Hey Chaps! Are you thinking about getting a Snapdragon laptop??
Also forgot to mention Xbox app won't run games locally (cloud streaming only)
Nah, getting a steam deck oled
Mayyyybe
Not with Windows Recall
gadget
Yes yes and yes. Already ordered one 🤟 Can't wait handheld based on Snapdragon X for its power efficiency and battery (need better gpu of course)
If you buy a snapdragon laptop at this time, you’re an early adopter, and you will face issues in games. I guess game developers got taken by surprise here, and the awareness needs to grow that there are now 3 cpu’s on which games need to be tested.
@GarrusVakarian-to2uh I don't think game devs care enough about M-series macs to release games on macOS but the others are valid
@@amitkulkarni3922 apple actually pay a lot of money to some AAA publisher to release the game on their store
@GarrusVakarian-to2uh You’re right, it’s mostly either the limitation of Adreno or an issue with their drivers. CPU concerns have been mostly been addressed by now. The quirkiness of the multitude of games, the graphics APIs like Vulcan, and their hardware need some time to resolve.. hopefully entirely! Intel didn’t have DX9 support in their ARC gpus and used emulation as that’s good enough.
It’s curious to see what’s actually native or approximated by Qualcomm.
@amitkulkarni3922 you are wrong, since even Windows split into 2 parts (ARM and x86), the unified platform at Apple is more attractive (all device use the same hardware and software, alias they can release their games not just on laptops but even on tablets and phone..) and even if you only count the sold M1-M3 Mac, the value is about equal with the total amount of active Steam users (120million), but the Steam store renevue was only 10billion meanwhile Apple store was at least 7x more (keep in mind that renevue is the cut off from the purchases, and if the 30% cut off 7x more than the sold amount of items are also 7x more which also 7x more earning for the developer.. and there are no 4 different GPU and 3 different CPU for this to make your work harder, it's all use the same..)
If you only count the M1-M4 devices (laptop and tablets) and the iPhone 15 as gaming capable device, that is still 400million gaming device, which is more like the Steam+Playstation store can reach together... so don't under estamite Apple in gaming, since they are sellig about yearl 200million capable gaming device, and they are also have the most profitable store on the planet (what also making hard to pirate the software, so not just Apple, but even the developer will get the payment for their work.. what do you think is that a bad options for the devs, if they get the money for their work instead of the insane amount of purating..?)
@GarrusVakarian-to2uh Good point! Apple had the gpus tailored for different hardware at least. Qualcomm must have gotten the drivers do most of the yoga and "translation" to get adreno to work.
"I'm an android GPU" - "Now go work in windows" - "Any design changes for me?" - "Nope" .... " q q "
Can't believe you tested Minecraft legends and not real Minecraft Java 😭
It will run really really fast because it’s native
Who plays this piece of garbage ? Minecraft java is the only real minecraft the rest are just garbage for kids that like anything @@infernonova1
ive tried running it with optifine giving me around 120fps

3:31 This isn't DOTA
I just about to write this kind of comment
🤣 maybe he want to say Moba games
Considering it's not a gaming laptop until it runs well, Qualcomm said it already has 1200 optimized games. It is the first generation, I am sure that in the future we will have many related news.
beta product
Who would have thought that Qualcomm would design a laptop chip
Actually they didn't, they bought Nuvia 😅
Nobody thought Intel would make GPUs either
They did it a few years ago already lol
This is their 4 attempt at it.
This is made by Nuvia (former Apple people)🎉
The test we were all waiting for, yet somehow most youtubers skipped
Because they're not intended for gaming.
@@bradavonsure but a lot of people will probably end up trying games on it
@@nicholaswicks3077 Emphasis on the word "trying". We all end up trying to test things once we get something new. It's truly sad if people buy these laptops intending to game on it.
They can tweak the translation layer all they want, but ARM has a very low ceiling for x86, especially with GPU operations. Their only way is ironically with more power.
Did you play around with the ARM Compatibility settings under Properties on the shortcut? Other reviewers who said this and that app doesn't work doesn't seem to know Windows has this which can fix ARM compatibility issues.
For me I'll wait for the second generation of the x elite and for the ecosystem to mature. It's a big problem when certain programs essential for your work crush or not run at all. For me getting a PC with an intel chip whilst I wait for arm to mature is a wiser decision.
I think I will daily drive an Arm windows PC a year from now since this looks promising.
same here. for me the benchmarks are disappointing to be honest I'm seeing only 10-15% better performance over the metaor lake from intel and even the battery performance doesn't seem to be much better. Intel lunar lake will totally smash this chips coming in only 4 months. Nevertheless, I think it's a good for the competition, but with this prices I'd even consider buying an intel laptop like the asus zenbook 14 or hp sepcture without compromising for compatibility.
Bruhh getting a pc with intel chip = mature decision lol.
Get one with AMD chip instead, much better battery life, cheaper and fully compatible with x86.
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombat
Intel core ultra is actually not that bad
It is just still "promising". Yes, not this nano Asus . Better Samsung
Wait for the new gen Strix laptops from Amd. These will be obsolete within a month (except maybe Qualcomm's heat efficiency)
Great video, thanks for putting this together. One quick note on SOTTR (around 2:41) ... the game actually does use DX12 (or DX11) despite it saying "No display adapter installed". The reason it says "No display adapter installed" is not because DX12 or Vulkan crashed the game, its because the game searches for an integrated GPU along the PCI bus and the Adreno GPU is enumerated using ACPI, not PCI. Overall I do recommend one of these Snapdragon laptops, they are thin and light with great all-day battery life and don't get too hot or too noisy.
With the limited support and Parallels for Mac, i just see it as a waste at this moment. Mac had time to develop their arm chip and Microsoft will take a few years to catch up. Youre better getting an M1 Pro in terms of performance to price.
I recently bought the Samsung one with the faster X Elite CPU and what works is great but some stuff just doesn't run at the moment. It is no gaming laptop but with support and a generational leap in GPU I think that it has potential to be the go-to thin and light of gaming as the performance/watt ratio is good. ARM feels like the future IMO, hence why I early adopted, even though things are not 100% ATM.
I'm glad that Windows is finally on the right path with ARM chipsets. I'm excited for the compact laptops for web browsing and media usage as I hate tablets and not a big fan of Macs.
You can tell the Microsoft is gunning DIRECTLY for the macbook pro & macbook air. They scored 8/10 in repairability whereas they used to score 0/10, like Apple! And EVERYTHING about their surface 7 is like an upgraded macbook air. EVERYTHING.
Naming is stupid. Call them all Elite but then having different skus of elite will make this confusing to the laymen. They should have just done a plus pro and Elite naming scheme.
It's the world' stupidest marketing move. There need to be 3 snapdragons - good, better, best. We have good, better1, better2, better3, better4. And all the laptop makers buy the better1 CPUs, so nobody has actually published the single-core performance yet because better1 and better2 won't boost on 2 of the single cores !!
I’m testing a Surface Pro with the Elite processor. Ecosystem/compatibility is a major issue. Many popular x86 apps refuse to install or launch. Also, most drivers are not arm compatible yet. So, unable to use a printer or an external audio interface.
They had a great opportunity and blew it.
In my mind this is so crazy, I mean ARM is a complete different Architecture and right out of the Box so much works. Even that you can plug in you USB Dongle for your Mouse and even have to think about it, is incredible because it is not a matter of course.
This chip is really gonna shine with emulation. Hopefully ryujinx gets a native WoA version
Just curious how's the cooling systems when gaming?
Where is the best place to look out for drivers and game patches for arm?
how does blue stacks work on the snapdragon processor? are you able to do a video of that?
Looks goo but it seems that there is still some work to be done. Thanks for the video
Hey m8 I would love to hear news on OLED laptops that can game, and the possibility of screen replacement that doesn't cost a fortune! GG on your new video!
Get new legion laptops
legion slim 5 14 is amazing, it has a 3k 120hz oled with a 105w 4060 it also have an amd cpu wich means its much more efficient compared to intel
How long the battery lasts when gaming?
I'm more interested in the product than I'm interested in buying it. Way too early.
How is the fan noise with snapdragon vs intel while gaming? I know Intel is loud…
So what if you install android on this and then play warzone mobile?
Is the qualcoom snapdragon x elite processor suitable for programming and cybersecurity? I'm a Cyber security student, does it benefit me to the university stage?
Hey can you please check if DayZ is working with the Snapdragon X Elite? I need a new laptop and one of the few games I wanna play on PC is DayZ.. I would appreciate it!
Games might not be a strong point for these, not yet anyway, but the cool running and consistent performance on battery makes them great productivity machines. Provided your apps run.
It does seem to me that reviewers were much kinder to Apple regarding the lack of native apps and lack of gaming chops when they launched the M1.
The entire industry is an iSheep
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombat It does seem that way. Definitely an Apple bias to most tech reviewers and much less critical when it comes to their products. I suspect Apple sends them goodie bags.
I think you definitely forget that when m1 came out a lot of reviewers were telling people to wait because of the compatibilities issues ,so no you are actually wrong ,the difference is apps in general were kind forced to quickly fix it for MacBook m1s when it launch and also Apple were using Rosetta which at the time was allowing you to run intels version apps on macs m1 ,Windows was also running faster on MacBook under Rosetta then most windows laptops at the time ,m1 was a big changed at the time , kinda like a turning point of laptops .
Apple did a better job getting software emulated on m1 than jas happened with the snapdragon. Im not denying that apple bias can be a thing, but in this case apple did a much better job. It was also the first on the market so had no comparison so was more exciting/novel
@Omar-kl3xp yeah this is accurate. Apple leveraged their power as the controller of their ecosystem to get apps emulated or ported quickly and it was effective. That's much less do-able for any hardware company in the PC space
Oh it is so great if "being optimized", so we may give it a chance when "optimized" is the default in the future. It sounds like Intel Arc driver problem, which is faster than 780m on paper but run much slower when playing real games.
I already have my surface pro 11 . Awesome device.. It has more than enough power. Its on the developers to optimize their apps and games. As far as workflow it is dang near flawless. Great review although I'm not one who watches reviews because some are bias and some are influencers. I would've miss out on some good products listening to some of these guys 😂.
whats the battery life ? I have got an surface 9 pro and lets say the battery is mediocre at best.... Also how is the new drawing feature where ai enhances your drawing ?
@@BIBRO0 I haven't tried drawing on it. The battery life is pretty good. It will drain faster with apps that aren't optimized yet for it.That is to be expected though. Stand by is pretty excellent. I use Lightroom and Photoshop regularly. They can be pretty taxing on a machine. I'm happy with its overall performance so far. Adobe needs to do their part and get their apps up to speed. Their apps work which is good but can be better.
Can we get a comparison with amd cpu laptop?
The problem is support for higher resolution. But I think an update is coming.
First time I've ever been first to watch a video from ur channel
Super quick!
You're so unlucky the videos was nothing but Intel Laptop Ads, Max tech ever he is Apple fans has more cober up stories than this .
I would rather wait for Lunar Lake at this point. But props to Snapdragon, first entry on Laptop market isn't bad and hope it gets better in next generations.
Honestly, I'm surprised that there isn't a dedicated transition decoder baked into the hardware that does all of the heavy lifting while the rest of the hardware is fully utilized for applications
I wonder if you installed Linux, how would it change
what about put in dual boot custom AndroidOS ?
Same rules for that as for Intel Arc graphics. Dont buy expensive Beta test products unless you really got the money to spare. But if this is a major investment for you in terms of gaming then just dont. These things arent cheap after all.
It will be good to wait for the 2nd Gen version before Snapdragon
Man use this chip on handheld with the game already support arm, maybe it can last longer than the current windows handheld
it will take about 4-6 months to see these performances level to expectations, even in benchmarks, I have faith snapdragon will try to impress laptop manufactures to trust in their chips over the months with updates. Early adoption risk here as expected but it will pick up.
Unlike what Intel did with the arc series of gpus, Qualcomm made the mistake of not offering these laptops without a hefty discount until they perform exactly like the benchmarks listed months ago.
What? That game you have shown is not Dota 2 at all..
This is 1st gen after all, give it a few more iterations and the Snapdragon may be a good alternative in the future. It wasn't all smooth sailing for Apples M1 chip either.
Are you sure that League of Legends ran pretty well? As far as I know it won't even boot.
If these can run both Cubase with plugins and League I'd be all set, but the uncertainty is killing me.
league of legends definitely does not run.. no riot games run because of the vanguard anti cheat client
I meant to say DOTA 2* - sorry. You're right, League of Legends does NOT run.
Can you test if SketchUp Pro works on the Snapdragon Processor?
Can it handle a llama 3.1 70b model?
waiting for steam os gaming at this chips
if games start working smoothly on ARM chips we will see a lot of long life battery handheld devices in the future.
0:00 I feel like this laptop is best known as the Snapdragon laptop that opens 180° for some reason.
This is why so many people game on consoles or mobile devices. You can have a mobile device from a few years ago and still play the latest games. The Nintendo Switch was released in 2017, and they're still making new games for it! Meanwhile for PC AAA gaming, you can build a monster desktop with high end dedicated graphics and still be unable to max out games in a few years. That is annoying and average people don't want to deal with it.
Well you cant necessarily play on ultra but you will still get a much better picture and performance at any game in a side by side comparison with a console. Even after lowering your settings, stuff still looks completely different than on a ps5, let alone a switch.
Finally some gaming reviewsl

I see a future where arm chips are the standard, x86 needs to rest already
It might be more beneficial if they focused on updating the chip to support a wider range of games, rather than updating each game individually. It's important to remember that it's still a CPU, and we're not quite at that level yet.
I've bought a Lenovo Yoga with Snapdragon and tried a little bit of game testing just for the sake of curiosity. Disabling Windows Super Resolution or whatever It's the english name (in Italy is SUPER RISOLUZIONE AUTOMATICA) enables the option of select the proper resolution on the options of the games I've tried (the few ones working obv).
that wasn't DOTA 2 game!!?!??!?!
Oof it's so cheap and plasticy looking... yoga slim 7x is so much cuter
I also hate silvery shimmering hard plastic housings.
Hello,
yoga Slim 7X X Elite 32GB vs M2 Pro 16GB
Iam currently deciding which machine to get but aim kinda unsure. Iam a cs student and software developer and the machine should def be powerful enough for my workload. What would you think?
Ty
I would buy any Zen 5 option before this ARM crap.
I would recommend a M2 Air 24GB 15". I am eyeing that right now after my last 3 jobs had MacBook Pro 32GB with GPUs. The RAM is the biggest problem in Macs, and Apple crippled the M3 macbook airs with only 16GB. But, the macbook air CPU is just as fast as the macbook pro CPU. If you need a big screen, get a 43" 4K TV to get around the limited number of monitors for the MacBook Air ...
I wouldn't recommend any new arm windows laptops for work or important tasks. Same as M1 mac books, we will need to wait until all apps are native instead of simulated. I remember losing hours of work because of crashes on my old M1 mac book air.
Hopefully in few months many apps will be native.
What about games like RDR, Witcher, GTA??
Performance on battery and not battery totally depends on your settings though.
the problem will always be windows software whether arm or x86. windows needs a complete overall
how are you playing rocket league ? I am unable to get it to play on my laptop...
should have tested cyberpunk cuz too much data available on this game in terms of benchmarking on the itnternet, other than this amazing video. Thanks.
Ordered the Yoga version.
When you lay off someone who knows your source code 😂,
i was wondering can we pair this cpu with nvidia or amd gpu??
Hm good question
Is this the first snapdragon laptop that they've built?
No there have been more snapdragon laptops for Windows. Besides the Snapdragon 8cx there haven't really been any good ones made. But even the 8cx fall short in a lot of stuff.
no, we have been using them for 3 decades so far, that is why everybody is talking about this right now...
In the earlier efforts to do ARM/snapdragon laptops, the only native apps were Windows/ARM and Office/ARM. Now that Apple has blazed the trail with M1/M2/M3/M4, a lot of windows software makers see the writing on the wall - if they don't recompile for ARM and for lower-power CPUs, they might die. So this time around there are probably 50 ARM native apps including some major ones like Slack and DaVinci Resolve that are available.
Most of the games aren't optimized with ARM chip😔
I think the driver problem is the larger problem for performance here, instead of emulation. I tried an ARM port of doom 3 (an online, fan made one, so take everything I say with the appropriate grains of salt), and I didn't actually see much difference in the overall framerate--both were stuck at between 40 and 50 fps.
... the x86 version had similar lighting issues to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but still. Similar performance.
Qualcomm has a lot of work ahead of them to optimise drivers. It's going to be the Intel arc situation all over again
I've heard there will be a big gaming driver released in the next few weeks
@@The_Ninja_Chin The curse of new GPU architectures, I guess
I got the laptop for productivity and not for gaming. I'm happy with the laptop for what I do with it.
Great. Just don’t hand it down to your kids as student laptop. It probably won’t work with legacy x86 education software!
Lets just wait 6 months of updaters it probobly goona run much stuff after...
I mean, for me all I need is minecraft and geometry dash really
MC is obviously gonna work perfectly cause Microsoft is ALL for the snapdragon X elite but geometry dash idk, I'd have to ask robtop to make ARM support (basically port the Mac version to windows on ARM💀)
Does it play GTA 5 and Just cause 4?
Whenever you make a long term review of any of these snapdragon powered laptops, please mention battery life as well. Snapdragon guys make huge claims in battery efficiency.
I hope they put these SoC on the next Samsung Tab Ultra and challenge the iPad Pro. :D Let the "hyper" tablet games begin? :D
The GPU is weak, probably only 1/2 - 2/3rds the speed of an Xe2 or Strix Point GPU. So, it's a 1080p low-settings GPU, not a 1080p ultra GPU.
Can i buy for 3d autocad work
so the hardware is quite good but the software is not smooth enough for game
It's simple when ARM is faster at everything than x86 I'll switch. ARM chip with RTX6080M. It might happen by then; who knows?
it be getting relatively the same fps as the m1, tho pure cpu for the price is better, I want to see a vid on the most powerful x elite vs the m3's most powerful 40core gpu
I don't think you do, the M3 SuperMaxProUltra (I forget which the top one is & I'm not even going to Google it) is in a totally different league in terms of GPU resources, power draw, cost etc.
@@hokayson6518 The thing about the snapdrags is their cpu power is amazing, the only problem really is windows, as windows is mainly meant for power over longevity, (I have a PC) but in the end apple is the better option, The m4 (10core) Scoring 4500 compared to 3800 in cinebench, And in Cpu Power the M4 scored 53340, Compared to the snaps 3,895 (Geekbench) The Cost Is relatively the same, $100 difference. Once the M4 Pro and max's come out there will be no competition, the m4 would have it in the bag. Here's the problem for windows on Arm games, or any professional software right now: Microsoft still haven't fully committed to switching completely to Arm, at least not openly, and when you still have x86 platforms all over the place for consumer to choose from, developers still aren't going to prioritize porting their software to windows on Arm, even though Microsoft is trying their best to collaborate with devs to make it happen, and this isn't just for the CPU, it also applies to the Adreno GPU of the X Elite, and I don't think Qualcomm has enough resources as Nvidia, AMD, or even Intel to make the driver work for even most of the game on steam, if Intel already have a hard time with it, don't expect Qualcomm to have an easy time making it work.
Unlike Qualcomm and Microsoft, Apple have made their commitment to switching to Arm clear from the get go, and unlike the X Elite, which only really beat the competition in multicore and NPU performance while losing in graphics, power efficiency, and single core performance, the M1 completely obliterated anything it it's weight class in every metric at launch: efficiency, single core and multicore performance, graphics performance, and video encoding/decoding, in fact it is so powerful that even under rosetta 2 it still managed to beat the previous intel macs in a lot of applications. If Qualcomm released the X Elite right after the M2, which is the competition they are comparing in there performance comparisons initially, this would have been a huge success, but they didn't, instead they waited until Apple have released the M4 to finally start shipping.
I really only see windows on Arm happening when Nvidia start making Arm SOCs for windows with unified memory, with their superior graphics architecture that already have perfect driver support on windows, this could be the catalyst for real professional applications and AAA games being ported to windows on arm, due to their dominance in those applications; a lot of computational tasks have transitioned to running on the GPU over the years that massively speed up those tasks, so having a powerful GPU in you computer has become way more important now, and consider that the X Elite is so weak in graphics that even the M2 can beat it, I don't see this as an M1 moment for Qualcomm and Microsoft at all, at best they have only just caught up, but not beaten Apple, and Microsoft really should work with Nvidia to develop a true professional class SOC, and commit to fully transitioning to Arm which is going to be way harder for Microsoft than Apple.
Apple also decided to drop support for x86, so developers had no other choice but to introduce native apps.
@@KP21530Apple developers can work with a decision of drop x86. What are windows developers going to do now? Support both x86 & ARM? Who’s going to pay for that? You?
I'msurprised BG3 ran so poorly, since they already ported it to ARM (Apple Silicon.) Maybe the Adreno GPU is not so good?
Just because there is an Apple/ARM Port, doesn't mean there is a Windows/ARM port.
I remember running doom 3 on my phone it work just great it use Adreno too😂
Come on people, be optimistic, it will get better in the future. Don't lose your hopes only because of this first generation. Wait for the second generation chipset to come, it will get way better, A s said by the tech chap himself. But that's just my opinion.
