Hardly the story, as you well know. Cobblers have just been doin’ their thing, getting on with the trade, making customers happy with a new lease on life for their well worn footwear. Then YT struts along and suddenly we’ve windows into *ALL* the expert tradesmen & -women and their worlds. And it is awesomely f&*kin cool. We *LOVE IT*.

Wow! I'm so glad that I found your video. I live in Louisiana, USA.
When I was a child, I had a metal shoeshine box with brushes and products inside. I loved cleaning, treating and shining my dad's shoes and my own. That was more than 60 years ago! I'm now in my 70s.
Even as an adult, I get satisfaction from caring for my shoes.
Today, I was looking for videos to help me figure out which products to buy... and step-by-step instructions on how to re-glue Vibram soles on two pairs of my shoes. They had already been resoled... but it didn't hold.
I was happy to see your use of 'cork filler' (I'll need something like that to fill an area on each sole where there's a company 'symbol' that's deepset). I appreciate learning about ALL of the techniques and products that you used, from start to finish. So, thanks to you, I've finally gotten some professional 'instruction' on caring for leather shoes... after all these years!
Thank you so much for posting this video.

It's probably very much down to cost of doing this. New Earthkeepers cost £155 retail, you can get them discounted for £108 from Timberland. I would wager that replacing the soles alone will cost you very close to or equal in parts and labor than the £108, not talking about leather midsoles. The soles alone cost you anywhere from £15 to £20 per sole without the markup. Then the craftsman has to pay himself a decent wage and account for the running costs of the shop itself. I might be wrong, but looking at the amount of time spent on this pair of boots I cannot see this being very much cheaper than £100. I mean, you make a Rolls Royce out of a Vauxhall, but do you need it? That's each individual's question to respond to. I came here because with the snow out I just discovered a crack in the sole of my Timberlands, but they cost me £70 from Timberland. Not sure if I want to spend that much to re-sole them if I can get a pair of new boots with the sales.

Damn. This video reminded me of my old secondary school brogues from the 80s. Could never wait to wear them down so as to have a new leather sole and heel with a metal tip that made a clink on the concrete pavements. I can smell the new buffed leather just by watching this video. Cheers man.

Wish you were in New York so I could take a lot of my shoes for a restoration. I really appreciate and respect this craft and mostly the attention you give to the shoe is rare to see around here. So, if you can't open shop here then train very well an apprentice and tell them to open shop here 🤣🤣

Ran acrss your channel recovering from an injury. My Dad was a Letter Carrier and one of his deliveries was a cobbler. They also ended up bowling together in a league, so I also got to know him quite well. One night at the bowling alley, Mom and Dad were talking about needing someone to watch me for a couple hours the next afternoon. He immediately volunteered! I spent a wongerful afternoon asking questions, learning things that helped me with school papers for years to come! You brought back mang happy memories! Thank you!

A brilliant man with a good sense of humor at 12:18. " Because if it wonky, he will end up walking in circles!" The caliber of a man is in doing something that he can guarantee to work and this gentleman's manipulations and processes, measures him in an absolute manner. Most people in modern life never do anything that needs to be guaranteed and they give vociferous services without ever making a tangible product ensuring that they are never measured absolutely but relatively, to other people around them, which is no measure at all!! Congratulations on the workmanship and the sense of humor.

this is cool, I've been a lineman here in the States for 40 years... I've had good work boots and, bad ones same with my hiking shoes but, always having to roll the dice and buy new ones... if I had a guy like you near by I would have MUCH happier feet. My son plays baseball. I can imagine the magic you can do with a baseball glove.

The cost of a new pair of Tims is low. If you had a pair Frye boots or another better boot it would be worth a repair. I had a similar tim boot and it was like 100$ to do all this vs 200 for new, I felt it wasn’t worth it. Took my 200 and found a pair fryes on sale from 450 to 260 and got those....
