  • In this video we will be resoling a pair of Carolina Work Boots with a pair of Vibram Sierra Soles model #1276.
This is a resole of just the tread and is not a full rebuild.
The Sierra sole from Vibram is perfect to get some better sole traction and wears much longer as well.

I never knew you could add that vibram sole to the crepe sole. You teach use something new with each video. Great informative video as always.

I was watching another cobbler resole some boots and they used an inch of foam to build it up and then sanded a large amount of exess very, very aggressively. It made me so nervous! This video was much less anxiety inducing.

Great job 👍🏼 The Sierra soles on top of the Cristy sole look pretty good, but I think it would look better if it was trim down like you were saying they would look even better.

Yes they definitely would. The gentlemen wanted it a little thicker though witch is actually a very common request when doing it this way

Those soles have another 4-5 months left in ‘em!! I wear mine until they’re literally polished flat lol. No, I don’t have foot or back pain.

You could always mail in your repairs to us but if you would like to let me know the city you are in maybe there might be a good cobbler at least within your state that I can help you get in contact with.

Interesting comments about heat. I leave my oil tanned, and CXL natural leather boots on my 2FL balcony deck all the time.
The sunlight and heat from the sun seems to do the leather justice. The patina that comes out of the natural leather is gorgeous, IMHO.
No problems with the soles. I guess the Goodyear welted stitching is doing what it is supposed to do?
I am not disagreeing with you. I can see how additional heat can harm this type of sole, which is glued on.

I’ve been wearing my Belleville (usmc stamp)boots with the 1276 sole since ‘06 and can’t seem to find the correct color name for the sole let alone availability. It’s olive/sage. Idk where you’re located but I’d be glad to mail you the pair to repair.

As someone who wears boots daily, I've never understood the whole Moc Toe thing. They seem very popular but I've worked concrete construction and they wouldn't last.

I want to put the Vibram Sierra on my Thorogood Mocs. Just like you did, BUT, I want the exact same thickness of the foam sole from the toe all the way back to the heel. Don't know if you ever get requests for "zero drop" boots/shoes. This would require grinding off a bit more of the original wedge sole in the heel area. Could you, Would you do that????

Have a pair of Asolo Fugitive Gtx. The bottom sole is in good condition but the cushion part is breaking/crumbling apart. Anyway to reuse the bottom sole/tread and just replace what's the problem? I have yet to find someone who has the stock sole, so I would like to keep it since its good.

    • @CobblersPlus

Yes it’s a large number of factory soles out there but a hand full that you’d good rubber soles like Vibram don’t tend to have that problem

Side note...i had a pair of new never used sears diehard work shoes about 20 yrs old...stored in closet...the soles totally degraded sitting in closet..i wore recently and the soles just crumbled to nothing in 2 hrs....why is that?...

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Those soles had dry rot kick in. Happens with a number of rubber soles that aren’t being used.
The structure of the rubber hardens and when it finally bends the just fall apart. The military boots your talking about tend to do the same thing and usually cost isn’t worth recrafting
