PSA for everyone with atopic skin: criminally underrated niacinamide product that I will never stop using (I have rosacea) is Bioderma Atoderm Gel Creme. Best gel creme on the market. Super gentle, super hydrating and is amazing under sunscreen. Also, the bottle is huge.
Niacinamide has helped me overall with small wrinkles but I will say Vitamin C definitely brightens my skin a bit more! So I guess both being used is beneficial
After cleansing my face in the morning, I use litelextra rice berry Vitamin C face serum. My feedback after using it for three months: 1. Not greasy 2. watery consistency 3. blends easily 4. excellent quality 5. saw glowing results within a month of use Definitely recommended. Also, I do apply retinol in the evening.

The vitamin C that caused skin flaking on me was Timeless 20%. I’ve not used it in 18 months. I get Niacinamide in EltaMD UV Clear sunscreen and Agency Future Formula.
I had to stop my Vitamin C when I had perioral dermatitis. After that cleared up and I talked to my dermatologist about introducing skincare back she said she doesn’t recommend Vitamin C. She said none of the dermatologists in her office use it. So I stick to niacinimide now.
Great information! I have repeatedly tried Vit C in a variety of formulations and my skin just didn't like them, but I kept on trying because I thought it was so important for my skin! I have been using Ceravie PM moisturizer for years without issue, without realizing that niacinamide was providing some of the same benefits. Yay!
I enjoy using both. Niacinamide at night and vitamin c in the morning. After trying several vitamin v products I finally found one that I love from Geek and Gorgeous. It is super affordable being less than one third what I had been paying for Vit c. Also they make a new batch every week so when yours reaches you it is only two to three weeks old so it stays fresh much longer than other brands. I also love the results that it’s giving me.
I'm team both. I use walgreen's version/dupe of cerave vitamin C serum in the morning. I then use the real deal cerave AM moisturizer with SPF. I have tried the store brand dupes of this and with my older skin I like the thickness of the cerave one over the store brands. At night I use either the actual cerave (purple label jar) night moisturizer or the walgreens version. Both are great to help buffer my tretinoin. It was my struggles with using tretinoin that had me find this channel. I have shared your videos on KP with my sister and she has reported great results with the drug store products that you recommend. So thank you again!!!
These major channels are always pushing CeraVe. The moisturizer I saw from them contains alcohol, which is something many should avoid. Why is this 'national and global treasure' pushing such a product?
I am so happy to hear about vitamin c. I know by skin being so sensitive, the vitamin c in that format will not be for me . I will stick to my gentle cleanser, w/Squalane & SPF 50 broad spectrum sunscreen moisturizer, and retinol alongside of my hyaluronic acid serum. These things have been good and work for me.

This info was so so helpful. I’ve tried the most gentle vit c’s and my skin gets drier and more sun sensitive despite slathering on SPF50. I am now happy to rely entirely on niacinamide as its actions suit what I want ie addressing pigmentation, helping with aging skin and not being irritating. I have mature dry skin.

As a chemist myself, this is my favorite skincare actives ingredients in order: 1. Vit. C, retinols, niacinamide in terms of how well my skin reacts. 2. Niacinamide, Vit. C, retinols in terms of how comfortable they are formulated well into skincare products.
I've used the CeraVe knock-off from CVS as a daily moisturizer and I have no complaints, but it doesn't state the percentage of niacinamide in it, or how much of it is in there. For that, I've been using the Sephora brand's "NiaZin" toner ($14), which contains 5% niacinamide plus zinc (listed as the second and third ingredients, after water). I'm not a big fan of toners, and would like a more serum-like product, but for the price, it's definitely a good purchase, in my opinion. Another thing about the liquid consistency is that I feel most of it gets wasted on a cotton pad, so I've been sort of "splashing" it on my face while it's still a bit damp after cleansing, and it's been lasting me a while. Just my two cents. 🙂
Niacinamide all the way for me. Good Vit C products are just too pricey to use long term. Thank you for always delivering such thorough, informative, scientific material. Yer a dermo Queen!

Love love love Paula’s Choice 20%! Not in love with any Vitamin C I’ve tried. I’ve tried Skinceuticals, Vichy and Paula’s Choice. Paula’s Choice was not irritating like the other two…great video as always!
I use both vitamin c (SkinCeuticals) & niacinamide (CeraVe pm). I have Melasma and I have tried many vitamin C serums and I saw a noticeable difference with the SkinCeuticals vitamin C. Very expensive but so worth it to me. Thank you. ❤
In my own experience niacinamide is by far, better than anything else for my daily routine. My skin looks really renewed every time I use it, especially before to sleep. Vitamin C & retinol or tretinoin works excellent too but I can't use them daily.
I use both and they both work great for me. I like timeless vitamin C 20% serum and the Agency’s products I get prescribed has niacinamide in the formula for my skin care routine. Great information ❤
I alternate between G&G C-Glow in the am and Stratia Rewind in the pm. Other products in my morning routine also have niacinamide, mostly for hyperpigmentation. I like to use peptides and retinal in my nighttime routine. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate the fact that you make it fun to learn about skincare and for not talking "down" to us. Many blessings!!!💖💖💖
Niacinamide for me. I use the Paula’s Choice Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum in the morning with Niacinamide and a form of stabilized Vit C, and Vit e. I use Elf Holy Hydration before Tretinoin in the evening, it also has Niacinamide. Most Vit C serums are too irritating and I don’t have the patience to babysit their short shelf life.

@@miriamscerri7406 The first product I used that contained niacinamide was Cereve Resurfacing retinol serum. The concentration of retinol is pretty low and the niacinamide was higher up on the ingredients list which meant higher concentration. I loved the way that made my skin feel and look immediately. I moved on to a high concentration retinol/ niacinamide serum by qrx labs. 1% retinol, 5%niacinamide. Great results with that one too. I'm currently using naturium retinaldehyde which does not contain niacinamide but I make sure to use moisturizers that contain niacinamide: Bubble moisturizer, Cereve tinted sunscreen, Elf moisturizer. I'm satisfied with my routine and don't feel I need a niacinamide serum, so long as it's in the moisturizers and/or toners I use. I'm combo to oily, fare skin, no major issues. My routine targets oiliness, "large pores," and combating some dry areas that arise with mature skin. I'm 43.
Niacin amide for me no contest and I use the ten percent serum plus a moisturiser containing niacinamide in the first four ingredients - my skin adores it and so do I
Thank you so much! After ditching ce ferulic after it went above $120, I really wondered if I was missing out, I’m living my kbeauty anua niacinimide + tranexamic acid serum, great results, no irritation when paired with beauty of josen retinal ginseng serum that I use all over my face nightly

Creamy Skincare has a C E Ferrulic serum too. They're a Brazilian brand that is getting into the US market now. I used their serum but now they have a B complex serum that just gets much better results for my skin. I think they're a bit on the pricier side in the US, but their products are definitely worth checking out
Dr. Dray, I appreciate all of your skincare advice on your channel! Because of you, I am able to order all of the products I need to get the ingredients and peptides I need to make my own skincare routine at drugstore prices! I am purchasing mostly Cera Ve products.
Skinceuticals CE ferulic in the A.M. after washing, following with sunblock and Trianon in the P.M. has changed my skin for the better. I love both these products.
If copper is necessary for an enzyme that makes pigment, does that mean it would actually be counterproductive to use a serum with copper peptides if you struggle with dark spots (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation)? 😨 Because I‘ve been doing that… 😅 And I really love this serum, but I‘d like to treat the hyperpigmentation, not make it worse!
I really appreciate the detailed description of how these two ingredients work. I took my sensitive skin quite a while to get used to anything that contained niacinamide but now my skin does well with it. I've never been able to use anything with vitamin c. Thanks, as always, for all that you do. You're awesome, Dr Dray! Happy Monday!! I hope you have a blessed evening. 💙
I have super sensitive over 60 skin and have never been able to use vitamin C in my skin products until I switched to Naturium products a few months ago. I have been using the Multi Peptide Advanced serum (has ferulic acid and niacinamide) at night and the Multi Peptide Moisturizer (has encapsulated methylated vitamin C and niacinamide) during the day. I have seen a real difference in my skin texture and brightness without irritation. I also have started using their retinaldehyde cream serum at night with the Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream as the last step. So far, I am impressed with their products.
Hi I'm Loretta De Los Rios using Frank's account to make this comment with his permission . I'm glad that is working for you. Since you have hyper sensitive skin like mine. Let me suggested a vitamin C serum it is from SKIN DEVA. 🙏
Like the comparison! I use PC 10% niacinamide. I also use Cerave PM moisturizer. Plus I use other products with niacinamide. Wondering if just using products with niacinamide is enough and maybe I don’t need a separate topical
In Japan, the use if vitamin C serum is used to lighten skin (dark circles under eyes, blotchy skin or age spots). Lemon juice is also often used to lighten dark spots (likely due to ascorbic acid in lemon juice).
Much appreciation for the vast knowledge that you share with your viewers! Every video teaches me something new! Now using Niacinamide to combat too many years of no sunscreen use!
For anyone interested, I've found both in serum form at Dollar Tree. That plus retinol. Works pretty well. I did buy the Skinceuticals Vit C on sale and wowzah it does make a difference in my skin. I only use that every few days since it's so $$😂
You mentioned that 3% and 5% were the levels used in studies. You then recommended Cerave PM and I contacted the company and they said the amount was proprietary. This leads me to believe it is very little. Why wouldn't they share how much there is especially if there are studies backing up the amount for results. Seems like a little bit deceiving to me.
Doctor Andrea what a great video 😊❤. Loved the comparison between vitamin c and niacinamide and the slight differences they have in their way they act and work on the skin. Definitely I'm on team Niacinamide because there is no reason 😅 it just is perfect ingredient for me ❤ and the la roche posay lipikar Ap+m baume the original and the light version are so great both for face and body. The CeraVe is also one of my top favorites light in consistency, absorbs well and helps the skin stay hydrated 😊. Have a great day Doctor Andrea ❤.
Vitamin C has done nothing for my age spots. I have been using a couple of different brands for a couple of years and see no difference. I think l will give Niacinamide a try as soon as my vitamin c is finished.
I tried SkinCeuticals, but I don't see any difference compared to Paula's Choice vitC booster. They're both great and deliver the same results at a different price point :')
The traditional use of real aloe vera gel (squeezed out of the plant) after sun exposure now makes more sense -- aloe has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties!
Hi Dr. Dray- I'd like your thoughts on coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and ribose for creepy skin. I just bought Eurcerin lotion, which has helped, along with tretinoin.
I can’t use niacinamide and can only use THD Ascorbate. My skin has become way to sensitive since using Tretinoin. I found OleHenricksen Truth Serum, which I love, but would like a less expensive product suggestion. Thanks Dr. Dray!
I have been trying to find a good affordable THD serum as well. I have tried the Vani cream but it only has 5% THD and I'm not sure if that is enough to be effective. When I find a THD product that is affordable they usually don't state the percentage or it's way down on ingredients list. 30-40$ range is what I would be willing to pay for an effective product, but can't find one!
Dr. Dray, could you please give us some affordable THD serum suggestions that actually have enough in them to be effective. Also I have been wanting to try Vitamin K serum for dark circles and the Naturium Vitamin K with lipos ones has been suggested but they have been sold out for months! Any other good options you know?
Affordable THD products that others dermatology channels have recommended are the vanicream serum and the versed moisturizer. Dr Dray's not really a fan of vit c derivatives and doesn't tend to recommend them but other dermatologists do. Dr Dray has a video on vitamin k eye creams.@@roxannerutherford3524

Interesting about the vitamin C causing shedding. I seem to constantly have little shedding (at least twice a month) and use asorbic acid -the 20%vitamin C +E + ferulic acid. i attributed it to chemical sunscreen so recently changed to all mineral sunscreens so I'll see how that goes. I also use niacinamide, tretinoin, transexamic acid, dexpanthenol but stopped using lactic acid several months ago

Thank you for the content, which is always very informative and based on scientific evidence, fact that helps us a lot to make better decisions regarding the type of product that best meets our personal needs! Excellent job, Dr. Dray! Team niacinamide here!
Love love love Paula’s Choice 20%! Not in love with any Vitamin C I’ve tried. I’ve tried Skinceuticals, Vichy and Paula’s Choice. Paula’s Choice was not irritating like the other two…great video as always!
you mean 25% or 15%, I haven't heard of a 20% PC?
I use both vitamin c (SkinCeuticals) & niacinamide (CeraVe pm). I have Melasma and I have tried many vitamin C serums and I saw a noticeable difference with the SkinCeuticals vitamin C. Very expensive but so worth it to me. Thank you. ❤
Have you ever tried the Timeless Vit C?
It's supposed to be as good as the Skinceutical but cheaper.
@@islandmama Yes and unfortunately it doesn’t work on my Melasma as well as SkinCeuticals.
Niacinamide. Love it. Can’t see much difference when using vitamin c. Maybe got wrong one.
I’m using same products
Dr. Dray you are the best! Answered all my questions.
I ditched all these products I only use spf and retinol basic inexpensive moisturiser and my skin has gotten better diet is key and sun protection
Most Vit C serums are too irritating and I don’t have the patience to babysit their short shelf life.
i have used that pauls choice product for years!!! if you look at the ingredient list , i dont know why you would need anything else!!!!!!! i also use lots of sunscreen and retin a....seriously, wha else do you need?? keeps it simple..such a great product
@@maryannbarrett6696I’ve using that PC serum for years also and I agree with you, it has everything. I like to keep my routine simple too.
@@paulachristie7807 I'm another PC fan! Great brand and they often have sales which makes them not as expensive as they first seem. In fact I have 11 PC products still unopened laying around thanks to their sales xD
You're the best Dr Dray. I'm team niacinimide. Vitamin C seems to be irritating to my skin so I avoid it.
I find the effects of niacinamide to be immediate. I love the way my skin looks and feels with niacinamide.
may i ask you what Brand you use?
@@miriamscerri7406
The first product I used that contained niacinamide was Cereve Resurfacing retinol serum. I'm 43.

I love niacinamide fot my acne prone skin. It's done wonders for my skin! Vitamin c tends to irritate my skin too much
I know she's not necessarily a fan, but some folks with acne like the SAP form of vit c.
Niacin amide for me no contest and I use the ten percent serum plus a moisturiser containing niacinamide in the first four ingredients - my skin adores it and so do I
Thank you! Once again you saved me money on experimenting with a new product. Niacinamide stays in the routine!
I use both, niacinamide in my moisturizer and a vitamin C serum. Thank you Dr. Dray for making this video 😘
You are such a great knowledgeable dermatologist! Wow. Wish you were in Frisco,TX. We need a good dermatologist here that's not just promoting certain products. Thank you for information. I will use both!😊
Creamy Skincare has a C E Ferrulic serum too.
Q10 cream seems to brighten and calm my skin. Topical Vitamin C (L-AA) and Niacinamide are big irritants for my rosacea skin.
Because I‘ve been doing that… 😅 And I really love this serum, but I‘d like to treat the hyperpigmentation, not make it worse!
🙏❤️🐈🐈🍰🫖☕️☕️❤️🙏
Thank you so much for this! I've been looking to try niacinamide but needed some more info. This helped so much.
Cerave PM has niacinamide and ceramides! Woot!!
Timeless Skincare has CE ferulic acid vitamin C serum that is also really good!!
I use it at nights and in the morning under my makeup
In Japan, the use if vitamin C serum is used to lighten skin (dark circles under eyes, blotchy skin or age spots). Lemon juice is also often used to lighten dark spots (likely due to ascorbic acid in lemon juice).
Can you do an update on ultra dry skin and best products for treating it?
Thank you I absolutely love all your information that explain the science behind what your review.
Thank you for the info Dr Dray! This content finally answered my question between the 2. I really love your videos and your honest reviews.
Outstanding! I use your recommendation of CereVe pm moisturizer. And also the daytime with spf. When I combine vitamin C with either , my skin peels.
Dr Dray, can you please make a video about combining hydroquinone and glycolic acid on the body?
thank you
A lot of information to take in & nice to know! Have a great week! ❤️
I use timeless CoQ10 serum, and vit c + ferulic 20%
Thank you so much Dr. Dre. Now I can safely know which ingredients better for my skin and still is budget friendly.
Team niacinamide!
Vitamin C has done nothing for my age spots. I have been using a couple of different brands for a couple of years and see no difference. I think l will give Niacinamide a try as soon as my vitamin c is finished.
Team Niacinamide here! Thanks Dr. Dray 🙏
My pocketbook thanks you for this. I will quit searching for a Vit C serum and stick with my niacinamide. 😊
Great info! What are your thoughts on products that combine Vit C and retinol for effectiveness?
Definitely team N bc it's already in most of my products and not a fan of vitamin C bc it does not mix w Vitamin A stuff like retinoids.
My IS Clinical advance serum + has vitamin C and niacinamide. It also has a few other goodies too
I can’t use niacinamide and can only use THD Ascorbate. My skin has become way to sensitive since using Tretinoin. I found OleHenricksen Truth Serum, which I love, but would like a less expensive product suggestion. Thanks Dr. Dray!
Vanicream has a THD serum. Versed has a THD moisturizer.
@@db-gb5xi Thanks so much!😊
I have been trying to find a good affordable THD serum as well.
I like them both but I prefer niacinamide and another vitamin B serum because theyvmake my skin glow!
Many thanks for a very informative video, presented in a way that respects the viewer's intelligence. Count me as a new subscriber!
Does the Cerave PM moisturizer contain enough niacinimide to be effecacious?
???
Would the same be true of vitamin c serum with tetrahexyldecyl as
Opposed to ascorbic acid? Loving your channel! I’m an esthetician and your info is well communicated and informative!
Very interesting! Coul you please talk more about glycation and sallow yellow skin? What can be done for reducing the process on face and body
Dr Dray, do you know anything about the future of HAA299/ 'Bis-(Diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl Benzoyl) Piperazine in sunscreen formulations? This UVA+HEVL filter has been approved for a good while in the EU, but alas, no sunscreen formulations yet. Do you have any tea on this one? Cheers!
Greetings Dr.... thanks for sharing this .... very informative. God's continued blessings
