    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    The Hanson Brothers show the audience a violent, hilarious disgrace on the ice.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Paul Newman plays Reggie Dunlop, the coach of a pathetic minor-league American hockey team. His career at a standstill and his marriage in tatters, Dunlop has nothing to lose by taking on a new group of players who are one evolutionary step above Neanderthals. Only when the team begins winning does he decide to get behind these players, and to encourage the rest of the team to play as down-and-dirty as the newcomers. Straight-arrow team member Ned Braden (Michael Ontkean) resents this influx of gonzo talent, preferring to play clean. As the film's multitude of subplots play themselves out, Dunlop does his best to keep the outraged Braden on the team. Slap Shot is the sort of film for which the "R" rating was invented: Its nonstop barrage of profanity and its raunchy action sequences are of such intensity that the film will probably never be shown intact on commercial television.

      I catered a Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Dinner at the Johnstown Memorial Arena in the mid 1980s ......we set up in Street clothes, then put on our Monkey Suits to Serve, so we dressed in the locker rooms. there were photos of the movie production all over the Arena, and the Zamboni Driver was still on the Crew. The Stories we heard! We were based in Pittsburgh, so this was like a Mini Road trip.....the Johnstown Crew helped us cleanup, and pack up our Caravan of trucks filled with dirty dishes and Pans and Banquet Supplies.....about 1:30 in the morning. A very favorite memory in my life......I was just a pickup Hockey player, but went on to play College Hockey, and didn't stop til I was 45

    • @jkorshak
      @jkorshak 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What so many people get confused about, "old time hockey" - when Newman's character says they're going to go out and play "old time hockey," he means clean hockey - none of the goonery. He wanted to play the final game clean without all the violence that the Chiefs had become infamous for. So, "old time hockey" isn't the Hansons busting heads - it's the exact opposite.

      sejdaren Ilmarinen are you saying Swede players have never dived? Give me a break, there's multiple dives that happen per game but no one notices. Canada was missing their #1 goalies and maybe had one player present at the worlds who would make their olympic team, maybe. You had: your #1 goalie, #1 center, #2 defensemen along with many other players that can easily make your olympic team: Nylander, Landeskog, Rask, Soderberg, Lindholm, OEL. You should not be complaining about a dive when you had way better players present on your team.
