I enjoy working on Champion log splitters. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for joining in.
Now that was an electrifying experience just proving that blackouts on the electrical system are happening all over the world and now it appears to be happening in Alberta at Bruces Shop. Sad because Champion is one of the best for customer service in the industry.
This unit has been abused stored in a wet environment
You win some, you lose some. Been there and done that, more than once!
Thanks for joining the conversation
Been waiting to see this one
Right I diagnosed it to the governor. I can feel it pulse and kind of crunch when i turn over the engine. When I part it out i will be careful. The problem is that it has been abused, meaning stored under a rural building in wet conditions.
Hi Bruce, I've seen on those chonda generators where the air circuit in the carburetor will make it surge like that even on some older Honda snowblowers that had heavy commercial use (the jet and passages under the plastic idle screw) and had to rod them out with wire and old fashion carb dip. Good luck
Yes sometimes I forget to do the idle jut. Then sometimes I over jet it causing black smoke.
You got to know when to hold them and know when to fold em. Things do wear out even though we think we can make them last. It is obvious that this generator has done a lot of work. When it comes to commercial units, you get what you pay for. Good call on the vintage footage. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
Thanks a lot Stevo J
Bruce, I had the same generator and similar issue. Double check the "sheppard hook end pointing down" of the largest governor springs and make sure the end point is not bent down far enough that it is not dragging across the yellow metal shroud causing erratic behavior.
Yes i understand that . The governor makes a grinding feeling when i turn over the engine without the plug. Thanks for helping out everything counts.
Bruce is awesome. He could be a cousin of the great Canadian icon Mr. Dressup.
Let me think about that Me and my friends Casey and Finnegan
To be named in the same sentence as Mr. Ernie Coombs is a great honour for any Canadian!
It shows the bad thing that he left it in the damn place and it shows that if you would have took care of it it would have been okay so it makes a perfect video to teach us how to take care of our stuff and I thank you for that
Thanks so much
My rule of thumb for governor static is post turns same direction as governor lever turns to open throttle.
Thanks
I had two that did that last year..... Simple as the gas cap.... drove me crazy.... I cust for days until I figured it out..... Cheers Bruce
This one is the governor. I can feel it make a grinding feeling when i turn it over with the spark plug out. Thanks for commenting.
My mechanic gave me his similar model. It will start but as you open choke it shuts down as if it can't handle load. Checked engine stuff like carb and valves, coil .Finally disconnected avr . Engine starts and runs fine. If you plug avr back in it immediately dies. New brushes and avr made no difference. So genset is overloading engine due to a defect or engine can't handle any load but that would be hard to test except by engine swap.update typed comment while watching. See you at governor. Maybe long shot that some how my governor system is not responding to the lowered rpm of genset and throttle is not opening to to provide enough fuel to keep it running.
I also had to disconnect the High volts shutdown connector as it was shutting the unit down when everything was OK
I'll have to pull mine out again. When I set the valve lash I didn't do the best job tightening everything down intentionally like an idiot. Started right up afterwards no issues. Then decided would not. Will have to open back up, go through everything again to get in spec and get er going once the snow melts away. Of course, haven't worked on since the Predator or the Honda's are my go to. Seems at that time, I wasn't most keen on adjusting the governor and springs, so will have to look at that as well when at it. Mine definitely had valve lash issue and of course the typical carb and fuel flow. Some of the electrical can be funky like reminds me of testing parts that test good when no current running through, though a hairline not visible crack can be observed with like a light bulb or meter on when running since once warms up the break or high resistance manifests. Thanks for sharing the details. I'll try to document better when I get to in the future sometime when I have the time. My channel is more sanity check for me since I do so many things concurrently and might inspire others to do the same and support others too. Thanks again and keep us posted.
Yes I want to take this apart Carefully and find that governor issue.
Good show Bruce. If it likes to start with the choke on when the engine is warm, I would double check the fuel system. Some kind of blockage or air leak.
You are correct. However when the spark plug is out and I feel the govenor shaft when it turns over I feel a crunching feeling. HMMM
i have the same generator got me through fiona 11 days straight only shut off when ran out of gas im not gonna tell you how to fix that one but is an easy fix just have to repair the fiddle fairy governor setup but keep on keeping on my friend
Thanks for joining in!!
It was a good try on it sir 🛠
It is still in the shop. When I take it apart I may film that. Maybe save it??
How's she goin'? The governor must be buggered inside eh if it won't, or can't, control the speed. There was a lot of issues with this generator eh! Take care!!
I will do a careful autopsy. If i can fix it i will :-0
bruce my man . I can't believe you gave up. That's not like you. I have had a couple I wanted to shoot in the carb or beat it with a hammer. But with the patience of Yoda --I figured it out. Thanks for the video buddy.
I still have it. To get the the internal governor the Entire genset must be dissembled!!!! Right ti the internal camshaft
Easy money. Sounds like another video for you. A little time a little money for gaskets. Poor generator needs some TLC ( Time , Labor, and cash) @@BrucesShop
I worked in one with similar problem change the AVR and the problem when away . But every unit is difrent .
Thank you
I've found rule 1 if it has a govenor problem, it's not the govenor. Could be a fuel problem, air leak, or someone reset those govenor springs wrong or bent a linkage.
I can feel the governor pulse and feel crunchy when iiturn over the engine with out the spark plug in.
i understand what you are saying though.
You can say you tried your darndest eh 👍
I still have the dam thing you never know. When I part it out i wail be like (bugs bunny) vewy vewy carfu
🤣👍 You can always use the parts.
Where's @JamesCondon when you need him?
For sure
Send it to Taryl. He'll have it fixed so fast, he'll need to add some cheesy annoying skit at the front and back of the video just to make it longer.
Good one.
Bruce, why are you not in Mexico....instead of monkeying around with this stuff? LOL
The magic of the internet. Called scheduling
You dirty Dawg, you! LOL
First 🙏👍🙏👍Hey Bruce you can’t win them all. You rock👍👍
Thanks
Good video. You can't win them all.
Yeah true
So true Bill
Can’t win them all. There are certainly times where you have to call it. Nobody can say you didn’t try
Thanks al
You and joe biden have a lot in common, TOTAL INCOMPETENCE!!!
Thanks a lot
Cleaning up the brushes on this generator does make a big shocking difference in it making the power cool beans 🫘 there Mr Pender 😎
Great point!
@@BrucesShop hopefully you can get it fixed and running again soon Bruce .I will have to say that The governor in my mind is the problem with the engine shut down unless it comes with a low oil sensor
Right I disconnected the oil sensor during one of the failures. I don't know if that is in the video.@@robertmailhos8159
@@BrucesShop how is the governor return spring look that might be the issue with the engine speed
