10 Million is actually super easy to get if you can quite literally get a hold of an enemy ship, and then just sell all of the parts of it. You can probably reach 10 mil in one episode because I've done it in VANILLA while starting with nothing. What I would say would be a better number is to get 1 Billion credits because that takes much longer. Also there are basically 3 different NPC types, which all sell different things. Components, Ores, or even entire Ships. Their faction name will give a clue to what type they are. The best one IMO is Ores, as you can buy the raw materials and then use them to either sell it back for more, or to make stuff. (You can buy raw ore, refine it with max yield modules, and then sell it back for profit.) NPC stations in space have ALL missions available. (The contracts such as hauling, escort and repair is only available in space space stations.) NPC stations on Earth only have acquisition and search. If you want a lot of different stations, then you should go to planets as they have multiple stations on them. Stations in space are always like 10,000km+ from each other.
I vote sunfish for the ship name, it's absolutely tiny when it hatches and grows to absolutely ridiculous size. It also might lure you into a bit of a different ship shape because it looks like a random disc swimming vertically through the seas.
If no one has mentioned yet, the Zone Chips are used to power shields. The shields consume a certain amount of Zone chips per day based on the shields size.
The thing that makes spotting someone in space difficult is the fact depth perception is destroyed and they would be extremely tiny, you'll experience that in SE OFTEN when there isn't waypoints from beacons broadcasting all the time. You'd need to be able to scan them, plot their course, and overlay the course on a hud so you could see it. Without all of that they'd be invisible to you until both of you are within weapons range. Also itd be even more terifying as youd see them coming but unless youre faster than they are... you couldnt escape from them. Just like piracy in the old times. You could see pirate ships coming from miles away but were powerless to do anything other than run and hope your ship was faster. Also Zone Chips are used in the block that creates safe zones. In vanilla each zone chip lasts 1 hour(irl) so you'd need 24 of them for a full day(2.8M SC, which is extremely cheap considering many of the larger ships sell for 10M+ easily) there are mods that raise them to 1=24hrs which imo is just too much bc it's infinite safety bc the 24 you'd need in vanilla would keep your safe zone active for almost a month lol.(so yes you can survive SE with nothing but money granted you have the power supply).
33:57 Fun fact: when crossing mountains, semi-trucks can became runaway if they let their speed get too high for their weight. So, every couple of miles down a mountain pass that trucks frequently use will be a runaway truck braking spot, which is just a tall artificial hill with a steep slope for trucks to use to slow down. When both friction brakes and engine brakes fail, they use 'gravity brakes'.
The best version of Space Piracy I ever ran across was in the book Neptune's Brood by Charlie Stross. No FTL in this universe, barely any very relativistic flight. Pirates match course with the ship the MC is serving on and board. Very polite, they don't take anything or end up harming anyone. They do perform a customs-grade thorough audit of the ships manifest and crew, however. The pirate ship, _The Crimson Assurance_, works with/for a market insurance cartel in the destination system. The thorough inventory and audit of the ship is to allow their parent organization to short whatever options need shorting to respond properly to whatever properties the victim ship could be selling on arrival. Basically, they are willing to go right up to the line of things that could negatively effect commerce for them - i.e. actual theft and murder, which have bad effects on a system's reputation. And yes, the whole idea was inspired by the piratical insurance company from Monty Python, but jiggered until it almost make sense.
And so it begins once again. Wonderful start and the many restrictions tickle my imagination about how you'll go on to help yourself complete this challange. Great start and i'm exceited to see the next episode.
I would love a salvage playthrough. Maybe a floating shipyard with a heavy tug moving hulls around to be emptied out, and a little corner with a bunch of useful stuff and a scrapping pit for the hollowed out hulls.
The prices and availability fluctuate at the stations, about every 20 minutes or so. Some things get cheaper, others pricier, some become unavailable. There are typically about 4 cycles, so if you saw something for less, or it disappeared, check back later.
The full-ice asteroids DO exist. My current playthrough has me living inside a hollowed out one in the microgravity of high atmosphere of the earth-like planet. VERY useful for power and very pretty too.
10 million i definitely low. 100 Million for a short playthrough and a billion for the long haul. I guess it is important to get a refinery and an assembler. with these you can mine ores, process them and sell them to stations and fulfill aquisition contracts, or do ore aquisition contracts. Without a refinery and assembler, it will stay on capturing ships, grind them down to sell components or sell the ships completely. As you have mentioned splitsie, his Assertice Aquisition series shows how space piracy can work, but unable to make your own ships, it certainly is a hard playthrough, but once you get rolling, it might be finished surprisingly quickly.
This might be a dumb question but: What's your opinion of having your patrons make a space engineer run? Like having them make up a mod list/survival challenge with some sort of "end goal" for you?
maybe name it Celestial Koi, there's an old japanese legend where a school of koi fish swim to a tori gate to try and become dragons, only for all but one to turn back when they see it's on top of a waterfall, the lone koi who still decided to try working tirelessly to reach the top and eventually being rewarded for his efforts
Someone might have already said that, but there is a "Auto pickup" mod for mining. All it does is picking up the ores if you use your drill. Its one of the most important mods to me, as i hate picking up everything by hand every time. That said, I dont know its influence on performance, but I don't expect it to be big.
That starter ship is actually significantly good, once you toss a drill on it. I used it up until I had enough resources to start auto-welding larger blueprint ships.
From what I have seen on the trading you want to make a Faction then accept the most profitable adquicition task (they don’t expire) also be careful with the “Patrol ones” it will get spicy
solid ice asteroids, (I call them icetroids) are possible, but fairly rare, at least they were possible 2 years ago, I haven't played in space in a while so
I've seen where people start by buying all the data pads and then they get deals from all of stations to get lots of money quickly, not all of them will be that far away.

Nice video. I think that it would be cool to name the ship Nauvoo, after the big ship from The Expanse Anyway, here is my guess on how far it is: around 40k
Also just scifi kinda relies on the idea that we've overcome orbital physics like our thrusters are powerful enough we can just trivially overcome the forces of gravity and essentially are just auto dampened to the nearest star, plus despite being able to see infinitely in space, that also works against you there is so much to see and scale is so hard to grasp and so even a very crude cloaking system and we'd never visually notice it unless we happened to look right at it
For a person, absolutely. But ships could have automated passive sensors that look for distinct phenomena right? Like engine ignitions or radio broadcasts. Would probably work in a solar-system only setting. I guess that's why ships are always meant to have transponders on in these shows
18:08 I always forget that the expanse got a TV show. I'm a pretty big fan of the books though, but it probably doesn't help that the Expanse TV show is stuck in Netflix jail.
@@LargelyUnemployed Huh, really? *quickly googles * Oh, wow I had no idea they made that many seasons. I remember back when everyone was sure that season 3 would be the end of the show. And I can apparently even get the DVDs at Best Buy! Thanks for the info!
