Hi Bruce....you're not alone on this one. I took one of these in on trade although yours is in better condition...heard the same clicking...couldn't get it to run regardless of what I tried. I ended up putting a Tecumseh engine on it. I think these are made by the fiddle fairy engineers.
Interesting set of problems. This one will keep you thinking. Nice looking mower for being a cheaper one. I am still amazed at how those carbs plug up, bad gas I guess. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
Bruce we have only had one Powersmart and it is the same. MJG2626 is correct we believe this click to be normal on these. Same thing with the Qtip but we use stainless steel polish you could use Brasso even tooth paste then clean it well and it should stop flooding. Do not give up on this one buddy!
If the valve clearances are to specification the only other reason it may seem hard to pull on the recoil starter is if they at some point bent the crankshaft and it is rubbing against the oil seal. We have had 3 mowers this year when they did not tell us they had hit something and they had already changed the blade but as soon as we rotated the flywheel by hand once the plug was out and the brake was off the flywheel we could feel the tightness during rotation. If the carb is flooding it will also create a hard start situation.@@BrucesShop
Thanks for showing us around the PowerSmart Bruce! These mowers do not have a good reputation in the US. Cheaply made, parts are hard to find, and don't last very long. The decompression is nice for starting but seems pretty crude on these Chinese clone engines. I have had two, one was brand new in the box from my Walmart customer return pallet days, and the other one was 2 years old with a slipped off self propel belt and I think a carb issue too. The deck already had stress cracks at that time and it wasn't used all that hard. Not very well made!
How's she goin'? OK I thought that exhaust valve 'bump' was for decompression and was designed into the engine to make it easier to start. And a leaky carb, is that not fixable or is it that you can't source a new carb. Interesting video. Thanks for posting.
Great point! I finally accepted the clicky decompression bump but I tried everything on the leaky carb. One more try with some help from Wayne at EP performance. We will see. The mower has a nice look but ........
Take a really good look at the needle tip on that carb. I have had them get slight deformed or a little bit of crud on them that takes some work to clean up. If you have a really tiny wire brush, you could get it inside where the seat area is, since the needle on these I believe has the soft/rubber tip that makes the seal.
Long time no see Bruce! Glad to see your channel has grown quite large! I suspect they didn't store it with premium gas for the winter... I think it was you that told me to only use premium, because it doesn't have ethanol that eats at the plastic/rubber lines.
You teach us all so much bruse we do respect to and the jokes and sounds you make sad that it can't be fixed nice body could you drop another motor on it
Mr.B, ... The decomposition should engage at low rpms for easy starting ? So what's the issue ? Is it at the wrong time, or not disengaging ? I think I must have missed something ? 🙄 As Usual !
That decompression snap is normal for these cheap-o engines, they have that distinct “click” sound when the decomp hump passes over on the cam. These aren’t like Loncin or other Honda clone engines, these have an even cheaper build quality and a different way of doing the same thing. Carb leaking can be easily fixed by polishing the valve seat with some aluminum polish on a Q-Tip in your drill. Do it a few times then follow it with a clean Q-Tip then clean with carb cleaner and you should be good. I do it all the time, never fails (just did one yesterday with the same carb and the same problem). Replacements are cheap and plentiful but it requires a lot of research, you have to find another piece of equipment using the same basic linkage setup as they all use the same carburetor just a different linkage connection.
@@BrucesShop I don't think the problem is being in Canada Bruce. A guy I watch, his channel is Tommy Time, is in Sarasota, Florida and he flips about 150 mowers a year. The only way he seems to get parts for them is to cannibalize other ones.
Powersmart mowers are anything but smart. I would take a MTD Powermore over it in a heartbeat. And I don’t like Powermore engines. For the leaking carb . Try buffing the seat with a q-tip on a drill. Use carb cleaner or polishing compound. I suspect the old gas damaged the seat
@@BrucesShop oh dear! Hahaha I find it funny that these have surpassed Tecumsehs in "I won't work on those" engines.. Honestly I really like the Tecumsehs, because when they're running, and maintained, they run so smooth
You will be missing a very good channel i will let Bruce know to post the warning label about flashing lights and camera movement may make you dizzy. I actually know a lot of people that have this condition and glad i do not have it.
Reminds me how important it is to keep my Quantum maintained so I don't end up having to buy a mower like that.
If you maintain it you will have for years to come.
Power Not so Smart! they seem to clog very quickly, it would be worse down here with the ethanol in our gas! Thanks for the shout out buddy!
Thank you!

Very nice mower maybe you can repair the engine great job👍
Thanks 👍 These mowers have a nice look to them.

Yikes1!!!
You gave it a good shot Mr Bruce, Connie should be happy you at least tried. 🙂👍
I Think she was. i may give it another try after Waynes advice.
@@BrucesShopThankfully you have a ready spare push mower engine if this doesn't work out.

You are right about rubber in the system. I clean the carb then All is good and 2 days later it leaks. I may give it another try.

I have though of that.
Good morning Bruce I burn my extra 2 -stroke mix in my Lawn mowers & only use Premium fuel no ethanol
Great point!
Did I miss seeing you use the primer bulb when you were first trying to start it ?
Oh I am sure. I tried every thing with some things missed in editing. Thanks for you observation.
Power-no-start 😢 built as a disposable mower.
Totally. I liked the simple enginerring but there is something missing in the delivery.
I'm not a fan of the Honda copies. Time for the lawnmower grave yard for that one. I suppose the spare parts might come in handy.
true. Thanks

It is that click drivingme nuts and the carb srill leaks after tsting to 8 lbs.

The engine mounted on the mower might be a Harbor Freight brand.
It could be.
Are the parts for them hard to get in Canada or is it a universal problem? I try to avoid the Chinese made stuff. Good video Bruce.
Me to but i try to fix what comes in.
The parts do seem hard for me to get where i am.

Can’t win them all Bruce. A shame as it looks a decent mower
They did dress this one up
Set it on the curb, for free. Someone else’s problem.
Well the coil is worth more than the mower.
