    Dr. Dray, I've been using that Salicylic Body Spray from Differin that you recommended a while back. It has a little Glycolic acid in it as well. I haven't had acne on my body in over 6 months now!

    I use the Ordinary glycolic acid almost everyday with tretinoin every other night. I’m 47 and I started this routine 3 years ago and my skin looks better than it did in my 30’s. I use a few other things, but I attribute how my skin looks to those two products. I’ve never had great skin and now I do, it’s crazy! Great video Dr Dray!! And yes I had to work up to using both products over about 6-9 mos.

    I have used salysilic acid 2% since high school (I'm now 59) and still use it. My skin loves it and responds so well without any irritation. I do have some hyperpigmentation (no sunscreen in my 20's & 30's) and will try incorporating glycolic acid as well. I just started using vitamin C under my sunscreen in the a.m. Thank you for all you do to educate us. I have learned so much and use many of your recommended products! ❤

    As someone who suffers with an oily scalp and dry hair, it's been really helpful to repurpose my salicylic acid body spray for use on my scalp as a leave-on. It really helps to cut down on the oil and helps me go longer between washes.

    I love using The Ordinary 5% Lactic Acid under the eyes. I only do this, maximum once per week at night because I know it can cause irritation if used too often. I have sensitive skin and I haven't had any issues using it under the eyes. It really makes a difference in the texture and smoothness of the under eye area. I really notice a difference when I apply makeup and eye creams. I also use Lactic Acid on my face and neck and have had great results! Sometimes I will alternate the 5% and 10% for my face, but I ONLY use the 5% under my eyes. I also like Glycolic Acid, but it really can cause irritation for me, so I tend to stick with the Lactic Acid. P.S. I tried the Biossance Lactic Acid serum, and I couldn't keep it on more than 5 minutes due to the burning (fragrance). I've never had irritation with The Ordinary Lactic Acid leaving it on overnight. It's an excellent product!! Highly recommend!

    I use a salicylic cleanser followed by a glycolic acid toner and then I use a gentle cleanser with a retinol serum at night and my skin has been looking great. I’m at the tail end of the purge, but the mix I use makes the acne, and only the acne, dry out so when I wash my face the white heads just fall out. But the rest of my skin is hydrated from all the other stuff I use. I like using them together, and I just make sure I use spf, even if I’m just sitting inside at home all day.

  • @SDWits
    @SDWits ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've always wondered why my skin does not like salicylic acid. I'm not allergic to aspirin, but salicylic acid makes me have continuous, painful cystic breakouts well past the purge period. So I stay away! In terms of acids, I like lactic, glycolic, and mandelic. And for my acne, I like tretinoin, niacinamide, and benzoyl peroxide.

Now i totally agree with you Doctor Andrea we all should read the product's instructions in order to get the results we want from these products and of course addressing these acids to the particular skin issues that these are for ok 😅 and not other issues irrelevant to what these products can do and have nothing to do with their properties. Lactic and mandelic acids are both AHA acids like glycolic acid. But glycolic acid molecule is smaller, so it penetrates deeper and can be more irritating. So if you’re sensitive or just start with acids, maybe it’s better to start with mandelic or lactic acid, less irritating and more moisturising.

    Iv been using The Ordinary 7% Gycolic Acid for years and I love it plus it's fine under my arms...
    Plus I'm interested in the Cereve you showed that has both ingredients in so thanks for that... not that I have spots but like it for smooth clear skin... I'd stop the Ordinary though while I used the Cereve Doc ❤❤❤

    15:35 - That is interesting. I haven't really thought about that, with BHA and AHA maybe clashing or just not being as effective as a product formulated with both ingredients in one. Then I'd still have the individual ingredients if I want to use salicylic twice a day, or get a more serious dose of glycolic. Could also just have BHA in the morning and AHA at night, but I'm currently trying to keep the morning routine super simple.

    I've been trying the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift 3.5% Pure Glycolic Acid Cleansing Gel wth Salicylic Acid. I leave it on for 5 min and then rinse off. I only started with once a week. This week I did it twice. That'll be my limit. We'll see how it helps with my hyperpigmentation though it's not the only thing I'm using

    Ok not v relevant to this topic but almost all the info I see on Testosterone gel is from other users.
    As a dermatologist can you make a video(s) from your perspective about Testosterone gels, in particular what step of body skincare routine to apply, without decreasing effectiveness of either, and any combos to seek or avoid in the same routine like retinols or exfoliants??
    They're alcohol based so super drying, and they also pill really bad when using after moisturizer or if there's any oils or anything on the skin so it's recommended to use right after the shower or to wash the area immediately before (I usually use a SA cleanser). But ime I also get pilling when I moisturize after, unless I wait like hourss, so usually I just forget to moisturize my upper arms. 😅 And of course hormonal acne all over can be a side effect.
    For more context, I'm trans & nonbinary. Most videos I see are either gym bros often fearmongering about all kinds of stuff, or older teens/early 20s trans kids just talking about common T effects. I'm going on 30 & increasingly interesting in skincare and the science behind it, and I love your video formats. ❤
