click the timestamp to check
Richard I, not III. Sorry
@@officialmonarchmusicExactly. There is no excuse for Robin Hood's ending.
Schaffrillas, your argument about comparing "The Man" being just as villainous as the finding Nemo barracuda is an excellent point
Why did Man not do a villain monologue? Is he stupid?
It's crazy how the single line of THAT WAS HIS MISTAKE tanked the film. If they just had a single line about how Tadashi dying was a regretful mistake and he never wanted to hurt the dude, the film would have been leaps and bounds better.
I agree. Logically, I know the callous response was meant to trigger Hiro into wanting revenge on Callahan and needing to go through his own growth of “that’s not what Tadashi would have wanted.” However, there were other ways this could have been accomplished. He could have been cold towards Hiro’s grief without saying Tadashi died because he was an idiot.
THAT WAS A REGRETFUL MISTAKE
@@Rikrobat I saw another comment that said the line could stay the same, but as a heat of the moment thing where he immediately shows regret for saying it
@ I agree. He could have said the same thing and show regret for it later.
In denial, he hesitantly mutters "That...that was his mistake." A lie, aimed inward.
it could've been solved if he shit said that was his 🥩
jokes aside, I kinda disagree with Schaff's point about Calaghan's plan of sucking up the buildings in the portal
he said it himself, Krey took everything away from him and now he's gonna take everything away from Krey
also I do kinda like how Calaghan and Hero have parallels in dialogue
When Baymax asked him if this is what Tadashi would've wanted, he said "Tadashi is gone!"
Calaghan responded with the same thing in the movie "Abigail is gone"
so it kindaaa makes sense even if it's kinda dumb
it at least parallels with the protagonist's conflict
Or as another commenter suggested, have Callahan blurt out the line but immediately look pained from his own words. Just a flash of regret would've showed his humanity and kept him as a sympathetic villain.
That would of made the scene so much better and not make him look so heartless
49:26 - Dr. Facilia was in the cafe when Tianna mentioned needing money for her restaurant. That being said, that still doesn’t explain how he knew about her father but who knows.
Well his whole occupation is fortune teller and his friends are spirits from another dimension. I wouldn't question at all why he knows anything.
24:42 his “THATS NOTHING!!!” And onward was so powerful! I understand where he is coming from but I seriously never thought that many people would say that 🧍♂️ is the best Disney Villian ever
1:09:44 creepiest part is how well he took to becoming a giant bug. Or how we managed to overtake it with sheer willpower
37:56 OMG EPIC: THE MUSICAL RECOGNITION WOOOO
YUHHHH 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
I THOUGHT THE SAME THING!!!!!
LETS GO EPIC MOMENT WOOOOO
God that was a jump scare for me
I was about to comment the same thing. Never been happier to be jumpscared by a song
"ANYWAY MUCH LONGER THAN I'LL EVER LIVE"
Edgar is fun. He's not a peak Disney villain, but I would argue that he's quite entertaining. Strong B tier villain imo. I didn't get Schaff's placement at all for him.
Yeah I also don't think Edgar is the best villain, hell he isn't even that good, but yk he is at least funny and well animated in some scenes, that should be enough to at least bup him up above the thanos guy from moana 2 imo.
@InksDoesArts literally
He’s a fun dumb villain who I do kinda feel bad for that he got passed over for the will.
Good job on stealing this from every other frollo related comment section
1:01:38 Now very tempted to watch Atlantis just because I’m jealous of how stupidly good that line is written and delivered
You should watch it, it's really really good
I watched it this summer with all my siblings, and gosh, I don't know why we waited so long. It's so good, and all the characters are awesome.
Awesome movie, great setting, beautiful visuals, Atlantis rocks
Ratigan is a petty king. I love him. He doesn't get the respect he deserves
Same. The Captain Hook segment took me out when I pieced it together 😂
"I promised myself Ta co belle"
@owenaspinall2046 Ytp: Gaston goes on a mission to obtain taco bell
My personal favorite part is the Maurice raving scene.
That’s my favorite parts too
It really shows this guy’s knowledge of media very well in a way I wish I could too
My favorite clip is "because singing killed my wife Tails" from the Direct to DVD ranking
I absolutely love the real, burning, venomous, acerbic hatred for the notion that "man" from Bambi is a villain. Finally SOMEONE said it.
41:51 in the Spanish dub of Mulan, Shang Yu calls Mulan "El Soldado de la montaña", the MALE soldier from the mountains, which makes his disregard for her specific gender even cooler, in a way.
That could just be a translation error or Soldado has a unisex use, of that I am aware soldado is unisex at some degree. (Main lenguage is spanish)
Yeah, in Portuguese they did the same
"O Soldado da Montanha", It's so simple but it always makes my skin crawl.
I mean, as if drowning orphans and widows wasn't enough, they added familicide to Ratigan's list of crimes just because
EDIT: OKAY, HEAR ME OUT, I took another look at both versions that after the part "Worse than the widows and orphans you drowned?" they changed the phrase
“You are the best of the worst” to “Whoever was left, you strangled”....
….hUHHHH?! Why did they actively rewrite certain lines to make him worse?!?! I kinda love that xP
