PSA for everyone with atopic skin: criminally underrated niacinamide product that I will never stop using (I have rosacea) is Bioderma Atoderm Gel Creme. Best gel creme on the market. Super gentle, super hydrating and is amazing under sunscreen. Also, the bottle is huge.

Great information! I have repeatedly tried Vit C in a variety of formulations and my skin just didn't like them, but I kept on trying because I thought it was so important for my skin! I have been using Ceravie PM moisturizer for years without issue, without realizing that niacinamide was providing some of the same benefits. Yay!

I'm team both. I use walgreen's version/dupe of cerave vitamin C serum in the morning. I then use the real deal cerave AM moisturizer with SPF. I have tried the store brand dupes of this and with my older skin I like the thickness of the cerave one over the store brands. At night I use either the actual cerave (purple label jar) night moisturizer or the walgreens version. Both are great to help buffer my tretinoin. It was my struggles with using tretinoin that had me find this channel. I have shared your videos on KP with my sister and she has reported great results with the drug store products that you recommend. So thank you again!!!

This is very interesting, a couple years ago I started using a very basic vitamin c serum (from garnier) just out of curiosity and it helped a great deal with acne, I thought it was some other ingredient in it but with the information in this video it makes sense. I enjoy using both. Niacinamide at night and vitamin c in the morning. After trying several vitamin v products I finally found one that I love from Geek and Gorgeous. It is super affordable being less than one third what I had been paying for Vit c. Also they make a new batch every week so when yours reaches you it is only two to three weeks old so it stays fresh much longer than other brands. I also love the results that it’s giving me.

Like the comparison! I use PC 10% niacinamide. I also use Cerave PM moisturizer. Plus I use other products with niacinamide. Wondering if just using products with niacinamide is enough and maybe I don’t need a separate topical

Thank you for creating this video! It is very informative. I am on team niacinamide.
Speaking of antioxidants, I recall a few years ago that you were questioning if antioxidants in sunscreens got into the skin since sunscreens form a film (I am not sure if I worded that exactly correctly.). Do you have any more thoughts on whether antioxidants in sunscreen are effective?

I really appreciate the detailed description of how these two ingredients work. I took my sensitive skin quite a while to get used to anything that contained niacinamide but now my skin does well with it. I've never been able to use anything with vitamin c. Thanks, as always, for all that you do. You're awesome, Dr Dray! Happy Monday!! I hope you have a blessed evening. 💙

I am a vitamin C User. I do not care about niacinamides. I tried them several times in several different products and they break me out every time. Vitamin C is my holy grail. I use L-ascorbic acid serums and ever since I started using it, I have not experienced dry patches on my skin (which was absolutely normal for me before, especially in cold months).
    Vitamin C all the way!

I've used the CeraVe knock-off from CVS as a daily moisturizer and I have no complaints, but it doesn't state the percentage of niacinamide in it, or how much of it is in there. For that, I've been using the Sephora brand's "NiaZin" toner ($14), which contains 5% niacinamide plus zinc (listed as the second and third ingredients, after water). I'm not a big fan of toners, and would like a more serum-like product, but for the price, it's definitely a good purchase, in my opinion. Another thing about the liquid consistency is that I feel most of it gets wasted on a cotton pad, so I've been sort of "splashing" it on my face while it's still a bit damp after cleansing, and it's been lasting me a while. Just my two cents. 🙂

I always had niacinamide on my routine. Last year I started using an vitamin c serum before my niacinamide serum. And it helped a lot with hyperpigmentation and my face glow. I'm really enjoying it...❤

I had to stop my Vitamin C when I had perioral dermatitis. After that cleared up and I talked to my dermatologist about introducing skincare back she said she doesn’t recommend Vitamin C. She said none of the dermatologists in her office use it. So I stick to niacinimide now.

Dr Dray, do you know anything about the future of HAA299/ 'Bis-(Diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl Benzoyl) Piperazine in sunscreen formulations? This UVA+HEVL filter has been approved for a good while in the EU, but alas, no sunscreen formulations yet. Do you have any tea on this one? Cheers!

Thank you for all the info! I personally use both, the vitamin C serum I only use it for a few month now. My morning skincare routine is: Vitamin C serum (from Advanced Clinicals), Pycnogenol 5% (The Ordinary - I love it), Hyaluronic acid 2%+B5 (The Ordinary) and Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch 50 SPF sunscreen. My evening routine: Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (The Ordinary), Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (The Ordinary), sometimes I add Skin Envy oil (Vitality extract) or Cetaphil moisturizer. For cleaning my face I use Oxy acne cleanser with prebiotics and Acure Brightening Facial Scrub (ocasionally). 😁 Can you give me, please, your opinion about my skincare routine? Also can you do an insight about Pycnogenol? Thank you!🤗

In Japan, the use if vitamin C serum is used to lighten skin (dark circles under eyes, blotchy skin or age spots). Lemon juice is also often used to lighten dark spots (likely due to ascorbic acid in lemon juice).
