Nathan Ankersen, great grandson and grandson of Gulf coast boat builders and great grandson of a French merchant marine who was the ships carpenter. I know you have made them proud.
Nathan’s grandfather was a professional ship builder and a perfectionist. Unfortunately he passed away the year Nathan was born so all that knowledge was lost. But oddly enough Nathan managed to pick up a few skills of his own.
It really is an incredibly versatile boat. Part time submarine. On its maiden voyage it nearly escaped. I hear his nephew has really strong arms. These stories only add to the legend! Southern Salt should come out fishing with us on a brothers trip and see firsthand the majesty of an Ankersen fishing trip.
I have the same hull with 25 Johnson. I fiberglassed a casting platform and repurposed an old aluminum step for my poling platform. Aluminum extension pole for the push pole. It’s an amazing rig. $2,100 total invested
I went through a similar process during Covid. I bought a 14’ hull & Customized from there. Took me about the same amount of time about six months. Coincidentally about the same cost as well.
My wife and buddies thought I was crazy because I sold my 23’ bay boat last year to build a 17’ mod-v Jon boat into a skiff. But I love the boat I built and it is way better in the marsh although I do miss going offshore
I'm about to build mine. I found an old 14 ft one and I'm going to start on it this weekend. I would like to see how you extended it because I wanna extend mine 3 more feet.
I loved the walkthrough, and the description of the build, but $5200 and about five months is not a deal at all for that boat. A labor of love, sure, and kudos to his skills. But for that money, you can get a trailered 16-18 foot boat ready to launch from even a semi motivated seller. Love your channel, please keep up the awesome videos.
@@tazmax72 Most places you look. I bought a 14’ Klamath, deep-vee hull with a brand new Honda 25 hp four stroke for $2500. The engine alone is worth almost $5000. I’m not knocking his work at all; I admire and respect it. In fact, he’s probably more satisfied with his work than just buying a boat. I know that I would be. I wish I had his skills.
If the transom isn't rotten wood inside the fiberglass. Mostly are already . All those old boats have rotten wood floors underneath the fiberglass. I think they replaced all that here somehow.
So what was the make of the boat in this video that he started out with. Can not understand what he said because it was said so quickly. Any help would be greatly appriciated
Nice job. I couldn't find a john boat during the covid hoax so i built my own with wood and foam. Its 12.5' x 4'. Stable, quiet and floats in 2". Lots of storage. 60 hrs from scratch. Love this thing.
I'll chose low budget form and function over big dollar boats all day, every day. I dig the color too. Great work, brutha!

Wow no mention at all of the brother who is a merchant mariner..
@@ianmankersenhe didn’t come out his brothers balls
Nice job, Nathan!
Sounds a lot like a great story for the TinyBoatNation crew!
This is for me. I always need a project and I want to have a nicer boat than a kayak one day so this sounds like the way for me! Big savings too!
Definitely, I’m looking forward to my build!
mom, HEYY MOM! LOOK I'M OH THE TVs!!!! Thanks for the feature Nate, let's start picking paint colors for your new ride.
@nathankersen4695 Do you have a build thread anywhere? Really interested in what all you did. Looks great!

I’ll see if I can get Nate to comment on that. I’ll be starting my build soon as well
The how to build video would be a great idea - I have a 18 foot deep V I can change in to a skiff boat like this.
🙌
Is there an in water video showing the skiff?
This guy should be able to make a killing down at the coast rebuilding these things!
No doubt!!
That would be an awesome video. Hope it happens.
🙌
I couldn't hear him when he was telling about the push pole, where did he say it came from? I want one or more

Let’s do it lol
What kind of boat did you start with?
I asked the same queation
Still don't know the brand.
Sweet boat! War Eagle!!
What kind of boat did it start out as?
Is 25HP strong enough for fishing the intracoastal waterway and/or flats for redfish for example.
I definitely think so but it depends on a ton of factors
Roll tide!!!

Takeway: Boating is not cheap, folks.
What do you mean what he was actually saying?
Even a six year old understood him.
Thanks cool video of how poor people engineer things to work, never count the southern folks out nate keep casting and cooking.
Poor? Really? Like food stamps and govt housing poor?

Logic can't hear; the goofy dude never said 100. He said hundreds. That's way worse. Lol
That's a nasty "stain" on your seat cushion! Did you have an accident on the water? LOL GO DAWGS!!!
