    You guys could be salesman for Mizuno without a doubt! The most in treating and a valuable part about this though is there is no smoke and mirrors, you two are giving your honest, unbiased, and raw opinion and I’m STILL sold on these irons! Can’t wait to test them as soon as possible, hopefully they are the winning ticket I have been searching for all season

    Went to my local Pro and hit over a dozen makes and models of the latest irons. Mizuno JPX 919 Hot Metal Irons were Easily the Very Best for me. I'm 65 now and my swing speed has dropped a bit for the Blades I've had for many years. This was a Perfect Upgrade for me. Beautiful Looking, Great Sound, Very Forgiving and Long Distance. I was extremely Impressed! I Got "Fit" for them and am glad I did. I ordered a full set. The great thing was I got Project-X Graphite Shafts (Stiff) Plus Golf Pride Grips - at No Extra Charge from Mizuno! I usually hit Vice Pro Plus or Kirkland Signature Balls for Excellent Results at Half the Price of Pro V1's. Go Get Fit for these and Never Look Back... ENJOY! -Mike Ericsson Monroe, WA.

    Got the JPX 919 Hot Metals and they were the best feeling irons I’ve hit. Better than the hot metal pros also. The original 919 Hot Metal is the best you can get as a GI iron

    Got mine a few days ago. Went and got fitted for the first time after watching your channel, and really enjoyed the whole experience! Got the 919 hot metals with Project X 6.5 shafts, 2 degrees upright and plus 2 wraps on the grips. So far after just hitting at the range I’m already in love with the feel. Gonna test on course in about and hour! Great channel keep up the great work.

    I have the JPX900 forged 5 thru PW. Mizuno doesn’t make wedges in this set. Instead I use Hot Metal SW and LW with the same shaft as the rest of the set. Sort of a blended set but in reverse. I’m very happy with the set, best golf clubs I’ve ever owned.

    I placed an order for these yesterday after comparing them to several other irons including the TM P790, Ping I500 and the AP 3. For the performance, feel, look and price I agree they are hard to beat in a game improvement iron. I'm a former scratch player but now at age 62 play to a 10 as age and lack of playing has taken it's toll a bit. I gained at least 10 yrs per club and the forgiveness is incredible. Hopefully my order beats the rush after your glowing review! Keep up the great work guys!

  • @adh1308

    I'm curious to know for people commenting on testing this with a slower swing speed... why? What does swing speed and handicap have to do with each other? I would now be considered a higher handicap since I don't get out to play as much as I used to and I swing my irons at 94 mph. Just because I can swing an iron fairly quickly doesn't mean I can middle it every time. I think this iron to Ian and Matt's point is for people who have a preferred trajectory and people playing these irons could be a lower handicap. Paige Spirnac, a really good golfer just put these in the bag. I do understand that a lot of golfers with slower swing speeds will be interested in these irons for some more ball speed, but that's not the only market for these types of irons. Great review Ian and Matty. You 2 are the best.

    I bought the 919 hot metal with a 6.0 Liz shaft. Love everything about the irons. However, I need to lower my trajectory with them. I’ve lost yards instead of gained. I am a strong player and a 9 handiecapper with a high ball flight. Would going with the 6.5 Lz make enough difference or should I consider a new shaft all together. I played kbs c-taper 130 X prior to these but really enjoy the shaft in these clubs specifically the feeling and awareness.

  • @mooremike44
    @mooremike44 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    These irons really seem like they are the real deal. A great follow up video would be to gap a blended set of hot metal and forged. Showing what adjustments would be needed to go from a forged 7 iron to a hot metal 6 iron would be great.

  • @trxe420
    @trxe420 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So my question is. Who wouldn't benefit from the higher, further and more forgiving iron. That said, for a lot of people (myself included) I love the look of blades. In fact, I struggle with turf interaction on most wider sole irons. So I play the mp-18s, but I may be getting some hot metals in the 3-4-5. Maybe make a nice driving iron in these with the right shaft? I hit the jpx 900 hot metals in the past and was blown away with the results.

    The concept of a 'golf season' seems so funny to me as a northern Australian. 'Winter time' here means it's 25* Celsius out on the course. Makes me feel very lucky to be able to play all 12 months of the year. Surely you get frustrated as a golf nut in Canada when the course is buried in snow?

      Man you have no idea...lol. As a weekend golfer you just get rolling in July and August and all of a sudden it's September and if you're lucky you get another month of decent weather and then you're down into the teens and colder for October with the occasional warmer period. Wind starts to blow, leaves all over the course making it hard to find balls in the rough...etc. Oh the humanity!!

      Well we do have indoor driving ranges here. The local one is about 75 yards long but I've been in a couple in Calgary that are 100 yards long. When a company lists bounce, are they referring to the leading bounce or trail bounce? Is there an industry standard for bounce listings? I noticed 919 Hot Metals are listed as what seems to be very low bounce compared to other GI irons, but the iron soles are moderately thick. Would they only fall into the game improving category for someone with a shallow swing looking for strike forgiveness? I am between these and the i500, loved the feeling and look of the Hot Metals, but am a bit concerned about the low bounce/turf interaction (I used to play Ping G30, but hated the extreme offset). I love the channel, and any extra info would be appreciated!

    I'm playing Wilson Staff C300 Forged irons. KBS Tour 90--stiff. Slow tempo transition. I just keep getting too many knuckle balls. Carried a 9-iron last night north of 150 yards, landed on the green (good flight) and it wouldn't hold the green. Couple of holes before had 180 yards to the flag, (front of the green) hit a 7-iron and it rolled out to 200 yards. Landed 185 yards. I play ProV 1x. I'm looking for spin/stopping power. And I am more than happy to sacrifice some yards. Thoughts? I was custom fit for these irons in the spring. Standard length. 2 degrees upright. Now my miss is left. But more long misses than anything.

Considering these are more ‘’ jumpy’’ than the forged, could you comment about how you adjust loft to keep the appropriate gapping distance ? I think a lot of low single handicap players are like me in being somehow accurate with irons but always looking for additional yardage on long irons. This would be fun having a video about how to ‘’combo’’ sets of irons... thks guys for your amazing job.

    In terms of adding or subtracting bounce, if a person blended these with 919 forged short irons, is it better to bend the Hot Metal long irons weaker or the forged short irons stronger in order to make consistent gapping?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      2º bounce in either direction is not likely to make much of a difference in an iron set - would be more concerned with matching the iron heads and lofts to the desired ball flight i.e. high ball hitter would bend 919 forged strong to match 919 hot metals.

    Matt, Ian, as these clubs are meant to be for higher HC-er I think you should not test them at Matts pro-like swing speed. The targeted customer group may have swing speeds 7i 75-85 mph. For this kind of hitting it would be interesting to know apex, spin and decent angle, and of course distance.
    Maybe you could add these infos to your tests for GI irons. Thx

    I went out and the 919 Hot Metal last week. It was a 7 iron (30 degrees), had a C-taper X plus 1/2”. Srixon Z-star ball. Indoor with Trackman. Here are my numbers just looking for some feed back if they look consistent with the set up of the club. These are averages for about 12 swings. Felt really good off the face with a real high flight averaged about 130ft of Apex.
    SS-96mph / BS-136 / carry -191 /
    Spin - 6904 / Launch 17 degrees.
    Thanks for the feedback. Love your videos.

    Hey guys how do you feel about the 919 forged. Trying to build a short list for my fitting on Wednesday, current gamer is the Xforged 18 and before that was the apex pro 16
    Thanks again Zack.

      The no charge shaft and grip customization of the 919s make them hard to beat. Plus Mizuno's shaft optimizer 3D is the real deal for shaft and lie angle fitting.

    Are you guys fitting many people into mixed sets of JPX919? Such as Hot Metal in the 4 and 5i, Forged in the 6 7, and tour in the 8 9 pw? I really prefer a thinner top line and soft feel, but I think I'd struggle to get good enough strikes on the Tour and maybe the forged long irons.

    • @clubchampionmedia

      Still a pretty new line to the shop, but combo sets would certainly be an option we present in many cases

    Hi
    Interesting review. I'm currently looking to update my irons and am looking at Callaway Rogues, Ping G700s and Titleist AP3. But neither my local pro shop nor American Golf stock mizuno.
    Also I think the video would benefit from a little more of Matt's testing shots. Could you perhaps add in at the editing stage better close ups of the head as we can't make out much from the fixed camera views. We need something like you in the UK.

    Last year I tried both the JPX900 Hot Metal and the MP18-MMC and found them completely different, I hated the look and feel of the Hot Metal but loved the MMC (but struggled to control a draw with it). I am a low/mid HC golfer (on a good day, single figures) but I would not be happy with the very high flight in these irons, it would be difficult to control on a windy day on a links course. However, like many golfers I struggle with longer irons. Could you blend a 4i/5i in Hot Metal with, for example 919 forged?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup you sure could, with some loft customization needed for gapping

    Ian, try pronouncing the material as "chome-ollie" or "kro-molly" depending on your emphasis. It's a material widely used in car suspension parts, for example.

    Great info!! Better feel than the P790? Which one is longer? Thanks for the great video!!

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Better feel yes, which one is longer would depend on the players' swing. P790 are lower spin so they would be longer for a mid-high spin player, not necessarily the optimal ball flight for everyone though

    Great review! I really liked these the two times I've hit them, just waiting to get to hit them along side the 919 Forged (should be this week)! Gapping was my main concern with these, these flew 20 yards farther than my current 7i.

    Matt & Ian, Aside from one's handicap number, what swing and/or performance characteristics would qualify a golfer as in need of "Game-Improvement" irons? Same question for "Mid-Handicap" irons?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mostly comes down to ball striking ability, some players hit their irons quite centered and straight but have a higher handicap due to poor driving, short game or putting. Generally game improvement irons are designed to hit the ball higher, farther and less right while giving better mishit results than a smaller iron.

    I just hit the new Hot Metal Pros today versus the Srixon 585 and 785 - and the 7 iron was spinning 400 rpms more than both these clubs. While I think I personally liked the feel slightly better of the 585s versus the new Hot Metal Pros (very slightly), the spin was just too low in my opinion and created a few fliers. For me a Callaway Apex Pro CF16 player last year (who had my clubs stolen at the end of the year on the range), the new Pros is going to be my choice because of Mizunos no charge upgrade of shaft and grip choices, the sound / feel of the club, the acceptable spin range and finally the ability to bend the loft and lie as Ian stated to dial in the clubs.

  • @mikemarshall6231
    @mikemarshall6231 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How would you compare them to the standard 0311 gen 1 irons? In terms of performance and feel, discounting cost. Ian, if I remember correctly I think you’ve hit the 0311, I don’t think Matt has? For me I like a mid-high flight with some stopping power. I’m currently fitted into the KBS tour 120

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually a fairly comparable iron Mike, ball flight likely would be pretty similar so a lot would come down to personal preference in look and feel
