6/10 very slow is a bit of an understatement
So Qimir was a Jedi(could be lying to create empathy with Osha) he must have done something to slow his aging i know the force does naturally grant extended lifespan but to keep your appearance youthful (dude looks around 30yrs your a padawan roughly in our teens Qimir said a long long time ago he was a Jedi) he must have learnt something.
Yeah i felt Sol took a bit too long to realise Mae had switched.

All the puzzle pieces fell into place for me in this episode. I do think it has taken too long to get here, though. 45 minutes feels about right for this show, or it could have been 16 chapters, like Mando.
I think Osha’s going to witness Sol’s confession to Mae via the force with that helmet on. It’s going to link her to her sister. Great shout on the whip scar. I haven’t trusted Vernestra from the get go on this show.

And I think the importance of the helmet to the sisters (and their separation) was foreshadowed in the flashback episode, with the burning door that resembled Vader's helmet.
I still suspect Venestra is a Sith, masquerading as a Jedi. An earlier Doogu.
I have a theory about this...and I am posting this in several places. Here's what I am thinking...Qimir mentions that he was a Jedi a very long time ago, and that had to lose everything in order to be free. I think Qimir is Imir Cantaros...Vernestra's Padawan who she thought died in an explosion at the Starlight Beacon. Imir is a Genetian. He had a strong "Force Empathy" that he had a very hard time controlling. I am guessing that is why Qimir wears the helmet. It not only protects him, it keeps him from being influenced by random emotions. It gives him control. I am guessing at this point Vernestra has felt Qimir's presence and desperately wants to cover up the fact that she left her leaning towards the Dark Side Padawan for dead. (Vernestra has that whip...hense his scar). He is eliminating her whole team. I am now wondering if Qimir sensed the twins, wanted a pupil, and set the stones on fire on Brendok to break the connection between the girls and their mothers, and to build the rage and loss in the girls so one or both would turn to the Dark Side. I am not convinced that Qimir has a Master other than Vernestra. I am thinking Qimir is a Fallen Jedi, but not necessarily a Sith. I think HE wants to be the Master. I don't know what planet Osha and Qimir are on for this episode...but it looks like their are veins of Cortosis in the cave they are in. That might be blocking anyone "feeling" him in the force. How the Jedi High Council are not feeling this...I don't know. My only thought is that Khofar is in the Outer Rim, far from Coruscant. Also, when Vernestra was talking to the Senator, it sounded like there was an ambitious Senator grasping for power who is no friend to the Jedi...a serious distraction for them perhaps. I like the Knights of Ren idea...they were power of many for sure! Or maybe the precursor of those knights. I am also wondering if Sol is a Genetian. He seems to have that Force Empathy too. It is interesting to me that Vernestra's blade is purple...it's the combo of blue and red. That might be a clue.

Why not, after all Disney' Lucasfilm loves to retcon. After all, Imir Cantaros is ultimately reunited with Vernestra Rwoh in, I believe, "The High Republic: Defy the Storm"
Interesting how Qimir wore dark clothes hinting at darkness as he was going to the water. But after he emerged, he switched to a lighter outfit to represent a light side. Similar to Luke in return of the Jedi.
The shirt flap! I feel like that was just a costume coincidence that Lucas decided to make up. But that's alot of lucas star wars, recontextualizing things that meant nothing when filmed
For the budget, Episode 8 better be a movie. I still don't think he's a sith, idc what she may have said or he says. I think he's Ren. But he could be an apprentice too. He's not a master. Finestra could be though - that'd be an awesome twist and she ends up over all of them now passed into the force.
Couldn't agree more. Despite having twice the budget of Ahsoka, this show is still a 'movie-length' short in runtime. Ahsoka has over 6 hours of content, while Acolyte has only 3.5 hours so far. Even crazier that ahsoka was built on pre-established characters, while this show had to start from scratch.
I thought he was Ren too but I don’t think so anymore. I think he is darth Venamis, tenebrous’ first apprentice. I think Venestra was his master and tried to kill him bc she sensed darkness in him, hence the kylo theme in episode 5. She probably fears that this is Qimir and has tons of guilt, which explains why she’s seemed a little suspicious the whole series.

I was very glad they took their time, this episode didn't need gratuitous action, the story moved along quite well. We see Osha's first steps towards the dark, and we don't see them in the cliched greed and hatred, but in vulnerability. Quimir shades his armour, literally, makes himself vulnerable and thus reaches her. He really stole the episode, and I am rooting for him. I love that they went beyond the usual fall to the dark side, which sometimes was depicted a bit childish in legends material. Quimir is interested in the power of two, which means the showdown will have something towards that. I am still not sure whether it is Osha or Sol who is to fall in the end, honestly. When Osha dons the helmet in the end and hears just her own breath, I don't see Vader, I see Osha being confronted with herself, alone, without distractions, facing herself, facing her darkness.
honestly, with these episode lengths - it would've been better if they had released 3,4 and 5,6 together and let 7 and 8 be separate weeks, they'd have dodged much of that cringy 'Thread' backlash and prolly the viewership drop as well.
My only problem is how they broke up the show into these short episodes. I think it will be better once we can sit in an afternoon and watch it all at once.

I really liked the slower pace of this episode after last week. I also thought the planet maybe is Ach‘To but Bal'demnic seems really plausible. I also thought the bathing scene was a little weird….until Qimir came back out. I mean…who am I to complain? 😅🙊😂
I'm hoping this one is setting up the next ones so they make sense. Personally I enjoyed this slower paced one.
I definitely picked up on the romantic rapport between Osha and QuiMir. I do agree that the pacing in the first half dragged, though their conversations and dynamic were fascinating. I want to know and see more! I also think we werr supposed to feel a bit uncomfortable with those scenes. QuiMir is rapidly becoming one of my favorite charactters in this show behind Sol. He’s so compelling mosyly because a lot of what he says is right from a certain point of view. I guessed he was maybe an early padawan of Sol, but Vernestra makes sense too. But aside from that scene when Sol gets emotional in the engine room and the conversations at the end, his storyline with May felt kinda pointless. I also fouund the focus on Vernestra interesting and the fact that the other jedi thinks it was Sol who did this. Foreshadowing maybe? Or a hint to his past? That’s my theory that he was once a dark side user. But I have a theory about what happened on Brendock. Full disclosure this is not my original theory, rather someone else’s that I think holds merrit that I put my own twist on. In short Sol killed one or both of the twins’ mothers because he learned that they used dark side/sith techniques to create the twins andfelt threatened. Maybe he and the others wanted to prevent them from doing the same in the future or were afraid of the twins’ potential if they were kept with the witches. Alternatively he or one of the others saw signs of sith involvement and wanted to eliminage the threat by killing the witches. Maybe QuiMir or his master was there? Also side note, not mad at the amount of him shirtless we got this episode. He’s kinda hot. Even if it was a bit uncomforyable. I definitely think Osha will join him now ansd maybe kill Sol? I hope not but it’s possible.

I really enjoyed this one a lot. I didn't mind the slower pacing because the performances and the writing were good! One of my criticisms of other shows like Ahsoka (and the prequels) has been the quality of the dialogue. In Acolyte I feel like we're getting some really well written, and well acted, dialogue.

@@tuckerbamberg7647 The acting is great. The writing from a story perspective is good. The writing from a dialogue perspective is terrible, and there are definiely some problems with logic/plotholes. But on the latter two, has there ever been star wars that didn't fall into those issues? (Except Andor of course). From where I sit, it's people like you who look biased by the culture war back and forth, convincing yourself that the show is much worse than it is so you don't have to admit that your preconceived notions about the show and Leslie Headland were wrong.
Could Leslye and KK be setting up some of the more outspoken members of the fandom?
Perhaps they're laying traps for criticism, in certain elements of the show, only to later throw pie in the critics' faces when things are "explained" and maybe not breaking lore as much as we may think?? Lore has already been assaulted as is!
Of course, nothing can justify criticism of the story line, characterization, dialogue, etc.
I thought this was a solid episode. Felt like star wars to me. I think too many people are getting outraged by potential lore being broken but we haven't even seen how the show ends. Also, SW needs more dark side content.
If you think that felt like Star Wars, you have no idea what Star Wars actually is.
At this point I’m convinced they aren’t going to break lore at all. Let’s be clear: no one except for Sol, Mae and Osha, know what has really happened on Khofar. Sol tried to contact the council, but the transmission, at least the important parts of it: didn’t go through. Everyone else right now is in the dark. There are rumours and speculations, but with Sol having left, those can’t be confirmed by anyone. As much as I love Sol’s character, I have to say with regret that I don’t think he will live at the end. So…unless something really drastic happens, I think there won’t be any clear indications that there are any Sith around before the events in Episode 1.
Solid episode, far better than the first four - but the plot content is still strong - I think the story structure is being drawn out too long though. I think Sol is a hidden Dark Side master - his actions in the ship are highly suspect as was his fighting with Smilo Ren - 😊😊

That was legends lore, and like it or not that hasn’t been official canon anymore. Also why are you calling people names? Just because they have a different opinion then you? I’m getting so sick and tired of the disrespect people are showing to others simply because they have a different point of view. And that happens on both sides. We don’t all have to like or dislike the same things. But I don’t resort to name calling just to prove a point. In the old days fans could simply have a discussion and listen to each other. These days people only resort to calling names or disrespecting others. I have been a fan of Star Wars for over 35 years, and it really makes me sad what is happening to the fandom these days.
As I said before Venestra is Qimir's master and now we see her whip has scared his back. During training or a fall out? Ther is of the chance that Venestra was Qimir's Jadi master and that she discovered he was trying dark ways of the force. And the Venestra tried to kill him but failed. But I believe in the first one.
It can be a thing that a female sith could infiltrate the Jedi order not just the senate as Palpatine did.

If Vernestra was Qimir's jedi master, then in terms of canon, the jedi counsel will just see him as a former padawan who fell out with the jedi order and fell to the dark side, and not really a sith per se.
Right now, from the perspective of someone that hasn't read the books or comics, someone like Ki-Adi Mundi just looks like a character who prefers to stick his head in the sand and not acknowledge what is plain to see.
I hope they do more with Qimir. He's a very strong character and Manny Jacinto has been brilliant.
It seems quite a bit off that this dude would just be tossed aside or abandoned by a sith master, who would not want to leave such a loose end dangling that could reveal them. If this were Tenebrous or Plagueis, they would have murdered this little guy to cut off any loose end that might lead back to them and put the ultimate plan at risk.

@@05goode I doubt it, Plagiues and Tenebrous were too smart, Qimir would have been killed for revealing the Sith without a second thought. Darth Bane would have done the same thing. Qimir committed the number one deadly sin according to the Rule of Two Sith, that does not go unpunished.

@@passiondono4692 both could be true, how else would he know to combat a Jedi with Cortosis? Or any other dark side aspects he has exhibited? Sith commonly look to fallen Jedi to meet certain ends, but they wouldn't leave one alive when they've finished serving their purpose. Maybe that is yet to come.
Maybe Qimri is Vanesta's first apprentice. He had issues turning to the dark side, even fighting Vanestra on one occasion before he was presumed dead in an explosion
I’m pretty sure there’s a relationship between Cortosis mining and Brendok. Look at their city; what’s up with that bizarrely-shaped pit? That large vat suspended in the middle? That looks like where you’d process ore. And if cortosis can block mind-reading, then wouldn’t a former cortosis mine be a perfect place for force witches to hide from the Jedi? The mystery seems to be partially based around what we don’t know about Brendok, and I think there’s a link there. I’m not confident that the lord from the Plagueis novel will be canonized. But if it is, Tenebrous and Plagueis were in cortosis mining business.
Feels like there’s something there
I used to watch LOST (2004-2010), so I’m used to NOT getting answers right away. I’m used to waiting another week after the episode ends in a cliffhanger or without answers but leaves more questions. They will dangle the carrot until the final few episodes. So when this episode ended abruptly, I wasn’t shocked. A tease as usual. No answers again. Is it frustrating? Hell yeah. Am I surprised by it? Nope.
The two big reveals are…
- Qimir/Smilo Ren/The Stranger was a former Jedi
- Sol might have been Qimir’s master with Qimir explaining his back scars to Osha
This might be too dark for Star Wars, but I wondered if Sol had an inappropriate relationship with Osha? Makes me wonder if they were in love? Make the Jedis into the Catholic church and Sol is a priest having an inappropriate relationship with his pupil. Qimir even pointed out how Osha asked about Sol first before Mae.
Sol did get pretty dark at the end. But once I saw him ready to talk to Mae, I knew right away they were going to cut the scene. But hey, Conehead Jedi didn’t exactly ruin canon. Yay! Like Star Wars has never been filled with plot holes? Sol never said Sith to them. Then the static with communications. Then Sol hauled ass out of there before Vernestra arrived. Sol is more Moon than Sun. More Luna than Sol. His darkness is coming out.
Nothing really happened in this episode as usual. The Bazil and Pip humor was not funny at all. Worse than Ep. 5. I did like the scenery where Qimir and Osha were at. Looks like Skellig Michael again where they shot Luke’s scenes on Ahch-To in TLJ. I guess Osha wasn’t impressed by Qimir’s penis size. 🤣 I think nobody was impressed by Aemond Targaryen’s penis size either. Manny was probably wearing shorts but it’s being implied he’s naked. I guess no sexual tension between them.
Such a frustrating series to watch. The only thing good about it was Smilo Ren killing Jedis in Ep. 5 and that’s it. Nothing else is that interesting and they keep beating around the bush with these mysteries. But at least Ep. 7 will be the flashback episode. A 6/10 episode. Get ready for more review bombs.

Even The Boys’ recent episode with flying sheep which looked stupid was better than this episode from The Acolyte. Wait for House of the Dragon’s Season 2 Episode 4 this Sunday. It’s going to be the best episode that series has ever done. Perhaps even better by Ep. 8. Should be Team 🖤 favorite HOT D episode ever.
When I saw Ep. 6 was 36 minutes or 4 more minutes than Ep. 4 and 5, I thought maybe they would answer the big question. Nope. Another 36 minutes wasted on absolutely nothing. I guess Tyrone Magnus is right. Episode 5 was a FLUKE. Back to the crappy norm like Ep. 1-4 are. I got more fun out of a 3-hour movie in Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 than I did with this episode.
Manny’s character is the most interesting in this show and he’s actually the one who happens to be the most informative. Qimir is the one explaining things to the audience. He’s the fan favorite more viewers are interested to know more about. But the series keeps focusing on the twins who are as interesting as the three Rs: Rey, Rose, and Reva. R2 is more interesting than any of these females.
This was a nothingburger episode. True, some people pointed out the best character development for The Stranger and Osha. That was probably the most interesting part of this episode was Qimir and Osha’s interactions. But nothing to move the plot. The parts with Sol and Mae were not as interesting and then the huge tease which revealed nothing at the end. Ep. 6 is really a teaser trailer for Ep. 7.
I liked the pacing and juxtaposition between Osha and Mei and their situations after Episode 5. This murder mystery just gets more and more interesting. The cliff hanger with Osha starting to put on the helmet was brilliant.
I liked this episode but I feel it could and should have been longer (another issue with the SW current movie-stretched-over-8-episodes format). Love the reveal that Qimir was once a Jedi and the implication Vernestra was his master, although since Qimir is a Sith there's an element of unreliavble narrator. I'm also a bit iffy on the shows portrayal of Vernestra, although she's now in line for potential Sith.
I loved this episode! The slow pace surprised me too, but I thought it worked incredibly well.

I don’t believe we’ll see Plageus. He’s likely for different projects. I like the concept Qimir may have been trained by Vernestra. Either Vernestra is Qimir’s Sith master, or was his master under Jedi training.
The scar on the back of Qimir is definitely from Vernestra.
It is possible Qimir may have done or not done something on Brendock 16 years prior, causing Vernestra to saber-whip him.
One thing about these types of mysteries-especially since many now are following the very successful Wednesday format-is audiences will have to play back episodes to put the pieces together; and appreciate that process.

I feel like a lot of people don't know this, but two writers from House of the Dragon wrote this show, which is crazy to me. Dialogue is one the best parts of Hotd and worst parts of this show, I don't understand what happened?
Maybe they wrote it initially but directors and editing played a big role. This show always feels like an initial draft. The episode was decent and I'll watch the acolyte to the end but can't imagine thinking about it again.

Well, you're misrepresenting the facts. Two writers from the writers' room of HotD were in the writers' room for The Acolyte. That's very far from what is claimed. Even if you are named as the writer of a particular episode, you may have written very few of the lines in it; you've just taken responsibility for the final assembly and working script. And if the showrunner bends to the will of the studio and cuts episodes in two, the identification of a particular writer or writers is little more than a legal technicality. You need a great writer to bring the best out of a writers' room, and HotD has Condal and Martin. The Acolyte has been built around Headland and Stenberg and, to be fair to them, no one should ever be put in that position. That said, with the exception of Andor, Star Wars has never been known for quality dialogue; in fact, it's notorious for being poor. (Where else could R2D2 be the most eloquent character?) That is, in part, because of the genre: space fairy tale. And myth: characters can make the odd great speech or flashy line, but the focus isn't the relationship between characters, which is where great dialogue is produced. In contrast, HotD is grounded in chronicle histories, mirror for princes and history plays: the language of Malory, Shakespeare, Milton. You have a lot of great dialogue from ASOIAF books to use as a model. And Headland's expertise is writing comedy and modern relationships. She's writing in a different language, she has no consistency in the way she edits the scripts, hence the tone is all over the place and characters' motivations seem to change on a whim. Her use of allusions to elements from pop culture, inserting quotes from films here and there is clearly her aesthetic choice, but it works against the world of Star Wars by taking you out of what should be an immersive environment. There are clearly studio interventions and imposed story changes, and dialogue cannot withstand that pressure (indeed, it's more likely to be used to cover over the cracks). HOtD was storyboarded to within an inch of its life, and there are precious few signs of rewrites. Please do not blame writers in the writers' room (remember Headland specifically said she wanted one who hadn't seen any Star Wars). It's the failure of the showrunner and the person who appointed them.
I just wish the dialogue was more entertaining. A lot of episodes in Game of Thrones just dialogue, but it was so good. You didn’t care. Concept of this series is wonderful. The execution however, is very lacking.

i think moving forward I am no longer going to watch these shows until all the episodes are out. There really doesn't seem to be any reason not to. This episode was SOOOOO slow, I was actually pissed off. They stretched 5 mins worth of dialog into a 35 mins episode, and I wanted to scream 😂😂
Theres a “romantic” element everywhere, because that’s all some people think of and the core of their own identity. Everything about them and whatever they connect has to touch that, because they’ve defined themselves by it.
I LOVE IT! At 61, OG fan for decades - This show is sneaking up on us - it's really Star Wars'ee - It feels like SW - I love the pacing. What you didn't mention was the show showing us the dead bodies. That really sucked. Tell me your thoughts on when Jedi died and had the same impact? OWK in a New Hope and QG in Eps 1 - Order 66 - Those were all EPIC moments - but this show The Death Scene last week HURT my heart. Then they showed us their bodies to bring that pain back. It sucked - but great storytelling.
It's not a perfect show, name a perfect live-action SW piece? (Well 'Andor' maybe) LOL, that's to get folks stirred up. Acolite - super cool, super fun!
I think the mask is Lord Momin. The mask is pretty much canon through the comics and writings and is a very cool story device. It says under the listing all Momin stuff was suppressed by the Jedi so this could well be what they are doing. But now Osha has done put on Lord Momin's mask which can show her what happened which is how I suspect we see the next episode. The mask and Sol telling the same story.
Qimir now feels very much Darth Maul coded. Once an apprentice of a sith lord, Tenebris, who was discarded. He does say he use to be a jedi, "a long time ago, but people guessing Vernestra is a secret sith r wrong. I do believe the whip marks on qimirs back r from Vernestra but only at a battle where she found out qimir was a dark side apprentice.
As for Sol, next episode will show us that in the past the witches possessed kalnaca to unalive the other jedi. Out of pure anger and desperation, Sol turned to the dark side and used lightening force to take out all the withches at one time. The witches unalive released kalnaca from their control.
I believe all the characters in this story will die by end. Including Qimir, Sol, mae, and osha. Vernestra will cover it all up. 😎
The pace certainly has picked up and having Qimir being revealed. I do agree that there is more to be revealed in flashback but i think it will be told from duel(ling) perspectives leading to part 8.
I did find the bathing scene odd and symbolic. Symbolic that like in TESB, we find out that Vader is a person behind the mask with scars. Qimir also someone who has concealed himself and has scars. The oddness stems from the bathing scene that it was almost like a crude seduction and the odd placement of a scene (like Yord practicing forms without shirt) just so random.
I'm mostly enjoying it, but as with Mandalorian season 3 , I find myself wondering if Disney doesn't know how to effectively plot and structure a whole season effectively; some episodes feel very rushed and ideas don't have enough time to simmer, and other episodes feel like filler and wasted. I don't mean to be negative, there's been some great moments and I really love these characters. Hope there's a season 2.
I can say this about a number of SW TV projects and thats me agreeing with you. The times that they've been effective with plot and structure are far and few inbetween.

@@loosegoose2466 for some of these shows, binging would fix their pacing issues for sure. Like Andor, that was poorly written, either binge the entire thing or release episodes as they were written (ie 1-3, 4-6, 7-8, etc).
And I'll be honest, I was a heavy critic of Mando S1 but enjoyed Mando S2. Mando S1 was just same thing every week on a different backwater planet. "Baby Yoda" is what sold that show to the masses.
And for this show... A binge would be a big boost but they also have this filler episodes... And a filler is a filler even with bingeing 😕

A lot of people are assuming Qimir is telling the truth. He is not an honest person. I doubt he's telling Osha the full truth. I'm guessing he was a Jedi briefly, but the scar came from his Sith master, not a Jedi (unless he was, like, in the act of murdering someone and a Jedi, Vernestra maybe, had to subdue him).
To be fair to Vernestra, she had reason to distrust the Senate, as there were traitors during the fight with the Nihil. She used to have hyperspace visions, which sometimes made her uncomfortable.
I think scar came from Vernestra the scar looks like its from a whip. I think he is telling truth from a certain point of view. :)
@@naroe2001 Yes. Part of why he's shaping up to be a great baddie is that he is honorable in his own eyes, his critiques and motivations have a lot of truth to them, etc. That's always more compelling than a bad guy who's just evil for evil's sake.
I enjoyed it. We needed this character development, especially for Osha and Mae
The nude scene was senseless. It could have been differently....it looks like it was just stuck in there.
I actually really like the acolyte. I am a huge fan of the original trilogy and the prequels and mandoverse. I'm curious what the series would look like if you completely take out episode 3 or maybe push it to the end like before the next flashback
Considering the short run times, and the twists and turns they are trying to throw at us, I am more convinced than ever, after episode 6, that this would've been better as a two and a half hour movie. I still think the premise is pretty good. The execution is lacking, though. Or maybe a 6 episode season with longer episodes?
I think that because Quimir already sowed the seeds of doubt within Osha, him saying all the right things to her piqued her curiosity.
They lost all momentum that the last episode created.
There needs to be a litmus test of things that every series and episode should check off before someone’s even given the greenlight to make a new series

Actually very good episode. While Qimir explains dark side,we see in paralel Sol having this dark side,its like Qimir explaining that. Also,you leave one line unheard,you dont understand meaning. The scar of Qimir made obviously by whip, and Vernestra shows the whip. Sol will tell Mae all true ,Osha will see this true through the Force,by cortosis,as was said by Qimir ,the meaning of cortosis on younglings ,is they letf face to face with Force. So thats how Osha will see truth while mae learns it.

How the hell did they get to another planet before sol even took off
Just because they were shown that way in the episode doesn’t mean that is actually the order that the events happened in. Obviously everything that we saw with Sol and Mae happened before what we saw with Osha and Qimir, but the episode cut between the two separate stories so that it would be more interesting.
This series gets better with each passing episode. Very impressed so far.

Notice that Qimir did not answer Osha when she asked who gave him the scar on his back… Qimir let Osha believe she could answer her own question…rightly or wrongly. A deception’s goal is to not interfere when your acolyte wishes to wrongly presume to benefit your cause.
I agree Vern isnt the same character as in the books...sad that they feel they have to change the High Republic characters.

This episode completed it's task to further the story. I definitely enjoyed this one.
Mae is very odd. I can't put my finger on what she's trying to do. Sol I think knew it was Mae and is up to somthing. Wether it's some jedi force lesson or a deeper darker thing is interesting. I fully believe Sol was just lying and probing Mae to get a handle on her before heading back. And why is Mae got the knife out one minute, and then trying to contact the Jedi to ask for help? It's either something else is going on or we have inconsistant writing. I hope it's the former because I'd really like that.
Despite all the hate, I'm enjoying this show. It provides a different view of the galaxy far, far away. I'm a fan since 1977 at the age of 6. Everyone says its not Star Wars, I say it is! Just from a different point of view. Much like many of the truths we cling to...it depends entirely on our own point of view. A lot are going into it with dislike and hate and expect it to be badly done, thus far, they're not wrong in their minds. You see what you expect to see.
I do like the concept of the story and how it keeps you thinking. I just can’t stand the way it has been executed. The acting (other than Saul & Smylo) has been atrocious. The sets and directing looks cheap. The script is ludicrous. The music is weird. The episode run times are too short and all the diversity stuff just makes it cringy. Other than that it could have been a good show.
It’s weird how many people commenting on various channels vids start with a variation of I’m a fan since 1977. They always seem to be trying to defend the show and make others think if an old school fan likes it it must be good. No one is buying this crap.

I've actually been quite into this show, apart from episode 3. The thing which gave me 2nd hand embarrassment was the way they were throwing the thread around like an imaginary ball, like an amateur acting class warm up. It just seemed like people playing make pretend instead of being believable people in this universe. Everything else has been OK to pretty good. 🤷♂
The whip-saber is stupid.
I think the last 2 episodes have been vast improvements over the first 4. I like the underlying tone that the Jedi have some shady secrets, I like that it is different from what we’ve seen before.
I’m digging it, if Disney fell off the earth right now and I wasn’t able to watch the rest I wouldn’t be heart broken a bit. But I am liking that Disney finally put something on plus anyway. I did downgrade my subscription to the very least because that’s what they’re worth though.
I thought this episode was pretty good. I liked the long segments at the beginning where there was no talking, I love when you need to watch the actors' facial expressions to gauge what they're thinking--not enough media does that nowadays, they always seem to explain everything too much.
The writing was well done, too. The seduction of Osha to the dark side by Qimir was subtle and well done, and Mae's motives are pretty complex now, as are Sol's. This show is getting interesting.
I think there is quite a bit of merit to Vernestra being the sith lord. There is the whip scar on Qimir's back, the constant need to cover things up, etc. but when they get to Khofar and her padawan(?) says the umbermoths must have killed the Jedi, she seems to be considering this as a feasible way to cover things up. Furthermore, when she pulls out her light whip for a moment I thought she was going to kill the guy to eliminate any witnesses.

Sol has also proven to be the dirtiest Jedi Knight in Star Wars history, including a part that he used a stun beam on Mae to knock her out.
Using laser weapons, blasters, and stun guns are illegal under Jedi rules, so Sol definitely broke the Jedi law there.
As for that mystery Sith Lord, don't be surprised that its Darth Plagueis, the Sith Master of Sheev "Darth Sidious" Palpatine.
They all have to die eventually but not necessarily in this series. If a coverup hides the existence of the Sith from the Jedi council, then there is still 100 years between the Acolyte and Episode 1. That leaves plenty of time for any surviving characters to die during other adventures or of old age before Episode 1.
Exactly, Vernestra is probably not going to die but Mirialans do not naturally live that long as she has anyway. She will be long dead before the prequels.

I agree. This episode was painfully slow. I wonder if the helmet has the ghost of the Sith that Vader posses on Mustafa. Once Osha put on the helmet, I expected it to talk to her and coax her to the dark side. Qimir is still very suspicious to me. The Qimir we see is very much like Anakin being present in Vader. But the dark side is stronger and overcomes him. We see “The Stranger” when Qimir’s “good” side takes a back seat. He’s not fully dark, but is getting there. Once he full embraces the darkness we will only see “The Stranger,’ and no more Qimir. I think Sol knew it was Mae all along. While he called her Osha, I think he wanted to let her know he was not knowing she was Mae. I wonder if Venestra is the sith? Remember, Palpatine had two definite sides. HIs dark side was well hidden throughout the first 2 pre-quels.

The Fenstra angle you mentioned is what i was thinking too. She’s getting more sneaky-looking with each new episode. But really it was just one long exposition dump.
One, if not the , biggest problem with Disney Star Wars is that it's not Science Fiction anymore. It's 'murder mystery',
'drama' and even 'teen soap', but there is almost a complete lack of any science fiction. This is also the reason why boys and men (some girls too) don't buy the merch anymore.
We didn't even see anyone piloting the spacecraft the Jedi used. It was just a film set. In the originals the spacecraft were famous in their own right, kids were obsessed with them. Now Disney thinks that they must include some sort of
"cute" character to use as merch. Like BB8 or Grogu, or those really badly realised things on the beach in the episode. They already look like toys. But 'cute' wasn't the reason Star Wars sold more merch than any other franchise and nowadays it stays on the shelf because of it.

I think the whole problem with acolyte is how its been hacked up for the episode lengths, which make it terribly scattered narativily. If it was set in 2hrly chunks then the story would make sense. Or shot as a movie
Qimir says he is very old. So he may have the ability to transfer his essence into others through the force and final goal is to transfer himself into a force dyad which might, tip the scale.
Darth Gaen is Darth Tenebrous Master, a female with essence transfer, the cortosis cave is the cave Tenebrous will eventually die in .... He never was able to kill her and the Maxichlorians were to hack her abilities

Did the books paint Venestra as the kind of person who would keep secrets and/or lie?
I initially thought it was Ahch-To, but once they called it unknown planet, that would be really weird. The on screen name of the planet is for the viewers benefit rather than the characters within the show. We already know about Ahch-To so to say it’s an unknown planet would just be a lie to the audience. It would make more sense just to not name the planet on screen.
I just figured out why there is so much extra hate for this show... it becomes available in the evenings, when the primary SW audience is coming down from their time-release meds, so they can't handle the pacing and cliffhangers well. 😂
My last thought, Qimir gets both of the twins in the end.

a lot of time has gone by since Venestra was depicted in print. Clearly a lot has happened to her. It's a story that hasn't been told yet. It's not bad writing, it's a seed for future story telling. Also remember, she was a wayseeker and struggled with the dark side. And yet, she's now in the Order as a Master on the Council. Those facts foreshadow future story telling.
Maybe Qimir and Osha have dark side sex and create palpatine, someone had to have given birth to the emperor at some point. And with the timeline it would fit i think im not a huge star wars fan
After an action packed episode I dont mind the slower pacing and I understand the setup theyre going for here (swaying both Osha and Mae closer towards the centre). I dont expect a jedi master to be the secret sith, especially since she appears to not have been offworld for too much. It makes sense that Qimir might have been deemed a failure (he was almost defeated by a padawan) and discarded by his sith master (probably Tenebrous) and seeking an acolyte in Mae/Osha to overthrow him and take his place.
The episode was much like I predicted. Set up Osha as Qimir's Acolyte and set up Mae as Sol's Padawan. Both Sol and Qimir about to tell us what happened on Brendock, but not saying anything and leaving it up to the flashback episode to tell that story. It was a little frustrating how they would allow Sol to get ready to tell the story then he would get distracted by something like the lights coming on so he would lose his train of thought and walk away lol... I think they wanted to leave the episode on suspense, but I can't say that at that time I cared anymore... I'll tell you what happened, no I won't, maybe I'll tell, eventually... eh, who cares? They also link in Venestra Roh and I agree make her look suspicious, but not sure if this will be a fake out. Overall, I felt like this episode was filler... we could have effectively moved the plot along in about 5 minutes lol
The interview with Headland seemed nice, but can now be seen as pre emptive damage control. For instance, it is clear that Master Jedi Sol got parent trapped by Mae, for quite some time on the ship, until Basil told him. Thats why Headland spoilered the shit last week, telling Sol knew from the beginning. She already knew that that scene was going to be something that would cause backlash. A lie to try and cover up a major plot mistake.. niiiice
A few things that I believe could have helped this show:

Character development
Pacing of episodes
Having all episodes streamed at the same time (or at least half). I find myself advancing 10 seconds FF through many scenes just to get to the next important focus of the scene.
Sol is the most well-developed character, and much of that is through acting. Mandy Jacinto's acting is also great.
So much potential for this series wasted because of the reasons given above, especially for the budget. I always refer to Daredevil: 13-14 hour-long episodes. There was so much room for character development with slower pacing balanced with a build-up to great action sequences.
I think the story ends with qimir being disregarded as a sith and ki adi upheld that notion. And I also think that the sith have been meddling in Republic government and Jedi affairs even before palpatine. A path was paved for sidious to continue the work
Headland said in an interview that she was bothered as a kid by the idea that Anakin SKYWALKER was “seduced” by the Dark Side, and I think this played out in the interactions between Qimir and Osha. The Sith do know how to get to Force-users and corrupt them through their greatest weaknesses…

I think Qimir is Sol's age or even older, and is using the dark side to still look 30. That way his "you don't remember me" could be a reference to not only when he met Sol in the shop when he was acting and also a reference to their time as Jedi padawans together 40+ years ago.

Some of the osha and smilo ren scenes were really interesting. Makes me wish we could have gotten that a lot earlier in the season. Maybe if the episodes weren’t 30 mins
This was a decent episode still don't feel that excitement to see the next episode, it is more like I want to get the last two episodes over and done with. Still feel these episodes are just too short for such a hyped up series. I wish they were longer then what seems like 25 minute one shots
